I've been in town visiting Rock Hill for the past few days. Rock Hill has a charming downtown area. Knowledge Perk sits around the downtown area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside the interior has an industrial feel with that marvelous red brick on each side.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I love the sign near the front that reads "Hear me, See me, Accept me." What a profound message for the world these days. Their coffee is OK here. Nothing that I'm blown away or taken aback with. The staff member who took my order and served my coffee was friendly and personable. Besides coffee, they offer fresh bakery. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I also like that they have a bay door to enjoy the beautiful weather on a day like today.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is plenty of seating inside. They have two long high top tables with beautiful wooden counter tops and there are several electrical outlets for charging your mobile devices.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I recommend visiting Knowledge Perk if you're visiting. Every single time I come to Knowledge Perk, it's a perfect experience. The staff are always friendly, engaging, kind, and genuinely seem happy to be at work. The coffee is consistently delicious. I would like to start by saying that I have been a loyal customer of Rock Hill Knowledge Perk since 2022. I have consistently had great experiences there and have always enjoyed the products. I've never received anything I didn't love. However, on Sunday, March 22, I visited the store to get my usual latte after church and lunch, and I was met with the worst customer service have ever experienced. The way I was spoken to, as well as how another employee was treated by the girl behind the register, was absolutely appalling. I did not ask for her name directly, but she was wearing glasses and I believe her coworker referred to her as Addison. Her attitude was extremely rude and hostile, and I was honestly so shocked that I didn't even know how to respond. After ordering, I sat down to enjoy my latte, but the situation only worsened. She began making highly inappropriate and disrespectful comments about other individuals, many of whom seemed to be her coworkers. At one point, she said that someone was "dressed like a f-ing ragdoll," which is completely unacceptable language in a professional environment. Additionally, the way she spoke to her coworker was very concerning. She used a condescending and demeaning tone, speaking to her as if she were incompetent. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It created an uncomfortable and unwelcoming atmosphere for customers.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I try not to let ne negative experience change my overall opinion of a usiness I've respected for so long, but this situation vas beyond disappointing. I decided to cross states lines from Charlotte, NC to Rock Hill, SC, and this coffee shop was definitely worth the drive. Knowledge Perk is a great coffee shop with a great vibe, great coffee and great service. The menu offers a variety of hot and cold coffee drinks and pastries. Common spaces and restrooms are clean and comfortable. There is plenty of free parking around and easy to get to. The GPS will take you straight to it of you are not familiar with the area. A lot to like about this place. Lot's of choices of fresh roasted beans, various choices of tea's and nice selection of snackables like muffins & pastries. They also have an extensive selection of beans which they will custom grind for you. The space is 'large', literally the largest coffee shop I've ever been to. They've made excellent use of an older building off of White street near the center of Rock Hill. The exposed brick is incredible as well as the custom wood work for the tables and serving area. It's an old 'cotton mill' so it has the 'feel' of character from an older building with the polished concrete floor industrial lighting and high ceilings. As I cruised around, I noticed there is evidence of an old 'cotton scale' in the floor which I thought added an authentic feel. The girl I talked to said they have been there for '2 or 3 years'. Ahhh OK, is it 2 or 3? or closer to 4? In any case, it's a large open space but it's well designed so you don't feel like you're in a cotton warehouse. There is also a good sized enclosed conference or meeting room in the center which looks as though it would be a great space for gatherings. I also like the back space that's connected to the 'Dust Off' brewery next door. Large and open for fresh air, a few tables and chairs about as well as lighting for the evening. I also like the 'garage' door in the front so it can be open for some fresh air circulation when the weather suits. Also some outside tables and chairs fronting White St which might be a bit questionable due to traffic noise and auto emissions. I rarely go 5 stars the first time around for any business but it's clear the owners put considerable thought into the design/build of this business. I was close to going 5 stars but couldn't quite get there on this first visit. My sole suggestion is their website. It needs some attention. They now have a location in Fort Mill which it doesn't mention. There is a reference to their 'Coffee Bus' with a photo but that's it. They park the bus in the side parking lot and it's big one so who knows, maybe they plan to have a coffee brew trail like the York County Brew trail. They talk about 'Our Mission' which seems worthy as it's focused on 'community' but it doesn't reference who 'Our' is. I just hope it's not a subsidiary of a large Corp chain but who knows. They also have an 'on line' order feature which offers the prospect of discounts for customer loyalty. There is only one station for adding sweetners etc and it's well hidden behind the main serving area and there was no stevia option but lots of Splenda and raw sugar. If you don't ask for cream, you missed your chance because there is no self serve creamer options, you have to go back and get in line. Hopefully it's not too busy and you don't have to stand in line for a long time Plenty of free parking and easy access off White St. read more

