We came here for sushi. We tried the alligator, red lion and Dublin rolls. The rolls were a good size and the ingredients were very fresh. The tuna in the rolls was very fresh and buttery. They have accessible parking right at the entrance and a ramp, the bathroom is also very spacious and accessible. In my opinion Benihana is better. Our servers were trying to rush our party out the door which I think was very rude. The chefs are not as interactive as they are at other Hibachi restaurants similar to this one. The ambiance was very bland and boring. Restaurant itself it quite spacious and the bar area is large with ample TVs to catch the day's game while taking down some rolls. You're going to do a lot worse at every other sushi place in Livermore, drive the extra seven minutes off first street downtown and get some fish that's actually edible. read more

I have been here for their teppanyaki and for their sushi happy hour, both of which I enjoyed. I did the teppanyaki during lunch so it was much cheaper. There was only me and my girlfriend there so we got a private show. They took care to cook my vegetarian portion first before cooking her shrimp. For the sushi, presentation is good but the rice is not perfect. I still enjoy all the sushi options they have and would definitely be back. It's been about a year since we've been here, this time dining on the Teppanyaki side of the restaurant. I made reservations ahead of time, which is stated on their website for Teppanyaki. We were a group of 11 so we weee all sat at a table together, and had two chefs cooking. It's always fun watching the chefs prepare the Teppanyaki Meal. Lots of choices on the Hibachi Menu which each meal includes Soup, Salad, Hibachi Shrimp or Mushroom (appetizer) & Veggies. Our chefs were cool and made it a good time as we were celebrating a birthday. The servers are accommodating and friendly, they really took care of our group. They even sang happy birthday to our celebrant with a dessert and Happy Birthday crown to wear. Food was excellently prepared, everyone enjoyed what they ordered. I always saw this place driving along the main road advertising happy hours and lunch specials, so a few coworkers and I decided to give it a go! The seating area is a weird structure/vibe to me, but that could be a personal preference. It's a bunch of high backed leather booths in red and black pushed together. The lunch specials are indeed a very good deal!! If you're looking for cheap decent sushi for lunch, go no further. My bestie and I went to Kobe for lunch around 12:30pm. The restaurant is huge, and it's because they have a teppanyaki side and a sushi side. We sat in the sushi side with big red throne-like chairs. It was an interesting vibe to say the least. Overall service was fine. Staff was friendly, and the food came out in a timely manner. The funny thing is we've Doordashed from Kobe, which I remember being good, but I wasn't as impressed with the food during my dine-in experience. I ordered agedashi tofu, hotate nigiri, saba nigiri, and an apollo roll. I've had agedashi tofu 100x's better than Kobe. Their tofu was deep fried in this really thick batter that had a tacky tapioca powder texture and didn't hold up well. I was not a fan of it, which is unfortunate because agedashi tofu is one of my favorite izakaya to get at Japanese restaurants. The nigiri were OK. I thought that the hotate tasted a little fishier than usual. The saba was perfect. The apollo roll was tasty, but there was something off with the rice. I felt that either it was old or wasn't cooked all the way through because I would get hard bites of rice. read more

