I want to like Kneaders much more than I do. I first had them when my parents had them cater my little sisters wedding. They thought they'd be those little rolls with meat and cheese, but they were big, tasty filling sandwiches with several toppings. So after that, of course, I had to try more. Well... I like the desserts. They run around $2 each with the exception of their cake and pie slices. The eclairs are usually good, the key lime tart is divine, the lemon raspberry cupcake is delicious, but my favorite is the chocolate dome. Chocolate upon chocolate. Their paninis were a huge letdown. For the additional cost over their cold sandwiches, you'd think you'd be able to customize them to your preference, but no. They make them every morning and then store them until someone comes along to order them as is. So by the time it's actually eaten there are soggy slimy bits from sitting for several hours. Tried one once, don't need to try anymore. Yuck. The soup is decent, nothing outstanding. The French toast is alright, but really sweet. I like the cinnamon roll bread occasionally, though they really need to rethink packaging. By the time you get the plastic bag off of the loaf, all the yummy sugary glaze has been pulled off and now sticks to the inside of the bag. It's best a day or two old and warmed up in the microwave for a few seconds. I don't like it fresh the day of. Seems really dry. If you want a decently priced treat to satisfy your sweet tooth, go for it. If you want a nice sandwich and soup there are much better options than Kneaders read more

One of the places I always recommend tourists, visitors or people who just moved here. We are a military family so we move a lot, this time we came from the south so I had never even heard of this place until we got here and decided to try it on a whim. If you are a fan of panera bread, or similar deli-type restaurants like McAllister's you should absolutely try this place out. It has homemade soup and bread which make even the simplest of sandwiches taste incredible, however their sandwiches are far from simple - they are usually a 4-5 inches thick with all the toppings that are all fresh vegetables, hand carved meats and specialty sauces and cheeses. But to me the most impressive item they have are their salads. This place easily has the best and most well put together and loaded salads of any other restaurant- bar none. Even just holding the box and feeling how heavy it is shows that you are getting your moneys worth, the only place that actually puts a giant chicken breast is grilled chicken salads, homemade salad dressings, any topping imaginable and creative specialty salads. Getting a half size is a must for me personally, I got a full size one time and it had to be a pound of food. So my advice is to either get a side salad with soup or a sandwich or try a half before a full, you won't even believe it's not a full meal because it's so huge. They are a tad bit pricey if you don't order using combo deals or get smaller portions - which are already huge. But they have a lot of deals where you have a lot of half options for almost everything (half sandwiches, soup cup instead of a full bowl, side and half salads) but once you learn how to order and remember less is more the price is a lot more reasonable and either way you certainly get your money's worth. The atmosphere is what drew me here and keeps me here for the most part. There is a dessert and bakery in store where you can purchase loaves of bread, or any dessert imaginable. This makes the place always smell like nutmeg and vanilla. All the furniture, artwork, and general design or aesthetic is cozy and beautiful - even the desserts on display are gorgeous and so pretty you don't want to eat them for fear of messing them up! They have a giant fireplace in the middle of the store which makes you feel right at home. There are cute boutique type items for like Christmas ornaments and little home decor trinkets for sale as well as the baked goods so there is always something super cute there to buy outside of food alone. They also have a drive thru which is incredible given the fact that this place falls far from the category one would typically associate drive thrus with and they certainly aren't fast food. They also take orders for specialty items like birthday cakes and cater as well. All in all this place is excellent and in this instance you SHOULD believe the hype, they deserve all the recognition in the world and aren't overhyped like some deli chains or bakery's. Anytime a new family moves in here on hill Air Force base and ask for food recommendations I always tell them about Kneaders. When my parents and sister come and visit me from NC I always take them here and they love it. read more

Went back on Monday for lunch. Lots of choices. Had the turkey and roast beef sandwich; tomato bisque soup, side fruit salad, oreo/cherry cupcake. Kiddo had grilled cheese, goldfish cookie. Hubs had French dip and frozen hot chocolate. All was pretty tasty except the tomato bisque soup. It was just mediocre; the frozen hot chocolate had more ice than drink. Their lunch menu was a bit pricey : $36 for 3 people; less affordable than their all-you-can-eat French toast breakfast. Service was a little slow but staff was nice. Purchased a wedding gift basket there too [they sell some gift items and put together gift baskets at your request]. Basket was cute. With 1 plaque, 1 pillow, a small wooden sign, basket and wrap, it was $45. Ate out on the patio so we could have the dog with us. This gets a 4.5 with downgrade because of higher prices at lunch and a few less-tasty items this go-around. read more