Visited this coffee shop last Saturday during the alice in wonderland geo games event that was being held in this town. We walked from main street to here, but it took us FOREVER because a passing train had stopped on the tracks for over an hour and blocked all of the roads to get to the other side. After what should have only been a 10 minute walk, it took us 20 minutes to get there and we were cold! Thankfully, the shop was open & was warm. I ordered a white mocha latte even though I normally get an iced latte, but it was needed and very tasty. My husband (not a coffee drinker) got a hot chocolate & their sausage egg and cheese puff pastry. There were no vegetarian options for me to get other than cookies, so I stuck to my coffee only. Wish there was a plain croissant or something that I could have gotten, but it was no issue. Overall, definitely recommend! read more

So...apparently my drinking this cup of coffee in person does not give me adequate knowledge to determine whether or not there is in fact foam on this "latte". After 10 years of residing in Seattle drinking lattes by award winning baristas, after working as a barista for 5+ years, as a culinary arts graduate who was professionally trained to make espresso, lattes and cappuccinos, I guess I don't know a crap cup of coffee from a good cup of coffee. Let me clarify. This "latte" was scorched, the tiny film of "foam" on the top of this beverage was gone after the first sip. I took the picture as it was presented to me. Why didn't I ask the barista to remake this? Because when I asked for a latte they actually asked me "would you like milk in that?" In a latte...the definition of which is espresso and steamed milk with a layer of foam on top...? Yes, I'd like some milk please. Out loud I said, "in a latte? Yes, I'd like milk." The barista treated me like I was asking her to go milk the cow. I actually ended up throwing this away and stopping at a Starbucks drive through. It actually tasted better than this. read more

Local coffee shop in town which probably is one of my favorites. The atmosphere in the inside is calming. A great place if you want to get some work or studying done. The pricing is very reasonable. I love the chai there. I usually which it up sometimes but I got the blended chai this time and it was perfectly blended. It wasn't to icy nor did it have chucks of ice. I was able to get every last drop out of the cup! Probably one of the best blended chai I have had. They also have pasties and there is usually a food truck outside also. Gorgeous location and indoor seating, decent service and pretty weak coffee. I try to find local coffee shops wherever I travel and having a little time before my sons soccer game I decided to take a little time to try a "local gem". There was a little on street parking in front of the shop but not much. The other option was the mud pit across the street that screamed "hold my beer and watch this". I think there was some more parking further past the shop but cannot say for sure. When we walked in we were in awe of the inside of this place. It is one of the largest, private coffee shops I've visited. Plenty of seating and alot of open space. I checked in on Yelp, as I always do, and noticed a free latte. When I showed that to the person taking our order she and the gentleman she called over both said they had never seen it before and didn't know anything about it. They did say they were going to honor the perk but after pointing out that it required a $15-$20 purchase I opted not to use it. I ordered a cold brew and a chai latte with almond milk. Both were served correctly as ordered and quickly. I noticed the cold brew looked like a dark tea and the taste wasn't that far off from a dark tea either. I take my cold brew black and usually have to water it down because it's so strong however, this tasted very watered down already. It tasted like what I've made at home and didn't let brew long enough. I asked the barista if their cold brew normally looked that light and she just said "yes" while walking away. No concern that I would be asking that question which probably should have raised a red flag. Next was the chai - equally watered down. It was pretty much just warmed almond milk. At this point I just decided it wasn't my day for coffee and let it be. read more

So, we frequent the Ft. Mill location often because we live in Ft. Mill but we figured we'd take an even longer drive today to check out the Rock Hill location. This place was bigger than the other, but just as friendly and inviting. We were greeted as if we were regulars, which was really nice. We both got seasonal drinks (Campfire S'Mores for me and the Tropical Christmas Latte for my husband) and they were both really very delicious. I absolutely loved the industrial feel of the inside of this location with the exposed brick walls. This is definitely a cool spot to hang out and there was a TON of seating so you could absolutely hang out there for a while with a group of friends, or just by yourself if you wanted to enjoy a book or work on your computer. read more

