The Chirashi Bowl I had was excellent, with three thick pieces each of salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and amberjack. There was also one shrimp, masago (fish eggs), and two pieces of tamago egg. There was seaweed and some sushi rice underneath. The fish was super fresh and with the portion, it really filled me up. The only reason for the missing star is the ambiance... it's really quiet in the restaurant, which can be nice at times, but also creepy if you're the only patron. There was no music or a tv playing and when other customers did come in to sit down, no one wanted to talk at a normal volume, because it was like a library in there. Don't get me wrong, the server was very nice and thankful, and she refilled my green tea right when I needed it. I would eat from here again, but maybe take it to go next time. read more

I really loved this cozy sushi spot! There was a wide variety of plates from sushi rolls to bento boxes - food for everyone to enjoy. The servers were also quick and polite. I ordered two rolls - the california roll and the Hawaiian roll. It came with a miso soup, which was rich in flavor. The California roll was delicious with creamy imitation crab and avocado, and the Hawaiian roll had a sweet and sour flavor from the unagi sauce and lemons on top. I was satisfied after eating these two rolls and the soup. Keep in mind that if you have a large appetite like I do, order a regular roll and at least another small roll. The Hawaiian roll got a little too sweet for me towards the end, so I would have preferred a little less sauce, but overall it was still very good. The only thing I want to add about this place is that there is not much parking! This plaza gets crazy busy during lunch hour, so plan accordingly to carpool or arrive early to reduce the parking anxiety. read more

Decided to stop in since yelpers were positive about the food but maybe I ordered the wrong thing. Selected the 3 item box lunch express of Agadashi Tofu, Tempura Calamari, Hamachi Nigiri and the bento included soup, rice & salad: Miso Soup- no tofu or seaweed, just the broth; so very plain. Agadashi Tofu: not seasoned and the batter was on the thicker side but the tofu was very hot. Calamari Tempura: the same batter was used as the tofu but the portion size was decent however the batter did not really adhere to the pieces of calamari so after the first bite the tentacle would come right out of the batter leaving you with a batter straw. The rings held on a little better but as mentioned a little thick and lacking in seasoning. Hamachi Nigiri- Presented well, however the hamachi was lacking in flavor and the rices fell flat on seasoning and texture. 4 stars for the service as the servers were nice, attentive and fast so I just wish my order was equal to the service. read more

Ordered food for takeout. I got the 3 item bento and shrimp tempura roll. It was a little pricy for the 3 item bento, came out to about $24 dollars and they forgot to add my miso soup and salad. The tempura sauce also had a funny taste, so I didn't really get to enjoy the food as much as I wanted to. They however give decent amount of portion for the bento, but the beef teriyaki was a little over cooked and too chewy to eat. The shrimp tempura roll was not bad, but the roll did easily fall apart. I may try it out again and eat in the restaurant, as I know getting take out could be a hit or miss. read more

Honestly mediocre. This place certainly gets busy during lunch hours! I usually just come by for pick up, but I will occasionally dine-in here too. My go-to is the futomaki (vegetarian friendly)! It has shitake mushrooms, cucumber, tamago, pickled radish, and carrot. Very filling and healthy for a small lunch. I also recommend their lunch bento specials! Pretty good prices for the portions. I like the 2 Item Bento. This is personally a good portion for me. I love the quality of their salmon here, so I like to order the salmon nigiri. I have also tried the Chicken Katsu and the Saba (Grilled Mackeral) and they're both decent, but nothing crazy. I'm not a big fan of the miso soup here especially. read more

