We recently moved to Fairfield, and one of the hardest things is finding someone you can actually trust with your hair. I had my first haircut somewhere else and unfortunately it didn't turn out right. When Jessica looked at my hair, she noticed a lot of random short layers throughout that didn't really make sense (which I didn't even realize at first because it wasn't super obvious). She took the time to fix my side bangs and blend everything properly, and my hair looks so much better now. She also did my partner's hair and really listened to the inspiration we showed her. Jessica doesn't rush her work at all she takes her time and really polishes everything toward the end so it looks just right. The lounge itself is clean, cozy, and has a really welcoming vibe. I've only ever gone to one other person to professionally color and cut my hair..otherwise I usually settle for wherever I take my kids to get their haircuts, so coming here was kind of a big deal for me. Looking for a hair stylist is one thing, looking for a hair stylist that can help you with your hair pattern is another and while I know I've reviewed many other curly girl stylists I'm glad to of met Meika at Headspace. I texted her with a phone number listed on their website and inquired about a hair cut and their availability and she replied pretty fast and was able to fit me in within three hours. First, let's start with the salon. It's located in the heart of downtown Fairfield while the aforementioned location was in down town Suisun. They have a pretty great rapport with the locals and have a large staff that can handle different hair styles and hair cutting techniques. This new location is large inside, super spacious, and earthy with many plants placed throughout the salon. I love the large space because it keeps the stations relatively cool in regards to temperature, while hair washing stations are another thing as well. The hair washing stations are comfortable with a nice basin that has a support for your head. Meika was awesome. She sat and listened to what I wanted, what my current hair care was like, and made some really great suggestions while informing me of the curly hair cut process. Throughout the consultation I was more than confident in her to allow her free roam on my mane. I hadn't had a hair cut in over a year and had chemically processed it so length was not too important to me. She shaped, trimmed, and styled my hair and it came out fantastic. We met with Meikaiala for a consult/education appointment with our 1 year old daughter with curly hair. The appointment was SO helpful. She met with us for an hour & went through all of the products we were using and we what she recommended we use in their place. She educated us on our daughter's hair type and why certain products would not be helpful in keeping her hair hydrated. She did a wash and style and allowed us to both watch her use the products and style her hair and practice ourselves! She even had a teddy bear for our daughter We learned so much from this appointment and feel much more confident about doing our daughter's hair and ensuring it's healthy and styled and well. I found this salon online and desperately needed to cut my hair after about a year and a half since my last cut and color. The site was easy to use, the bios provided were helpful and I was able to find the salon on instagram to review each stylist and pick the right fit. I was easily able to book an appointment with Samara. She was wonderful and did an excellent job giving me the cut I asked for. I was five mins late but she was so sweet about it. I was really interested in taking off a lot of length and adding to layers around the face. She was extra careful to be sure I was really ready to chop off a lot of length. She also cleaned up my undercut which I didn't specify ahead of time but she was able to accommodate cleaning it up for me. She was super friendly as were the other stylists that were present. I am 3 time returning client for Meika's services. I brag about how amazing she is but recently had an unfortunate experience with her. I told her about my experience and she responded with saying my comments questions and concerns would be acknowledged. She only acknowledged that I wasn't too happy with her being 48 minutes late to our appointment and emphasized that's she is a mother and a business owner. I had to pay a babysitter to make it on time to my appointment and was under the impression that my appointment would be 180 after consulting her on what appointment I should book. After showing her my inspo pics she said it'd be $20-30 more which I was okay with. In my mind I went with $30 just to be safe thinking it'd be $210. She asked if I wanted a cut and I said no, then said just a few pieces that are sticking out but she never said "okay I'm going to charge that as a partial cut". There wasn't much that came off. Can you imagine my confusion at the end when I was charged 305 and then very non chalantly says "I normally don't offer partial cuts" but it was one of those things that you can't really speak up about. I paid 225 for my color and 80 for the cut that I wasn't aware of. And she did not acknowledge my confusion on that part. Besides the color, it looks the same. I feel very misunderstood. read more

I've been struggling to find someone who knows what to do with my hair ever since my regular stylist retired/moved. I found out about HeadSpace by going down an Instagram rabbit hole, starting with my former stylist's lists of followers, and ending up on Meika's profile, and made an appointment. First - I love love LOVE how my haircut turned out! I explained that with one of my last salon haircuts, I ended up having to go through with texturizing scissors and really thin it out additionally. I had asked my list stylist to do this, and she... sort of did, but was hesitant, and my hair still felt so heavy afterwards. Meika acknowledged that some stylists are sort of "afraid" to use those. I showed her some pictures of how my hair used to look and how I wanted it to be again. She razor cut my hair instead and helped it not feel like it was weighing me down. Another concern I had, was because I was a couple months postpartum, I was experiencing postpartum hair loss which typically occurs between 3-6 months after giving birth. I was shedding TONS every day. Somehow despite thinning my hair out and cutting off a couple inches, she made my hair look thicker, fuller and with lots of volume! As for hair coloring, this was my only disappointment but because my hair is really resilient and lightened so slowly. I was there for a few hours and we had to, in Meika's words, "lower the blonde expectation" as my hair just wouldn't go lighter in this first session. That's totally not her fault and totally okay. Otherwise I love how the coloring turned out, and will most likely be re-booking with Meika again when I'm ready for another cut and color. read more

