    Free miso soup!

We got a gyudon bowl, signature katsu bowl, and the mixed tempura and the only thing we'd get again is the tempura. The good - portions are large and the tempura was fried fresh and was delicious. They also give you free miso soup when you eat in and food came out quickly. The meh - there was too much sauce in the gyudon which made the rice soggy. The katsu was a bit tough and overall things lacked flavor. It has good reviews over all so maybe it just wasn't to our liking or they had a bad day, but we won't be going out of our way to try it again.

Wonderful food and service! A nice quick lunch before hiking. Staff were very friendly and even gave my boyfriend and I free Miso soup on the house. Will be back again!

Cut and pasted from their website: "Kokolo ~ Spirit of Kokolo: Kokolo Philosophy: Kokolo means the heart and mind in Japanese, but it has a much deeper meaning in the culinary world. Donburi is a traditional Japanese rice meal in a bowl. Its origins can be traced back to the Edo period (1600s to 1800s)." Quality/Quantity - The food was good and their quantity was generous, but the prices reflected it. As light eaters, we chose to get an appetizer and two entrees. My daughter wanted us to get 3 entrees, but I am so glad we/I did not listen to her as there would have been NO way we could have eaten all that food. Today we got the following: Takoyaki - 6 pieces. I prefer the inside of my takoyaki cooked more. But I have found that at least 50% of the takoyaki, including in Japan, the insides are soft and almost with raw dough. Just my personal preference for a more well done takoyaki. Pork Katsudon / 蛋ご飯勝ドン - With egg; a signature item. I felt the pork was a little too tough. My wife thought it had too much fat. My daughter really enjoyed this. Beef Sukiyaki Don / 牛丼湯 - With rice, I would have preferred udon ($2 more); next time. Ambiance - Small local restaurant, support local. Not sure if it is 100% family run and I did not ask. One unisex restroom, it could have used a quick sweeping. Very small parking lot. Service - 5 stars. The team was welcoming. Checked up on us a few times. Actually, when my daughter tried to order that 3rd entree, the employee informed us that they have fairly generous quantities. Again, glad we did not order 3 entrees. Price - $45 + tip. A little more expensive than I expected. But as light eaters and if you divide by 3, it is more reasonably priced. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2015.

Amazing!! My friend and I have been wanting to try this place for so long and we finally made the journey out! And it's such a great location right across from the movie theater and so close to the parking garage. I got the unadon and my friend got the chicken katsu. I didn't realize how big the regular size was! I could have been good with a small, but it was great nonetheless. It was such a large portion of eel, and so flavorful! Plus whatever sauce they use is amazing. Would definitely come back again. :)

Cozy place for pure Japanese comfort food with gracious service To order, you walk up to the counter in front of the door. Once order placed, you find a table and the waitstaff will bring out your food shortly. Food was served quickly and efficiently. The portions were impressive!! The size of the pork katsu was HUGE for a $14 price tag. The mixed tempura had over a dozen pieces!! Not only were the portions huge, everything was delicious. All the fried stuff was perfectly done and not greasy at all. The staff were all so sweet and gracious. They were super patient with our large party of 10

I'm a huge foodie, and today we decided to check out a new spot, Kokolo Donburi in Livermore. The food completely exceeded our expectations! Based on the great reviews, I knew it would be good, but it was better than good--it was excellent. The portions are incredibly generous, the atmosphere is wonderful, and every bite was delicious. On top of that, the staff is very attentive and kind. A special shoutout to Jenny, who was absolutely fabulous and made our meal even better! We will definitely be visiting again soon. Highly recommend

This is one of my go-to places for a "healthier-ish" option for fast food! Love that the prices are affordable and service is quick. Staff is also very friendly. We like their katsu curry, agedashi tofu, and gyudon. My only gripe is the sauces are a bit too sweet for my liking but overall good value and taste for your money.

First time here, and it was a really good experience. Food is great and the staff is really nice.

This food was amazing. We went there for lunch and had their edamame, fried calamari squid, shrimp tempura, and pork katsu. Their edamame was perfectly seasoned, fried calamari squid was fried just right and was crunchy with every bite, shrimp tempura was also really good and very crunchy, lastly the pork katsu was very juicy and just perfection. Had a great time there and service was awesome. Would definitely recommend going there to eat. Will also bring my friends and family there next time.

If you are looking for fast and delicious Japanese food, KoKoLo Donburi is a great choice. It's not a sushi place. They have dishes with rice like katsu, wagyu beef and unagi. They also have small plates like tempura and gyoza. We ordered: Signature Katsu Don: Delicious with a perfect crunch and not greasy at all. Gyudon: A flavorful bowl of tender Wagyu beef over rice. So good! The service was efficient and quick. The person who helped us was polite and friendly. The place was clean with simple Japanese artwork. Will definitely return when in Livermore. I want to try the sukiyaki!

Yummy food! Generous portion! Good service! Cozy atmosphere! I visited Kokolo Donburi for lunch with a big group of 8. First time there, the owner is very attentive, sweet & friendly! The food was delicious! My favorite is the Waygu beef curry & deep fried herring! The katsu was very good too! We also ordered tempura, mapo tofu, Oyako Don, Siu Mai & salad etc. Actually everything we ordered was good! The only thing is I think they can cut down on the rice. Maybe we ordered too much, we had so much rice left. Haha! I heard that the unagi rice is very delicious too, will try that next time! We had a wonderful lunch! Will definitely go back again!

This is a great place for very reasonably priced Japanese comfort food, things like katsu and yalisoba. I liked their curry katsu and mapu tofu (Japanese style obviously). Friendly service - you order at the counter. Nice big portions. Very relaxed, not fancy at all. Recommended - it hit the spot adter being on the road for several hours.

    Chicken curry katsu

Service was nice and included a free miso soup to go! Food was very cheap and came in very large portions. However it came at the cost of the food quality-- the chicken katsu was quite dry and mushy, and the curry was really sweet.

Severe Food Poisoning -- And a Complete Lack of Compassion From the Owner…read more On Friday, July 31st, we ordered three sushi rolls and a bento box from Roppongi Sushi for pickup. My husband waited almost 40 minutes longer than expected for the food. We have eaten here several times before and liked it. I ate significantly more of the sushi than he did. The next morning, I felt absolutely terrible. After about 12 hours, I became violently sick and threw up all of the sushi. I couldn't believe that after all that time, it was still coming back up. I have never been that sick. I was extremely weak and lethargic, could barely eat for days, and it took several days to feel normal again. I'm a breastfeeding mom to a 5-month-old and also have a 20-month-old, so being that sick was especially difficult. I nearly lost my milk supply because I could barely eat or drink, and I was so exhausted that I could barely help with my children. I called the restaurant Saturday afternoon to let the manager know what happened. Instead of asking if I was okay or expressing any concern, her first response was, "What roll did you eat?" When I told her which one I suspected, she said, "A lot of people ordered that," and offered to refund one roll. I explained how seriously sick I had been and how difficult it was to care for my children while feeling that way. I even asked her if she was a mother and how she would feel in my situation. Her response was, "Enough -- just stop already!" followed by "We work so hard." I understand restaurants work hard, I worked in restaurants for 10 years myself! but customers deserve compassion when they report becoming violently ill after eating their food. I wasn't looking for an argument--a little compassion would have gone a long way. She eventually refunded almost the entire order, but only after a very dismissive interaction. I would not have written this review if the owner had shown even a little compassion. She never followed up with me to see if I was ok. Unfortunately, after this experience, I will NEVER be returning to Roppongi Sushi, and it will probably be a very long time before I feel comfortable eating sushi again.
