I could buy some frozen fried rice from costco and coat it with soy sauce and I wouldn't have known the difference. It bums be out too because at one point I felt the fried rice was one of my favorites, now it is just dry and bland. The teriyaki chicken was good, no complaints there, but I would like to be able to have a bite with just fried rice and not feel like it still needs something. Service was good. Maybe a little pushy on the water refills. It's like they saw us taking pictures and were giving us reviewer treatment. I'm not saying that is the case, but I felt it was forced and awkward regardless. Regarding the insides, there is a small and quiet sushi side, and the loud hibachi inside. It has the kitschy but endearing japanese asian aesthetic and is usually clean and well kept. Salad was sweet and good. Soup was served to us warm, not hot. Overall, the experience at Kobe Steakhouse was pleasant, but a bit hit or miss. I ordered the chicken and shrimp fried rice entrée. The salad was yummy, but I didn't care for the soup--it was lukewarm rather than hot. The fried rice and teriyaki chicken were a little dry, but the shrimp was really good. Our cook was more focused on just cooking rather than performing, which was a little disappointing since the hibachi show is part of the fun experience. The service was very attentive--my water was never empty, which I loved as someone who drinks a lot of water at restaurants. However, it was almost too attentive, as the server would refill it before it even got halfway down and would come over very abruptly. I still had a good time, but I'm not sure I'd rush back. The ambiance is like stepping into a Japanese bath house. There is a Sushi bar and seating area to the left when you come in and then the Japanese steak house is to the right. The service is excellent as soon as we were seated our drink order was taken and we started getting our soup and salad. The soup reminded me of a chicken noodle soup with Lo Mein noodles added, and it was just okay to me. The salad was amazing as I really loved their dressing, it was a really good ranch. Although they drench the salad in it, the salad was really tasty. I got the steak and shrimp with fried rice and I do not regret it, they gave me a ton of shrimp on top of the shrimp appetizer you get, and the veggies in the teriyaki sauce were fantastic as well!! We came here on a Tuesday at 4pm right when they opened. We came to celebrate a birthday. We thought this was the same Kobe that we see used to go to from Florida. Kobe ichiban. It is not. However, it did not disappoint. The portions are massive. The prices are not cheap but truly for the amount of food they give you it is well worth the price. Very attentive service. Clean restaurant and very hospitable staff. My husband daughter and I were the only guests at the restaurant at that time but we were able to enjoy the hibachi cooking show. Our reservation was for 5:30pm on a Saturday, during the busiest time when families eat out. We arrived at 5:10pm and were seated at 5:25pm. I ordered the filet and shrimp. It comes with salad, soup, white or fried rice, and fresh sautéed vegetables, with buttered noodles, for under $30. You get a heaping amount of food that could turn into five meals. I also ordered the Kobe Tea. The drink was delicious. It's made with tequila, gin, and Japanese plum wine. You only need one. Kobe for Sushi has some positives - Foremost the Sushi restaurant is separate from the Hibachi grill with 5 booths and seating at the Sushi Bar, so you can have a nice relaxing evening without the noise and show at the Teppan table. There's a wine selection and drinks there are OK, they tasted to be right on a shot, but $12-15 call brand cost is higher than average for Kansas City. The Rolls were OK. Our waitress pushed their specialty versions of Rainbow, Salmon, California & Dynamite rolls at $2-$3 more each. We tried them - they were mid and didn't justify the upcharge. While I didn't have Sashimi this time, I remember from previous visits the cuts were small and didn't warrant the cost s they were roughly same size as what's on top the rolls. I'm not sure how often they get deliveries from the coast. That was a Friday night visit and texture / moisture was low on freshness scale. READ THIS BEFORE DINING AT KOBE!! One star for very average hibachi/teppanyaki food. Definitely not worth the $300 we paid for the five people in our party. Further, the overall experience and service was absolutely horrible. Right off the bat, the elderly gentleman, (upper 70s at least), who was our seating host, was rude because our whole party didn't arrive together. Then, when we were seated & ordering, and were given the option of white or fried rice, one of us asked for white rice, and our waitress said "what? My fried rice isn't good enough for you?!" Yikes! Then we were absolutely rushed through our meal; the salads and soup were taken before we finished them and drinks weren't refilled unless we asked. After our main meal was cooked and served, the gruff waitress reappeared before we even took a bite and gave us our checks and asked how many to-go boxes we needed. We were given about 15 minutes to pay our checks and eat, *and for them to secure their tips*, before the waitress and elderly host came back and hovered at our table, staring at us and whispering; making us very uncomfortable. Then the elderly host delivered a glass of wine to a member of our party (which she had asked for- and paid for) and told us all we needed to "move to the bar", so they could seat someone else. We hadn't been at the table more than 40 mins. total from the time we were seated. We weren't lingering- in fact, we're weren't even given a chance to enjoy our meal. We were in shock. We asked if he wanted to refund the brand new glass of wine and he said "no, we just need the table, so go drink it at the bar by the door." We had three minors in our party & weren't comfortable taking them to the bar. He continued to escalate and get louder about how they needed the table and we needed to move. The absolute brazenness of his rude behavior had us stunned. He caused a scene. We tried to be patient and respectful of this elderly host, mostly because of his advanced age, but he was entirely out of line and ruined our evening. It was HORRIFIC service. When we left, there were only about 4 people waiting to be seated-they weren't busy. It was just deplorable behavior from poorly-trained and rude restaurant staff. NEVER AGAIN! Just another overpriced subpar hibachi restaurant with no special characteristics. The Good: Portions for the food were decent, provided basic tricks while cooking, and customer service was ok. Seafood and poultry were never undercooked and the beef was cooked to each recipients requests. The salad appetizer was decent due to the sauce. You will leave fairly full. The Bad: The chicken teriyaki is always too strong, they just drench it in pure teriyaki sauce and burn it too much. They also dont have legit chopstick trainers for rhe kids, however the waitress jury rigged some up which was impressive. They also charge an additional charge for fried rice. The Ugly: Why am I paying $25 or more for an average chef, shitty soup (literally beef broth and spaghetti noodles), and burnt scallops that make me cringe?
