    Czech liquors
    Brandi A.

Service is nice, but we ordered to go food and we believe they gave us the wrong order. Didn't include sides, didn't match the description and for $28 for a rap the a bowl of liquid water with 5-6 cubes of meat was a real let down. Strudel was apply and cinnamon filled. A little too strong for my cinnamon level, but our group enjoyed and reminded us of home. Decent bar selection including some Czech liquors. Might come back for a snack and drink, but food left A LOT to be desired.

The place was decorated so cute but it was a little warm inside Nice owners and wait staff The food was delicious but I wish the cheese on the cheesy bread was melted A little pricey but went home with tons of leftovers My favorite bite was the pierogis with bacon and sour cream

Heard about this restaurant from a cousin who enjoys it. Food was great, particularly the beef with cream sauce and duck specialties. The kielbasa and pierogi were good as well. The meal paired nicely with cold, Czech beers that we ordered. Service was slow, and polite. Was able to speak with others in a casual, laid back type of environment and actually be able to hear each other.

I came here to get their garlic soup and their beef with cream sauce. I found the garlic soup to be really unique for its melted cheese. For the beef entree, it comes with 3 pieces of bread - I really enjoyed dipping it on the sauce!

Ate here by myself trying out Czech and Slovak food for the first time feeling curious about what to choose and eat for the first time. I had 3 different dishes that it looks great and it had tasted really good and delicious. The service there was also attentive and friendly that the server name was Carol. The ambiance was definitely quiet and relaxed. I couldn't agree more. Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time! :)

Cozy ambiance, great prices, and delicious food. The portions are generous and the serving staff is very attentive and friendly. Love the coziness of both the food and the space.

Updating my review to reflect the amazing meal I recently had. Our server was very friendly. Decided to explore the menu and ordered the pork schnitzel in potato pancake batter. The pork was tender, flavorful, and fried perfectly! I also loved the cheese on top. And the mashed potatoes... so delicious. Their bread dumplings are perfect for sauce dipping. Apple strudel is still spot on! They give hearty portions and I would still highly recommend :)

This place is such a hidden gem! I've been wanting to check it out for a while and have probably passed it a hundred times. The inside is super charming with bohemian, German, Bavarian, and Alpine vibes--definitely a unique spot compared to the rest of the neighborhood. I had a 1/2 pint of Czech beer, which was cold and crisp, and the chicken schnitzel with potatoes. The schnitzel was perfectly tender, paired with mashed potatoes, pickled carrots, cucumber, and tomatoes--light but satisfying. The ice cream and apple strudel for dessert were the perfect sweet ending. The service was excellent, the ambiance was peaceful, and I can't wait to return. (Pro tip: they accept credit cards, but bring cash for tips!)

    Pierogis!

Came here to snuff my pierogi craving as the closest authentic spot to have them on the menu. Left with a full stomach and taste buds happy. An order of pierogis will set you back $20+! But it comes perfectly cooked in soft doughy goodness topped with chunky bacon and a side of sour cream. +1 for having Pilsner Urquell! (delicious Czech beer)

Food quality and homey feel haven't changed though I think they may have done some renovations. On a freezing night, everything was really satisfying and provided the definition of warm, comfort food, especially the venison goulash (special for the day) and the bread dumplings, which were definitely unique. I had the jagerschnitzel as my entree with potato salad. Massive portions that I took home for the next night's dinner as well. The schnitzel was delicious--creamy, perfectly crispy but tender. But the potato salad...literally the BEST I've ever had. Have and would recommend to all my friends. Tip: come as close to opening (5pm) as possible if you like to hang out at your table for a while/order a lot. The waitress told us abruptly that the kitchen closed at 8 so we had to put our dessert orders in quickly, but she was very nice about it! Service was great overall.

