    Pretty interior
    Ceci L.

It's a small restaurant but the interior is pretty with colourful Japanese décor. The staff is Chinese and our server was friendly. They have a nice variety of rolls and the price is reasonable. Being an Aquarius I had to try their Aquarius roll, which was pretty with edible silver. Their fish tasted fresh, I especially liked their chopped scallop roll.

$4.75/per. Shrimp good, but shrimp head slightly too much of a flour taste (vs batter). Still edible.

Return or not return? 100% return. One of my rare 5-star reviews. No brainer based on value and service! Was in the area at lunch time and paid a random visit. Mainland Chinese owned sushi cheap eats, but so what!!! Too many people have stereotypes about having the staff be the same ethnicity as the cuisine. This is Chinese owned and they are not pretending to be something they are not. This is price/value. Nothing more. How many Italians own pizza restaurants in Vancouver? Ever been to Los Angeles where arguably has the best Korean restaurants in North America. How many Koreans you see in the kitchen? This is among the best cheap Japanese eats, and here's why they "win". 1. Cleanest bathroom I've recently seen in a restaurant 2. Server and sushi chef, polite and soft spoken (and camera shy) 3. Good presentation 4. Food is great value. Not about Michelin ratings here, but where can you find price/quality relationship like this? Only criticism is amaebi fried shrimp heads slightly too much flour. Would return and hope they do well.

This place used to be a restaurant called Y Sushi. It was just sometime earlier this year that it changed into Watashi Sushi & Kitchen. I've had my eye on this place for quite some time. Finally got around to trying it. Food was pretty good. Our miso soups were nice and hot. The one complaint would be the prawn tempura. Our daughter said it was a bit too greasy. She ate a few pieces of fruit from my Tofu Teriyaki lunch box to help cut the grease in her system. I like how the lunch boxes come with pieces of Aburi sushi. That's kinda different and a welcome change of pace from always getting just standard stuff like california rolls or regular tuna/salmon nigiri. My brother ordered an Aburi Sushi combo. It came on this long plank and was quite an impressive sight. He said the food was quite good too. I enjoyed my Tofu Teriyaki lunch box but couldn't finish it so I packed it and brought it home. We managed to snag a 1 hr free parking spot one block before the restaurant. More free parking can be found on some of the side streets, off of Edmonds.

Watashi is a convenient sushi restaurant in the Burnaby Edmond area that's great for a sushi stop. We came here for lunch and tried out their bento and a few a la carte items - prawn tempura, house roll and negihamachi roll. The prawn tempura was very fresh and crispy! We must had came at a good time where it was a fresh batch of oil early in the day. The house roll is very generous in size and it was different from other places where it is wrapped with soy paper as well. The bento hasa good variety with your standard items like teriyaki chicken, salad, California to, tempura and the addition of two pieces salmon Aburi sushi as well. Service was friendly. The restaurant wasn't too busy and had a good number of tables available. A nice spot for sushi for a pretty good value.

    One Metre Combo For 2

The one meter combo was freshly prepared and the it was absolutely delicious unfortunately the soft shell crab tasted a bit bland.

Chinese sushi place on Edmonds. Don't let the Japanese themed interior or Japanese music fool you. Parking is available on the side streets. The place definitely looks Japanese. Pretty colourful umbrellas all over the ceiling. Staff are friendly and attentive. The chirashi don here is pretty solid. I'm guessing some 12 pieces/servings of seafood. Bowl is a bit deeper than expected (the rim looks shallow), which they packed full of rice. This is nice, since I leave hungry when having this dish at most other places. Definitely looks great in terms of presentation. The only complaint was that the scoop of chopped scallop tasted really fishy and off. Knock 1 star off. However, my friend who ordered the same dish after me said his was fine. Not sure what to think. Oh yeah, this dish comes with miso soup. Other than the chopped scallop issue and the fact that the staff aren't actually Japanese, the place is a decent choice. I'd probably be back at some point to try their bento box or other sushi dishes.

Hidden gem in New West. One of the best sushi places I've been to. Cozy decor and delicious sushi.

    Scorpio roll

Sushi-lonesome... First time coming here since the new ownership took over. Both the outside and inside were renovated, simple clean modern design and furnishings. Its physical layout and appearance is better than before. I believe quite a bit of thoughts and work were put into maximizing the limited space it had to work with during the renovation process. Good job! Once again, I am dining solo after a long day so don't judge me if it seems like I am pigging out. Here were the food I ordered; 1. Toro, unagi, foie gras. Salmon toro, chopped scallops, uni nigiris. Could be a little more generous on the uni, toro wasn't too fresh, salmon toro was buttery, foie gras was too dry, unagi was okay, personally preferred chopped scallops premixed with the masago. Overall, rice ratio was too much. 2. Scorpio roll. A little too much pressure on the rice resulting in it becoming mushy and lost its texture. I personally think a stingy mashed jalapeño taste is more suitable to match the name of this roll rather than the sweet mustard taste. 3. BBQ saba. Very nicely grilled, tasty and went well with the sake. 4. Deep fried soft shell crab. Just the way a deep fried soft shell crab should be; light gentle crisp all around, tasty and retaining its appearance. 5. Appetizer tempura. Light crisp with a nice clean taste and without any excessive oil. 6. Mini assorted sashimi. Great little sashimi platter for solo diners like me. Everything was fresh and tasty. I came here twice when its used to be Y Sushi and it was okay to satisfy your basic sushi cravings. Now with the new ownership, the menu has expanded. (Wished they added oyster mototaki). The place had that small cozy atmosphere therefore solo dining wasn't so awkward and intimidating. The service was very friendly, attentive and accommodating from the start till the end. As for the food, it's mostly okay. The main thing it should be more aware of is the tuna toro and the sushi rice, less pressure on the rolls and when forming the rice for the nigiris. I will come back to try other dishes. I wish this business much success! Good luck! Mutual 3 stars for now...

