We love Kokoro, I've been a customer for years (since childhood) and we visit regularly. The prices are good, the teriyaki bowls are a lot like Tokyo Joe's. Just recently tried the sushi and we love it as well as our regular Kokoro bowls. The atmosphere is nothing special, very diner like, the prices are great though and the quality is good. We love that this location has a drive thru. The sit down service is excellent and they have great specials. The only thing I don't appreciate is when a waitress told us in a very rude manner to move when we sat ourselves at a 4 seater table (it was all they had at the time we walked in it was so busy!) she could have been more kind or made an exception since it was almost packed. They don't like small parties to sit at their larger tables. Which I get, unless it's the only table open! But overall I can't complain and we visit Kokoro's and enjoy it almost weekly. read more

Kokoro is a Denver classic: they consistently serve fast and delicious Japanese food, and in all the years I've been going there, I've never been disappointed. Their specialty is their variety of teriyaki bowls: you can choose any combo of beef, chicken (regular or white meat), and vegetables, over either brown or white rice. Service is friendly and efficient, and their prices are very low. Their edamame comes with a peanut sauce that is delicious. Kokoro is a local chain of three (now two) and I wish they'd add one or two more, most specifically out by my work! I usually end up at this location, though I also enjoyed the one on Broadway, at least until it closed in October 2011. The Colorado Boulevard location has a drive-through that is open at peak hours, adding to the quick service you get here. It's fast, cheap, healthy, and good. Hard to beat that. I almost always get the chicken and vegetable bowl, but they have a good variety of rice bowls and noodle dishes to go along with a limited sushi and appetizer menu. They offer your choice of white or dark chicken meat and white or brown rice on the bowls. It's not the best Japanese food ever, but it's so much better than fast food and at a very similar price. 6 dollars will net you a good-sized meal here, and I think it's much better than other similar restaurant chains that offer quickie Asian-style rice bowls. The sushi that I've tried has been ok, certainly better than the stuff you get at the grocery store but of course not as good as at an actual sushi restaurant. I'll try the noodles at some point because I have to have noodles on a regular basis, but usually I head here when I want the old standby. read more

Great joint. I've been coming here since I was a kid. I think of it as quick and healthy fastfood. I recommend chicken curry, California roll (it's not fancy but tastes great), pork cutlet (not so healthy), splash is also tasty and healthy. So good. I think it's a great place for a quick, inexpensive, and healthy meal. They have lots of options, meat, chicken, salmon, or veggies. They also have different sauces. If you go to their website they have their nutrition info which is very helpful. I am taking a star because they say their California roll says it has pollock, and when we double checked she said it was actually imitation crab, so as someone who does not eat shellfish it's frustrating because imitation crab usually has a little crab in it. IThe reviews are right about this place being fast an cheap. Paid 5$ for a beef curry bowl and waited les than one minute at the drive through ! Good for to go during a short lunch break. I have eaten here for over 10 years and lost a significant amount of weight because of it. Quality Red Bird chicken, delicious ingredients, and a small but comfortable atmosphere. Our go-to Japanese fast food. It is basic, not gourmet. For what they are, it is very good and nicely inexpensive. The splash bowl may be my daughter's favorite food to eat out, and she gets gyoza too. My hubby and I either get a bowl or some sushi. Service is always friendly and efficient. I love the food here, never in the 18 years I have been eating here has there been a big issue till now. The past two times I have been here the point system has been down, the first time it was down my waiter added it on for me later because my bill was so large , and he called me and put the points on later , He was very sweet!!!. That was totally awesome. This time super rude like I can't make promises etc etc I just don't understand why they have to be so rude about it that they should invest money in something that is more reliable and if they're not going to offer it anymore , then just tell customers that ! it's very frustrating and especially with the extra attitude on it cuz I come here once to twice a week, and for God sake I even own one of their t-shirt and one of their grocery little satchel bags with the 36 anniversary on there. I just feel like I've been getting treated not very well when I come here anymore and I don't know why,. My boyfriend and I live right down the street and have always been intrigued by this place so we decided to give the drive through a try. This is your most basic, bland, boring sushi and noodle dishes you could possibly ask for. I actually think the sushi we got was the worst I've had in a long time. Deliciously wonderful food! Been going there for over a decade and it's ALWAYS consistent. Have seen price increases, understandably, and they use to send out coupons, but haven't received those lately. Be sure to be a member of their Arrigato Club as you'll get a free bowl with 1000 points (I think that's the amount). Would have given them 5 stars, but their drive-thru seems to continually have problems getting my order correct. I'll order a tossed salad and inevitably will get home and find that there is no salad dressing! Never going to understand the low/negative views on Kokoro. This isn't a high-class, high-end Japanese sushi house, nor a fancy Asian restaurant. They advertise cheap, easy, quick, and delicious food, and that is EXACTLY what you get. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm a fan of their shrimp tempura bowl: hot tasty broth with just the right amount of goodies and noodles. Perfect for a sore throat, a cold day, or just a quick meal. The sushi is so-so, but good for the price and the selection. If you come here expecting the best meal of your Japanese cuisine life, you'll be disappointed. If you come here with an appetite, not much to spend, and an understanding of the type of restaurant you've walked into, you'll be happy. I order online about a couple of months ago. My order was delayed in Kokoro's, but that was probably because online ordering is fairly new option they offer. The food was great!! It was so delicious. I order miso soup, chicken curry, and dumplings. The dumplings look different from their gyoza counterpart, besides that, it was a good appetizer. We have been customers of this restaurant for 25+ years and generally have enjoyed the food and service expected for a fast food type Japanese restaurant - until yesterday. We had not been in for a few months and found a different experience on this visit: After ordering from dirty curling & worn menus (we had to ask for them) our waitress did not return (we found out later that she 'went on her break.') Thirty minutes later she returned, surprised to see that we still had no food and that no one had bothered to fill in for her. After checking with the kitchen she reported back that they had not even begun to prepare our orders. What's worse, during this time they had serviced many many cars through their drive through. Enough already: we left and do not plan to return. The long time staff (many knew most of their customers by name) are gone; the manager who used to be present at peak times was nowhere to be seen; the arguments between the kitchen staff and waiters were for all to hear. Considering our experience awarding even one star seems overly generous. read more