My stylist for almost a decade finally retired so I've been on the hunt to find a new one who could layer and texturize my hair exactly the way I like it. This is a hard thing to find, as I learned 10 years ago, so I knew this was going to be a feat. Thankfully, I didn't have to search long (or far!). I was invited by my cousin to fill in a vacant appt that her friend could no longer make. Perfect timing as I needed a trim. Alyssa took care of me and cut my hair beautifully! She understood what I was going for, was super pleasant to talk to, and worked with me to thin out my hair exactly the way I wanted it. She literally chopped off what feels like a pound of hair while still preserving the length as I told her that I am planning to grow my hair out really long. I really liked the shop itself and the people who work here, but I'm sooo disappointed with my haircut I could just cry. I specifically said I didn't want it blunt or choppy, and that I wanted it light and feathery. I straightened my hair to see how it would look and I was shocked at how awful it looks. I absolutely hate the blunt, straight across look. In the last picture, it looks like I just got a big chunk removed. I'm not sure if stylists are even able to make fresh haircuts not look so blunt, but I've always hated it. I wanted my ends to look feathery, not like someone cut a paint brush in half and left it. Guess I'll have to wait another year for it to grow out. read more

I had an amazing experience with Samara! To start with Samara was super flexible and was able to fit me in within the same day and it was great spending the day with her. She answered all of my questions and finally helped me figure out the shade of blonde highlights that I've been looking for for years (she told me to ask for beige highlights and my natural color is dark brown). I initially was interested in trying out this salon after reading some Yelp reviews since I am fairly new to the area and still have not found a salon I am crazy about. So I texted the number of the so called blonding expert, Lewy who supposedly knows ash colors very well which I tend to gravitate to. But when whoever was on the other line asked me for picture after picture of my root and hair color, I just thought it seemed odd and it actually made me uncomfortable. By the way I am a licensed esthetician and have worked around many different hairdressers and not once have they ever asked for online pictures of their potential clients before the actual appointment that I am aware of. And I know for a fact that I have never been asked for personal pictures of my hair before meeting any new hairdresser. Usually when you first meet with a new hairdresser you have a consultation in person. So the whole thing was just unsettling. It should have been easy to make an appointment but with so much back and forth over something that should have been very simple I decided this place would probably not be for me. Honestly the whole thing just seemed ridiculous and quite unprofessional, that after sending several different photos (which she did actually "lol" on one of them saying she couldn't see my roots at all which clearly they were quite visible in the pic so that to me was just a strange and somewhat unprofessional response. After what seemed like an unnecessary amount of photos were exchanged she still couldn't seem to grasp the idea of what my roots look like or should like, why that mattered at that point, who knows? Why does she even need to know that before the actual appointment? I'm the one who should be picking out the hair color in the first place and who was I really sending pics too? Let me point out once again that I had never met this hairdresser before. I mean the whole thing just seemed so bazaar and an utter waste of time to me, so I'm out. read more

She was really patient with me and my hair since it was the first time I'd be dying it. We spent about 10 minutes talking about how I wanted my hair based on pictures I showed her and she went through a breakdown of what she was going to do for that session. I was nervous the whole time since it was my first time dying my hair, but she's super easy to talk to and made me feel as if we've known each other for a long time. Before my special day I was advised to have a trim and deep conditioning treatment. Salons are just not my favorite. A lot of times it can be uncomfortable and the stylists have a tendency to not be welcoming. In the past I've had that same experience with Head Space, but thought why not try my friend's recommendation of having an appointment with Terresa. Upon walking in I was greeted with a genuine smile and such a pleasant sunny personality. That's a first. Terresa was a breath of fresh air from hair stylists I've come across. She actually sat down with me for a few minutes to find out what I was interested in doing for my hair. Usually I'm accompanied with awkward silence until it is time to pay. Not with Terresa. I loved how she would start small talk and engage in conversations with me. As for the hair cut and deep conditioning I was very satisfied with her work. There was still a good amount of length to my hair and the layers were done properly. For the deep conditioning treatment she created a concoction to add both volume and moisture to my dry and thin hair. After she was finished with everything my hair looked and felt so healthy! My hair even smelled amazing after showering that night. Yes, my scalp was moisturized and still is! You get what you pay for and Terresa proved me it was worth every dollar!
