We were out of towners walking around the city, hungry and looking for good grub. Accidentally stumbled upon this place and my goodness !! What a blessing it was! First of all, it is so cute in here and surprisingly a big space. I usually love the bar area if I'm solo or a party of two. So naturally we sat the bar. Service and staff were great, super helpful in recommending items and combos. I can't remember what combo we ended up getting but- absolutely delicious!!!! Everything. So good! We were able to share a combo between two of us. And we got a couple of apps; garlic spicy edamame and shishito peppers. I also tried their yuzu wheat ale and oh man so tasty. We left full and delighted.

Food prepared in front of you.

Love this spot. The service is friendly, and the chefs will recommend dishes as they prepare the food. The atmosphere is open and social. I'll be coming here every day at SXSW.

Great ambiance with a classic sushi bar vibe. The space is dimly lit with a central sushi counter where you can watch the chefs in action, which adds a nice touch to the dining experience. Eel Roll - 6/10 A bit underwhelming. The flavor didn't stand out and the roll had too much rice, which overpowered the eel. Chirashi Bowl - 9/10 This was the highlight. At $32, it's a great value for Austin, where affordable, high-quality sushi is hard to find. The salmon and otoro were especially fresh and buttery. Would definitely come back just for this.

We did the omakase here and it was terrific! Ambiance was nice, not too crowded. Chef choices were all great. We liked the scallop and the ini so much we got extra at the end. The same was wonderful but alas, I forget the name. It was filtered, cold, and crisp. The service was not great at first, and things were very slow and not explained, but then another person came and took charge and we couldn't ask for better. Will go again!!

Seated at the sushi counter, Sushi Junai was a nice little vibe. Very trendy interior, some nice Japanese decor to set the scene. Clean, minimal design. Service from the waitstaff was friendly although the sushi chefs were a little more standoff-ish. It was lunch, so things weren't super busy. Started off with the Candy Cane Roll based on what I saw on Yelp. It was good albeit not quite up there with the top tier of sushi rolls I've tried. The standout on the visit was definitely the Toro Trio - small at just 3 pieces ($18) but very high quality mix of various tunas that almost melt in your mouth. If you can swing it as part of your meal, I'd highly recommend the Toro Trio Sushi!

one of the best happy hour places for sushi! weren't there for the first time on friday after getting a friend recommendation and sushi junai didn't disappoint. we didn't have a reservation but the team was able to seat us at the bar which was a great experience because we got to see the chefs make our roles. the place looked and smelled clean. i will say parking is tough since it's all street parking in the middle of downtown but it is worth it! ps. try their hand roll!

Sushi was delicious. They took us last minute before they closed. Service was great, we sat at the bar and the sushi chefs were very kind. Cute ambiance, loved the lobby area.

Food and service were great! Nice ambience, go for the omakase, everyone is very friendly and it's totally worth it.

Found this place on Yelp when craving some good sushi. Maybe the best sushi deal in downtown Austin. Their Happy Hour essentially makes all the sushi half off for about an hour and a half. I was able to consume 50 worth of sushi this way that would have easily cost over $100 without the happy hour. Service was fast and the restaurant has a cool trendy vibe to it.

The customer service was excellent. The quality of the fish was decent and the pricing was fairly competitive. The scallops were legit. I should have ordered the seasonal, limited sushi and nigiri items but opted for a set menu and chirashi bowl instead. The wasabi had some serious kick to it with some chunky bits of root. Will have to check out the a la carte menu items next time! The restaurant space was cozy. The sushi chefs were engaged and made sure every customer was taken care of. Overall, it was a good meal.

We also had the BBQ eel which was delicious (a bit pricey for 3-4 small pieces for $18, but it is cooked SO well). We had the charred edamame which does have beef in it (take note vegetarians -- there aren't a lot of veggie only dishes on the menu), and the taiyaki cornbread (excellent flavor and texture). We did get the hippie bone marrow (it's eggplant!) and the Kinoko mushroom for our vegetarian friend and she really liked both it even though she's not big into mushrooms (the kinoko has a strong umami flavor, it's quite meat-like actually). We got the hot pocketz too which are brisket based; they were very cheesy (smoked gouda) -- good flavor but the brisket isn't strong. My coworkers also tried one of their specials which is essentially a Japanese "famed dish" -- it's squid marinated in it's own guts. I tried the tiniest piece and it was one of the most abhorrent things I've had -- it was SO salty and kind of sour. I like fried squid but this was nothing like that; def would not recommend but if you like to try weird things, go for it. We also got several drinks -- the Match painkiller and Puff puff pass (serves 2 people) are both absolutely delightful! Very fruity/tiki-like. Someone else got the grapefruit sour which is basically Shochu in a glass that comes with a fresh half of grapefruit and a juicer you can prep yourself! Overall -- I like Kemuri a lot. The food is a little high for the portion sizes, but it's a solid place to go with friends/coworkers and share things so you can try a lot. Because things come out like it courses, you can easily get full without overeating. And the drinks are great! It's a more casual place inside, but you could still have a nice/fun date night here.

Both of the sandos were perfect. The wagyu beef sando had a little bit more flavor but it was slight and both are worth trying. The service was stellar and they were easy to book on OpenTable I also tried the green tea mocktail and found it to be light and refreshing and I was happy that it wasn't super sweet My two favorite items were: 1. The Edamame - which were charred in a way that I feel like I've never experienced it before and had such great flavor. 2. The scallop roll had a thinly sliced shaved truffle on top that made the roll simple yet out of this world. Shout out to the manager who came by just to check in.