Ordered the french dip via door dash. I don't think anyone bothered to read how much water to add to the au jus sauce. Its like dipping my sandwich in warm water. So disappointing. Not sure what is going on at this location. I usually have great service at other locations, but the past week I tried to eat here and they were sold out of all the soups except 2- and the lady we were going to order from was rude. Two days later we tried to come back, another employee taking the orders was SO rude and rushed us, super short and seemed really annoyed. We also waited for a long time before someone came to the front to take our order. My sister and I were both really confused as to why the employee was so rude. Ambiance is fantastic, but food does not meet expectations of a place that labels itself as a bakery. *Food* Took my daughter there for breakfast. Ordered an egg & cheese croissant and some pancakes / waffles / french toast / whatever. The croissant was good-ish. The pancakes / french toast was almost inedible. Instead of real maple syrup (like Cracker Barrel down the road), or even fake maple syrup (like everywhere else), they give you a weird, syrupy sweetener. Never again. *Bakery* Some of the breads are pretty good, and inexpensive. Some desserts are decent, others very low quality. Frostings seem oil based (instead of butter), and a lot of their food seems to use artificial sweeteners (instead of real sugar) -- OK for the grocery store cookie aisle, but tacky for a place that calls itself a bakery. The customer service needs improvement though, the girl seemed to be magnetized only to the cash register, i asked to do the buy 5 get 1 free deal, she said "you have to buy 5 to get 1 free" thats what i asked for in the first place and named off the items i wanted. Just ok. As for positives...it's clean and the food was better than the mass market (i.e. Panera). I wouldn't call it an economical choice and the customer service was very mediocre. When I came in, I was the only person in line and 2 groups were in the dining room. They acted like they were being crushed, a bit hurried, not outgoing, etc...so essentially a fast food encounter. They had 2 lemonades on the menu, so I asked the difference...they said, "one is out there (pointing to fountain in the dining room) and one comes in gallons. I'm still not sure what that means. I asked about muffins that were in the menu but they did not have any, and that's not so bad if you have good customer service with an explanation, but they were essentially unsure and/or ambivalent. Finally, this location has a weird setup with a center station that blocks half the dining room off from the rest of the restaurant. The problem is that the process to serve food here is to send out an employee yelling your name. I'll admit, it was quite humorous to watch customers and staff walking around the island in unison, like an impromptu game of peek-a-boo, but the customers involved in the game weren't loving it. The last two times I've been to this location I have found bugs in my food. I didn't make a big deal out of it the first time because I know things happen. I was disgusted to find another bug in my food today. I have had other bad experiences here, (I.e. Burnt soup, wrong orders when I go through the drive through, and sub-par and sloppily made sandwiches) but this is the icing on the cake for why I will not be returning to Kneaders in the future. I'm giving Kneaders one star because I feel like the food has gone down hill and the last couple times I've been there I have gotten bugs in my food. Every meal I've had here has been good. The breads are always moist and delicious. We've had their all you can eat pancakes and french toast which is a great value for under $6 and so much better quality than IHOP. Their french toast is made with their cinnamon swirl bread I think but it's so good. Their turkey and artichoke panini was also really good. Their loaded baked potato soup was rich and velvety. Their french dip was also delicious with au jus! Their breakfast sandwiches on croissants (so buttery and flaky) are also consistently good. Desserts here are also good. So we haven't been here for a while, and thought we would try it again. I remembered why we don't come here very often. Felt like if you don't come here a lot you are not part of the elite club. Sometimes kneaders can be a hit or miss, but I always enjoy for breakfast their chunky cinnamon French toast. For lunch I love their turkey cranberry sunflower salad. For dinner I really enjoy their sandwiches on focaccia bread. Seriously their focaccia bread is the best! If you order a sandwich, order it on the focaccia. French dip was good and the bread it was on was Fantastic! Thick chewy crust with a nice dense smooth crumb. The kind of bread you want to soak in au jus. Canoli was really really good. I would gladly go back for coffee and a Canoli one morning. My Wife had the turkey sandwich and she was very pleased. She liked the sugar cookie as well but did say her sandwich could use some more mustard and mayo. I want to get her some and found they didn't have packets of ether with the other sauces. I thought that was strange given they are a sandwich shop... The sourdough bread I tried was great and the triple chocolate bread I sampled was also quite tasty. The chicken noodle soup tasted homemade and was tasty. We will likely be back next time we are in the mood for sandwiches. Hopefully the quality keeps up! read more
