Honey sticks for tea or a treat!

Anyone who knows me, knows I love exploring new outdoorsy types places. Usually I do this solo as my ever so slightly high maintenance friends are not so into these types of down & dirty spots. So when one of my girlfriends told me she'd like to do something outdoors this past weekend, I was all over it! I remembered seeing my good Yelp buddy Laura N.'s checkins at Kline Creek Farm and sold my friend on it. Kline Creek Farm has a good sized parking lot that on any normal type of day doesn't fill up. They have friendly workers who get quite into their roles throughout the property which only adds to the fun. They have a variety of activities throughout the year and different things going on each weekend day - my friend and I got to experience a few of these things. Every hour on the hour from 10am-4pm they give a tour of the Kline Creek Farm House. My friend and I somehow ended up on a tour with a group of 15 tiny boy scouts and their parents. Although I'm sure their parents found their multiple questions cute & endearing (What's the hottest part of the stove? Why do I smell butter!? Did they have waffles back then? Did they have pancakes back then?), my friend and I only made it to room 2 of the house tour before she texted me "I'm gonna kick that kid in the head." ...I knew it was time we abandoned ship! At least that leaves something fun to do the next time I visit. What I did see of the tour was great and our tour guide was very informative and patient. Randomly throughout the farm they have some agricultural activities going on. We stumbled upon a guy pressing apples and making fresh cider. Holy goodness was it sweet and delicious. My mouth is watering right now thinking about it. Again another passionate employee who was quite informative, even if his cider wasn't hard. My favorite experience was the Meet The Beekeepers discussion we sat in on. I found it all quite fascinating and I think I may want to have my own honeybees when I buy a place at some point. We learned all about beekeeping, what goes into it, the various types of bees & their roles and the many ways in which bees help the world around us. Now aside from all the fun activities, there are cows, horses, sheep (we pet them...and...stuck our finger through their wool to see how deep it was. about an inch if anyone is curious. and the sheep didn't even seem to notice us touching their skin), chickens and barn cats! Snuggly, cuddly friendly barn cats! :) Inside the visitor center, they sell their honey made right on the farm! I bought a jar as it was a complete steal at just $4. They have a lot of other goodies in the visitor center SLASH gift shop area and a lot of them are pricey. However, it's quite interesting stuff in there and worth a stop in. My friend has already sent me a video about their sheep shearing that happens in the Spring so looks like we'll definitely going back!

    Sweet kitty followed us.

Finally!! My 500th review! And what better place to write it for than one of my newest favorite farm spots in the suburbs? And so it goes.... There are very few places in the world that make me gasp in awe when I arrive. This is one of those places. I don't know if I was overcome by how beautiful it was, or how much I needed to see this place in the midst of a bad day, or the fact that something like this exists among the chain stores and houses, but I gasped in awe at nearly everything I saw. A friend of mine, who has Barnheart just like I do (and that lucky lady actually moved from Chicago to a farm in Michgan last week!), told me about this farm a couple months ago. Another farm to check out in the 'burbs?! I was all over it and went there as soon as I could. And the day after that. And the day after that. OK, so I didn't gasp at first. When I arrived to Kline Creek Farm, all I found was a good-sized parking lot, a statue of a horse, a building that kind of looked like a barn with corn fields behind it, and a smaller white building with bees. I thought to myself, "Is this it? THIS is the farm? This isn't anything." I went inside the larger building and encountered a little store filled with old-fashioned farm toys, cool books on gardening and raising animals, vintage clothes, and jars of honey. There was a little toy barn for kids to play with and a giant chalkboard on the wall for, I assume, classes and activities. There's also offices or something and a couple bathrooms. The white bee building was closed, but you could see bees buzzing around in the windows and around the building. THEN. I saw the sign pointing down a beautifully wooded path towards the farm. ("Ohhh," I thought to myself, "the farm is down there!") Off I skipped (in my head) down the trail towards the farm, eyes wide open. Along one side of the path was a fence with a few horses beyond it, grazing in the sun. The trees on the other side were just starting to change colors. This was looking better and better. At the end of the path is somewhat of a clearing, and you can see the beautiful restored home resting on the yard and the barns beyond it. This is when I gasped for the first time. And I proceeded to explore. Kline Creek Farm has: + a large garden surrounding the house. + a chicken coop. the chickens stay inside it, though. + an old-fashioned ice house. + horses. they go back and forth between the farm & the pastures. + a large barn with a tack room, horse stables, and... + hay lofts!! oh, how I love hay lofts!! + benches to sit on. + several cute, friendly barn cats! they are wonderful. + a barn that stores and displays old farm equipment. + several sheep pastures with many funny, friendly sheep. + yards and picnic areas. + a vegetable garden (and I found a cute, fuzzy caterpillar)! + a few cows in the back of the property. + the beautiful, old farm house. Every hour, on the hour, tours of the old house are given. (A bell rings, so people in the distance can hear the tour is about to start and come running.) I loved the house with its' two kitchens, large dining room, several sitting rooms, and bedrooms. It was filled with all the antqiue things that you usually find in preserved homes and the tour guide, dressed in 1900s garb, was very pleasant and knowledgable. Several volunteer farmers work on the farm and they are more than happy to stop their chores to answer your questions and open some gates for you to see the animals. During the year, the farm has a few festivals, including the corn harvest. I was sadly unable to make it out for the corn harvest festival, but I heard they also make their own apple cider using the cider press in one of the kitchens. Very cool. The farm is quite large; there are no extra walking paths, but you'll get plenty of walking in just by following the long path towards, through, and around the farm. Prior to visiting the Kline Creek for the first time, I had been in a really bad mood for a week or so. Coming to this farm was just the breath of fresh air that I needed to recharge myself! Who knew that chickens and horses and sheep could bring so much joy? :)

