The "chef's special salad" which is listed as a an optional topping contained imitation crab meat, which was not clearly described on the menu. For someone with a severe shellfish allergy, this is dangerous--imitation crab often contains shellfish or carries a high risk of cross-contamination. What made the situation worse was the manager's response when I called. Instead of taking the concern seriously, they were rude and dismissive. Food allergies are not preferences--they can be life-threatening. I strongly urge anyone with allergies to be extremely cautious here, and I hope management reevaluates both their menu transparency and how they handle legitimate safety concerns. read more

I came here with my family tonight and to keep it brief...Never Again. We obviously came for the Hibachi experience, but it turns out that they don't even use the grills any more. The prices are pretty steep and the food really has no flavor. When we got the bill we found a 25.00 service fee had already been added, and there was still a section for the tip. Usually the server will mention any fees at the beginning of the meal, but they just throw it on you at the end as a last second "F" you. I'm guessing that this place has seen it's best days already. The fact that this place isn't busier than normal is such a shock to me. I know I've already reviewed this place but my mom and I actually stopped going because we were used to another Japanese hibachi. But after it had gone downhill we decided to try Kodo's again and god did we forget how good it is. They have both hibachi and Chinese food and they actually have Chinese combos that are decently priced and you get a good amount of food even for lunch. The hibachi grills aren't used which kind of suck but the food holds up nonetheless. The sashimi is really good and the food is as fresh as it can get. If you are going for hibachi they have not been cooking on their grills in months. You will still enjoy the same hibachi food without the show that comes along with it. The reason for 3 stars is due to the service. There is usually only one server on every time, the food takes a while to come out. The drinks are ok. They don't have to many brown liquors which I prefer. I've never been to China but I've ordered it enough in DC, on the west coast, northeast, and never had mapo tofu fried rice style. Again, the food is typically great. Would I recommend mapo tofu? I ordered a spicy salmon roll through yelp and it asks you to select roll or hand roll, and every time I've had a "hand roll" in the past it mean that it was just a normal sushi roll. Apparently not. It's a burrito. I ordered a miso soup and they didn't provide a spoon. Normally not a problem except this was an order to take to a bar. A restaurant must not assume every to-go order is going home. So now I have no way to eat my soup and no clean way to eat this sushi burrito. Ordered again, by mistake, and it's even worse the second time. Don't go here. My family and I arrived about six o'clock on a sleepy Wednesday evening to Kodo Hibachi. App food delivery folks were waiting in the lobby, and the hostess was absorbed in her computer monitor, so I approached her and asked for three for hibachi. We were seated fairly swiftly in an almost-empty restaurant (one other party was in the restaurant - a couple finishing up their hibachi). It was my eight year old's first time at hibachi. We waited for probably 10 minutes (I'm assuming the staff was waiting for additional potential guests to show up). We three ordered hibachi and it came with a salad - I received two salads, one "comes with" salad and an avocado salad I ordered that I assumed would take the place of the standard salad. Avocado salad was great, and I gave the extra salad to my family to fight over. The dinner was skillfully prepared and was just as we ordered. Everyone got vegetables, fried rice, AND noodles (standard service), and each of us got two shrimp (also standard) as a little appetizer. I had ordered chicken hibachi, kiddo ordered shrimp hibachi, and dad ordered filet mignon hibachi. Everyone was happy with portion, doneness, and taste of meal. Kiddo and I had leftovers. Did Door Dash last night 30 March 2024. Kodo is consistently good and our favorite Sushi/Hibachi/Chinese restaurant among many in the Crofton, Bowie, Gambrels and Odenton area. Hibachi steak was perfectly cooked, flavorful as was Combo Chicken, Steak and Shrimp Hibachi. The portion on the combo meal was so much that my wife and daughter share it. I had the hot sexy girl sushi combo, that's been my go to at Kodo for years. I LOVE sushi. And this spot is definitely being added to my go-to-sushi list! Although quarantined, I wanted to be able to review this place anyway. The soy sauce however is a bit salty, so if you're watching your salt I would be careful. The avocado was fresh in the salad, so colorful and yummy! You don't get fresh avocado from everywhere so I appreciated that. Today was my first time trying yellowtail sushi roll and I wasn't really a fan. I can't decide if it was between the texture or the taste. Overall, definitely a sushi spot worth going to! I can't wait til this quarantine lifts so I can officially dine in. Pretty good sushi spot. The fried calamari was decent. The sauce that came along with it was great. I swear they added cilantro or some other herb to it, so it hit different when dipping the calamari into it. The sushi rolls were definitely a good choice. 