I found this place on Yelp and thought I try it for a birthday brunch. My company used to have its annual conference here at this hotel so I remember the patio being nice and spacious. When we arrived here it was a bit strange. Nobody greeted us and there wasn't anyone behind the bar. We looked around and we finally located a server. She was the only one working at the moment. We definitely felt for her. She found our reservation and we were seated with drinks. She was very nice. I think I would be stressed out and overwhelmed if I was the only one working. So hats off to her being awesome. We ordered appetizers while we tried to decide on what to get. I didn't know that we could only order from the brunch menu as they do have a lunch menu too. We were informed that on the weekends they only serve brunch until 3pm. Oopsy! We ordered our entrees and the wait for them was worth it. The food was really good! Especially for a hotel restaurant. Everyone enjoyed their dishes and I really enjoyed the ambiance here. Atmosphere is a 10/10. read more

I'm attending a conference at the Renaissance and must suggest this place. I had dinner here last night, and again tonight. They are a little short staffed, but who isn't right now? I sat at the bar last night and got amazing service, and sat at a bar top tonight. I got the knotty burger and the bruschetta last night, but TONIGHT!? I got the bacon jam burger (suggestion from Ruben) and it was outstanding. The bacon jam has perfectly rendered pieces of bacon that add the most beautiful texture to the complex favors of the burger. You must ask for Ruben. Pretty standard hotel bar, serving up beers and food most of the day, but the ambiance is nice and the outdoor seating provides a decent view and comfortable space to enjoy an evening cocktail. The menu has all the typical American fare, but the dinner plates are a little more upscale than you would except from a hotel bar. Lunch highlights include brisket sandwich, pork tacos, a grilled cheese sandwich with pimento on sourdough, pickled watermelon, roasted beet salad, and Texas queso. For Dinner, we mostly stuck with appetizers and smaller plates -- the spare ribs and pork belly are big hits, as were the shrimp and grits. We stayed away from the steaks, opting to save our meaty appetites for one of the many steakhouses in the area. Our lunch experience was ok, and our dinners were decent, there's just so much good food in the area that this place gets easily out done and kind of forgotten. But, if you're stuck at the hotel for a meal, you won't regret going downstairs for a bite. The staff is really great -- we stayed there for a week and the bartenders we had were all friendly and fast and had good recommendations when it came to the local beers they had on tap, which is always something I appreciate. read more

We were seated promptly but the food took forever and it was not crowded on this Thursday night. Food was not brought out by our waiter who seemingly has disappeared. Our water glasses are empty and we can't eat because no silverware and can't catch the waiter's eye. Food was better than average. Water glasses filled when the bill was delivered. Waiter disappeared with credit card and bill and was gone again a very long time. Still tipped 15% but left aggravated. 3/5 because of food quality only. read more

This area is seriously a hidden gem! it's very pleasing to the eyes and I love the aesthetics matching the holidays. I love the atmosphere as I sat outside on the patio drinking my Prickly Pear Margarita, so freaking yummy! The inside was stunning. Our lovely host (forgot her name) gave some excellent recommendations, we started with the Knotty Tacos and Wings and OMG, I can eat just This and be fully satisfied!! It was so delicious and cooked to perfection. I wish me and my party didn't split the apps because it was so good. I order the NY Steak Medium Rare with a side of Broccolini. Can I say YUMMY!! The manager Robert spoke to our table and made sure we were enjoying everything. He explained they were going to remodel the patio soon and change some things. Great service and a menu that is a bit kicked up and very nicely adventurous, but unfortunately my pork chop was over cooked and lacking in flavor, it looked like a TGIF version. Needless to say, we tried a little of everything. The pork belly app was really nice, the other entrees were pretty good, but I think the grouper was a little over done as well. The shrimp and grits were very good, Shrimp cooked perfectly and nice flavor. The Renaissance Hotel is beautiful and the staff was fantastic-- super friendly and accommodating from the moment I walked through the revolving door. I attended a private Yelp event that was held at the Knotty Deck and Bar. What an amazing venue! From the uplighting to the view from the deck... It was beautiful. Some of the food I tried: pork belly lettuce wrap, brisket taco, watermelon shooter, shrimp and grits, fried pig ear... Everything was great, fresh, flavorful and just well done. The drinks were also flowing y'all: red and white wine, soda, water, signature drinks and local beer. There was a live [local] band that added to the already amazing atmosphere and they were incredible! Food Group was the name of the band. Overall, it was an awesome night at an awesome venue with awesome food, drinks, Yelpers and entertainment. read more

