The question you should start off with is how long do you want to wait for your items to get repaired? I had a moth destroy a couple of sweaters that had holes in them - very high end label cashmere. Knitwear Dr is an older couple that have been in the community for a very long time and they're extremely nice so they get five stars for that however - I waited one entire year for her to fix four sweaters.... The repairs are also NOT 100% at Knitwear Dr - you can see where she repaired the holes. I had Knit alteration and design (another repair shop located in WA) fix some of the other sweaters that I had.... And they turned out beautiful. The Washington shop re-knit the holes and you can't even tell!! The sweaters look brand new and you can ship the sweaters to her WA shop. Sandy will fix them and ship them back within a 2 to 3 month period. If you're going to consider Knitwear Dr, you should consider the other place for a better repair. at a more reasonable time frame. Overall a great experience! I brought in person 2 sweaters one that I wanted the arms shorted, and another that I wanted the arms shortened and the waist hem widened. Galia is the sweetest lady, took my measurements and ensured everything would be done where you couldn't even tell. And wow was she not kidding. The work is flawless and amazing. Tailoring knits can't just be done easily, so you definitely get what you pay for and I wouldn't trust someone else who doesn't specialize in this. I took a vintage Ralph Lauren sweater I got at an estate sale to Gallia at knitwear doctor for an alteration to the turtle neck. The turtle neck did not stretch at all and I couldn't even fit my head through. Gallia assessed the sweater and said she could convert the turtleneck into a crew neck using similar thread or the existing thread from the turtleneck. She was able to complete this in two weeks and I couldn't be more happy. On top of that she gave me the scraps of the turtleneck in case I needed it for any other repairs/alterations. OMG, I just received my Armani suit pants back from the Knitwear Doctor, and I can't praise the workmanship enough. I contacted Galia back in May after searching reviews on the Internet and Yelp for her help, and I'm glad I did. I agreed to the service requested via email and then direct contact over the phone. It was very easy to communicate with as well. I sent my pants 2-day FedEx because the sooner I could get them to her, the sooner I could possibly get them back. I needed the work completed by June 27th because I was leaving on a function shortly there after, which was taking me out of the country for a couple of weeks. To my surprise, I had a FedEx package waiting for me when I got home almost 3 weeks before I expected them back. The value to me was a thousand fold having back this early. I was distraught when I stained my sentimental silk sweater with chili oil. I can't even begin to describe the absolute quality and workmanship that was put into repairing my sweaters. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and have been searching for someone who can repair sweaters. Every time I would do a search, the Knitwear Doctor would show up on the search. Living some four hundred miles away, this would have never been my first option. A little bit about the sweaters I had repaired. I'm a big fan of handmade wool sweaters. All made in Ireland. There's a favorite shop in Dublin Ireland that I get to once a year. I had six sweaters that needed repair, not finding anyone local, I decided to take my sweaters to "The Doctor ". I had the pleasure of meeting Galia whom I found to be the most comfortable person to talk with on a first time meet. We spoke about many different topics while Galia showed me around her shop. We discussed my needs and Galia without hesitation said all my issues with my sweaters were fixable. I left once our transaction was complete, but I left wondering if I made a mistake. One, I lived four hundred miles away, and two how can these sweaters be fixed. Well, when I received my sweaters, I could not believe what was done. The repairs were in no way noticeable. I looked and looked for the repairs but couldn't find them. I but the sweaters on to find the irregularities, absolutely nothing. I was so impressed with the work that I thought how can I go into business with Galia. The skill, the trades work were impeccable. Reviews were so great for this place, I made the trek to drop off a batch of sweaters (and PRE PAY for the work and return shipping.) She wrote my address down on a piece of paper, placed my sweaters in a pile (yes the place looks extremely disorganized, but I figured there was a method to the madness). After that? Nothing. Never received fixed sweaters. Called time after time for status: "I didn't get to it yet" "I finished it but need to mail it" "I will mail it out this week" No response after no response. My mom needed her knitted sweater repaired of a few holes. We walked in to the business in person after being referred here by the same retailer that she purchased the sweater from. I do believe the repairs are done well here based off the reviews but I would caution those who are sending pieces from out of state. The entire place was in disarray and many unboxed packages sprawled across the entrance to random crevices of the store. It definitely is a one-woman business and a second pair of hands would probably help with organizing the state of chaos we saw. Seeing this, we felt a bit afraid to leave my mom's sweater because 1) you pay upfront and 2) what if her sweater gets lost among all the mess and it's already been paid for. I'm super happy with my Knitwear Doctor experience! I sent a sweater I had purchased final sale that I didn't realize had a high/low hemline to see if the back could be shortened to match the front. The sweater was a merino/cashmere blend and had an intricate cable knit pattern, but this was no problem at all. They suggested they also reknit the hemline on the front to match the back because "it would look more perfect." I hadn't even thought of this, but now the hemlines completely match and nobody would ever know the sweater was altered! Full disclosure, I sent my sweater at the end of September and didn't get it back until the end of June. I didn't mind this because the work is so niche/hard to find, I had read reviews about potential wait times, and I just assume they're busy because everybody wants to go to the best! Reweaving is slow and tedious work, though, so don't wait until mere days before you'll need a repaired garment returned. Have my Chanel cashmere sweater repaired in this place and it is looks like new now! Great job! There were 2 loose stitches and holes and all gone now and it is impossible to find where it was before because the sweater looks perfect. I have to mentioned also that the swearer is very unique color - grayish cold burgundy - and I can not imagine how difficult was to find matching knits! The work was done very quickly - 1 week. You have to underhand that 1 week is quickly considered lady owner only one who are able to do such a delicate work with Chanel cashmere. She also works with Brunello Cucinelli, Loro Puana, Versace and Gucci. She even able to make knit skirt shorter without cutting the ornament pattern! Be aware there is a queue. I found this service through Yelp. I needed a designer sweater repaired that had been destroyed by moths. After sending photos, I VERY quickly got a quote and went to their website for instructions on mailing it in because I live across the country. Even when I asked questions, the online responses were super fast. Coincidentally I was going to be in the area in the coming weeks, so I dropped the sweater off in person. The shop was a treasure trove of random designer items, and a stock room full of St John. There's also a buttons store inside, and I was able to buy a selection of buttons to upgrade my existing clothes. The owner is a lovely, very helpful woman and we bonded well. It took a while to get my piece back because I understand it's a one-woman operation, but when I checked on my item I was reassured it was safe and would be completed soon. I got my sweater back via mail and it was as good as new! I don't know how she works magic like this, but my sweater looked amazing. Now to lose a few pounds so I can fit it as good as it looks!