I've been looking for a decent sushi place in north San Jose for a while now and I have finally found it. We got the Double Roll with hamachi on the inside and salmon on the outside, the Pink Lady Roll, and the Crunch Roll and they were all delicious. The fish tasted fresh and the rolls with sauces were well balanced. My only wish was that the Crunch Roll tempura flakes we're warmed up, it would have took the roll to the next place. I ordered the teri grilled salmon, salmon sashimi, and maki tekka sushi. The sushis were reallyyy good. So fresh and well cut and rolled. The salmon i was expecting the teriyaki salmon but it was just plain. It was well cooked tho just plain. I enjoyed the salad, rice, and miso soup it came with. They seemed to have a lot of togo ordered for the lunch rush. What we Ordered: * Lion King Roll - was yummy! * I Love Saba Roll - was fresh, mainly wanted to try because I've never had a role with only saba on top * Yoda Roll - was watery. This place is located in a strip mall of 1st Street and Trimble in San Jose, conveniently located near the Homewood Suites San Jose Airport where I stay frequently. The food here is fresh, filling, and moderately priced. They have a wide selection on their menu. I usually get a Spider Roll and Crunchy Roll. Two rolls is plenty to fill most appetites and am pretty stuffed afterward. I have yet to try most of their other dishes. But it's hard to get away from my favorites when they do it so well. Okayama has an extensive menu and is pretty quick to get your order done (10ish minutes). The food tastes good, but they really skimp on the fish. These rolls are on the pricier end for sushi, but had the least amount of fish I've ever seen in a roll. I ordered the double double and Hawaiian roll. They both tasted fine, but each only had a tiny sliver of fish which was shocking. Even the lemon slices they had on top of the Hawaiian roll were thicker than the fish slices so that's saying something. For the price, I'd personally would go to a different sushi restaurant if you're looking for a place with more fish per roll. However, if you don't mind and you're in the area, give it a try! Their bento boxes will probably be a better option to get here. read more

Overdue review from March 21 - this was my first to-go order after the Shelter-in-Place order went into effect for the Bay Area. Eerie was the best description for the whole experience - I'm glad to see the restaurant owners took it seriously - they blocked entrance into the main restaurant floor and had one server take orders (she had a mask on) and bring the to go bags. Food really hit the spot as we were craving Japanese. We also admittedly intentionally over-ordered because who knows what would happen next with the pandemic. Hamachi Roll - Solid - tender, buttery yellowtail Korean Short Ribs - not sure why I ordered this from a Japanese restaurant, but it was decent. Spider Crab Roll - I liked it, but honestly I'm not a huge fan of rolls - again, not sure why I ordered this. It was good - big and chunky pieces. Salmon Bento - Pretty regular here, your garden variety dried out thin slice of (insert fish name). I hate that I never remember which rolls I get after because I just get lost in the menu and order whatever sounds good I've been here twice and left very satisfied each time. It has never been busy the times I went so getting seated was very easy. The one roll that stood out out of the the six that I've tried was the Hawaiian Roll. That one is my favorite one so far. The chocolate was a good touch and I liked the presentation. The waitress was nice. I did have to ask for a straw for my cup and spoon for my soup but I didn't have to ask for a fork for my cake. Low key vibes is what to expect from this spot. A bit of a hole in the wall and definitely more of a go-to lunch spot (assuming as such) since it's in a random shopper center in the middle of business parks. I found this place because of sushi cravings and it was less than 2 miles from home. I REALLLLLY wanted to love this place but realistically I only like this place. The prices are a bit high - almost all the rolls are around $15 each- which seem to be more rice and sauce ratio instead of fish and filling. The miso soup is literally just broth- which is fine if it was quality miso but it's more like cloudy broth. Salad- iceberg (not fully drained from washing) covered in super sweet dressing. What I DO love about this place is the sake and beer offering. All the glasses are served freezing cold which makes ever gulp of beer taste as good as the first. When I got my food, everything was tipped over in the box and wasabi got all over my avocado rolls and inari. I am not a fun of wasabi so I was really disappointed that I had to eat all of my food with wasabi on it. Now this is where I get more disappointed. My avocado rolls barely had any avocado in them. This spot is nice but there is nothing super fancy about their food. The rolls are good, the pink lady is my favorite. The sashimi is pretty expensive for the quality of fish so I would stick to rolls if you are looking to get the most bang for your buck.