Step back in time at the family pleasing location. The farm frequently has events that are usually free and if not free, definitely reasonably priced. The volunteers and employees are all exceptionally knowledgeable about farm life. It is a real working farm so there are animals, acres of fields, and everything is there with a purpose.

Maple Sugar tour/demo. $5 on selected days in late winter.

I had been wanting to do this FOR YEARS and never got around to it. Finally, a few months ago, I…read moredid it. I saw a Facebook ad for a combination goat hang out and brewery flight (via the Fever app "Brews and Baahhs"). My two favorite things!! (ha ha) So I bought the tickets and was not disappointed. It was one-hour with the goats, then you went to One Lake Brewing down the street afterward for a free flight (and we ended up buying dinner). The owner, David, was there and chit-chatted and answered some questions. Then did a few things around the property while we just hung out and petted the goats. I have never had such an up close and personal experience with a goat. They are a lot like dogs. They were hilarious and very affectionate. They wanted to climb all over us but we were prepared for that. It's a shame that David mentioned they might only be doing this for a year or two more. I'm sure it's a lot to maintain, especially during these crazy times. -But it's very covid safe. For what we did, you can wear your mask and you are left alone with the goats in a huge open pasture - so it's not a people-crowded event. I highly recommend it - it was a lot of fun. In case the number is not on the profile - he gave me a card with contact info: 847-226-9510; glennartfarm.com for more info.

This is in the Austin neighborhood right next to Oak Park. I never realized I lived 10 minutes away from an urban farm my entire life! The chicken coops are at this address and then the yoga is down the alley in a field right by the firehouse. You can't miss it! They have the area fenced in with 20+ goats! I adore all animals and heard that goat yoga is a great way to relax and rid anxiety. I was fully present and in the moment when I was surrounded by these adorable goats. I will definitely recommend this to everyone who has never done goat yoga before. This was a more affordable option too! Usually if you go to goat yoga in the city tickets are around 50 dollars this is closer to 26 bucks! Not bad. Such a great time. David and Carolyn seem like the really take great care of their goats. David was telling me how a mother goat rejected her baby goat and they had to bottle feed the goat every four hours! They name the goats really cute names and tell you about their life and temperament. I wanted to take one home with me! They were clean and lovable. I will definitely come back :) NaaaaaAaamaste ‍

I can't believe I haven't been coming here for years and just discovering this place this year…read more This place is a great family farm for anybody of all ages. Most of the things here are free. Pumpkins that you can pick are at very reasonable prices. Food and drinks are at reasonable prices too as well as other merchandise and other fall related things that go on here. They had a corn maze that I did not check out at all. Visiting the animals was probably one of my favorite things at the farm. It's not jam-packed like a lot of the popular locations. The only downside I would say was that the staff is a little bit untrained especially when it comes to money handling since the one cashier when I was paying for pumpkins didn't know how to count cash even though I gave him exact change. Overall, you should not pass up on this place at all. 4.5 Stars

They have a huge play area with wooden structures such as a school bus, fire truck, and castle. My young girls enjoyed the pretend play on the vehicles and going on the slides. There is also a section with huge stacks that are perfect for climbing and taking group pictures. Some things to take note of: 1) There is a section with plenty of port-a-potties. We were there in the morning so the port-a-potties were all relatively clean and unused. 2) The food section isn't that big but service is quick. We tried the cheese pizza, poor boy, pork chop on a stick, cheeseburger, and donuts. We would definitely order the poor boy, a cube steak sandwich, and pork chop again. They did an excellent job with grilling the meats and both had a nice sear while retaining moisture. The donuts were mini-size and came in baker's dozen so it was easy for our young girls to dig in.
