I got lamb skewers, beef skewers, and the braised lamb soup with clear noodles. The slightly spicy seasoning they put on the skewers is tasty. $3 a skewer is pricy imo, but they hit the spot. The braised lamb soup with clear noodles is $15. It's served in a clay pot so it stays nice and hot. The broth was hearty, the pieces of lamb were plentiful, and the clear noodles were a nice, slurp-able texture. It was delicious. It was the bbq skewers on the menu that intrigued me and made me want to come here, though it has no weekday lunch, my usual opportunity to go out. It's a plain small dining room with tables and a counter. You order as with dim sum; there's a paper order sheet on your table, on which you mark how many of each you want. I found a total of six skewers of various meats, plus one side vegetable, made a satisfying small meal. The whole collection came on one plate, with chopsticks that weren't really very successful at sliding the meat off the wooden skewers; I picked the skewers up and gnawed the meat off. Consistent seasoning on all the contents; I'd asked for mildly spicy and that's what I got. Quality of the food was good. I ordered through DoorDash and the food was quickly prepared. The bag was missing the order of oysters and scallops, we have to checked the bag to realize it and go back to ask for it. I have visited this restaurant for years , and the food quality has been very consistent. It has a unique taste of peppercorn oil and chili powder. Very tasty. They'd apply the same seasoning over the variety of proteins and veggies. They also serve noodles and beers. The best skewer to order here is the stinky tofu in my opinion. Some other skewers I recommend are lamb, king oyster mushroom, gizzard, corn, and fish balls. The beef was a bit too dry and chunky for me. It's probably healthier for you since it isn't as fatty but I don't prefer it. The lamb was juicier and more flavorful. Hankow serves authentic Chinese BBQ skewers and an assortment of noodle dishes. I stopped here after class one night hoping to grab some food to take home so I didn't have to deal with cooking since it was late. The food was overall just okay, a lot of the things I got did not contain that great of a flavor hence the 3 stars as taste is my number one factor. The other good thing is that the portions are pretty large compared to Chinese street skewers and their skewers are not as burnt as those I remember getting. I got the following: Good: 1. Angus beef skewer: this was my first skewer and I thoroughly enjoyed it Big chunks of beef, seasoned and grilled perfectly, had a charcoal taste and overall delicious. 2. Shrimp: one big shrimp on a skewer. I felt as though this one was a little pricey as it was just one shrimp on a skewer for like $2 but the freshness and taste of it was good so I guess it made up for it Not so good: 3. Turkey gizzard: tasted fine, chewy and tastes as expected of gizzards, probably would not get again. 4. Chicken wings: comes with two per order, grilled well but highly disappointed as I figured this would be the easiest one to make tasty. Had a charcoal taste but was overall very bland. 5. Snails skewer: Thought this one was unique and it was what I imagined. Lacked 6. Beef Tendon: first bite was fine as it had good flavor but easily got tiring. 7. Having been introduced to chuanr (aka Chinese BBQ skewers) by, of all people, my white homie that taught English in China for a year, I knew he would be down to try Hankow after I told him a new chuanr place opened up. Cuz yeah, Chef Yang's BBQ is ok on it's best day and downright crap on a bad day. I can definitely say that the lamb and pork skewers here are quality. Has good cumin flavor, not too oily, and soft meat. Really good steamed bread as well, as it's actually toasted with the flavor instead of slathered with oil to the point that it's not even edible. What I was actually surprised about was the Hankow Beef Noodle soup. I wasn't expecting to find the best beef noodle soup I've had in NorCal here (granted the bar hasn't really been set that high). But the noodles are not too thin and the broth is super flavorful (especially when you throw in that spicy flavor)...reminds me a lot of Supreme Dragon's top-level beef noodle soup back in Rowland Heights. Beef could use work because I prefer my beef in chunks rather than sliced thin, but I'll take the trade off if the soup and noodles are on point. Sorry though, not a fan of the Hot Dry Noodle. Just didn't do it for me. Service is pretty good for non-Asian folks, despite this restaurant clearly being catered for the Chinese-speaking crowd. I was born in "Hankow" (it's actually Hankou, a city within Wuhan, China), my parents grew up there, and I return there every few years to visit family. My parents and I enjoyed this food, though I wasn't as impressed with the Hot Dry Noodle as they were. A note on the Hot Dry Noodle: Having this dish outside of Wuhan, China is a huge deal for me as it's my favorite hometown dish and reminds me of my childhood. I'm not sure if someone eating this for the first time would love it as much as I do, so don't set your expectations so high! This is a very unique place among a sea of common Chinese restaurants. The food here is anything BUT common. They have these nice skewers that are just full of flavor. I don't remember what we all had but they were all very tender and fasty. All of the meats were fresh and marinated or basted full of flavor. They are all grilled just right -- nothing overcooked or burnt. They were just right. They also have some exotic dishes like snails and octobus -- both of which we also ordered. The snails were very meaty and easy to eat. I think I ate half of the dish before anyone at my tabled noticed. haha. The octopus was also very good and had a similar but slightly more tender texture. All of the food that we ordered were heavily seasoned to give them good flavor. This is not where you want to frequent if you need a low-sodium diet but the food is very VERY flavorful and well worth it. I love coming to Hankow! In comparison to other Chinese BBQ skewer restaurants, Hankow offers the best bang for the buck (cheapest price with sufficiently sized meats on skewers), the fastest service (food comes out within ~10 minutes), and tastiest foods on the menu. Beyond the delectable skews, I LOVE their hot and sour lotus root (I'm a bit addicted to it), garlic cucumbers, and the garlic vermicelli scallops!!! These are items I can't find at the other BBQ restaurants, keeping me coming back. Hankow is a small mom/pop shop that recently renovated. I wish I knew about this place when I was more of a late-nighter! Although their dishes are more made for guilty cheat food than a proper sit down dinner, it served us fine. I might not even have pictures of all the food we ordered because it was just wave upon wave of skewed meats. Lamb, beef, shellfish, you name it. Because it is, to be as PC as possible, a Chinese "fast food" place, I won't dock points for service. In fact, our food came out pretty quickly.
