Another hot pot business here in the islands, located in Kaneohe right across from the Honda Windward Car Spa. The business before used to be a Mexican restaurant that closed down. The restaurant has been opened since 4 weeks ago and is co owned by two brothers Tomas and Dae Ho Park. There is a small segment of their restaurant in the Dining Now section of the Star Advertiser. When you enter, you are greeted by two waiters, you can sit anywhere. There are six booths with one being raised at the back of restaurant with a few steps. Four wooden benches that can sit 4 people together. Each table has two hot pot stoves. The menu is simple to follow. You order a broth and meat and pick your vegetables from the refrigerators. Meats: Beef, Chuck beef, pork belly, tongue, and chicken $4.75 to 5.75 Broths: Kogi Aina shoyu house, spicy shoyu house, oxtail, chicken $4.95 per broth Rice: ranging from small to large $1.75 to $5.75 Color plates: Yellow $2.75, Orange $3.75, Blue $4.75, and White $5.75 We got shrimp, bok choy, fish cake, scallops, lettuce, udon, and meat balls. No rice but ordered the two orders of beef and pork belly. Also got their shoyu house broth. The sauce stand had a variety of sauces to choose from: ponzu, spicy miso, sesame seed sauce, gochujang, and others. The house broth was very tasty and not too salty. The vegetables were delicious with the sauces. The restaurant was clean and well kept. We got 20% off our final tab so the bill came out to $41.05, $10 off with the 20% coupon in the newspaper. Parking was a struggle since there were five stalls next to the restaurant, all were filled so we had to park next to the car wash on the side of the road. It took us at least five to seven minutes to cross over to the business before and after we left. The cars drive pretty fast on this street so be careful and watch out!!!! I was sad to see one of our favorite restaurants (Maria Bonita) leave Kaneohe but decided to give its replacement a shot. 20% off through the end of the year. No MSG! Got here on Thursday, 12.18.15, with a couple of booths already seated. We were greeted with warm and told to pick any seat we wanted. We sat in a both next to the window. It is warm in there so don't come dressed in Uggs even though it's "winter". Lol. I had the miso broth which was nicely flavored. It was actually not as salty as other hot pot places I've been to which was refreshing. You pick your veggies, meat and sauces from the refrigerator. We also had bibimbop, which is normally only available for lunch. Talk about a party in my mouth!! The homemade teriyaki sauce and gochujang sauces were excellent! I docked one star as it'd be really great if the plates were available throughout the day. Parking kinda sucks, one way in, one way out so you have to reverse out of the lot. This place is a must try in kaneohe! My husband and I got all you can eat with the house shoyu broth as well as the kimchi broth. Both broths were fresh and flavorful, and they had plenty meat and side options. Even with a packed house service was fast and friendly. They have a smaller more comfortable kine atmosphere that's very relaxed and enjoyable. As the cherry on top the shaved ice was the fluffiest and tastiest we've had on island. This place is a must try! It was great food and amazing service. We got the 21.99 buffet (price before 6pm). We got there just in time for that. There was a great selection of sauces, vegetables, and meat for meat eaters. I'm a pescatarian and there was lots veggies, tofu, and seafood to fill up on (all located in the refrigerator and labeled). Well worth the price. It came with fountain drinks as well as a surprise at the end. A shaved ice for the table! With a snow cap! Alyssa (hope the spelling is right) was our waitress and she was amazing! I am usually not a big hot pot fan, but this place is great. It's such a great deal for AYCE (until 6 pm), and the variety of meats and veggies to choose from is impressive for an unassuming building on Kahuhipa street. For meats, they had some surprisingly nice cuts of beef, but also pork and lots of seafood. For the broth, we ordered the spicy and the shoyu. The shoyu was better, in my opinion. The spicy wasn't that spicy, but it also didn't strike a good balance between the Korean red peppers and the sweet. But the sauces made up for that. This is my favorite shabu-shabu place in the entire state of Hawaii! It is a little hidden, you can drive right past it and not even realize you past it if you're not looking for it. However, it is a great find if you do notice it. You pick your broth and order your meat. Then you can make your sauce (if you use sauce.) The sauce bar may seem a little small at first glance, but there is a good number of combinations you can make. The refrigerators are where you get your vegetables and seafood items. Enoki mushrooms are my favorite vegetables for shabu-shabu! Kogi Aina is a casual setting good for groups. At the end of your meal, you get a bowl of shave ice for dessert. A hotpot place hidden in the heart of Kane'ohe - All I can say is that this place is a winner! It's located next to Koa Pancake House and the parking is tight so I'd recommend going when they first open or find street parking. I went here for dinner with some friends who had been there before - Best meal idea! We got seated immediately (tables of all sizes for parties of all sizes) and the menu got explained to us thoroughly by our waitress. She was knowledgable, friendly, and really enhanced our experience by recommendinf broths and side dishes. I ordered two broths (the most popular one - Oxtail and a spicy one - Kimchee), both of which I'd recommend to people. Then I went to their fridge to grab side dishes (vegetables, noodles, meats - all of which are on colored plates that you pay for). They also have a condiments bar for all your flavor needs. Townie to the Koolau's...it's an adventure for me. On my adventure, I found Kogi Aina thanks to Yelp! Kogi is located a few streets before Windward Mall and by some industrial shops. Parking is kind of limited and a little tight. Let the parking gods be with you. My boyfriend and I visited on a Wednesday night and it wasn't very busy. Like the other hot pot places, you can grab the different veggies and sauces. I had the spicy Korean soup and my boyfriend had the shoyu. The soup was pretty good and doesn't come really salty like the other places. It's like shoyu at some places. After eating, we got a rainbow shave ice. I was small kine bummed when there wasn't ice cream hiding under it. But hello, there's Waiola's for that. In terms of service, service was fast and friendly. First time of having the pleasure to dine at Kogi Aina. So good! Clean restaurant. Wasn't overly crowded on a rainy Saturday night. They have bigger booths and tables to accommodate larger parties. They have a nice vegetable selection and the majority of their broths are vegetarian, which I appreciated. The broth we had - The House Shoyu - was really hearty and flavorful. My boyfriend and I got to try some different veggies in our hot pot - onion, eggplant and pumpkin. Super good! The sauces are good; they have daikon and our favorite sauce is the lemon ginger sauce. PLUS they have free shave ice - can't go wrong! Super yummy shave ice - very well done. Finely shaved and flavorful syrup. Even comes with condensed milk! This is the only place that has my favorite fresh ginger scallion sauce. The broths are all tasty. I'm really simple and I just go for the chicken broth. Unlike other hot pot places, this broths is full bodied and not waters down. When they refill it, it is real broth and not water. The wait staff is friendly and will quickly give you more meat. Fabulous. The hot pot has so many choices for broth and is so flavorful. They have great options and a lot of variety of things to add to your proteins. And we can't forget the light and fluffy shaved ice at the end of the meal (complementary). My favorite place for bi bim bap because they are one of the only places who make kalbi bi bim bap. Most places only make bulgogi bi bim bap. Have the waiter mix it up for you at your table. Have them add more of the sauce and some kochujang (red spicy sauce). They make amazing mandoo too! This place is also known for their nabe, but I can get nabe anywhere. The food is so reasonably priced AND it comes with shave ice capped with condensed milk. Seriously!!! Sooo yum! And the shave ice is finely shaved too. Parking is very limited though with only maybe about 5 stalls. They used to be open for lunch, but are now only open for dinner. Kogi Aina is located on Kahukipa near Koa Pancake house in Kaneohe. Very affordable and great for couples as well as for families. We've been coming here since they opened, great service good selection on meat , vegetables and broths. They have a cool "salsa area" for things to add to your broth. You used to be able to BYOB, but now they carry beer. Their Bibimbap is a must try, so good. If you go early, there usually is not a wait, but now they are more popular, but you can still get a table with a short wait. Parking is minimal , but you can park on the street. But the best thing is they give you a huge bowl of shave ice as a free dessert! Definitely worth checking out! read more

Haven't been to eat here in a while and realized a lot has changed. We went on a Monday evening around 7:30pm, 2 of us. They don't close until 9pm so we were surprised that there were only 2 tables finishing up when we walked in. Not busy at all. One server, a young girl. She seemed inexperienced which leads to a lot of my issues. The restaurant needs to train their staff better. I've worked in the service industry in almost every position so I can't help but see flaws and areas for improvement. We ordered hotpot (only All You Can Eat option), and she asked if we wanted rice so I said yes. The soup and meats came, and we got our vegetables and other sides from the buffet. Some of my favorite hotpot items weren't available like enoki mushrooms and arabiki sausage (replaced by smokeys). We put everything in and waited for rice. The vegetables were ready to eat and the waitress kept passing by and cleaning the tables when we were the only table dining. I called for her finally and asked her if we were getting our rice we ordered. She said "Oh I think the kitchen might have run out, I'll check." Wrong response. As a server you say "I'm so sorry, let me check on that right away." If you knew when we walked in that rice was not available, you tell us immediately so we can decide to eat or not. Honestly rice is one of the most important things for hotpot, so if we are paying for all you can