Remember a while back they had that week with the old style burgers for like $8!? Well that was awesome, but tonight I went for a patty melt and and didn't expect what i got. High quality bread and a full bag of tater tots on the side! The sauce is fantastic and might have special ingredients cause i gave my dog a bite and she's been psycho the rest of the night. Anyways...i only ate half the sandwich after eating so many tater tots on the way home...i can't wait to eat the rest tomorrow.

Waterloo Ice House has such mixed reviews on r/austinfood and Yelp. My one brunch experience here was great, but I can't help but fear my next visit will change my opinion on it. I had a full stack of the cinnamon pecan pancakes, and my friend got the Waterloo migas con chorizo. We both thought the food was really good, and the portions were huge. Our leftovers were enough for another meal. I paid $14 in total for my meal, which is a good price for how much food there was. Our server was very attentive.

Banana cinnamon pancakes. The butter had cinnamon in it and tasted great with the pancakes and syrup.

The food was great. I had banana cinnamon pancakes, and ate them all quickly. The food came out quickly despite our large group and the servers were friendly. The inside of this restaurant has a really nice style behind it and nice music which isn't too loud and blends well with the setting. It also has TVs to watch games or others things on. Overall, amazing experience, will eat here next time I visit.

June features: I need to try the goat cheese croquettes. I can already say that the Asian Slaw Salad is perfect.

There's a Kids' Meal Feature!! (Turkey meatballs over mashed potatoes, with green beans) I love my boring little routines (like tots vs. salad). I branched out today! Waterloo sweet potato fries are very thin and crispy, not the usual hunks of sweet potato that aren't even hot in the center. And the onion rings! The onion still has its essential character, the (light, delicious) breading is the perfect accompaniment. Had I known earlier how good this combination is, I'd have thrown over the perfect Waterloo tots earlier. Well, maybe: they really are perfect too.

Located off Anderson Mill in the corner of a strip mall is a bookshelf with a door on the right side. If you cannot figure out the entrance, there is a doorbell to ring as well. I believe it is owned by the same people who own The Mill bar right next door, which makes it feel like a cool bonus space. My friend and I sat next to a faux fireplace, where we were greeted by the only bartender working and placed our order. Once he opened the tab, it was disappointing that he never came back to check if we wanted another drink. It wasn't super busy on the Monday we went, but since he was the only one manning the bar, the bartender was always doing something, so I don't blame him fully for not checking back in with us. I ordered a drink called the Velvet Vice. It looked nothing like the picture and tasted similar to an Aviation cocktail with egg whites. I happened to really like it. It is a very relaxed space, but once the speakeasy gimmick wears off, it does not have much else going for it. It is still a cool place, but I am not sure it was worth the lengthy drive to get there. Drinks are expensive and served in what feels like miniature target brand, low-quality glasses, which makes the value proposition hard to justify the steep $14 price. The atmosphere is where it really falls apart. The space is set up like a bright, casual brunch hall rather than a cocktail bar--harsh, bright lighting, uncomfortable wooden chairs, and basic wooden square tables that don't align with the concept AT ALL. There's no food offering, yet the environment feels designed for daytime dining rather than an evening bar experience. From a design and hospitality standpoint, it's difficult to understand how this made it to opening in its current state. Even a VERY basic understanding of lighting and ambiance would suggest this setup is fundamentally mismatched--ESPECIALLY for something like a date night. If you're looking for a comfortable or intimate setting, this is NOT it. You'd honestly have a better experience sitting outside a gas station with a 6-pack of Coors Light.

For reasons that make no sense to any experienced summer festival-goer, the Q2 powers-that-be decided to make this a "no re-entry" event, meaning that attendees are basically locked in the stadium with very few options for relief from the heat. Thank heaven for PointsBet Sports Bar! PointsBet Austin is located inside of Q2 stadium on the north end near the Zebra Gate, up some stairs just to your right as you enter the gate. They have cold air-conditioning, at least one phone recharging station, a few table games, seating for at least 50 people, and standing room for a couple hundred others. Plus, there's a huge horseshoe bar serving plenty of canned and mixed beverages. The whole north wall is floor-to-ceiling windows, providing plenty of natural light. Lastly, there are 18 flatscreens around the walls showing various sporting events and during our concert, a couple were streaming a live view of the concert stage. As expected, prices were "high" (like everything else in Austin these days), but they were in line with pricing available at the other beverage stands outside in the stadium, so we didn't pay any more than we would have out there for the same drink. According to their website, PointsBet opens 3 hours before soccer matches on regular Q2 game days, and it's one of the few air-conditioned places where non-VIP attendees can get a break from the goings-on outside.

I enjoyed the potatoes that accompanied it as well. The Buttermilk Pancakes meal was a failure though. The pancakes were gooey inside. My server, Amy, offered to have them remade, but I declined the offer. So I accepted a parfait, which was easily one of the best I've had in Austin. The granola with the berries were perfectly balanced, and the granola wasn't super chunky. Amy was 100% invested in my meal satisfaction. The dining room is quite pretty with lovely set tables. Every time I ate, I felt a tad underdressed! But they don't care if you're comfortably casual, and i saw a family with small children looking very relaxed and vacationy and they were welcome.
