Kobabo NYC was a 10/10 experience. We came here for a birthday party, and our main server, Laura, went above and beyond to make sure the table's needs were met. She gave amazing recommendations on what to order for both food and drinks and had such a pleasant personality, which really made the night special. Our table ordered a bunch of appetizers to share, and the portions were perfect. We started with the cucumbers, which were super refreshing and flavorful. Definitely get the crispy rice -- every version was great, but the crab and salmon tartare were the table's favorites. For crudo, we got both the yellowtail and the salmon, and the yellowtail was so good we had to order a second round. The skewers were also a hit. Each one comes with its own sauce depending on the meat or veggie, and they come three pieces per skewer, with a minimum order of three. We tried the beef, chicken, and eggplant, all cooked perfectly. We ordered all three desserts. Our favorite was the crêpe cake. Definitely order this. The space itself is beautiful, and at 10 PM it transforms into a lounge with hookah, a dance floor, and a live DJ. Came here on a dinner date on a weekday evening. This Japanese-Brazilian fusion restaurant recently opened and upon stepping in, you are taken back by the interior design, especially the back room with their massive artwork and imitation plants where you feel like you've been transported to the jungle. The food comes at a premium and the presentation is very flashy. Service here is pretty good for a restaurant that wants to be on the fine dining side. Amazon ($34) - This was an A5 Wagyu Beef sushi roll with asparagus, avocado, cucumber, and truffle salt. The A5 wagyu was obviously the highlight of the dish. This is brought out smoked and there's a flashy presentation with it upon being served. Samba Toro ($32) - Another sushi roll, but with toro, picked radish, shiso leaf, wasabi salsa, and crispy leeks. This also tasted pretty good. When ordering the Yakitori, there is a minimum order of three skewers, so I got two Beef ($9) and one Pork ($6). The presentation is pretty cool for this as well as it's served on an active mini grill. Chicken Fried Jasmine Rice ($24) - I found this to be a bit on the salty side. Less salt for this would have made this dish taste better. read more

Service was good; They ask all guests to write a google review and mention their server at the end of the meal, which probably is why there are so many google reviews. I wouldn't go as far to say they're fake though. The food here is good. I had the churrasco which is fun because they flambé it. However it is $44 for the plate of steak + 4 yuca fries... All other items are the menu are quite pricey. Sushi and fried rice are priced at $28 average, which is why I avoided those (as well as reading some reviews that the fried rice and sushi rolls weren't the strong points). The interior is nice and feels upscale, (there's even a dress code), which may be why the high prices. When I visited, there was a ton of staff standing around despite only 3 parties present. Hopefully they balance their staffing better. It's a good spot for cocktails and some small bites. read more

Let's start with dessert.....because wow! I had the Strawberry Mille Crepe at KOBANO and it was absolutely amazing, light, creamy, and just the right touch of sweetness. Honestly, it was so good I had to start this review there! Now back to the beginning... We started with the Spicy Edamame and my husband had the Wagyu Gyoza. Both appetizers were delicious, perfectly seasoned, flavorful, and left us excited for the next course. For my main, I ordered the Branzino, which unfortunately didn't quite hit the mark for me. It wasn't bad, just not memorable. But everything else more than made up for it. The service was excellent, attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience feel special from start to finish. The staff was on point, and the vibe in the restaurant was just right. All in all, dessert stole the show, but we enjoyed the entire evening. We'll definitely be back to try more dishes, and yes, I'm absolutely getting that mille crepe again! read more

Wow last minute dinner with my cousins while back home & we cannot wait to come back. Already made reservations for June because we loved it so much. Very chic ambiance. Gives a Miami flare in the heart of lower manhattan. The music was a bit loud but we later understand it was part of the amazing DJ and the Saturday night vibe. Super cute and trendy restaurant on Bowery! It gives tropical/Tulum vibes and is perfect for a weekend outing. Claudia was great and so friendly during our service. The toro roll is amazing! This review is for the Sunday reggaeton brunch event. Leaving impression: had fun and would definitely go again. It was very loud, but there are 2 rooms. So, take your pic of party loud or able to speak with your friends loud. Music was a good mix of 'classic' reggaeton and current. Some bachata/merengue got thrown in the mix too. Went on yelp while there to try to see pics of the desserts before picking one and saw there was only 2 reviews on here with one of them being harshly negative, but we had an amazing time so wanted to come on and say that!! THE GOOGLE REVIEWS ON THIS RESTAURANT ARE ALL FAKE The experience was so poor that I was motivated enough to create a yelp page for this restaurant. If ZERO stars was an option that's what I would give this place. To start, Kobano markets itself as a high-end Japanese/Brazilian fusion online. This is far from high-end. Gives budget benihana vibes sans hibachi. They tell you, you only have 90 minutes to dine and the menus are all done on a QR code. The waiters/waitresses run around with card machines to take your order and payment. Not high end. Wine selection was brutally awful. Next, onto the food. Quality was abismal. I'm generally not a harsh critic of newer restaurants but myself and friends who attended dinner could not help ourselves. All the food tasted like it came out of frozen Trader Joe's packages. As one of my friends said, "the zyn I have in my mouth tastes better than any of the food they brought to our table". Wagyu gyoza was OK. And that's about it. Everything supposed to come hot was cold. The chicken and shrimp yakitori was disgusting. Shrimp was rubbery and fully veined and shelled. Chicken was cold and hard. The best was the "Truffle fried rice". Imagine a bag of microwaveable Uncle Ben's brown rice and frozen veggies. Not a hint of truffle and rice was not cooked as fried rice generally is. Sad to say it but this place is just like the restaurant that was at this location prior to overpriced, bad food, and will last MAYBE 5 months. New spot on Bowery that you can't miss! Highly recommend for mid to large size party's if you're looking for a good time with great music, ambiance, service, - the whole nine yards.
