    Cajun Crawfish Boil
    Kylie M.

I didn't know what to expect with this spot but it did not disappoint. Place has an old school way of taking reservations (call and write you down on a piece of paper), but it works! They were slammed from 5-9 and they still had great service. The crawfish were up there on my list of favorites (which I was also surprised by), but would absolutely return. Decent prices, classic beers on tap, and all the Cajun food you can eat! A fun date night or summer night out to switch things up.

Let me start with - I have wanted to visit Knotty Pine on the Bayou for a long time. It has been on my list for over two years. So I went in with high expectations - me being someone who loves Cajun food. The pros: The help was very good. Our waitress was kind and she knew the menu well. The ambiance was good - we got there right when they opened for dinner at 5pm, so there was no wait, and we got our food quickly. The okays: The food. I LOVE etouffee - but I was disappointed. It was kind of one-note and just okay. The fried alligator bites were also okay, as were the jumbo shrimp (they come with the heads on). My friend had the special scallops over pasta, and he said they were the best scallops he had in his life - so maybe I just misordered. No real negatives. I just was really excited to be blown away by Cajun food, and it was just okay.

The crab cakes were perfect and the potatoes and okra were perfect adds!

Karissa took total care of us. But the whole team was so great. We felt like regulars here which was awesome. The food was delicious as well. The portions are yooge so come hungry! We love it all. The crab cakes were nicely prepared and full of flavor. The potatoes and okra were really great sides too. The shrimp and pasta were flavorful and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. I plan on trying the gumbo next trip. My wife had it and it was fabulous. We enjoyed our time here and so will you. Plan on stopping in. They'll take great care of you and you won't leave hungry!

We had absolutely amazing service for my son's birthday. He wanted a nice dinner and they put a candle in his steak which was awesome. The food was absolutely delicious there and next day as leftovers. I did not expect a place straight out of Louisiana right here in Kentucky!

Knotty pine is such a fun way to get food we normally can't find in our area. Between the alligator, crayfish and gumbo you really can't go wrong. The staff is always super nice, they take great care of their guest! And when you walk in you are transported to Louisiana. The art on the walls and all the decor is just great. Perfect date night spot if you're looking to try some different things and good for the family too!

This was very good! We had the oyster bienville and it was ok and pretty small for the price. Everything else was fantastic. Creole sauce had a bite with the scallops. Gumbo was great. Fried sea bass was exceptional. I loved the grits and collard greens. We shared the opera cake and it was fine. It was a moist piece of cake with an intersting texture of very sweet frosting.

The food and drinks were amazing. Not pictured but the crab cakes were probably the best I've ever had. The service wasn't great but it was also the holidays and they were probably short staffed so I'll give them a break.

    Sidewinder fries with Cajun gumbo
    Janice W.

We had a great meal at Knotty Pine on the Bayou. The portions are huge, the service was good, and everything was served hot. The sidewinder fries with Cajun gumbo as an appetizer is literally enough to feed 4 to 6 people, it comes out on a platter. The restaurant does get very loud on the weekends if that is something that you do not care for. We will definitely return!

The Shrimp PoBoy bruschetta was very flavorful. My lobster dip was nice and creamy and work well on the sliced crostini bread. We all had the Blackened salmon with rice & beans. The salmon was perfectly cooked and very flavorful with just enough blackened seasoning to enhance the flavor. We had a reservation for 6pm and walked in and got right to our table, with drinks shortly following. I ordered their espresso martini, which was very solid. For an appetizer I ordered their soup of the day (clam chowder) and entree was the orange roughy in a lemon cream sauce, with wild rice and broccoli on the side (and my wife got the prime rib - WOW!). Both were EXCELLENT - wish the portion sizes were bigger honestly on mine! For dessert we all split the lemon mascarpone cake and cheesecakes, which were devoured. Then, because it was one of those rare warmer nights in February, we went outside and sat in front of the fireplace and drank a bottle of wine and hung out for an hour or two. Our server and the manager were absolutely awesome and hit all the high points. Definitely a great experience all around. Only SLIGHT downside was the parking lot around back, which was totally full, but can't really fault Green Line for that. We found street parking not far away. Five stars for Green Line - 100% will be back!

