The kolaches at Kolache Factory are addictive. Every so often we'll make the 20 minute trek to get some of the savory treats. Our favorites are sausage, egg, and cheese and the sausage and gravy ones. Always worth the trip. The only downside is that they get so busy they don't answer phone calls. And there is usually a line when we get there. Sometimes they run out of certain types and we have to wait for them to make more. But if that isn't a sign that they are amazing, I'm not sure what is. read more

VERY disappointed in the fish served in the fish dinner. They used to serve a good Battered Cod fish dinner. The current fish served is not very good and a small portion. Suggest going back to the battered Cod and raise the price to cover the extra cost. OR Serve Pollock fish which is VERY similar to Cod but cost less. read more

I go to the kolache factory every couple of months, only because of the location. I love kolaches, and this place is hit or miss. Somedays they are out of what I want. The most recent time, I went there my kolache wasn't even cooked all the way. It was still doughy, enough to make my stomach irk with a bite! They need better quality check on their food. We look forward to fridays, as both my wife and I work from home. This gives us a chance to have kolaches for breakfast. We lived in Houston for a few years, and when we moved back to KC, we were delighted to know that one of our favorite breakfast treats was just up the road from our new (to us) house. I'm partial to the Texas hot, which is very much the same thing that I'd always order when we lived in Tx. The downside is that others like that one too, and it's not abnormal to walk in to find none left, even before 8am. Talk about a quick and easy breakfast bite! We absolutely love to stop by on a Sunday and grab a few Kolache for the road. My go to order is two sausage gravy and jalapeño popper that comes with bacon, jalapeño and cream cheese. Each kolache cost between $2-3 so we can walk out of there only spending about $10 for the two of us! You can also have them warm up your Kolache at no extra charge. We leave fill and happy every trip. I have noticed that they do cater and I think it would be a great option for a baby shower or something of that nature. read more

This place caught my eye. I had to find out what a "Kolache" is. I found that they were pastry rolls with different fillings and looked pretty tasty so headed out to give them a try. The Colombian coffee and sausage egg and cheese Kolache were great.. the others, not so much. We got the potato and egg, the mild sausage and a fruit one and they were blah. I didn't even know KC had options like this until I saw pictures of it on social media. I didn't know what a Kolache was so I looked it up beforehand and decided to give this place a try. For those that don't know, a Kolache is a Central European pastry that is usually made with a topping of fruit jam and originated as a semisweet wedding dessert. At this location they had both dessert style options as well as breakfast and entree options as well. For example, I ordered a blueberry fruit jam kolache as well as a sausage/egg/cheese version. Both were good. The blueberry kolache wasn't overtly sweet, which I appreciate because I think too many of American desserts are sugar overloaded. The sausage/egg/cheese kolache was filled with the scramble and served as a nice mini breakfast in one. The dough for both was fluffy and soft. I tried kolache once in Seattle at a local shop, and these don't compare but they are good if you're looking for some new baked good options. Overall, the flavor profile was on the average side, but I definitely appreciated the great puffy texture and friendly service. We've always loved Kolache Factory and normally would rate it 5 stars. However, the Shawnee location has been running out of certain flavors early lately and not making more. If you're going to be open for 3 more hours, the right thing to do is make more so that customers can get what they came for without having to wait 30 minutes for fresh. The older man that started this company is nasty. He never washes his hands. Please eat here at your own risk. I worked there. He flipped out on me one day after giving me the keys to open bc he over slept and I was there at the store unable to get in. Then he was angry about everything that day and fired me. It took me awhile to write this bc I really was confused about what happened and it weighed on me. I did nothing wrong. I verbally tell people not to eat there but I've never written a review. Now I have and told all that went with it. Check his fingernails when you go in there for yourself. Then you be the judge. Thank you for you nasty ways and harmful speech. Great place for breakfast or brunch. They close at 2:00 now. If you sign up online or look in the Valpak coupons in the mail you can get buy 3 get 3 free. Kolaches are basically meat, vegetables, and/or eggs stuffed in a buttery bread roll. There is a new Kolache of the month every month! My favorites are Italian Chicken and Egg & Cheese. If you want something south of the border go with Ranchero or Chicken Enchilada great for a little kick. You can't go wrong with their fruit kolaches either if you want something sweet. There's about 4 or 5 different fruit kinds. Also love coffee? They have great seasonal and flavored coffee that changes every 4 or 5 months. Great staff and music :) ambience is great. We were disappointed. The kolaches were ok, but underseasoned. We tried the bacon egg and cheese, sausage egg and cheese, jalapeño sausage and cheese, Philly cheesesteak, smoked cheddar and cream cheese kolaches. The bread on all of them was ok, but nothing special. In the bacon and sausage kolaches we couldn't taste any meat. My friend that had the jalapeño sausage said the spice was ok, and the friend that ate the philly said it was ok but he was disappointed there were no bell peppers inside with the meat and onions. So the basics, for the uninitiated. Kolaches are basically little bread rolls stuffed with things. At the Kolache Factory, they are stuffed with bacon & cheese, ham and cheese, egg ham and cheese, sausages, polish sausages, pizza toppings, Italian chicken, and so on and so forth. There are fruit filled things, cinnamon roll type things, and croissants too! I'm a big fan of the mild or Texas hot sausages. And I LOVE the ham and cheese kolache. it is my go to kolache. They dice up the ham nice and tiny, add melty cheese and voila! delicious! You can get them warm or room temp (if you are taking them home). You just need to pop them in the microwave for like 20 seconds when you are ready to eat them and they are pipin' hot and ready for your belly! Added bonus, you can order warm or frozen dinner rolls by the dozen. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DOING JUST THAT! We had a coupon for buy one get one free and got 2 dozen frozen dinner rolls that we took for Thanksgiving. We let them thaw per the instructions and popped them in the oven and they came out perfectly cooked and they were quite possibly the best dinner roll I've had. I order a dozen mixed breakfast type kolaches and deliver to client meetings. The customer service has always been great. They prepare the to go order and the presentation is great. I was initially hesitant about Kolache Factory...figuring it to be a chain of some sort. But we were in the area anyways for sushi, and with KF being just down the road, it was an easy decision to stop by. Glad I did, b/c the products were pretty tasty. There were lots of choices. I decided to go with their most popular kolache which was the sausage and gravy. My husband doesn't eat beef or pork, so I chose the croissant filled with Italian chicken. I def rec heating your food up, b/c it makes such a difference. The filling to bun ratio for both items was very good. I just really like the idea of biting into a warm bun and hitting gravy. And it's so cute and portable. My husband's croissant was very large and maybe even tastier than mine. They used chicken breast, but it wasn't overly dry and I don't think that mattered too much b/c the sauce adds moisture. He gave his a 9/10. I'd give mine a 7.5/10. I've had sausage and gravy kolache before with tastier gravy and softer, thicker bun. Glad we stopped by, and recommend KF to anyone who enjoys filled buns. We'll have to return for their desserts (though those are not filled, but look more like danishes). read more

I love Kolache factory. I used to get kolache from 135th and Metcalf location years ago. I'm glad it opens one near my house. I love ham, egg and cheese kolache the most and ranchero kolache. I remembered it used to be small but not it is bigger than before. Service is quick and I don't have to wait long. I usually went around 8:30-9:00am. Their morning blend coffee is so delicious and not too strong which is the way I enjoy. They also have sticky buns and it is so delicious. Every time I bought kolache to the my work or party, everyone always asked me where do I get those. If you like stuff bread for breakfast, give this place a try.