Wanted to give a shout out to these great guys, I am grateful they were able to come and setup a mobile stand in my neighborhood this morning. Got a good cup of coffee and discovered they bake fresh Cinnamon rolls each morning. Naturally my wife, kid and I got 2 of them and a cookie! I was expecting a big tab, but it was really affordable considering the two rolls, cookies and coffee. The coffee was smooth and easy to drink, my neighbors got a latte that they said was good, they brought a huge machine with them to setup! The biggest bonus was the cinnamon and crack rolls. They are rich, which is something that I normally don't like, but the icing was fluffy and the cinnamon balanced really well. The dough was flakey but also that yummy chewy blend you can't stop eating. It was horrible for my waste, but great for my taste buds! I am looking forward to visiting their shop in Rock Hill eventually, stopping in for a coffee and roll before getting a beer at Dust Off sounds like a great adventure! read more

I woke up before my whole family at the Cambria down the street. In desperate need of coffee, I went next door to find the closest coffee shop closed... I knew Knowledge Perk was just up the road so I set off on foot for the .4 mile to coffee. As I approached, I saw a gentleman exit with a warm paper cup in his hand! Instantly relived to see activity, I blindly entered the door, walking straight PAST the sign/people/checkin table there for a PRIVATE EVENT. Oblivious (see caffeine deprived), I marched up to the counter set to order. The kind woman behind register gently asked if I was part of the group (a sensory sensitive Santa event ), and I confirmed I was not. Mortified, I asked "are you not open?!" She said "no, sorry we open at noon". I think she could see the defeat in my eyes because she offered to make my coffee anyway. Bless you kind woman. My americano made the solo walk back to the hotel so much brighter!!! Sensory Sensitive Santa event is so near and dear to my heart! What a cool private event. Knowledge Perk is my favorite place to get coffee in Rock Hill. I have been supporting this local business since they were just a small shop and only had a few employees. My usual pick is the Fire on Ice but you can't go wrong with any of their options. My only complaint is the consistency of the espresso pulls as some can be light and others can be over heated and leave an odd after taste. Overall I to stop in regularly and get a great cup of local roasted coffee. read more

Best place to hang out and get some work done in Rock Hill. This spot is full of Winthrop students and faculty members. Great service and delicious coffee. Can be a little difficult to find a seat during peak hours...10AM-2 PM during the school year. Also have some good outside seating, works well when the weather is good. We first found out about this place because our neighbor scheduled their food truck to come do a pop up - we are so glad that they did! We have been hooked, ever since. The store is very nice, the employees are very friendly and happy to help answer any questions or offer suggestions. Their cinnamon buns are a must, as well! I am glad Knowledge Perk came to Rock Hill. It's great to have small businesses to support! There are enough Starbucks on every corner, it's fun to have a place like KP. The vibe here is awesome. People on dates, studying together, reading, everyone does their own thing. The baristas have always been so friendly and ready to offer suggestions. There is ample indoor and outdoor seating, with couches, communal seating, and two top tables. The facility is clean and well kept. The only qualm I have are the prices. I know that KP is not running off of the same amount of business that large chain companies have. But, it's a little bit crazy when a small iced coffee ran to about $6. The base price (like 3.45 for a basic, hit coffee) is awesome! The second you start adding any sort of flavors or anything, the price goes up and up. Unless you're getting a lot of extras added in, I feel like the base price listed on the menu should cover flavoring plus creamer/half and half/milk/etc. Again, this is a small business and I am happy to support it, but business is always booming here, I feel like lowered costs may help even more! read more

These guys came to our neighborhood and set up their mobile shop in a neighbor's driveway at the neighborhood's request. They were very friendly and professional. We bought 2 cinnamon rolls, 2 cookies and a cup of coffee. The coffee was good. The cinnamon rolls were excellent, super rich, flakey, and full of flavor. We haven't tried the cookies yet, but the look delicious! I can't wait to check out their retail location once quarantine restrictions are lifted.
