They were assigned to my HVAC issue by home warranty service. The person who came told me that there are mandatory charges for additional unknown components other than evaporator coil, when only evaporator coil was leaking. Saturdays morning thermostat wasn't keeping up to temp and we are to leave town for 24 hrs. I chatted with Chad he gave me some things to try. When that didn't work he was there quickly to check it out and say what he thinks was the problem and it didn't require a fix and that if it doesn't resolve later then we could look deeper. This A/C problem took over 2 weeks to resolve while the weather was so hot that I had to go rent a room at a hotel for 3 days. Otherwise, I could have died of heat exhaustion. It was hotter in my house than the 97-degree temps outside that first week, due to the sunlight beating down on the house all day. There were heat warnings, and I have COPD, so it is dangerous for me to live in such heat 24 hours a day. First, the Koalified technician told American Home Shield (AHS; my home warranty company) that my condenser needed to be replaced but was under manufacturer warranty. I checked the manufacturer's website and discovered that the A/C was no longer under manufacturer warranty. I had to call AHS and Koalafied several times over several days to establish what I already knew and told them -- that the manufacturer warranty was expired. Originally, AHS only approved the labor involved, but I finally got them to check again with Koalafied and determine what I already knew: that my unit's manufacturer warranty was out of date. Even when I spoke to AHS staff and had the case escalated, no one ever called me back from AHS. All they had to do was go to the manufacturer's website and enter the serial number I gave them and they would have immediately known that I was right about that warranty, but no one did that. They relied on erroneous information from Koalafied and they said the fix would cost $1,150. I spoke to Koalafied and got them to acknowledge that my unit was out of manufacturer warranty. Still no callback from AHS. I had to call AHS until one of their agents finally decided to call and talk to Koalafied while I was on the phone. (Kudos to that agent, by the way.) The agent found out that, indeed, the manufacturer warranty was expired on the A/C unit. Then they approved parts AND labor. Apparently, that was not good enough for Koalafied, because Koalafied said I still had to pay the same $1,150, for reasons that are still unclear to me. How can a non-covered fix cost me $1,150 out of pocket and the very same fix, when covered, still cost me $1,150 out of pocket. Something is very wrong here. This looks deceptive. I finally paid $1,100 ($50.00 discount given by Koalafied. Oh Joy!) for the fix only because if I had to start over with another company, the communication merry-go-round would start all over again and not go through AHS. AHS told me that the $1,150 goes directly to Koalafied. It's not a copay or an extra fee from them. Koalafied tried to claim that the fee went to AHS. Upon payment, the fee went directly to Koalafied. I'm VERY disappointed and frustrated. I'm on a fixed income and I don't have extra money to hand over every time something breaks. That is why I pay AHS premiums each month. I asked for an itemized list of what was done to justify paying all that money and was told that I wouldn't get that. I believe Koalafied did a good job with the actual replacement. The air works now and I'll see what happens when temps go back up, but I am VERY unhappy with the response and overall service from Koalafied and AHS. Thank you. read more

This was the best customer service support I have had from a professional contractor ever. My AC was acting up so I text Koalafied Sunday night around 10:30 pm. I received a call from their office manager Beth at 7 Monday morning. She told me they had a technician in the area and would like to stop by around 10. Fred was here at 10, troubleshooting the unit and completed his assessment in 20 minutes. He told me he had to order parts and had my AC up and running within 24 hours. I received no less than 10 updates between emails, text n phone calls. The AC I had them install from their recommendation for the features and the 10 year warranty. I had a pretty bad experience with these guys. I rent a house, and back in early April when we had a warm spell, my air conditioner wasn't turning on to blow cold air; rather, it simply blew warm air. My landlord contacted his home warranty company who then contracted Koalafied to come out and service the unit. Chad with Koalified came out and he had another Koalafied guy with him. Ironically, I remember thinking, "Great, two service guys, I'm in business now." Now, between the initial call to get a technician out and the day he arrived, the weather had cooled off considerably, and so I wasn't running the unit anymore. Thank you Illinois spring weather. However, Chad was nice throughout the visit, I will give him that, but when he got to my house, he asked if I could turn the unit on and said he may not even need to come inside. I found that a little strange, but within 15 minutes he said he was done. He said the capacitor (which was the OEM capacitor on a 24-year old unit) needed replacing, which he did right there on the spot. There's no doubt that the capacitor did need replacing, but I asked him how the freon levels seemed, as my unit is old and every 3-4 years seems to need freon addition. He said he felt the line and it "felt cold", but he didn't hook up the gauges. In hindsight, I should have INSISTED that he hook up the gauges, as I'm sure he would've identified other problems with my unit then. So this is where things went south later. Moreover, it was cool outside, so what kind of reputable technician relies on his sense of feel when it's already cool outside. For comparison, if I checked my heater right now (during warm months), would I really get a sense of whether the heater was operating sufficiently to warm the house when it's already warm outside without hooking up gauges and doing a more thorough evaluation? Unlikely. So Chad never actually checked the freon, never really checked for leaks, and never came inside to check the inside portion of the unit on this service call. And again, he was there around 15 minutes. Chad left and the weather stayed cool for an extended period of time and I never really needed to run the A/C after the "repair". About 40 days later, once the weather turned sustainably warm, it was obvious the A/C still wasn't working properly and wasn't able to keep up with cooling the house even by 10 am on most days. Once my landlord contacted the warranty company, another service call was required, and because it was past the 30-day warranty period from Koalafied, this was an additional expense. This time though, we specifically asked for another A/C shop besides Koalafied, since they clearly didn't do the job right the first time. Eagle was called and this guy did a VERY thorough job of checking everything out. As it turns out, he found a leak on the valve on the outside unit and a leak at the coil on the inner unit in my basement. Additionally, the freon level was determined to be essentially empty. But hey, at least the capacitor was working (big eye roll) Chad with Koalafied was clearly interested in making his visit be as short as possible, while Eagle did the proper system analysis. So the repair (or unit replacement) is still in progress and, thanks to Koalafied's poor and sloppy service in early April, I've had no real functioning A/C thus far this summer. And my landlord also got hosed because it took over 30 days for the weather to warm up before these other underlying and critical issues were really identified, so that's more out-of-pocket expense for him. Thus, I echo what the second reviewer commented on regarding the warranty part and working with Koalafied, but even if you're not going through a home warranty company, why risk getting poor service like I received? Go elsewhere, and possibly check out Eagle instead. read more

Our furnace recently stopped working. As we have a home warranty company, they chose to send out Koalified Heating to do our repair work. The owner came out immediately and assessed the problem. He also told me that the system was very old (40 years) and that it was time for a new unit soon. He was very thorough in his explanation as to why the unit would need to be replaced. After he left, the house would not reach an appropriate temperature. I texted the company on Friday night and he was back on Saturday morning. By Monday we had an entirely new HVAC system. It was installed for a very reasonable price and the difference in the temperature and distribution of heat around the house is great. There are no more cold spots in the house like there were before. I would highly recommend Koalified Heating for any HVAC work. The owner was honest, professional, and courteous. He patiently and thoroughly explained what was going wrong with our system and what would be required to fix it. I also appreciated his willingness to explain the limitations of home warranties. It is a rare thing today to find a company that is as honest, prompt, professional and courteous as Koalified was with us. read more