Visited here not during happy hour, or a yelp event, but just for a regular dinner. It turns out this is more a bar with a full menu, that just happens to serve pretty good food. The highlight of the experience is probably the outdoor deck looking out into the valley, in addition to the firepit. A circular wooden table around the pit is convenient for sitting and having a drink, or even a spot to eat dinner. We tried just the small plates consisting of the knotty burger (made with 44 farms beef), shrimp and grits, and the chicken wings. Shrimp and grits - this is a great value since the serving is nearly what you get at many other restaurants for 1/2 or even 1/3 the price. Comes with 4 large shrimp and several pieces of smoked bacon. Burger - a gourmet burger that comes with either house potato chips or their homemade fries, but it doesn't come with lettuce or tomato. Brisket, onion strings and good quality smoked bacon top the burger and they use a local bun. I liked it. It's hard to go wrong with a burger from 44 farms to be honest anyway. Hot wings - probably the weakest item ordered. The order comes with 8 and they have a little kick, but no more than the habanero wings at wingstop. They were a little too bland and nothing really special. Thought they were the one menu item that was a bit overpriced. Service here surprisingly was not so great and took nearly 20 mins to get a waitress to notice us and give out a menu. I'd still come back just for the atmosphere alone. read more

This place has so much promise, but things went downhill from the moment we were seated. First of all, the one thing Knotty deck has going for it is the location, outdoor patio and scenery. It was a breathtaking oasis on the deck, complete with lounge furniture and an upscale firepit blazing. Our party of 7 arrived around 11 am for brunch and were seated outside. Service was SLOWWWW. And the restaurant was not crowded. What gives? We were the only table sitting outside yet our drinks and meals took forever to arrive. Two of the dishes (both shrimp and grits) arrived so late that they didn't charge us for them. Everyone else was almost finished eating at that point. My BLT was rather bland. I asked for a side of aioli and it tasted like nothing. There was no flavor to it at all. It was rather disappointing. Our checks were finally delivered after we moved our party inside because we were all roasting outside in the summer heat waiting for our server to come back. She forgot what each of us ordered so we had to remind her and once given the checks someone in our party actually went to hand deliver them to her because we had places to go and things to do. I'm actually surprised at all the other good reviews. Maybe brunch just isn't their thing. read more

We came for breakfast. It was super basic. We ordered eggs Benedict and an omelette. Both were ok, nothing spectacular. Hash browns were brown on top and luke warm inside. They don't offer breakfast drinks like mimosas or bloody marys. We asked to be seated outside and we're told the manager said they couldn't seat anyone out there, even though there were already two parties on the deck. I should've known this is the experience we'd have as it's a hotel restaurant. Lesson learned. read more

This review is regarding brunch. The menu is varied so should have something for everyone. I had the tasty chilaquiles. Entree portions aren't large so consider getting a side. The bowl of fruit looked great with a variety of fruit including melons and berries. The real star of the show is the lovely patio area which will be great to enjoy in the Fall weather. Knotty or nice... This place had all the elements of creating a perfect lounge/ restaurant atmosphere as it's located on the outer city on Austin. Great for taking ig worthy pictures too. I can only image this place being full on cool evening! The chilaquiles are extra cheesy and crafted for extreme cheese lovers! All well blended I probably could've eaten it twice if it weren't for mindful eating. I would recommend it with a side of avocado and bacon to break it up. Other items ordered at the table that looked delicious we're the B.L.T.E. and the shrimp and grits. My rating doesn't stem from the food or aesthetics but mostly for the service. We were a large party that sat outside on a WARM Texas day and we're constantly disregarded. It took forever to get pitchers of water, there was a lack of commin check in from the wait staff and they forgot 2 orders. At some point we all filtered inside as the sun creeped on us and again - same issues. Overall I would return but would be cautious of dining outside. read more

Looking forward to a good burger, I opened Doordash to start my search. After a long search, I chose Knotty Deck & bar. I placed my order for pick up and headed to the restaurant. When I arrived, I was notified that they don't use Doordash any longer. Since I had already paid, I left home without my wallet. You would expect that any good business would accommodate a Customer for the inconvenience of having driven all the way to the restaurant. They had a lack of concern, even with the restaurant still listed on the Doordash app and absolutely no one in the restaurant. In different to me being a future customer, Knotty Deck and Bar, just dismissed me and told me to contact Doordash. It's like pretty woman...BiG MISTAKE, I went to the Cheesecake Factory a block away and had a much better meal. read more

