The wait staff is pretty consistent, and we've had several different servers over our visits. They always seem to make a genuine effort to make sure you're taken care of. The decor is really nice and has a bit of an old-school Asian restaurant feel, with some beautiful and distinct Asian-style pieces throughout. The booths and tables are spacious, which I really appreciate. You can actually enjoy the people you're dining with without feeling like you're sitting on top of the next table. One of our regular orders has become the chicken shio ramen, and it is SO good. It's a Japanese noodle soup with a lighter, clear, salt-based broth that still has tons of savory, umami flavor. The molten eggs really take it to the next level, along with the bamboo shoots and scallions. Just so pleasant and comforting! Today we also tried the chicken katsu curry, and this was a WINNER! The rice comes enveloped in a thin omelet, and the curry has that wonderful home-cooked, slow-cooked taste. The chicken katsu itself is tender on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside. The only thing I wanted to add was traditional katsu sauce--and surprisingly, they said they don't have any! I really hope they consider adding it, since it pairs so perfectly with chicken katsu and tonkatsu. I was actually surprised that I was the only one who had asked for it. For anyone unfamiliar with it, katsu sauce is a thick Japanese sauce that's a little sweet, a little tangy, savory, and just delicious. Think of something along the lines of a richer Worcestershire or brown sauce, with some fruity notes. It's one of those sauces that is just MADE for a crispy piece of katsu, and I definitely missed having it! We also ordered a couple of sushi rolls and some gyoza, and everything rounded out the meal beautifully. Another really enjoyable meal at House of Umami. Great flavors, a comfortable atmosphere, and consistently good experiences keep bringing us back. And House of Umami...please get some katsu sauce!

I ordered shrimp lovers sushi and it was some of the best I have ever had. Tightly rolled so you could be using chopsticks and still eat each piece in 2 bites. I told half home and it was just the same the next day. You can taste the quality ingredients. They have fountain Coke products which was worth that extra star to take it to 5 stars. The service was friendly and quick. Since my way home from work takes me near 3 evenings a week, I will be back. I took a menu to keep in my car. The latter because, after many, many attempts, I just don't like that ingredient in sushi rolls. I ordered the Tiger and Sunflower rolls. The Tiger roll starts with shrimp tempura wrapped with cucumber strips, crab stick, and eel, topped with more shrimp, avocado, and eel sauce. I also ordered the Sunflower roll and requested that the salmon be removed. It contained a mosaic of fish: white fish, tuna, yellowtail, escolar, (cooked) shrimp, crab stick, as well as avocado, and tamago. So very pretty. The Sunflower roll was, sadly, very bland. I don't think it was because of the missing salmon. I did like the Tiger roll, though. The mackerel sashimi and tamago also hit the spot, as they always do. Service was lovely. The servers were friendly and responsive. They quickly got take-out orders for the steady stream of customers.

I had a couple drinks, I think they were the x-rated passion and the pear sakitini. They were good, very floral. We started with their soup and salad, which were standard and good. We had so much salad, I did box it up for a couple more meals. Then we tried the crispy chicken buns. They were so good. Since I had so much to eat, we each got one, and it took me two days to finish mine. The chicken was crispy, and I like how the bun was fluffy but also a bit crispy on the outside. We also tried their iconic tuna nachos. The chips were really good. I would have loved a wanton chip instead, as other places do it, but the tuna was so buttery. It was almost as good as the tuna in Hawaii and French Polynesia. I liked to roe and avocado, which was also so creamy. We had a couple sushi rolls. We got the spider roll. It was so crispy and very well make, and the California roll with the kani salad and avocado, no cucumber, which perfect since child hates cucumbers and normally picks them out. It was very fresh and delicious. We also tried their wagyu burger and fries. I personally cannot tell the difference between types of beef, but it was an extremely flavorful, well-cooked burger. We split it in three, and it took a few days to finish my portion. The real star from that meal was the tempura French fries, they were so good and crispy, and very unique. We recently had some very mediocre teriyaki chicken, and I was afraid it was going to taste like that looking at the dish, but it was not. But the real, real reason why I was here was for their famous flying lobster noodles. That was really worth the drive. Their noodles were smokey and flavorful, and a large portion it took several meals and three people to finish it. I liked the addition of shrimp with the lobster and it was not fishy, so those of us who do not eat fish could still enjoy the noodles. That is something I would order every time. Funny, I did not realize both of their children were on Food Network, but I did watch those shows at the time.
