I have had curry twice here and it has been cold both times. I have had their sushi and the rice was too hard. Their ramen is just not good. Their udon was ok but you can't really go wrong with udon. Good thing is their service is pretty nice, though. 3 stars for being cutesy and "Japanese-like" at least! hehe~ I would definitely not come here on my own but one of my girlfriends likes this place so I am down when she wants company! *Their parking is terrible so be ready to park on the small side street by this place. read more

Agree with everybody on the planet that it is very refreshing to find a place that has both sushi and Japanese food on their menu. Why do you need Kome? Because these are the guys who founded Sushi A Go Go food trailers and then closed up the trailer(s) to open Kome. Kome isn't as fancy as Uchiko but the sushi is just as fresh. Their lunch menu is really affordable and fantastic. You get a cup of the clear broth with your lunch items. I am really happy to find an easy in, easy out sort of laid back place to eat Japanese food. The place is on the smaller side though so as the popularity continues to grow (Bon Appetit magazine's May 2012 issue named Kome in their list of America's Best New Sushi restaurants) there may be a longer wait. LUNCH REVIEW: We celebrated a co-workers birthday here for lunch and dined in their small private dining room. I didn't know they were open for lunch nor did I know about their great lunch specials. Of course parking is just as much of a challenge during lunch as it is for dinner since they have such a small lot. I ordered the Yakiniku Kushi (hanger steak skewers with yakiniku sauce): It came served with salad, clear soup, rice and Japanese pickles for $8.50. The hanger steak skewers with onions had amazing flavor/seasoning and were tender but, charred on the outside. The yakiniku sauce (which I hadn't had before) was equally as good and complemented the meat and onion well. The rice was traditional sticky rice and steamed to perfection. The clear soup was just ok and nothing to write home about. The Japanese pickles though oh wow those pickles. I would come here just to order this again. I am impressed that a place that is so expensive for dinner has affordable and more delicious options at lunch. Hands down one of the better and least expensive lunches that I have had in Austin! read more

