The service was great but my food was 4/10 For me, I've had way better Japanese style food. The restaurant was nice, a bit older style (like built 15-20 years ago and no upgrades since feel.) I'm giving this 2 stars as the food flavor was very poor. The gyoza tasted like many other restaurants which was fine. But the Shrimp tempura had way too much batter on it you could barely taste the shrimp. Chicken Katsu was the worst I've had. Tasted like a frozen chicken fillet deep fried in old oil then cut up. No flavor except for frost bite taste. The korokoro bowl was nasty, tasted like lunch meat with yet again "frozen chicken" flavor and the sauce wasn't the best either. Tasted like someone poured ketchup & Dr Pepper soda into teriyaki sauce! Literally! I will not be back again until they change the menu and perhaps cooks. First time & last time. I have been coming to this location for as long as I can remember. It also has consistently stayed the same (I'm a great way) for all of those years. It's a small, friendly, well run Japanese spot and neighborhood gem. Growing up, I'd always get the Splash bowl. Nowadays, I find myself getting the super beef bowl and sharing it with my two year old. He loves it. There nothing bad here and we additionally love to grab a little ramen and sushi from time to time. Be sure to get the pickled ginger and season sprinkles that are offered up here! Kokoro is a very solid place to grab a filling lunch. The inside has a very interesting setup, but I got takeout. Chicken katsu: this was ok. The breading was nice, but the chicken itself was a tad bit dry. Spicy mayo was solid dipping sauce though. Gyoza: the gyoza weren't quite as crispy as I had hoped, but I think this could be partially due to the fact that I got takeout and had to drive home before tasting it. Kokoro bowl (udon): portion size was good, and I really liked the udon. I do wish the sauce was a little more savory (it's on the sweeter side) and that there was more sauce over the veggies, but this was pretty good. Overall, kokoro is a pretty good option if you're looking for a quick, filling lunch that's tasty and has a good number of options. read more

I've been going there since 2003 and it's delicious every time. The staff is always friendly and the food is cheap and comes out quick. I never have any complaints. I always order the beef bowl , extra juice, extra onion , with ginger and spice flake. I also get the chicken katsu. read more

A staple in Denver for many years Kokoro is delicious quick Japanese cuisine. There is a small parking lot shared with other businesses. If you're by yourself or with other people it's easy to cozy up to the counter. The service is quick and all menu items are inexpensive ($10 or less) The last time I had the tsuekemono salad (assorted pickled vegetables) and splash (ramen with fish cake, hard boiled egg and other delicious condiments). They have pickled ginger, sriracha, and a spice blend to put on your entree if desired. Everything is made to order and comes out quickly. The servers are always friendly and make sure your water/beverage is refilled. They have a great loyalty program and you get coupons and free meals on your birthday. read more

Got the basic Beef Bowl as I have for 35 years...but today it was awful to the point it was inedible and I spit it out. The beef was greasy and tough and undercooked. When this restaurant still called Kokoro Bowl it was always great, but since it was changed to just Kokoru the food is bland with an "off" smell and texture and pale looking. Simply disgusting. This is my favorite place to go in Denver so something tasty, quick, but definitely NOT your typical fast food. If you're new to Kokoro, it's designed/based on the typical quick restaurants that you find in Japan, often focused on serving bowls with rice, meat, and sometimes veggies - quick, tasty, simple. And Kokoro does not disappoint! The servers were really nice and seated us right away. The menu really has something for everyone, no matter what you like or what your budget is. I went with the Gyoza and a Chicken & Vegetable Bowl. You do have the option of white rice or brown rice in any of their bowls, so if you want to be extra healthy, go for the brown rice. While the Gyoza were fully fried (versus just the bottom being fried, which is the classic way of making gyoza), they didn't fry them very long, so they have just the slightest hint of crispiness on the outside, but the inside was warm and juice. The Chicken & Vegetable bowl was really good, and I liked their sweet teriyaki sauce more than I expected to. Of course, if you like ginger, they'll bring you a whole pile of it to add to your bowl as you like. read more

Is this the flagship store? It sure has a very homey feeling to it. Not the parking though... with the drive through lane, parking was a mess! You can tell it's a family business run by Japanese people, they're polite, but kind of slow to take eat-in orders. Good thing the food came out shortly after we placed the order. If this is true home style Japanese cooking, they've Americanized it over the years. I don't remember the food at Kokoro's tasted like this! I can definitely think of better ramen places. The eel on a bed of rice was OK too, not much better than what they serve at Tokyo Joe's! We also got the Green Tea Cheesecake thinking how different Japanese style cheesecake is to that of New York style. Well, this wasn't all that. It was more gelatinous than airy. For many years I've been a loyal customer. The food has always been consistent and reasonably priced. Last night my husband and I ordered three chicken bowls two with brown rice and one with white rice. We ended up with three brown rice bowls. My husband took a bite and realized his chicken was not cooked. I took a bite of my chicken and it was still partially frozen in the middle and raw. When I mentioned to the wait staff that my chicken was not properly cooked the wait staff got angry and started shouting at me. I asked him to feel the chicken as it was cold and raw. This young man really had issues with anger. Everyone in the restaurant was looking and wondering what was going to happen. We left paying for one bowl. This is a public safety issue! read more

This is one of my all time favorite spots for my family and I to go to. I get so nostalgic whenever I come here because I've been going here ever since I was a kid. Seriously, please don't ever close this restaurant! It broke my heart when they closed the Broadway one. I love how fast and fresh the food comes out here. The servers have always been so kind too! They also have a drive thru, which is really nice when on the go. The drive thru is usually pretty fast too. I've tried most of the things on their menu but here are some of my favorites... + Chicken and veggie bowl - healthy and delicious. + Curry Chicken Bowl - their curry has a unique taste that's hard to describe, but you can't go wrong with this one. + Forest Child Soup - a warm, mushroomy soup that is a great complement to any entree. + Chicken and veggie gyoza - crispy, you get 5 in an order so it's a good one to share, and if you add some sriracha they are divine. + Green tea cheesecake - small slice of happiness and sweetness. It's a perfect little dessert to end your meal. The things I usually don't opt for are the sushi and the ramen. They're not bad, but their specialties here are those yummy bowls! I used to strictly just get the white meat chicken bowl, but I have since opened my horizons to other great entrees at kokoro. The shoyu ramen is great as is the spicy chicken splash. Get the gyoza. When I came to Kokoro many years ago (1999), it basically had a menu not much better than what I could find at Tokyo Joe's. In recent years, I had heard they had updated the menu and had started serving Ramen, and the quality of the food had increased substantially. Upon visiting last week, I found this to be quite true. We ordered the miso Ramen with extra shoyu eggs and substituted the white meat chicken for the pork. The broth was quite flavorful, the Ramen was well-cooked without being too hard or too soft, and there were lots of nice veggies in the bowl. This may not have been Izakaya or Sushi Den quality, however, for the price it could not be beat. I had a couple beers with my meal, because the prices were very good during happy hour. We also started our meal with some potstickers, which were excellent. The meal club here, Arigato, offers double points for meals purchased on Sundays. Service was good. Try to come when the place isn't too busy if you have that option. read more
