I came here one weekday evening for dinner and ordered the tonkotsu curry rice and the tegone cheese in hamburg steak curry rice. Everything was made fresh to order which was nice, the hamburg steak takes extra time. The curry itself was good, good ratio of rice to curry as well. You can pick spicy or not spicy you want the curry. We got +2 spicy which was fine for us - but if you don't handle spice well it might be considered spicy. The tonkotsu was good portion size, crispy but was a little dry. However, the curry helped with it. For the hamburg steak, it is a beef patty with cheese in it covered in a brown sauce. The brown sauce was a mix of sweet and savory. It came on the side with curry rice. Good portion size. Overall, will be back again to try their other dishes. They have ones that I have never tried before and I saw others ordering different items like mapo tofu curry rice, curry udon, and so forth. read more

Demiya has been my go to spot for katsu in the area for the last year. They changed their katsu recipe a few months ago (how they bread their katsu is now different). Personally, I like the older version better but the current version is still fairly good. I usually get the tonkatsu bento and food quality and portions have been consistent. read more

It is frustrating to spend an hour round trip to pick up the food and find out after you get home that you didn't get the pickles you paid for. You order at the front, then grab a table and wait for your name to be called. We got the chicken katsu with curry, karaage with curry, and tonkatsu. We also ordered menchi katsu a la carte (side) which came with two pieces. All of the curry came with rice or cabbage and you can choose the spice level (1-3). Level 1 is a mild with a kick. Pickled radish is additional dollar, kinda wish the meal came with it. Honestly would recommend just getting the choice of protein with the curry because it's a couple dollars more than getting a la carte... Curry was very good! So good! Demiya is one of my go-tos for curry. Love their tonkatsu curry. The meat is super crispy, juicy, and pairs so well. Only downside is they don't include the red pickles and they don't have corn potage. Prices are a little steep but the quality is there. Come early since there's limited seating. Lots of people also do takeout, so the place was busy right after they opened at 11:30! Be sure to bus your own table. Came here with a friend from years past and my karaage chicken curry was pretty good. The chicken was freshly fried and was still moist and the curry was smooth and creamy even though it was on the runny side. I enjoyed the meal and highly recommend the place. Service was a bit slow as they just opened the doors and there was a line out the door. You self order and the food is delivered to you. The place is clean and so was the bathroom. We came right at opening and entered as the second group. The seating inside was limited to roughly 20 table and maybe four or so counter seats. our group of six had to push together tables to make sure they were saved. Having eaten at Demiya before we knew what to order. However us being efficient didn't translate Into better service since it went downhill after ordering. It seemed like the restaurant was prioritizing take out orders over dine in. After a long wait two out of six entrees were prepped and then it stopped. It was at least another 15 minutes before the rest of the orders for our table trickled out of the kitchen but the to go bags were piling up quickly. When the rest of us finally got our plates there was miscommunication on the spice levels by the staff and took multiple times to clarify which was the correct one. At least when our food finally appeared the udon and katsu's were good as usual. The line continued to grow and eventually those people got their orders and were standing around waiting for a seat to eat. I've always seen this Japanese curry restaurant since Bar Bay Grill was still open in the plaza. I finally got around to trying the curry dishes here just last week. There was plenty of parking upon arriving. We had come around lunch time and there wasn't a lot of people inside, so we got to grab a table quickly. You order at the register with the cashier, grab a table then they call you when the food is ready. My boyfriend ordered the hamburg curry (he was craving since we went to Japan last year) and I ordered the chicken katsu curry for myself. We both got level 2 spicy for our curry. I want to say the food came out about 10-15 minutes later. Our dishes looked simple, but tasted amazing. I really enjoyed the curry and couldn't stop dipping the chicken in there. The level 2 was too spicy for my boyfriend, so I felt like he couldn't enjoy his meal all the way, but I love eating spicy so the level 2 was fine for me. The portion was too big for me, so I ended up giving my boyfriend half of the chicken katsu. We definitely both had food coma right after. I would come back here again when craving curry and I would probably try their other dishes they offer. This place was so good that my boyfriend went back a couple days later with his friend. This is the spiciest scale I have ever seen a Japanese restaurant calibrated to. I selected 1 (a bit spicy), and there was enough of a kick to make it interesting. I probably would have selected 2 (spicy) for myself, but we were sharing and my girlfriend prefers things a little more mild. Portion size may seem small on picture but when eating all of it together you do feel full. Now the the biggest issue I had was the rice was extremely hard. The tonkatsu curry here is the very best in South Bay (arguably SF Bay Area) in my opinion. During last visit, it was the most busy I'd ever seen the restaurant, and folks had to wait outside for tables to open up even after ordering. Thankfully I was able to secure a table right after ordering. Food comes out after not a noticeably long amount of time, and always fresh and hot. I got the spice level 3 and it was spicy, but not too spicy which I liked. The curry was creamy. My friend ordered the Tegone cheese-in hamburg steak curry rice, and you could literally see the cheese oozing out of the meat. It took about 20 minutes for the order to come out. They also offer additional toppings. I got the Takoyaki. Service wasn't great and the dining area felt a bit stuffy. I went on a Friday right when they opened at 5:30 pm, and it got crowded quickly. It's been a long time since we've eaten at Demiya and we usually do take out. We loved our visit and find it much better than their curry competitors in the South Bay Area. Good portions for the price and love the variety in their menu. Seating can get a bit crowded and it's self service to bus your own dishes on a clean rack in the back.
