It's always nice to have more options for Asian snacks and supplies. Kobe is quite limited in what they stock, primarily snacks and drinks. Since things are imported from Japan they're a bit on the pricier side. I usually pick up some Japanese bread rolls, shrimp chips, or mochi. They have a very nice seating area downstairs, perfect for hanging out, studying, or board games. WiFi works really well and the tables are spaced out well. Limited outlet seats though. read more

Went to this store on 12/26 with the family to get anime toys for the kids. The owner rudely told my boyfriend and his son to get out of the store while he was about to pay at the cashier. My step son has disability and he definitely discriminated against him. So uncalled for and will report him to BBB. Shame on you. read more

I really dig this place! I love the amount of Asian snacks, drinks, and food products! I had no idea where to get a variety of snacks like Calbee chips, ramen crackers, and so many more! If I get hungry or thirsty while studying, I just go upstairs and look at the snacks. Compared to your traditional supermarket, the prices are higher. However, they do have to pay for the electricity, music playing, and the study space area along with the store. Also, it's very thoughtful how they supply a hot water machine, microwave, some condiments, and a pot to strain noodle soup before disposal. They allow food and drinks from different stores too! Kobe adds a really nice study spot to Davis, cool food items, and a little Daiso section! I wouldn't mind spending a few extra bucks to study at this place. There are some people that play board games downstairs and are just there to hang out and talk, so if you're studying - bring earphones! read more

This mini-mart is so cute! The first floor is kind of a fusion of Daiso and Ho-Ho market. They sell a variety of things, ranging from Asian snacks to basic household appliances. Kobe is such a nice addition to the Davis community! The store has a drinks, snacks, desserts, and some grocery items. They also have some cute little trinkets, stationary and school supplies, and even stuffed animals too! Everything is not overpriced and even though there are not a ton of items, it is a pretty decent selection. The store even has a whole shelf of different types of ramen and instant noodles! The mart also has the FiveStar point system which is great because my boyfriend buys coffee from here almost everyday. The staff is also really nice, but beware there is a $4 minimum to use your card! My favorite part of the Mini Mart is obviously the study/lounge area downstairs. It's huge with lots of tables and outlets! There's also a microwave and coffee station for customers down there. You can buy your study snacks and ramen, heat it up and eat it downstairs while you study! There's always lots of students studying so please use your indoor voice.. Some people are really loud but if people don't know how to be courteous that can't be controlled. Other than that, the lighting isn't the best but it works. I will definitely be back to get my studying on when I'm in the area! read more

I started frequenting this spot because of the study lounge in the basement - nice mood/decor, bathroom, snacks, decent WiFi with no time limit (if ppl aren't playing games and streaming movies), lots of outlets. But.... Recently though, it seems the space is being "rented" out at odd hours to an "English" teacher. At first when I encountered her, she said that her hours were on Wednesday's 3-6pm? but she came on a Tuesday at 3pm suddenly and kindly asked everyone to leave shortly after I've settled in. It's a bit irksome to the rest of your customers who come to enjoy the space to not know these random hours this lady keeps. I'm not sure if I'll keep coming back if this continues...Either make it a coworking/rental space or not, not both. Or at the very least, clearly post the space hours. It's unfair to the rest of your customer base who come here expecting use of the space. Things I wish to see: * Better lighting in the basement lounge. Some spots are very dim making it hard on the eyes, especially for studying. * Unambiguous price tags - often time price tags for items are missing from the shelf. It'd be nice if the labeling was consistent. Maybe just label the item itself? * Specialize in fresh baked goods and/or obentos. Cheap and nutritious. They are the perfect study food for students but no one around here makes them. read more

Witnessed an employee screaming at a teenage girl because her bag accidentally broke and her drink spilled. Instead of calmly handling the situation and cleaning up the mess, he proceeded to throw a tantrum and cause a scene in the middle of the store. This situation was extremely mishandled and inappropriate. Never want to be in an environment with such immature employees again. read more

There are a lot of Asian snacks and drinks available here such as chips, candies, soda, tea, different varieties of instant noddles, etc. They have other things like bathroom/toiletries necessities and stationary. Generally just a lot of cool merchandise so go and take a look! The downstairs area has free wifi, lots of comfortable seating, tables + chairs for studying, and even a station to warm up your food in the microwave or boil water for noodles. I think that this is such a great perk for students and the people who work here are very friendly too! read more

