I was craving Japanese food and found this place. I didn't realize it was downtown Northville, but I was happy there is a parking lot close by. I got there around 11:35 am when they opened so my friend and were seated right away. This place is much smaller than I thought. There are 6-7 booths and then tables in the middle. Ye bathrooms are in the back. It has a cozy vibe. I got the sushi combo (spicy tuna and spicy California roll) and the Michigan Roll. It came with miso soup and salad. I enjoyed my sushi! We were seated at a booth. Only a few tables full when we arrived. We ordered the Koji crunch roll, grilled scallop, volcano roll, bibimbap with chicken, extra miso, two ginger salads. $66.50 The miso soup is good, lots of tofu and seaweed in it. The ginger dressing is super sweet with lots of pulverized carrot bits. It's ok. My salad had the iceberg lettuce bottom clump in it. The scallop and the Koji crunch roll are both good. The Volcano roll is okay. The bibimbap was so-so, a lot of rice, rehydrated shiitake slices, not much veggies. The egg is just the yolk, so odd, no whites to the egg at all. After reviewing the menu, we went with: - shrimp tempura & veggies - sushi lunch - Udon & Sushi lunch - Spider roll - Eel & Avocado - Spicy Tuna - Green Dragon - Tempura California - Salmon, Tuna, White Tuna & Yellowtail sashimi The rolls were decent, comparable to all other Japanese's restaurants in town. I like my sushi rice on the vinegary side.... and here they use very minimal as you can't taste the vinegar in the sushi rice. One thing they won me over was the sashimi. They cut their fish thick, which is rare. All other places I've been too, they like to cut their fish real thin, but not here. That was a big surprise, that added extra star to the review. Their shrimp tempura was 0 out of 5 stars. It needs major work. It came out all soggy, no crunch aspect to any of the tempura that was served unfortunately. That knocked off a star from the review. The service was good. Waster got filled without asking. Interior is small, reminded me of a Mexican restaurant, not sure if it was former Mexican joint before it became a Japanese joint, that's the vibe I kept getting. The food is very good and reasonably priced but it is a small restaurant and very busy so you may wait for seating on a busy night. I found the service rather disappointing. It used to be a very friendly place where you were greeted as a friend but the staff has changed and is not very professional. We ordered a bottle of wine and it was just put on our table unopened. I don't know why we never before tried Koji as it's close to home but, after last night's dinner we will certainly return on a regular basis. Our server was incredibly attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable. My wife had a vegetarian bento box and I had an assortment of nigiri sushi. We both had miso and salad and shared some edamame, as well. The salad dressing was so good, I was tempted to drink the remainder from the empty bowl. LOL! The rest of the fare was very good, as well. The selection of beers was a bit limited. I wish they offered Sapporo dark ("Premium Black"). My favorite it's the green dragon or black dragon and the volcano roll! Love their seaweed salad, Ika (squid) salad and shrimp sumai dumplings! Restaurant is so cozy and beautiful. Staff is very nice and food is prepared in a normal/reasonable amount of time. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it still is pretty expensive but the restaurant is located in downtown Northville, so makes sense. Just wish it was cheaper so I could go more ha. It's been so long since my last review. I visit this restaurant fairly frequently. The service is great, I like the comfortable seating and it is a pleasant place to eat. I highly recommend the sushi and all its varieties. They do a very good work with their sushi. Fresh, tasty with a very nice presentation. Some of their dishes are very nice, the bento box is fun with a wide variety of treats and tastes. The udon's are quite good. I have experienced a couple times having the beef and chicken a little tough, I wish it was more tender consistently. Their flavors are on point though. I recommend their tempura, crispy and light. I do wish a couple of their apps were hand made, such as their shumai and gyoza. But, they are still good. This is a very pleasant local joint and I will be back! read more

I've had Koji a few times, and while it is definitely good sushi, I just feel like it's not very consistent. I swear I ask for the same rolls every time and every time it's not like I remember. Also, sometimes they give 5 or 8 pieces and even though I specifically remember having 8 pieces the last time, I get 5 the next. Koji in downtown Northville serves mostly Americanized sushi. The sushi isn't top shelf, but it's good for a wide variety of creative sushi rolls and appetizers. The menu is vast, and I counted over 30 different kinds of sushi rolls available. I recommend the fried soft shell crab as an appetizer. For rolls, try the Northville Fire Roll, which comes to the table flambéed in a foil wrap, and the Koji Crunch Roll, which is deep-fried rice topped with spicy crab salad. It was our first time here and it was a decent experience. I let my husband order, and he decided we should get shumai, a Michigan roll, and a spider roll. I also decided to order a side salad for myself. I enjoyed the ginger salad. I really like how every restaurant kind of has their own take on ginger dressing and I like trying them all. The shumai showed up at about the same time as the salad. It was very good. It didn't taste homemade, But I'm not really sure how often it really is at restaurants. I've had it before elsewhere and they clearly advertise it as homemade. Even though the restaurant was very busy, our sushi showed up quickly. The spider roll was good, with their own take of having crab salad in the roll, as well as the crab. I enjoyed the Michigan roll as the fresh salmon on top was delicious. The sashimi was excellent - raw scallop is our favorite and the sweet taste and smooth texture is incredible! What my husband ordered items that were either deep-fried item or crab salad, both of which are quite fatty (and not easy to eat when you have a stomach disorder). Yum!!! Really enjoyed my carry out from Koji. I thought the fish was really fresh, and the avocado in the rolls was perfectly ripe. Their california roll is a bit different than the normal crab, avocado, and cuc, but I didn't mind since I'm not a huge cucumber fan anyways :) The interior was cute and cozy, friendly staff. Easy ordering online as well. I just wish they had more of a variety for their specialty rolls, I am a tuna lover and there weren't many tuna specialties I was interested in, but may just be a personal preference.
