I'm so thankful that I found this place! Since my old stylists kept leaving at the salon that I use to go to, I was hoping to find a good, local stylist who knows how to treat mixed race hair. Several months later, I found Knotty Hair Salon! Ms. Jaclyn (also called Jackie) is my wonderful stylist that has been doing an amazing job with my hair. Although I love & prefer to wear my hair straight, I wanted to get some kind of an idea on how to treat and style my naturally wavy/curly hair, besides the usual wash and go style when I wear it curly. Jackie has been helping me through this process for nearly 5 months now, in addition to keeping my hair laid when it's straight. I'm thankful for Jackie being patient with all of my questions on how to maintain my hair when its both straight and curly. That being said, the customer service is amazing here. All of the ladies I've interacted with are very nice and friendly, especially Jackie. I always have a pleasant experience when coming here. The salon itself is located in a history building across the street from the Suisun Marina. It definitely gives the salon a quaint, yet elegant and cozy feel, which is unique to this salon. Saw Jolene at Knotty today for a haircut, she was great! She was very friendly and listened to what I wanted. She was very careful to make sure I was happy with the end result and took the time to style my hair beautifully! The salon itself is small but beautiful! I love the look of the stations and the hair-washing sinks being in an old bank vault was really cool! The hair cut including styling was only $35 which I feel was quite reasonable considering all the time she spent making it look great! I will definitely be returning here for future cuts and probably for the bridesmaid do I will need in a few months =) read more

I was already incredibly impressed that I was even able to make an appointment for a cut and balayage two days before my desired day. Let alone for a Saturday afternoon! I have always had a dedicated stylist (I'm incredibly picky about who does my hair), but unfortunately she was back in Seattle. I was getting antsy and irritated with my heavy and boring hair. I was feeling bold and daring and I knew that if I didn't act on this feeling right away, that I would chicken out and not go as short and as light as I was wanting to go at this very moment. Lucky for me, Judy had an opening (she was the only one available) and the appointment was set, so there was no backing out now! Judy was incredibly sweet, but honestly, I was a little worried about how everything would come out since I didn't do much research on this salon or stylist ahead of time. But Judy definitely delivered! She gave me exactly the cut that I wanted. The balayage I feel, came out a tad blonder than I had wanted, but it's starting to grow on me (I think it is more so me getting used to how light it is, cause I've never had my hair this light). But the balayage job itself was done great. I would highly recommend this salon. Everyone is very friendly and the customer service is definitely on point. They also offer you champagne or wine while you're getting your hair done! The building is very spacious and well decorated, and I love that it used to be a bank, so they have these amazingly cool vault doors inside. Definitely come and see Judy, but if she's all booked, I have no doubt that the other stylists are wonderful as well. I got to watch the stylist next to me turn her customer's hair into the mermaid colors, the end result was gorgeous! Prices are very reasonable as well (I'm sure they vary depending on stylist). For my cut and balayage, it set me back $160, which is not bad at all. Judy worked hard and did not rush. She started on me around 145pm and I didn't leave till 545pm. I have very thick hair, and A TON of it, so she definitely worked hard to cut, color, and style all of it. read more

