We picked up takeout from here one evening before a ballet show-- a poke bowl and a unagi meal. The owners kindly let us order ahead when we called at 1:30PM and had the food ready for pickup right when they re-opened the restaurant for dinner at 5PM. Both entrees came with generous portions of salad and miso soup. Everything was fine and the portions were huge, but I prefer the poke seasoning at an actual poke bowl place. This place is a very under-the-radar Japanese spot but it's been around for a super long time and punches well above its weight. Portion sizes are huge and the food is really tasty. I always have to get a box to go and one portion is easily two meals' worth. I would highly recommend to come here and try their curry or katsu instead of going to somewhere overhyped like Curry Hyuga. You will not regret it in the slightest! We went to Kizuna while we were visiting family in California for Christmas and New Years. We met up with friends who it was also their first time coming to Kizuna. They took us in right away and helped us right away. The service was great. They had a pretty extensive menu also so there was a lot to choose from. Such a hidden gem! It doesn't look like much at first glance but the curry here is amazing! The curry katsu is my favorite in the bay and the udon is really great as well. We came recently for a late Saturday lunch and found ourselves quickly seated. There's a few tables inside but this is also a great takeout spot. One of the best curry katsu/katsu donburi places in San Jose! I was craving a katsu bowl and found this amazing place on yelp! There were other curry katsu resturants but I wanted to try something new. It was a plus that it is a family-owned establishment, kinda like a shukudo. It is a smallish resturant about 6-7 tables and a table in the middle with water and to-go boxes. At the table, there's a QR code where you order and pay before they bring out your food. This makes getting your food quick and easy and since you just can leave after without waiting for the check. But the only issue I saw that some people had was they didn't know you had to pay before so it could help to have a sign about it. Not a big deal but if you do eat here, it's all card, no cash so just heads up! The whole resturant is like a self-serve place. The workers just bring out the food and help with any issues you may have. They don't serve you. The food comes out on either paper plates or take out bowls, depending on what you get, so you can throw it away in the trash can when your done. Just wanted to write a goodbye review for Kizuna. I would get takeout from them almost every week, or when I'm in a rush and craving some Japanese food. This is 100% more of a take out place than a dine in spot, we were allowed to sit anywhere and only saw one other party and around 4 or 5 takeout orders being prepared while we were eating. There are also visible cases of ramune, soda, and the like. Other than being served, you have very little interaction with the staff (good or bad depending on what you are looking for). I would rather order out from this location than actually sit in, the ambiance leaves much to be desired. The food itself was excellent. I ordered chicken karaage as an appetizer and the breading was delicious, the lemon added the perfect amount of acidity to help boost the flavor profile. I ordered a curry udon for my entree, and I really liked it. The broth was really rich and the beef was great too. I ate everything and was very satisfied. First of all the place is really small with less than 10 tables, especially since they switched to a different model during the pandemic. Personally for ME, the curry was MUCH too spicy - I could see seeds in the sauce - which made me wonder if those are pepper seeds? Next time going original. However the rest of my fam loved the spice level. I have to say I was used to the other (now gone) curry place where even medium spicy wasn't that spicy... here - they are SERIOUS and I can't imagine what the next level spice would be!! And their curry is deep in flavor - not light in color but dark and very flavorful. My significant other wanted to try this place out, and udon is one of my favorite foods, so I was looking forward to it. I scanned their QR code at the table and ordered the Niku Udon. To actually completely place the order, I had to provide my name, phone number, email, and credit card information to pay. There was an appetizer that came first that included inari nigiri (2 pieces total), edamame, and some small shredded seaweed-like pieces. I thought these were pretty good. Unfortunately, the Niku Udon was underwhelming. Each component -- the broth, noodle, and meat -- didn't have enough flavor. The texture of the noodle was okay. Overall, this udon wasn't that much better than getting instant udon. It's possible that they're going for something healthier so that the broth and meat are less fatty and maybe less salty. However, that's not noted anywhere, so I can't confirm if that's the sole reason why the dish tasted so-so. I was pretty disappointed that they used disposable foodware for every part of the customer experience, though I was able to tell them I didn't need their utensils and napkins because I brought my own. This environment may be logistically easier for young kids or those that are unable to use reusable foodware for health/medical reasons. The chicken katsu curry was probably the best I've had in a long time. Chicken was so tender and juicy while the breading still flaky and crunchy! Curry perfectly balanced with their red pickled radish. They gave such a large portion I had leftovers for the next day! The people were so fast, friendly and efficient. Fast service, huge portions, and great food - what's there not to love? My husband and I finally tried this place this past weekend after it's been on our list for awhile. We ordered the kakiage udon and pork tonkatsu curry. Had we known how large the portions would be we would've potentially opted to share a plate. The food came out very quickly and as mentioned portions were HUGE. The kakiage udon came with two large pieces of kakiage plus Inari and small sides. We were also pleasantly surprised that the kakiage had bits of shrimp in it. The curry (homemade) had a salad and small sides as well. We weren't very hungry but we still thought the food was executed well and yummy. The only bad thing I can say is the restaurant does serve dine in dishes with disposable plateware which can create a lot of waste but instead of us taking our leftovers with new containers we tried to reuse the ones we had to reduce waste. We came here for Kakiage Don. Kakiage Don: Very good. 2 pieces of kakiage (thinly cut vegetables, shrimp, squid tempura) over rice. Huge portion. Katsu Don: Very good. Pork cutlet and eggs over rice. Huge portion. The food tastes like authentic homemade or teishoku restaurants everywhere in Japan. Much more expensive than in Japan. The restaurant was small, not so crowded on weekend lunch time. It was a self service style: you order and pay by phone, they bring your food, you throw away your disposable containers or prepare to-go boxes. So, I felt like I was in a fast food place, rather than in a restaurant. Not for a special occasion, obviously. I will come back to try another dish when I am really hungry:) read more
