Fly Kid Fly has been on my "To Try" list for quite some time! Let me just say, they didn't just meet my expectations - they soared past every expectation. Not only was the coffee shop full of life and character - the staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They walked us through the menu and over all were just full of energy. We got two different kinds of matcha. The Afterglow and the Cumulus. The Afterglow was matcha, strawberry & rice crispies syrup, milk of choice, cold foam, with strawberry dusting. This tasted like a strawberry short cake! It was delicious!! The Cumulus was matcha, toasted coconut, milk of choice, sugar, blue spirulina, floated with a cloud of cream, agave & sea salt. Think more of an early and sweet vibe. Both drinks were crafted to perfection and looked stunning. They had sweetness to them but were not overly sweet. I would highly recommend both of these. I am excited to try the coffee next time we come! The shop was clean, modern, trendy, and groovy. There is indoor and outdoor seating. We sat inside and really enjoyed the ambiance. Nice, convenient spot for tasty coffee & tea drinks. I really enjoyed my iced cumulus, with matcha, cold foam, and... something blue. The matcha flavor could have been a bit stronger, but overall very drinkable. There is some seating inside, although on a nice day most folks take their drinks outside. I didn't realize they'd write my name on my cup. Otherwise, I would have made sure they had the correct spelling. I would have appreciated if they'd asked me how to spell it. Limited food options (pastries, breakfast burrito), but PopUp Bagel is just across the lawn, so it's easy enough to go get that. read more

Quick little breakfast spot in Ballantyne! The burrito was honestly the perfect amount of food and the hot sauce that comes with it complimented it so well. It was very crowded so we did have to wait a little for the burrito, but not too long. Only thing I would recommend is more outdoor, shaded seating. read more

Stopped by this location for the first time today. It's located in the Bowl. The spot was nicely decorated and made great use of the limited space. There's a good number of seating and standing area given the small space. They also have coffee beans and merch for sale. Service was great. I think the best part about Fly Kid Fly is the location. Walking around the track at Ballantyne's backyard and stopping by for a Cumulus latte has become one of my favorite things to do! This was one of the best matches I've had in Charlotte. Although I don't live in the area I made an effort to try the most popular ones I could find and this one def lived up to the hype. Well balanced flavors and the coconut milk with spirulina gives the drink a smooth creamy flavor. The line wasn't long and my server took the time to tell me what drinks were sweet vs not. The overall vibe of the cafe is clean and I love how they really stick with the fly kid fly theme through the space. Small coffee shop with iced and hot espresso drinks. I found the menu was limited. For example they told me they only offer homemade vanilla and mocha flavoring for drinks, and they don't offer whipped cream but can make a frothy foam "whip cream like" topping for drinks. I ordered an Americano and it was good. (I asked them to add the "whipped cream like" foam topping) The espresso had a smooth taste, it was not bitter and very bold in flavor. The homemade Vanilla was very good. So basically the limited menu resulted in a drink that I enjoyed. The service was friendly but I waited outside and enjoyed the weather while the store was filled with customers for at least 25 minutes. I wouldn't recommend ordering at this location if you are in a hurry, but then again it was on a weekend so maybe other times aren't as busy?? read more

Decided to check out this new coffee shop at the Bowl in Ballantyne! We were able to order quickly and decided on the cappuccino, vanilla latte and orange cranberry muffin. Service was quick for the vanilla latte and muffin. However, it took almost 10 minutes for the cappuccino which is a bit long considering the line wasn't really long. Vanilla latte was good, cappuccino a little strong and the muffin was just okay. Definitely wouldn't get the muffin again. The bakery is brought in from another bakery as I saw them taking items from the box to restock. They offer no flavors beyond vanilla and no creamers. This review is service based. I went in today and got 4 matchas and 1 kid drink. Ordered my drinks, gave them a tip and everything. I brought my drink tray to the table and dropped one matcha all over my leg and all on the floor. It was a big drop and everyone in that store saw it. Not one worker from behind that stand offered to help or ask if I was okay. Mind you, it was not busy either that time and there were at least 4-5 people behind that counter. My sister had to ask them for towels to clean up ourselves. Definitely felt that everyone that day was trying to not make eye contact or acknowledge me, avoiding having to deal with it. Unfortunately I had loved coming back to get their drinks but they've lost a customer from this encounter. This review is about the service. My sister ordered 5 drinks and tipped and she carried them all on one drink carrier that it was put in. As she was divying up the drinks inside at a table, she accidentally spilled an entire drink. Everyone inside gasped and looked and our natural reaction is to clean up and not make a big deal of it. My cousin and I scrambled to find some napkins to clean up the mess. I asked the staff if there was any more napkins they had because there's been a drink spilled. A girl just said I have towels and gave me 2 and we went and cleaned the spill. It clearly wasn't enough so I had to go back to ask for more towels. I noticed that not once did staff acknowledge the spill nor offered assistance. There's usually a line out the door but not this day and at least one staff member out of the 4-5 can at least take initiative to offer help or at least get some stuff for us to clean. We cleaned up the spill ourselves, wiped down every single spot clean and no one even told us where we could leave the towels at afterwards. Accidents happen, but they don't care. So glad I got a chance to visit this coffee shop it was refreshing with a modern aesthetic, it's bright/welcoming and in a buzzing location close to other restaurants so it's perfect for a coffee chat that can turn into a night out. It's fairly new having only opened late last year but the quality and service were good. I enjoyed some of the unique drink options and the coffee was good quality. If you don't like coffee they also have tea as well as food options like breakfast burritos, brownies, muffins, scones, and cookies.