After the cashier finished ringing me up for the matcha powder and after I paid, I pointed out that they mislabelled and undercharged me. The cashier insisted to undo the transaction and claw the money back. Not pleasant at all. -1 star. Also, the basement is eerie. No merchandise on display. Cafeteria style seating layout for at least 30 but no visible souls present. Dim office space at the far end of the room. Anime posters and prints hanging everywhere. Air purifier constantly whirring away. One might assume ghosts form the customer base of this place, given that the basement is larger than the upstairs storefront. read more

Kobe mini mart is an adorable Japanese convenience store stocked full of a wide spectrum of Asian goodies. There's your usual snacks, candy, tea, ramen, and soy sauce. The selection isn't as extensive as Hoho's or Kim's mart down the street, but they've got way more than your basics. In addition, they even stock random toiletries, Manga, and cute school supplies. They have everything from sponges, sushi rollers, and shredders to pencils and apple ear buds. The best part of Kobe's however is hidden under the store. Grab your study group, buy a ton of snacks and drinks at a totally reasonable price, and head downstairs. There is a HUGE lounge full of chairs and tables for all your studying needs. It's comfortable and cozy, and you never have to worry reading those textbooks on an empty stomach. Kobe Mini Mart is such a great addition to the study spaces downtown! read more

I went again the other day. Unfortunately, the store is still lacking in merchandise; what kind of Japanese mini-mart doesn't even have Pocari sweat? While Ho-Ho and Kim's have merchandise stacked to the ceiling, this store has a ton of empty space that *could* be utilized to stock more Asian drinks, snacks, etc., but the space isn't being used to its full potential. The fact that the fridge with imported drinks is half the size of their one with western drinks says it all. THIS. STORE. NEEDS. MORE. ASIAN. STUFF. For now, the only distinguishing factor between this and Ho-Ho/Kim's is the stuff from Daiso. I don't like Daiso that much so I don't care. This place has a lot of good Japanese snacks and its basement area is a nice place to hangout with friends or do work. You will find rice crackers, Japanese gummies, ramen, Japanese sodas, and all sorts of goodies here. It's a bit pricey for some of the stuff, but it's a cool place to hang out. They have tables in the basement, foosball, a microwave to heat up food, and free wifi. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This is definitely a hidden gem in Davis. I never knew it existed before, and I've lived in Davis for almost 3 years. I definitely plan on hanging out here again. This is my new go to study spot! The basement lounge is totally cool with lots of cute stuffed animals, manga, games etc and they even have a microwave and hot water dispenser! They have a ton of snack and drink options which is so convenient when you need to grab a snack or energy drink to study with! If you're looking for heartier meals it's located in the heart of downtown so food is a short walk away and the really nice thing is they don't trip when you bring in outside food (just please clean up after yourself cause the downstairs study area is pretty clean). A much needed study option that's different than a cafe! One thing that is unfortunate is that because the study area is downstairs there's no windows/natural sunlight read more

Great products but worker kicked us out because we brought in a service dog and threatened to call police if we didn't leave very rude when talking to my mom and asked what my service dog was for and was to personal and anyhow am not supposed to say what for if I'm not comfortable in saying. Very pushy and when trying to solve problem changed language so we can't understand so if anyone has a service dog that helps you in whatever it does don't come here you'll be treated very unfairly and just not very friendly. read more

Great place to get anything from natto to cleaning sponges. They also had one of my favorite drinks from Japan - Gokuri (grapefruit juice with lots of pulp)! Maybe one day they will have the capacity to place some produce such as Japanese cucumber, cabbage and radish. I loved going here since the store first opened. I recommended it to friends and family, and it made me feel nostalgic seeing so many of the childhood things I grew up with there. Unfortunately, after receiving my service dog I have had multiple incidents of discrimination that violates federal law and Title III regulations of the ADA. The most recent incident has been the last I wish to take, as the cashier notified me that ANY service dogs were not allowed into the store-contrary to the sticker on the outside of the door-as per the manager's instructions to all of his employees. After explaining to him this was against federal law, the cashier said he'd allow it but he'd have to speak with the manager due to his aforementioned instructions to his employees.
