    THE Burmese Tea Salad
    Aimee C.

Say this with me, "Burmese Tea Salad, please." You can thank me later for this unexpected party in your mouth. Yan and Mala (owners) who are gems of humans, if you ask me, own this GEM of a food truck. Only (currently) open on Tuesdays in town, so make sure you get to town for lunch on Tuesdays. I know that I do! Tuesdays are split between the Ala Moana area behind First Hawaiian and Kaka'ako. I had found Aloha Burma on IG, but found it difficult to catch up with them because they have limited hours. But, after serendipitously finding Yan and his truck at Bay View Market (every 3rd Wednesday of the month, I think), it was love at first sight. My tummy is thanking me and life on Tuesdays have never been the same. Prices are so affordable you'll have to do a double-take. Service is quick and so so so friendly that you'll feel like Yan is your best buddy. Every time I order I always get the Tea Salad - I am a nuts person so the fact that this salad is draped in nuts is ah-mazing. I have gotten other things like the Beef Masala and the Lemongrass Coconut Tapioca with Lilikoi Sauce and every time Aloha Burma's food hits. It's THAT good. I know BIG things are coming for these lovely humans, so it won't be long until their lines will be down the street every Tuesday. Highly recommend if you've never had Burmese food or if you have cravings for B-Star from SF, Aloha Burma is the spot! Cheers to Yan & Mala!

So happy this food truck is near my Kaka'ako office every other Tuesday! Both times I've encountered it on the same side of the street at Fisher's, on my way to another foodie destination. Both times I was waylaid by their intriguing menu of Burmese dishes and was I happy I did! The first time I had their Salmon Laksa with rice and roasted veggies. I don't even like cauliflower but I polished off everything on that bento, including the substantial piece of salmon and fragrant jasmine rice. They took a break over the holidays and so I was excited to see they were back this week. This time I went for their Beef Masala with Burma Rice and Roasted Veggies - could not believe how much food you get for $15, I ended up eating half for lunch and saving the rest for dinner. The beef was super tender, the rice as fragrant and fresh as the last time, as were the veggies. Cannot wait for their next visit 2 weeks from now - follow them on Instagram for updates!

This food truck is truly a hidden gem! It's a blue truck you can't miss usually parked around Don quijote or in kakaako. Service is wonderful and friendly! You need to follow on Instagram to find out where this food truck will be. The location does vary, but the owner is responsive. You can also preorder on IG. I love all the dishes I've tried so far! Nothing has disappointment. I always get the tea salad, samusa, and a main dish. I loved his fried noodles with chicken, and laksa noodle dish! He's only open on Tuesday from 11-1ish or sold out. I wish he was available on weekends, but if you contact the owner he can make special orders or cater. I always try to make my way to the truck when I get the chance! This is a must try plate lunch truck!

I've been here a couple of times. Ordered in advance via IG DM then picked up. The people who work here are very nice. Food is good. My favorites so far are the beef masala and tea salad.

The most amazing husband and wife duo cheffin' up Burmese cuisine. They combine the perfect pairings of tender proteins, flavorful sauces, delicious veggies and rice. Not only that, they offer plenty of vegetarian options, accommodating everyone. They always welcome with a smile, exuding their passion and love for their expertise with this craft. They constantly innovate their menu, giving you a different food expedition that takes you on a brand new journey every time. When in doubt, Aloha Burma is always a good idea!

The fish was perfectly crispy with fresh slaw and really creamy sauces. The tortillas for the tacos tasted very fresh too, which made them even better. Both entrées came with lemon wedges that added a nice bright touch. The fish and chips were great and the fries were perfectly crisp. I still think about the crème brûlée. The texture and caramelized top were spot on. Portions were generous as well. We were staying at a nearby resort so it was an easy walk for us. The service was good, although we came when there was not much of a line. The truck is located in a lot with several other food trucks so it is easy to find. I cannot speak to parking since we walked. There are a couple of benches in front where you can sit and enjoy your food, and the truck sits under a huge tree which gives some nice shade from the heat. Overall, I would highly recommend stopping by if you are looking for great vegan food.

The good news is it is fast so if you wait a little bit, someone is likely to finish up and leave. The ambience is definitely casual since it is a truck. There is covered picnic-table style seating for this truck and the other trucks nearby. The food is SO good. I read rave reviews on here for the fish tacos so I orderes them and they did not disappoint. The vegan sour cream is so creamy, thr coleslaw is perfectly tangy and crunchy, and the vegan fish is delightful. My husband got the chicken tacos which were hot, in contrast to the fish tacos. They had avocado and a green sauce and we also liked these though the fish were our favorite. The hibiscus lemonade was lovely and refreshing also. The service here is very fast. We basically ordered and then looked around at the other truck menus and by that time our food was ready! I would definitely recommend this place especially for vegetarians and vegans and would love to come back!

We got there really early before the opened and we were second in line. We shared a plate of their scampi with a side of their hot sauce. I learned this from the last time because as you peel the shrimp, dipping it into their hot sauce is the move. Going the other way around was way messier. People say their rice is mushy, but that wasn't the case today. Honestly, if I could, I'd skip the rice and go all mac salad. The mac salad was pretty tasty and perfect to break up all the garlic. While I've been here multiple times, I do find it to be good. Would I wait in a long line for it though, probably not. It's a spot I'd classify as a tourist trap, but at least the food backs it up. I think in comparison to what I get in California, it's a few steps above what we get on the mainland. I think if you are planning on getting here, do it early to avoid the rushes.

Once spots started opening up, we paid the $2 parking fee and joined the lines. Heads up, the long line on the right is usually for pickup, while the shorter line on the left is for ordering. We went with the famous Shrimp Scampi along with a side of mac salad. Shrimp Scampi (4/5): Easily lived up to the hype. The shrimp were juicy and easy to peel, and each bite was loaded with buttery lemon flavor and tons of crispy garlic. The rice soaked up the sauce really well, though there was honestly so much butter and oil leftover afterward that it pooled at the bottom of the plate. Still incredibly flavorful overall. Mac Salad (4/5): Creamy without feeling too heavy and generously portioned. A solid side that balanced out the richness of the shrimp. Bathrooms are located upstairs near the gift shop, and there's also a washing sink near the exit, which definitely comes in handy after peeling shrimp. Overall, a fun and iconic North Shore stop that absolutely feels worth trying at least once. Glad we checked it out to see if it lived up to the hype.

We ordered the Spicy Shrimp and the Shrimp Scampi plates, and neither was impressive. The food came out almost instantly, which proves it is not cooked to order. Because it sits around, the shrimp is incredibly difficult to peel. Anyone who cooks shrimp knows that if you do not peel it right after cooking, the shell sticks to the meat, which was exactly the case here. The Spicy Shrimp had a decent kick, but it lacked actual flavor. The Shrimp Scampi was better but still bland. Honestly, 9 out of 10 shrimp places back home in Southern California make a better plate. To make things worse, the two ladies managing the truck were rude. My wife asked for extra napkins, not realizing some were already in the bag. The worker snapped back, "Are those not enough?" and made her feel super awkward. We also asked for a cup of ice to go with our canned sodas. They flatly refused and told us to ask another truck nearby. Luckily, the other truck owners were much nicer and gave us the ice. Save your time and money. There are much better, friendlier options out there.
