Came here strictly to try the BBQ pork and roast duck rice plate, and it definitely delivered. The char siu was excellent. It had that proper, authentic Hong Kong crunch on the red outer layer which a lot of other places lack. They did slice it a little on the thick side, but that's an easy fix; I'll just ask them to cut it thinner next time. The roast duck was just as good. Super juicy, moist, and packed with flavor. Overall, it's a very addictive dish. The place is clean and the staff are friendly. The 4-star rating is mainly for the food quality. It has always tasty at this restaurant. Portion sizes are descent. Service is always a bit slow these days. They seem to either be under staffed or something else is going on. For example, they are running a Daily Special promotion and one would expect when you order the daily special item that it would be server rather promptly (within 5 to 10 minutes). But went I ate there during lunch time during a weekday I had to wait 15 minutes or more before the item was brought to my table. Not sure what is going on. The restaurant is also charging customer's 18% service charge automatically. Not sure if this is legal to do in the state of California but they are doing it. Staff can never handle high volume of customers and don't care to ensure they acknowledge you when you've been waiting to be seated or let you know they'll be with you soon or whatever the case may be. My first time here after hearing about years ago but this location isn't close to my home so I finally made it, and I was glad. The dim sum lunch was authentic HK Cantonese teahouse style and it was a terrific place to meet old friends for loud laughs and conversations. The staff was on point periodically swinging by to subtly assisting us with needs and emptied plates. I understand that this particular restaurant has been open for several years now but I did not realize their chain of restaurants have been for almost 20 years! That's quite a feat in my view. Because of my excitement with catching up with my friends, I did not take much pictures of the food or setting but to affirm, the food was delicious and the tea was smooth, fresh; the eatery was nicely decorated and spacious too. Don't know if my non-Chinese friends understand this, BUT YOU CAN ask for various, different kinds of teas and their combination. Yes, multiple pots too. The dim sum is obviously the center piece but the tea "yum chai" is equally the star in my opinion to complement the foods. I recommend a lighter tea for lite drinkers like Chrysanthemum tea ie flower steeped, no caffeine and floral. However, if you want a bold tea try "Bo lay" black tea for lightly sipping when eating lots and lots of heavy food. Pro-tip: For tea adventurers, try a fusion teapot (e.g. Chrysanthemum + Bo lay), combo tea flavors is different and neat when i crave for a different drink. I'll be back for sure. We came here for lunch and it was after 12:30 pm so the restaurant was not crowded . Thai is a Koi Palace express with simple menu for smaller group or for a personal lunch . Upstairs is the Koi Palace which has lunch dim sum and fancy dinner banquet. We ordered the won ton with rice noodle 雲吞河粉( Ho fun) in soup , half a steamed Hainanese chicken . 海南雞 The won ton was served in 5-8 minutes but it took 20 minutes to serve the chicken . The chicken was fresher made and it tasted delicious. They do charge 18 % service charge automatically. Good ambience, good customers service and food quality are guaranteed. This is just down the street from me but I've only ordered from here twice in probably 5 years. I came here for take out. When we arrived, there was only one table occupied. Didn't seem busy at all. Weren't greeted when we entered even though someone was at the counter. She was just keeping busy. We ordered at the kiosk and got our number. I sat down at a table since it was pretty empty, and guess what? The lady at the counter spoke to me. Actually she was telling me I could not sit at the table and to go sit in one of the chairs against the wall. She could have asked but instead she took the "tell" approach. But really - I just pulled a chair from one of many empty tables and was spoken to not very nicely. I decided to go outside and wait. 20 minutes pass and I get my food and took it home. I ordered the rice rolls small bites dish and a BBQ pork/roasted duck over rice dinner. The BBQ pork was really dry. The sauce was very light on top and did not soak in the meat. The duck was excellent. The rice rolls were soft and covered in sesame seeds, and they gave a good variety of sauces. The wait staff just gets flustered easily if it gets busy with customers and a lot of take out orders. Koi Palace Express also has limited seating so it's better to go early. I find the food to be quite good. Again this is cafe type items. Stand outs to me are the baked pork chop rice, baked black pepper steak over rice, and the Singapore rice noodles. The sauces in the baked dishes are authentic and well seasoned. Not worth it. Horrible service and quality of food has gone down. I came in and went to front to get a number. The person at the front served a person before me. I saw they had same number of people and they were seated before me. I then had to wait 15 minutes for someone to get my order. Another table got seated after me. They got to place their order and got their food before my group. The waiter checked on all the other tables multiple times but not mine. We sat for 30 minutes before we got food. This is insane for a dim sum place. They usually want you to eat fast so they can get next group in. The fried dishes took over an hour. But the same dish got served to other tables 20 minutes before our table. We had to remind our server of our dishes. The servers never removed our empty dish plates and steaming containers. We started to see how high we could stack them as a joke. But servers never removed them. Last dish was fried taro puff. We again had to remind the waiter that we were waiting for our finial dish. When it came, My wife asked him to cut the puffs in half. This is something they will typically do. The server said no. When I said "excuse me" he said they don't cut it and it's better to eat it like it is. I then asked for the manager. The manager agreed the server should have not said. And that cutting the fried taro puff is something they typically do. I guess the server was just too lazy to do it. I then showed the manager that we had been using napkins from my child's diaper bag since the server never checked in on our table. No refill for tea or water. Overall, this was the worst service I had in years. I will be eating elsewhere. You should also. There are many other restaurants in the area. This sector be my go to place for Cantonese bbq in Dublin. After a long absence, I can understand it. There's a QR scan code on the table to browse and order. I had the same order error as in the past by ordering the bbq combo plate, a trio of bbq cuts over rice. I naturally assumed that roast duck would be part of the trio but in reality it includes soy chicken, roast pork (pork belly), and char Siu. The star of the trio was the roast pork but sadly the pieces were small. The char Siu was the weak player as it was dry and bland. The soy chicken was alright.