5/5 The chow fun had a good flavor, but some of the noodles were hard. The shrimp, beef, and chicken in the chow fun were cooked and easy to chew. 3/5 for this since I had to throw this into a pan to thoroughly cook the noodles. The only real negative is that they did not send the ginger sauce or the yum yum sauce. Isn't the yum yum half the reason for getting Hibachi??? I think so. If the sauces had been there, this would be a five star review. The steak wasn't budget cut tough. There was no place to specify temperature, but it came medium to mid well. The BEST happy hour I have ever had. All appetizers are half priced, all drink are half price. Their sushi is the BEST too!!! Out of control, hot sexy girl, and spicy tuna are our favorites. Me and my boyfriend come here at least 2-3 times a week, it's so good! The staff are always friendly too! My only concern is about the bartender who works Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. So we finally went back for another try. Couldn't have picked a better day... 30% off sushi, and they had a host at the door! It was a good experience this time. We ordered three sushi rolls, and actually came away with some leftovers! The rolls are larger than most other places in the area, and not just fill of extra rice. There are plenty of fillings inside too. The Golden Lobster roll was stuffed with plump tempura lobster from end to end. The East Moon roll had fresh sliced celery that gave it a unique flavor. And the Pink Lady roll had a smooth delicious flavor with a fresh tempura shrimp inside. Our daughter had hibachi fried rice that came with large shrimp and tender chicken, and had a nice smoky flavor. Service was good. The friendly staff was quick to serve our drinks and follow up if we needed anything. The food was brought out promptly. The facility was clean. The seating arrangement was such that we could watch the hibachi tables from our booth, and the kids enjoyed a show. We will definitely be back to try more menu items and specials, they have something offered every day. Hopefully they will be consistently better just like our visit this week! read more

Sub-par across the board. I'm not really sure why folks are making wildly inaccurate comparisons about this place. Not only was it nowhere near as good as others in the area, but both my wife and I got since from the food here. Let's start with the drinks. I had a Samurai, which seemed to be basically another tropical beverage with a catchy name. I don't mind if you use rail liquor (especially for a cocktail that only cost $5.95), but use good rail liquor. I could taste the foul swill over all other notes. Horrible. Soup: pretty good. Not as composed as others, but well-balanced and fresh. Very tasty. Salad: actual salad was good, very fresh. Dressing was odd. Like sesame-ginger meets mayo. Not my favorite, but still nice and flavorful. Sushi: we split one roll to try, and it was decent. I've had fresher, but the presentation was nice (not the best). Fried rice: included in the price, which was nice; no up-charge for it. Still, lacked a lot in flavor. No veggies either. Just rice and egg. Not a lot of cohesion here. Noodles: again, flavorless. Did not need to spend time on the grill for the amount of good it did them. Veggies: fresh, well-cooked, very crunchy, nicely done. Entrée: I had the filet and shrimp, and the wife had scallops and shrimp. The shrimp were bigger than I expected, but tasted ever-so-slightly off. The filet was great, though a tad overcooked. Still tender and delicious, though. But, probably is, they were just dripping was last-second sauce (teriyaki or soy, couldn't tell, maybe a combination). The sauce should not be the star of the show; the meat should speak for itself. Overall: The main reason we went is we wanted to try something new in our area. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the result. I don't know why the "Chinese" restaurant (Empire Gardens) decided to go the hibachi route, but it isn't working. The original place was so much better. Maybe we'll still do traditional takeout from them in the future, but we will not be returning for hibachi. Yes, they are slightly less expensive, and I mean VERY SLIGHTLY. But it is not worth the one or two dollar savings for an experience of that caliber. Stopped in for the first time, actually because of a dish on their Chinese menu. Waitress gave us the sushi/hibachi menu, so I quickly forgot all about the Chinese dish... She helpfully suggested several things and we were beyond happy with our meal.