What's to love: - easy parking - beautiful decor/ambiance - a nice view on the patio - good food for decent prices My short rib hash was AMAZING! The egg, hollandaise, and crispy vegetables complemented each other well. Tastes better with a side of ketchup & tabasco-- because all hash tastes better that way. And my friend's BLTE sandwich and fruit cup looked divine! The fruit cup looked so tropical with pineapples and berries. Because service was a tad slow with getting our waters, they also gave us some complementary biscuits that was very appreciated. Horrible experience! Came for breakfast and we waited an hour and 15 min for Huevos rancheros for 2 people!. Not including the 20 min wait we had to wait her seated. They didn't provide us menus at the time of seating I asked the host she was suppose to bring it to us and never did, then the manager comes and ask us are we ready to order. They told us they were short staffed which we understood until people who came after us with larger parties were getting serviced faster then us! Ridiculous. Color me a fan. My wife convinced me to come here and I hate admitting I live in the arboretum but finally there is a reason to enjoy it. Knotty Deck has quality food options (see menu) and decent cocktails. The ambiance can vary but the service is excellent. The wine list could use more wines by the glass but that would be my primary critique. The food is delicious and they keep refreshing the menu in delicious ways. Again, I hate chains and commercial venues, but the indoors and outdoor area here is excellent. At night, I wish they had more candles on the tables and less overhead lighting indoors. Their guacamole and ceviche was huge, delicious, and tasty. The charred broccoli was very good and so was bacon wrapped venison and grits. The pours of wine are generous. The reclaimed wood bar is excellent and the bartenders are skilled. Where it misses is just the little touches of the big cubed ice in a cocktail glass -- but that isn't a deal breaker. The first time I came here it was for lunch. I got the avocado toast and mac 'n cheese with beef brisket, both of which were AMAZING. I cannot recommend these dishes more. The avocado toast came with pistachios, microgreens, onion powder, sesame seeds, and flax, I think - I am genuinely upset I didn't take a picture. For these dishes, I'll say it's the best hotel restaurant I've ever been to. I came again for the avocado toast, this time at breakfast, but they don't start selling that until 11 (I got the Belgian waffle instead). Based on the pictures of the menus here it looks like their offerings are seasonally-dependent, so I will point out that I got the avocado toast and mac 'n cheese with beef brisket in June (and the berries on the Belgian waffle were strawberries). The Maître d' and assistant chef were wonderful, but our lunch orders took forever to get to us, the Belgian waffle was less than impressive, and the waitstaff isn't fooling anyone, so I think one star off is fair. read more

Comes with pulled pork, cheese, and a fried egg on top. was okay, not stellar + Wild Boar Spare Ribs: yes!! they literally fall off the bone and the rub on the ribs has amazing flavor + Pork Chop: Interestingly topped with peach jam. Whole entree was on the sweeter side. Pork chop was really tough and dry + Strip Steak: The char gave it a really bitter taste; would not recommend + Mexican Dessert Trio: the Mexican chocolate tres leches definitely has a kick to it (spicy so beware!), caramel popcorn ice cream was...interesting. They should have put the ice cream in a small bowl so it would not melt everywhere. Dulce de leche cake was moist and delicious Bottom line: Entrees didn't wow me especially considering the high price tag of nearly $30 per entree. I love their snacks and starters though! Normally I wouldn't think to go to a hotel restaurant that isn't the W or something similar, but this place has definitely earned a spot in my meal rotation. First off, the patio has an incredible view of sunset and the decor is beautiful with lots of lounge style seating so room for groups but also a romantic date night spot. They have happy hour every day, as well as brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Everything is locally sourced and sustainably farmed, they even have their own chefs garden on property where they grow vegetables and herbs. They create everything in house, including breads, sauces, curing meats etc.. The amount of care and thought they put into the food really shows. I had a chance to chat with the chef and several staff members and they're all very passionate about what they do. Favorites: shrimp and freaking grits. Holy wow y'all, this was damn delicious. The brisket was awesome with the house made pickles, as well as very tasty pork belly. The tortilla soup was very tasty with an almost smoky taste, and the chilaquiles were tasty and very cheesy but not my favorite. The short rib hash however was very good, but will definitely send you to a post brunch nap. The sangria is very light and refreshing and the blood orange mimosa was very good. As an Austenite, I adore this place for brunch, lunch, and happy hour! This place is so pretty, the deck was everything and more! We had fun taking a photo shoot on the outside deck. We came here for brunch and the service was a little slow, but the manager was definitely trying to be accomodating to us. Drinks were good, I had the bloody mary and the patty melt which was the most decadent burger ever, big patty, yummy bread, egg, and a side salad. Very fresh and tasty. This was my very first Yelp elite event and it couldn't have been any better than it was. Being new to the Austin area I liked the event being here in this part of town so I can venture outside of south Austin. The event took place inside the Renaissance hotel at the Knotty Deck and Bar restaurant. While the restaurant has seating inside the private yelp event party took place outdoors on the deck. The ambience, fire pit, and fresh breeze was amazing! There are areas to sit outdoors and relax and they even had a live band performing. The food was sooo good. The south Texas heritage pig ear "fries" were pretty good. The hot sauce aioli sauce made the dish! The local heirloom fig and Texan pecan bruschetta was sooooo good (probably one of my top 3 favorite dish I had that night). The house smoke brisket tacos were PHENOMENAL! By far my favorite dish of the night. You have to have it with the pickle on top or else it just doesn't do justice to the extra kick of flavor it gives the tacos. The shrimp and grits was pretty good as well but unfortunately lacked a little bit of flavor. The watermelon shooter were very refreshing and I actually liked it, but not every did. read more
