Supper from KOI this evening. What can I say. Called in and was able to get exactly what we wanted. They said 30 minutes and it was hot and ready in, yes you guessed it, 30 minutes. Their pickup system is one of the better ones we've experienced. Seamless. Worst teriyaki chicken I've ever had. Absolutely no flavor. The "sauce" was a watery soup like consistency that was as bland as cheap chicken stock. Any mall teriyaki is a 100 times better than this. What a disappointment. read more

It's nice to see some interesting places coming to the Bradley-Bourbonnais region. This isn't the first Asian joint in the area, but it's probably nicest. The only place that would give it a run for its money would be Kansai, over at the Northfield Square Mall. This place is by far cheaper, though, since you aren't getting the whole cook-it-in-front-of-you experience. Positives: Sushi rolls are actually pretty cheap, in my mind. It's a decent priced lunch no matter what you get. It's got a good sit-down feel. And I've never had a plate that I've been disappointed by. Negatives: Kind of slow service, and not really anything to write home about in customer service. It's usually pretty packed, too, as it's one of the only decent restaurants in the area (if I'm being honest). If you're craving sushi, please go here before getting Kroger sushi. I am going to ruin the 5-star streak. Whomp whomp. I didn't really have any expectations when I heard the first sushi restaurant was opening in the south-south-burbs. I was surprised by how nice this strip-mall restaurant was renovated and decorated. It could rival the aesthetic of any sushi restaurant. We came in for dinner around 5 pm on a Friday night for our anniversary. We were promptly seated and someone came over with some complimentary edamame (I read that it may only be free during first few weeks after opening). Then we waited. And waited. And waited. After sitting there for 15-20 minutes with our menus closed a girl came over and said she could take our order "for her" (not sure who "her" is, our actual waitress?). She took our dinner orders and as she started walking away I asked if we could get some water! We had been sitting there for 20+ minutes and no one had brought us any water and while taking our order, she never even asked if we'd like something to drink. It took another 20 minutes for our sushi to come out...and after delivering that, someone brought out our APPETIZER. I'm a pretty easy-going person and am 100% okay with my food coming out all at once. However, no one had stopped by to let us know it was going to take a little longer than expected or to even check on us. I figured she forgot to put the app order in at that point. We never seen the same person more than once (other than the guy filling water) and I left not having a single idea who our waiter/waitress was. Service was just plain bad. It was almost comical because one guy kept coming over every 10 minutes or so asking "More water sir?" when my husband's glass was ALWAYS more than half full and not once did he ask me, nor did he ever fill mine (and at many points mine was EMPTY!). I ended up just swapping glasses with my husband because I knew his would get filled. The food....was excellent! We ordered crab rangoons that may be the best I've ever had (great crab to cream cheese ratio). We shared spicy salmon rolls (had crunchy tempura inside and were my favorite), angel hair (spicy!), and the American Dream roll. I have eaten at many many different sushi places and this could easily become my favorite. So basically, the food is awesome. Service SUCKED. I really liked the food and plan to come back and hopefully the service will match. I will definitely update my review. read more

THE place to get Asian cuisine in the area. Avoid others and come here. The only downsides I can think of: no hibachi tables and it's pretty popular so there can be a wait. Otherwise: good drink selection, great food, good service. Portions are fair for the prices no matter if you order Chinese, Japanese, or just sushi. I have been here many many times, it's one of my all time favorite places to go. The sushi is some of the best I've ever had. Staff is always nice, atmosphere is always great and prices are fair especially for the really awesome sushi. Bar is pretty full and they have a pretty good mix of Asian and western drinks. If you're not into sushi they've got a great selection of Asian fusion foods that mix Thai, Chinese, and Japanese dishes. Their sushi game is on point though. Everything on the menu is awesome. I recommend the Godzilla roll, it's sounds super nasty but trust me. It's seriously the greatest sushi roll they have. read more

After thirty plus years sampling pan-Asian cuisine, I have become a bit of a sushi snob, and many restaurants fall below my standards. Plus, I am a Chicago road warrior, not a Kankakee local. For us, Bourbonnais has only ever been a waypoint along I-57, or a Bears training camp reference, or a punch line. (Sorry, not sorry.) Often, fast food is the most that weekend commuters can expect on the drive between Champaign and Chicago, but McD's burgers make unacceptable fare for us (vegans). I have visited Koi more than 5 times now and the food and service is always consistent. I usually come for lunch with a friend and I've came once for dinner with my husband. I've tried about 10 different rolls, gyoza appetizer, ginger salad, chicken lo-mein and a couple different drinks and beers from the drink menu. Everything I've ate here was great, they will even add to/take away from a roll if you ask. I feel as if prices are reasonable. The restaurant is very clean, you could bring bigger groups here and has bar seating as well. read more

The sushi is fresh and delicious. The tuna and red snapper have a light and clean taste. The mackerel has a light pickling that is fresh and quite tasty. My favorite entree is the orange chicken. Although, we have yet to have an entree that isn't up to par. There is a large variety of sushi rolls that should meet just about any taste you have. Service is good. A very good place! Bourbonnais is rather a wasteland when it comes to decent food, but while there visiting family I gave it a try. I had the pad thai which was very tasty. My husband had the pad see ew and my dad had the Godzilla roll. The roll was the typical "everything and the kitchen sink" style US sushi roll, but he said he enjoyed it. The decor was very well done. Stylish and with a great ambiance. In a big city I'd probably give this 3 stars. It was good but a little generically Asian fusion. But for Bourbonnais it was really a wonderful surprise. If I end up there again, I'd pick this place before other places for dinner. read more

Best sushi/Asian fusion in town. The menu is pretty Americanized when it comes to their entrees but the sushi and appetizers are even better than a lot of Chicago area sushi joints. We ordered Mongolian beef and the combination fried rice neither was what we expected the Mongolian beef was without flavor there was no sauce on the meat according to most recipes chicken stock, hoisin sauce and oyster sauce is used in preparation I tasted nothing like that this had no flavor. The fried rice was not all fried there were lumps of white rice the ingredients were not chopped as I prefer but large pieces I much prefer them cut into small pieces so the are well mixed with the rice. This was our first experience I may try something else but not as a carry out as I was not disappointed until I got home if I had dined in I could have complained in person. read more

Visited for the first time on 12/17/13 with friends. We all ordered different items and everything we got was fantastic! What I tried from our order: 1)Tom Kha Soup: definitely does have a bit of spice to it, but very fresh tasting and chock full of fresh veggies. 2) Chicken Satay- yummy! The peanut sauce is great!! 3) Sweet Potato Roll: SO SO GOOD! A nice take on sushi with crunchy rice sticks or something inside. The texture was really good. My favorite item of the night. Would definitely order again. 4) Sashimi Deluxe- contained an assortment including white tuna, red tuna, fluke, salmon, etc. First time trying the actual raw fish...most did not have a fishy taste, so I'd say it's good..but not what we were expecting :) 5) Chicken Lo Mein- really great flavor, not too salty and not greasy looking like some lo meins 6) Kang Dang Curry: my second favorite item of the night. I didn't find it spicy at all, but the flavors were outstanding, you could definitely taste the coconut milk. Would definitely order again. Service was good and the food was great.