eat, without rice...then that is unacceptable. It's the servers responsibility to make sure the table gets what they ordered, not the kitchen. She finally comes out but drops off 1 bowl of rice saying "there was still some left." I think that she's going to go get one more bowl. But doesn't return. We share the 1 bowl for now. Eventually I catch her again and ask if we are getting another rice? She says "Oh I only wrote down that you ordered 1 rice." (At this point I'm trying not to flip out). As a server if someone asks you for another rice nicely, you just go get it, don't argue. ESPECIALLY if it's AYCE, we are paying to get as much food as we want. We finally get 1 more rice. My other half also ordered a beer and it tasted old. The final tab was almost $80. Absolutely not worth it with the food, and bad service. Other hotpot restaurants that are cheaper, give you free dessert. They have discontinued the shave ice. The waitress is just young and was not trained well. She seemed nervous and did not care about providing any good service. I will not be returning. Cheaper to go to Times and get more vegetables and meat to make our own hotpot at home. read more

My MIL loves the bulgogi dol sat, so since the shut downs, this was our 1st time back here. I'm so glad they endured the shutdown. However, I have to say I was a bit disappointed. Service was good (although we miss the owners being there), but I was shocked to see the portions. It was 50%-75% of the sizes prior to Covid. It's obvious that inflation is hitting hard, and I completely understand that something's gotta give. But when the portions are drastically smaller and shabu meats are cut thinner and have less slices than before, it is a huge disappointment. Besides, it doesn't look too good when you can see more plate than ingredients. I will always think it's better to raise the price and keep the same quality and portions, than to skimp on those to keep prices the same. I don't mind paying a bit more because the expectation is higher. Seems like the selection of select your own ingredients have been cut down which I'm glad to see as I know it must cut down waste, so in return cuts costs. Also, this may be just be me, but I would rather have the sauces being served, than serve your own. There is a sign with hand sanitizer to clean hands before you touch the sauces. AND to wear your mask when you are getting your sauces. But people aren't going to and definitely weren't paying attention to that. Especially the people who have frequented this restaurant. They know the routine, but not new signs/rules. It's understandable. Last thing, be aware of the music/videos shown on the TV. They are not always for kids. Colorful, psychedelic images are intriguing for little ones, but just be warned that SOME of the images are not for little ones eyes. Let me be clear. They are not in anyway violating anything. Like it's not x-rated or anything. It's just not necessarily appropriate. It's art-like and mature images. And, I'm not saying that they should put on Disney. Just sayin to be aware that this may be a place where many families go, so if you go with your kiddies, just be aware. read more

Make sure if someone in your party wants AYCE you know that it will apply to everyone in the party. It is not explicitly stated on the menu and I would have to say poorly communicated. I would have been happier if wife and I had felt like eating hotpot also. We got stone pot bibimbap and mandoo, which I actually enjoyed. I was unhappy to see the way things were billed on the check. One of the workers made an effort to explain and smooth things out. The other who actually served us didn't seem to give a rat's. Might have gotten a 3 1/2, otherwise. Awesome food. Went in for the early happy hour (2-5 I think it is) and had unlimited food and a super-cheap and huge HITE to split. Yum. Worth to note- sides are super fresh for the hot pot. Great price and really good food. $49 for two unlimited meals and the beer. Cannot believe we have lived down the road for a year-and-a-half and haven't tried it yet. From the wait staff to the effen delicious broths to the fact that it is in walking distance from my house, it's hands down my favorite find on the Windward side. I literally feel like I'm visiting a friend's house when we eat there and (I swear to you-know-who) EVERY TIME we eat there it's always better than the last time. We always get the shoyu house spicy broth - it's so flavorful with a good amount of kick and a couple meat dishes. (If you are a first timer, the house broth is a good pick to start with.) Then, we raid the fridge and get our usual throw-ins. While that is cooking up, a visit to the sauce station will get your mouth watering like nobody's business. I mean, I literally want them all! Some of my faves are the spicy house and the spicy ponzu. It's funny, I'm not a spicy kind of girl, but these are just have all the right kick. If you are unaware of what happens once you finish your hot pot...then stop reading now. But, if you know, you know. It's crazy that you can be so full from all your dinner and STILL have room for more. That rainbow shave ice mound with the condensed milk is seriously EVERYTHING. Recently, they've started a Monday-Thursday special treat (see my photos). Mondays are my fave because they offer half off the meats.
