I went on a weekday for sushi lunch and there was no wait. My local friends took me here and said that it's one of their favorite Japanese spots in Austin that's affordable. The sushi lunch consists of five different nigiri and a roll (of your choice). I got the hamachi roll. It's $22 for the sushi lunch. My friend got the bento lunch that was a little more expensive but much more food. So I would say that while the sushi is good for the price, the bento box has a much greater value. One of the best sushi places in austin, and that includes uroko and all the various uchis!!! Takowasa is amazing and very rare to find in america. Ebi fry was solid and the tartar sauce that comes with it is actually more like a coleslaw. The sushi is pretty on point, and we're not fans of rolls so we don't try or recommend them, but the nigiri was solid which says a great deal about the quality of a sushi place. You cannot hide behind nigiri, but you can hide all sorts of sins in a row, so when we find good nigiri we know it's a damn good sushi place and this is that! Service is also really great here, super nice servers who are knowledgeable and they employ Japanese servers regularly, so it really adds to the overall experience. Recommendations from the Japanese servers tend to be on point. We've been here before and Remi was a really great server! You can tell they care about and respect the work that they themselves do, and that is something as a customer that I can appreciate. If you drink beer stay away from the draft asahi, and instead get a bottle of Sapporo or Kirin for $3 less and the exact same amount of beer. Actually I think it might be a bit more beer, but for $9 for a small draft, the asahi is not worth it. If they drop this price down to seven, I'd say it'd be worth it. The ambiance is nice as well, upscale modern with some classic sushi vibes thrown in. I would personally recommend a spot at the bar or the sushi bar, but that is also just me as I'm not a big fan of table service no matter where I go. I always love the vibes of Komé as soon as you walking. It's moody, cool, and intimate. They have an extensive menu for both lunch and dinner. Personally think all their bento meals are such a steal for the price as well! Portions are huge and quality of fish is spectacular. This time around service was super kind. We also got the daily secret menu for two which got us five pieces of nigiri each (10 total) for $38. The woman behind the counter serving drinks (sorry I don't remember her name) but she recommended a delicious seasonal sake that I would drink every day of the week. It was served in a glass within a box (which is traditional) and it was quite a generous pour. Being from California, I will never get a roll with cream cheese, but this is our go-to when looking for a good sushi meal. Perfectly cooked, juicy, and the breading is crispy. The miso mayo that comes with the Kome fries is good. Nice sweetness to it. The midnight sun was good. I liked the sauce, and the flavors in the roll. The matcha cheesecake would be a 5/5 for me but it was sooo tiny. It was about three bites. But the flavor is sooo good. I wish it was adult size. Lol. Visited for lunch after hearing about all the hype. They're one of the few local Japanese restaurants to offer curry. It was one of the better ones with a darker, less sweet roux but still not the best I've had. The food was also really overpriced. The basic lunch portion of the curry that comes with 2 veggie croquettes is already $18. If you want to get the katsu that normally comes with curry, that's easily another $4-5 which is ridiculous IMO. I've had bigger portions of better curry in overly expensive Bay Area for cheaper. Also, the portion of curry and rice is actually pretty small. I had to be really stingy about how much curry sauce I had with each bite; I wouldn't have had enough to mix with all the rice if I didn't ration. The side salad was pretty refreshing though and they were nice enough to give me one that doesn't come with the normal cucumbers. Overall, I'm not sure I'd come back to Kome. They're not bad but there's also nothing that stands out. The quality of the food doesn't match the higher prices; there are better options in town. read more

At least compared to my experiences in San Francisco, Vancouver BC, and the Tokyo airport... definitely a popular spot, expect to either sit at the bar or perhaps make a reservation (didn't check if they take them?) ... as a single guy I was able to go right up to the bar but there were couples and groups waiting. This restaurant seems to have it all good drinks, good food, and sushi. Some I have never tried before for example the foie gras and duck! It was delicious and interesting! We visited here as a passport stop on the Asian restaurant passport. We started off with the bluefin tuna that came in an avocado, this was really good but having to scoop the avocado out of the shell felt unnecessary and made it a bit messier. The cold soba noodles were really delicious we loved the variety of things to add to it and the sauce as well. The tempura was cooked perfectly. The waffle fries were fried well but the sauce was a little bit too sweet for our preference. We also got the salmon skin roll and toro roll and we felt like the toro didn't stand out too much in the roll, and toro is our favorite sushi so we were hoping to taste more of it. Our waiter was hard to flag down for most of the meal and when we finished the meal and told her our takoyaki still hadn't arrived, she said it would be coming out soon, and we still waited another 15 minutes. Definitely not worth waiting in a queue for all the people going for a date dinner to finish their food. The décor is tasteful, and one party room is designate for large party reservations. Me and my partner spent our dinner at Komé tonight, to celebrate our one year anniversary. We ordered some of the signature rolls (Alone together and Rock-and-Roll) and the matcha cheesecake. Komé is one of the best sushi spots in town, with fresh, decadent, and succulent sushi with lots of different options to choose from. We really enjoyed our meal there, and our waitress Marina was absolutely wonderful. She was so informative and kind, and her positive energy was contagious. She gave us the best service that I have ever had at a sushi place, and I hope the manager gives her a pay raise or promotion. The ambiance of Komé is cozy and mature, yet family friendly and casual enough for a friends get together or company meeting. Its decor is easy on the eyes and Japanese-inspired -- we were happy to see the collection of the Maneki Nekos on the shelves.