They had just had a storm roll through and were experiencing a bunch of power outage problems, and the staff were able to pivot well around this issue. Which for me wasn't really an issue, because I like sitting in a darkened room anyways and I thought that was just the ambiance they were going for. I kicked off with a Buffalo trace martini and whooooo was it good and definitely a martini to be sipped and enjoyed. I followed that then with their shrimp cocktail special that I was not prepared for it to come in an actual cocktail glass and they officially have made the most gorgeous shrimp cocktail I have ever ordered. My server was super awesome and she suggested I also get their bread basket because she's heard great things about the truffle butter and sweet butter that come with it and let me tell you all something. The truffle butter was good, but the sweet cream butter I would gladly eat on everything the rest of my life, it was that incredible. For my main course I ordered the prime rib that they're known for and while I liked it, I wish I'd asked for it to have been cooked a little more than medium well, but that's just my personal preference and I knew I should have gone with what I normally do. The sides were fantastic and paired well with it, and I also got a side of their vegetable risotto which I ate for breakfast the next day without shame. I then finished the meal off with the delectable lemon cake you see pictured here and it was so smooth and delish. I basically had to roll out. I will be sure to visit again the next time I'm going to Louisville!

Update: the store did address and take care of my concerns…read more I visited Pepper's on June 9th and had one of the most awful experiences I have had at a restaurant. Upon arrival, I ordered a half frozen and half soft serve strawberry margarita. The server brought out a strawberry and mango soft serve margarita and I let him know that this is not at all what I wanted and repeated my original order. He told me that they were not able to make my request. This is not true as I had JUST received that 2 days prior. I was very impressed with Pepper's the few days before when I had visited and came back so quickly to have the same experience, which was not at all what happened. He did not offer to ask anyone else if this is something that they could do (WHICH THEY HAD JUST DONE 2 DAYS PRIOR) and just repeated that they could not do that. The restaurant closed at 10pm and my husband and I were still chatting at 9:54 pm when we were approached and ASKED TO LEAVE so he could clean the table. I have been a server in the past and have NEVER worked in a restaurant so disrespectful and rude. Every place I have ever worked at operates under the "If there are people still sitting here, we wait for them to leave to lock the doors" premise. Being asked to leave so he could cash out was entirely disappointing, completely unprofessional, and downright rude especially given that it had NOT EVEN HIT CLOSING TIME. I am glad he asked us to leave, because at this point, that will be the LAST time we are ever asked to leave Pepper's in Highland Heights. Horrible service. Would not recommend. My husband gave the full tip, and the server was lucky because if I had been paying, he would have gotten no tip. AGAIN: this is coming from a prior server that would have NEVER behaved in this way. This server was not even pleasant.

The place is small and had a very weird vibe between fine dining and kitschy. White tablecloths, but then lots of purple and pictures of roosters everywhere (I realize the name, but hmmm). Our server was lovely but would disappear for too long between times when she should have been present. We ordered our drinks at 745pm, and I watched them sit at the end of the bar. Finally, at 805pm, I went to the bartender and said, "those are our drinks that have been sitting there for a while". Our server brought them over like we ordered them 5 minutes prior. But the lovely owner/manager came over and said the "drinks are on me" because we waited so long. We appreciated that! The fried chicken was good, but the breading was very salty. The green beans were almost inedible because they were so salty. The mashed potatoes were average. The biscuits were fantastic. The fried deviled eggs were okay. A regular deviled egg is better. The shrimp and grits had a lot going on. The shrimp was lightly battered and fried (?) and the flavor of the dish was bold. I think sauteed shrimp and a little less gravy would make it perfect.