There was only 4 people in the place and lunch time was an hour away. We got up and left because the server and manager forced the issue. The original Kokoro in Denver. The service is blazingly fast, the food is good and I've never had a problem with any meal I've had here. It's not the best Japanese restaurant in the whole world, but for the price point and the aforementioned details, it's hard to beat Kokoro on Colorado Boulevard. The space is well used with a contoured counter in the center of the room, table seating around the periphery and a host stand/check out station situated near the kitchen. I had a bowl of udon and chicken katsu.....reminded me of my childhood in Hawaii when my parents would take us to the okazu at Ala Moana. Great memories. Reviewing the drive-in experience. Kind of awkward as we totally missed the first entrance and then the entrance to the drive-in has a no-left turn sign but we were on the street and no car coming anyways so we slid in from there (another car had did so too) as well as the one behind us. The lady who we ordered from had a thick accent which I am not whining against but she chose to speak really fast which usually isn't good for the drive-in communication. My ESL mom took it as an incomprehensible language so I had to scream the order from my passenger seat. Interesting experience. The food came out really fast. The taste is -okay- its just piping hot which is why its enjoyable when you are hungry. read more

I really was hoping this place was yummy, seeing as how it is so close to me and also because it's always a score when you find a new awesome restaurant. I was having a Philadelphia roll craving and so decided to go safe and ordered a roll and a spicy tuna roll. Philly roll description said it was raw smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber but when I got the roll it looked more like some sort of salmon jerky; super dry and the smokey taste was too much. The Miso ramen bowl was bland and looked terrible. The vegetable tempura was in the form of veggie tempura patties but no tempura sauce to dip it in. The only thing I enjoyed was the edamame and egg roll. I guess we won't be trying it out again so on to the next. I did order online and it was ready quick so that was a plus. read more

Called and went back for replacement. Location initially offered to provide just the curry, not remake meals. Said "no,would like hot meals." Got there and redo was ready. No apology, no refund or future coupon offered for inconvenience. Poor service as with other review when hot soup spilled all over car. Coming from LA, I've enjoyed a variety of great ramen noodles. My friend recommended Kokoro to me as an alternative in Denver. Seeing as they've been open for 25 years, I figured they were worth a try. We ordered the gyoza, unagi rolls, and miso ramen. The gyoza were deep fried and nothing special. The unagi rolls had a very small piece of unagi inside. The miso ramen was very salty. There weren't as many noodles as I would have liked. Everything is reasonable priced on their menu. Only thing is if you're remotely hungry you will need an appetizer and main dish. Then the price comes out to about $15 per person. For that price try Domo. They have great flavors and hearty portions. read more