My boyfriend has come here several times. He is always pleased with the results of his haircuts. I finally gave in and made an appointment with Hilda. Sweet, sweet girl! She asked me how I wanted it and how much to cut off. She really listened to me and I love how it turned out! She layered my hair, gave it volume and framed my face perfectly. She finished is off with natural waves (just what I wanted). A little but of Moroccan oil and styling wax/pomade to hold it in place. Overall, a great experience at the salon. I wanted an asymmetrical A-line cut... HILDA IS THE ONE FOR THE JOB!! I have never gotten so many compliments on my hair in my life. She knows how to cut an A-line really well. Her coloring job was also awesome, but there was one coloring where my hair looked too "ashy," but it toned out to a more bleach blonde color after a couple of weeks. I'm so sad I have to move out of state and leave Hilda because I love her work. The hair salon is a cute "bank style" place. Very clean. Terrible inquiry service every!!! Reviewed the website. Sent an email to each employee requesting social media accounts to check out their work. Only two replied back!!! One said she has no pictures of her work and another did. Scheduled an appointment and let the hairdresser know that I wanted a consultation before she did anything to my hair. Showed up 10 minutes early let her know what I wanted. The hairdresser said that the lightest I could go was orange. My hair is really dark brown and thick. I asked for the price and she said $260+$50 for a cut!!! She also told me that my appointment was a consultation only. Got my hair done today by Hilda P. I made the appt. the day before and was able to get in right away (1 star). I got there 10 mins early and Hilda was there getting ready for me so I had zero wait time (1 Star) Hilda was very personable and listened to me explain what I wanted, looked at the pictures I provided for style and color reference and immediately got to work (1 Star) Once the color and cut was complete it was exactly what I asked for, nothing more and nothing less. And the price was completely reasonable. (2 stars) I had a great experience. You can tell by my review history I have high expectations and I don't play. I definently recommend Hilda, she was great. She really cares and listens to exactly what you want, she explains exactly what she's doing and is full of spunk. I found this salon through yelp and trusted all of the 5 star reviews.... The location of this salon was easy to find and the building was an old style bank, so the hair washing station was located in the old bank vault. It had the original vault doors, which I thought was really cute. The interior is modern, clean, and chic. I got my hair washed, cut with layers, and styled by Megan. She was great and fast, too! I was in and out of there in about 30 minutes. All of this for only $35...I would definitely come here again! read more

I have been going to the same stylist for 20 years and decided it was time to branch out and try someone new. I have always been so hesitant to try a new stylist because the few times I have, i've regretted it. Today was not that case. Hilda was very friendly and sweet and listened to what i wanted. I showed her two pics of similar hair styles that I liked and she nailed it :) she pays attention to detail and did such an awesome job on my hair. I am so happy with it! This review is in regards to Jolene. I first want to state that I had been going to Jolene since I moved to this area approximately 6 years ago. After tonight, I will no longer be a client of hers or of knotty hair design. I have lost respect for this hairstylist as well as this establishment (the respect for the latter had been lost much long ago). I have never been so disrespected and treated so poorly by someone of whom I was a client. I went in last month to go more natural and had sent a picture of a mahogany brown that I wanted to go with and repeatedly had stated that I did not want to go black (which is in fact my natural but due to my pale complexion, I did not want to return to). After leaving my appointment that day, I noticed a spot that was missing color and had texted Jolene (which had never been a problem before), if she had noticed it and even sent pictures after washing it. She had not replied.. I decided simply because of my tenure as her client that this was acceptable and that I would simply wait to discuss with her at a later time. I then made an appointment with her for TWO services. One to refresh the color and the other to perform a Brazilian blowout. I sent her a text earlier this evening asking if it would be possible to refresh the color but a shade lighter as the ends had lightened to the shade I wanted but the top still remained almost black. She then explained to me that I didn't want a refresh, I wanted a color change. I had explained that my expectation was that it would lighten (which she had told me herself), and it had not, so I was simply trying to get it to the color I wanted when I had it colored originally. She proceeded to tell me that I seem unhappy and she would not be offended if I found someone else.. Wow.. Apparently, it's not acceptable to ask questions. I'm sorry I didn't go to school to learn how to do hair so I don't understand terminology, but what I do understand is your word and your ability to deliver on something that I paid for. If this is how long tenured clients are treated, I am HAPPY to take my business elsewhere. In regards to the establishment... This salon does not allow children UNLESS they have appointments.. So for a single parent like myself, this is a definite deal-breaker. Never in a million years did I ever think that Jolene would become the type of hairstylist I would never recommend.. But a million years has apparently come and I'm now out a hairstylist I THOUGHT I could trust. If I was that big of a pain, I wish she would have spoken up sooner. read more

I absolutely LOVE my hair stylist Jolene Ortega at Knotty Hair. She is amazing and I have been going to her for over 3 years now. She is always readily available and contacts me as soon as she has an opening, if for some reason she didn't have one initially. The vibe in this salon is peaceful. It's relaxing to come here and the chairs are always full. I would definitely recommend Jolene to anyone looking for a stylist who listens to you, but isn't afraid to tell you what will look good! Update as of 02/2015 The only downside to this establishment is that unfortunately they don't allow children under 12 (without an appointment). For myself, as a single mom, that means I have to ensure that I make my appointments while my daughter is at school. Not always a problem unless obviously there are time constraints. Nothing against Jolene of course, but definitely a complaint against the establishment itself. read more