For being one of the only teppanyaki restaurants in the area, I was expecting better quality food and service. Upon entering the empty restaurant on a Saturday afternoon, I knew this place wasn't going to perform well. Our group of 9 came for a birthday lunch. Teppanyaki doesn't sit well with me so I ordered a sushi roll off of the menu along with gyoza for appetizers. We all enjoyed the typical teppanyaki show. Starting off with soup and veggies and ending off on the main meal (that's usually when most of the party gets full and can't finish their meal). As we were all chatting amongst ourselves, I saw a woman server from a distance glaring at us and constantly looking at her watch. Mind you, there was so much time until closing. She swung by often to clear plates, even when food was still on there. I felt rushed and unwanted. My sushi roll was decent. It was the Pleasanton roll but customized. It lacked shrimp and could have used a few more veggies inside. The gyoza was your average deep fried pot sticker. I tried hubby's teppanyaki which consisted of steak and lobster. The vegetables were delicious; sautéed in a herb butter. The fried rice was also good but I was quite concerned with the amount of butter that was thrown in. The meats, on the other hand, were also smothered in butter but seemed to lack a lot of flavor. It's as if it needed a side sauce. The last two Doordash orders I've place with Kobe Japan (which were days apart) showed up at my door with no steamed rice which is supposed to be included with the order. WHen I complain to Doordash online, it wants me to include a picture. How do I take a picture of something I didn't recieve? I'm not a meat eater, so I was there for the veggies and a cucumber-avocado roll, but my boyfriend said he can vouch for the validity of their hibachi dishes. He said all of the meat was on point and cooked the way that he liked it. He ordered chicken and some cut of thin steak thing I don't really understand because I never ate steak in the first place. This is my second time visiting Kobe Japan for hibachi. I do have to say each time i visited I've had to wait for at least an hour, even with reservations. However, the staff was apologetic and continuously checking in giving me updates. In my opinion that's great customer service. My go to is the filet mignon with garlic butter rice and veggies. Ok. Sooooo. lol. I've been to a Kobe before. The last location was in Elk Grove I believe. Either there or Sac. Thing is.. this location by faaaar trumps the other. The lights were nice and shiny, the entrance to the door way was cleverly decorated with the Japanese drums. I don't know the name of them so please forgive me on that. But the staff was pretty decent and accommodating. We were seated fairly quickly which is a plus. Like most hibachi places they served us the drinks, soups, and salads while we were deciding on what to order. By the way. Make sure to ask for a sushi menu if you plan on doing the hibachi dining and want to have some sushi with it. Theres two sides Hibachi on the left restaurant side and sushi on the right. The menu ls are pretty extensive which in this case isn't a bad thing because everything looks and sounds absolutely delicious. My family and I ordered the Bay Bridge Rolls. Which was pretty good but I wanted it fried and I guess the waiter didn't catch that part but hey. It's an experience so whatever. I ordered the Hibachi bacon fried rice double rice order, spicy Scallops and spicy shrimp. My daughter got the kids shrimp and hibachi bacon fried rice, son got Steak & chicken with hibachi bacon fried rice, and wife got the Kobe steak and chicken with the bacon fried rice. I'll be totally honest. All the food was good. Even the mixed veggies. Which I only ever eat the carrots and broccoli from it. lol. But steak was mad juicy and flavorful, chicken was nice and moist not dry, shrimp and scallops still have my mouth watering thinking about em. Sheeesh!!! lol. All and all I give them a solid 3.5 out of 5 only reason I can't drop a full 5star is the price was crazy. What they charge in gratuity is ridiculous. And the whole sushi order thing. read more

Yummy yummy ! My family and I came here specifically for sushi and it was our first time here :) Walking in, we were greeted by a kind individual and the rest of our experience here was enjoyable. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that it took around 15-20 minutes for our orders to get to us, despite us being one of the few customers seated at the time. Other than that, we enjoyed our experience at this restaurant and would def come back for their quality rolls! We ordered the Tokyo, Tracy, Broadway, and Alligator rolls, as well as takoyaki and a lychee pina colada. All of the rolls were really yummy and super fresh, but the one that stood out the most to me was the alligator roll ! It became one of my favorite rolls ever hehe and I'm so glad we ended our meal with it :') What caught my eye was that it had 4 types of fish: yellowtail, tuna, salmon, seared albacore. It was soso yummy and all of the fish were fresh and buttery,, would def recommend! I couldn't stop thinking about it after we left LOL The takoyaki was pretty good,, although it was a bit more doughy and didn't have bonito flakes :o I tried a bit of the lychee pina colada that my parents ordered, and it just tasted like straight Malibu to me,, not enough lychee flavor; however, my parents thought it was pretty good Kobe Japan is both a teppanyaki and sushi spot, and I liked how both sides were separate. We came here for dinner in December 2021. We love Japanese teppanyaki food. We had dined here before too. The food is pricey, but still above average. Service isn't. Now I can't tell if they're short staffed, slow, or overwhelmed, but we didn't get good service from our waitress. On top of her being slow, she was flat out rude to us, multiple times. It takes a lot for us to stake that claim in official writing. This is my 630th review, you can count on one hand how many times I've complained about rude service. Our Cook on the other hand was a nice guy, outgoing, friendly, & good at his job. He stopped what he was doing a few times to get us things we needed. Listen, if I'm giving you $225 for 4 people to eat, with no liquor, least you can do is be kind to us. I would probably come here again as it's the closet teppanyaki spot to Tracy, but I'll be skeptical walking in. Something simple my father taught me years ago.