good food, friendly service and cozy atmosphere. I just found this newly opened sushi restaurant near my place. I will definitely come back with my family.

    a sushi platter

The food here was really good. I had the sashimi and sushi roll combo and it was very tasty. The fish tasted fresh and was full of flavour and the rolls were made very well.

At first glance, it looks like a tiny, old establishment that I normally wouldn't walk into if I were passing by, but the food is very fairly priced, tasty and well portioned. The waitress was very nice as well. I ordered the Volcano Roll ($12.75) and Salmon Tataki Roll ($12.95). My friend ordered the Alaska Roll($11.50) and Appetizer Sashimi ($9.95). We were both very full in the end and barely able to finish our food. The volcano roll was topped with a very generous mountain of torched scallop in the center under all the tempura bits. The Salmon Tataki Roll was torched and sprinkled with delicious crunchy bits on top that made the texture a more enjoyable experience. I would definitely come back to try different items or order from them in the future.

The rolls didn't fall apart and luckily they weren't too sweet. There's a good mix of raw sushi and cooked ones (good for all ages and demographic) I didn't try the chicken don ($12.75) but i heard it was not bad The salmon sashimi ($17.25) for 8 pieces was nice and fatty. Good representative of salmon sashimi in Vancouver. I would go back and get this again for big groups

I got the mother's day special to share with another person. It was on the more expensive side, and for the amount of food you get, it didn't feel like it was worth the $90, but I really enjoyed the dish. Everything was very fresh and tasted lovely. The scallop melted in your mouth and was slightly sweet. The citrus dipping sauce that came with the dish was refreshing. I ordered two additional rolls as I wasn't full. In addition, I had my usual sweetened nitro matcha and my boyfriend had a Sapporo beer (bottle). The negitoro was okay, not my favourite but yellowtail, chopped scallop, and snow crab rolls were solid. My absolute favourite is the truffle lobster roll, which I ordered an extra roll as one is never enough! Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication with my extra truffle lobster roll and after waiting 10 to 15 minutes, I had to inquire about it. The staff apologized for the error and due to the wait, gave me the extra truffle lobster roll on the house. With an additional spicy shrimp roll, our bill total was $57.60 including taxes and excluding tip. We had a promo $10 credit to use so our total came to $47.60 plus tip. *Pro tip: the Nitro matcha drink comes with unlimited refills and I managed to drink 3 glasses of it - yum! **The new Happy Hour here is now with the purchase of a 4 roll ($30), 5 roll ($34), or 6 roll ($39) combo, you get a free drink from a list to choose from that includes alcoholic and non-alcoholic options that typically range from $5 to $14 each.

I wanted to come here because they have an aburi platter (38 pieces) for $65. I actually thought this was a sale price until a friend told me that is their every day price. I remembered 12 years ago, Green Leaf Sushi charges $60 for the same aburi platter. Looks like they had to reduce their prices. For such a good deal on a platter, I thought they are going to be super busy. To my surprise B and I showed up for dinner and they were pretty empty. The aburi sushi were delicious. My favorite was the Yukke Tuna. I liked the salmon aburi too. My least favorite was the ebi aburi and that was because it had black olives. I personally hate black olives. I can't stand the taste. B said he liked the ebi aburi. The ambiance and decor of the place was good. The aburi platter was the best deal I have seen so far. We will definitely be back.

We had a group of 10 and there were able to accommodate giving us a private-ish room. Seared and torched fish were in abundance with plates that come out looking (and tasting like a party. We went with a big group for dinner and ordered a ton, and almost everything hit. My personal favorite was the chashu rice bowl (came out sizzling on a hot stone). The bowl was loaded with rice and they were super generous with toppings and sauce. Comfort food perfection. If I came back with a smaller group, I'd honestly get that hot stone bowl again. For something lighter, the seafood salad was basically a poke-style bowl over spring greens and romaine. The cherry tomatoes tasted insanely fresh like that sweet, juicy bite that makes you stop midchew. The fish tasted fresh, if anything, the sauce was just a touch stronger than it needed to be, but the balance with the crisp romaine made it work really well. We also got the kabocha korokke, which is a Japanese croquette made with sweet squash and crispy panko outside, creamy soft inside. Super satisfying when I bit down to have squash dripping out. The mentaiko creamed pasta was rich and indulgent. Would be amazing with udon instead of a standard spaghetti. The one item I would skip next time is the OMG roll. It was a huge deep-fried roll covered in spicy mayo, and it was just a little too overpowering compared to everything else.. Overall, it's a touch too modern and westernized than traditional sushi place, but it's absolutely a great spot in my book and the service was excellent. They had a button that you can press and within one minute without fail, someone would help us.