It's Friday, July 3...and it's a heatwave; lots of people are out of town and streets of NYC are not super busy. I got the lunch special with two fried BEC pierogi, two fried short rib pierogi, and a cup of cold borscht. For $4, I added the bacon/kielbasa/onion topping, which came in a little cup; it's worth it. Both pierogi options were great, but I actually thought the BEC was the star of the show. The egg was not runny and the bacon was chopped very fine; the filling was seasoned well with salt and pepper. My husband really enjoyed the short rib pierogi. Next time, I'll try the potato one. Service was fast and the prices were reasonable. The space is very retro with interesting art on the wall. My only (minor) complaint would be that the Diet Coke is watery, but I'm not gonna subtract a star for that. Will definitely come back.

I love that they let you get 8 different pierogis in one order. I wish they let you add the special in too, but that's alright. My favorite pierogis were the suarkraut and mushroom, arugula and goat cheese, cheese, and short rib. While the pierogis were great, I think I liked the Holubtsi even more. I've never had it before and it was quite good. The mushroom gravy was delicious. I love beats so the borscht was really good too. Our wait wasn't long on a Saturday around 6pm. Karczma makes a pork version which was so so good. Big fat pieces. Thick, perfectly wrapped cabbage. Juicy, flavorful filling. The sauce was bright with tomato flavor. I got the schnitzel (breaded chicken cutlet) and it came with a side of coleslaw and mashed potatoes. You used to be able to pick two sides, but anyway... There was zero seasoning in the whole dish. The coleslaw tasty like nothing. It was full of mayo but tasted like nothing. The chicken was super dry and tasted like it had been fried yesterday and then heated in the microwave. The mashed potatoes had an annoying amount of chopped dill on top, but no salt. The biggest sadness came when I tasted the pickle soup. It is a shadow of its former self. It's located right next door to a German butcher, which adds to the old-world feel before you even walk in. We've only visited the small outdoor seating area along 2nd Avenue, and it's become one of our favorite places to relax, enjoy a drink, and watch the neighborhood go by. The patio is fairly small, so tables fill up quickly. If you're bringing your pup, I'd recommend a carrier or having them on all fours. There just isn't enough room for a stroller without making the space feel cramped. The star of the menu (at least for us) is the giant soft pretzel. It's perfectly warm, chewy, and served with Dijon mustard--simple but absolutely delicious. If you're ordering beer, be prepared...the pints are enormous! Mom isn't much of a beer drinker, so she ordered the rosé cider instead and loved it. The atmosphere is relaxed, the service is friendly, and it's an ideal stop if you're looking to unwind rather than rush through a meal. Dogba's Verdict If your humans enjoy a good German beer, a giant pretzel, and a little people watching, Heidelberg is definitely worth a stop. I'll happily supervise from my carrier while waiting for pretzel crumbs to magically fall my way. 4 paws up! And boy, were we in for a pleasant surprise, as we truly enjoyed ourselves. No one does beer hall like a German place. This is just facts. We had the Berliner Weisse, which comes in a .5L or 1L boot (does German beer count if it's not in a boot?). This was a delicious raspberry syrupy undertone wheat beer, and definitely a must have for next time. Though there were like a dozen other beers I need to have. They also have a pretty extensive wine selection, if that's your thing. We were there for a brunch. When we arrived, before 1pm, it wasn't busy at all. By the time we left, it was pretty full. The bar had seats though. Anyhoo, I tried their "energizer" which were eggs any style (poached for me), creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Never had a breakfast like this one! It was almost like a deconstructed eggs Florentine. YUM. My husband had the Heidelberger which was a German style hamburger with frizzled onions and mashed potatoes. He let me try some, it was pretty fantastic so I may need to try it sometime myself. Also do not miss their ginormous Bavarian pretzel. It was quite possibly the best I've had (and I've had many!). The service was outstanding, and the vibe was ... I dunno a step above what you saw in Fast Times where they go to the German restaurant. My only regret is that I didn't get the apfelstrudel. Next time! Washrooms are single occupancy.