Ooo we were so excited to have omakase and attending this restaurant again. You can definitely set your own price and the server and chef work with you. We set ours at $30 and got a few izakaya items, which were perfect. To make this update short, we had a few items: Salmon onigiri: so good! Almost like sticky rice, but a bit crisped and with cooked salmon on top. Grilled squid: delicious. A bit chewy as normal, but good change of pace with other omakase items. Wasabi tako (octopus) with quail egg: oh gosh, the fresh wasabi was good but it was potent. I didn't love it or agree with it, but it really made it a true omakase experience. Wagyu beef nigiri: I didn't eat this but the boy said it was so good, so tender, it just fell apart in his mouth and he didn't feel like it tasted like much. Mackerel nigiri: a bit fishy, but fresh. I was surprised bc I don't love mackerel, but this was good. Amberjack nigiri: creamy, yes. It was so clean, it didn't have anything else in it and I liked this probably the most. Crab leg nigiri: had some roe on it and it was what it sounds like - crab. It tasted like the ocean. Really. Good, but not amazing. Salmon nigiri: this had roe and kelp on it too. Yellowtail tuna nigiri: this was topped with some cooked tuna which really overpowered the actual fresh fish. Good, but interesting. I prefer the cleaner fish and rice nigiri. Avocado tuna tataki with quail egg: A walk together roll: unagi topped roll with tuna, hamachi and salmon. It looked super sauced but it wasn't too bad. The eel didn't feel fresh bc it tasted like its environment - fishy. But it was a decent roll! Japanese uni: OMG. Now I know why my friends LOVE Kome! I love it too. My friend Amy D. told me all about Kome when they first opened and I've been meaning to try it out ever since. Friday night, my hubby took me out for a dinner date. I told him all about Kome and we were both very excited to try a new sushi place. We got lucky and got there around 8:30. Michelle C. told me either get there early or get there late. I knew exactly why she said this! The parking lot is quite small, but we got a pretty good spot. There were a couple groups waiting outside so I was worried whether we would get a table or not. We put our name down and barely waited for 10 minutes before we got seated. SCORE!!! I even got to meet another foodie friend, Ken (@deviousinstinct). Such a small foodie world. I figured Kome was where I would see a ton of my foodie friends =) We had two waitresses, they were both awesome. Kathleen was our main waitress, unfortunately I didn't catch the other waitress's name. =( Kathleen was AMAZING. She was sweet and helpful because my boyfriend and I were a little indecisive. She noticed I was taking pictures and asked me if I worked at a magazine or shot photos professionally. I giggled and told her "noooo, I wish I was. I'm a food blogger." I haven't blogged in so long and I wanted Kome to be one of my first blog posts in over 4 months. We had great mini-convos with Kathleen and we really enjoyed her company. For apps we ordered: Miso soup - Loved the onions in here! Yakiniku-kushi (beef skewers) - So juicy and tender! Age dashi tofu - I love how the benito flakes move! It's so cool!! The tofu was amazing. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. For dinner: Endo in NY roll (recommended by Michelle C.) - Very different, but a good different. It was like a spring roll with fish sauce (nuoc mam w/ Thai chilies). Crunchy Dynamite roll - The tuna was so fresh and had just the right amount of kick to it. Rock and Roll roll - This was my FAVORITE roll. The eel sauce was sweet and salty. YUM! Tarantula roll - This roll was saucy and HUGE. It was my hubby's favorite. I liked it too, it was just hard to take it all in with one bite lol. After all this food, my hubs was still a little hungry so Kathleen helped us decide on one more roll. It was a simple roll with yellowtail, tuna, and salmon (I think lol) and it was good. I usually don't like super raw rolls, but this was really good and fresh. An excellent spot for a weekday lunch with one or two friends, but I don't recommend bringing more than that if you ever want to get a table. Highly recommend the spicy tonkotsu ramen. It might not be the ridiculously gourmet, artisan ramen that people rave about on Food Channel, but it is some seriously solid stuff, and will absolutely fill you up. Highly recommend the spicy tonkotsu ramen. It's the most loaded bowl of ramen I've ever seen. As far as environment goes, the staff is more aligned to the your Austin hipster (e.g. tattoos and innovative piercings), and less your traditional Japanese prim and proper waiter. Really no problems here - just don't expect anybody to speak in Japanese. It's also a pretty small space, so it can get kinda loud in there. I've not been to the sushi bar yet, but I've only ever heard good things about it. Definitely want to try it next! read more

Los Angeles grade sushi with an Austin flare. I'll say it... I'm not from Austin originally (haters, commence hating). Anyhow, common logic would suggest that finding fresh fish in central Texas, especially sushi grade, means paying through the nose for it *cough* Uchi *cough* but this... this place... really has something special going on. A small unassuming building located just north of downtown boasts a very forward-thinking menu. Fun fact: Kome is the parent restaurant to Daruma Ramen (also delicious) and shares a similar cozy and intimate dining room. The experience all around was excellent, from the server's educated recommendations to the manager bringing out our food and giving us some great tips on how to approach certain dishes. A good tell of freshness and quality for sushi is ordering Uni (sea urchin) because it is really easy to F@$! it up. I'm happy to report that Uni was not only on the menu, it was terrific. They also had Toro Tuna smoked with cherry wood in a mason jar! Now that's thinking outside of the bento box. See what I did there? I made a dad joke. The thing I really love about this place is that the majority of the dishes are, for lack of a better term, 'Tapas' style. Small enough portions at a very reasonable price-point to try a variety of dishes and still walk away with money in your wallet for a cocktail after dinner not to mention room for dessert. When my head hits the pillow at night these days, I no longer toss and turn wondering if I'll ever find an affordable and delicious sushi spot in Austin. Great atmosphere alongside great sushi. When you walk in you're greeted by friendly hosts, and a welcoming atmosphere. While their regular menu is on the typical price range for sushi, their selection is fantastic. From raw fish and sushi rolls, to some more western dishes everything appears to be of high quality. I went for happy hour, which they have a special menu for. Discounted items, like sushi rolls ($4-6), are the way to go for happy hour. I got the crunchy dynamite roll, which has spicy tuna, avocado, sesame seeds, and tempura flakes. The rice was fairly sticky and not dry. The spicy tuna had a wonderful texture that added to the sticky rice. This is a roll that doesn't need any soy sauce to help. I cannot speak to their regular menu, but their happy hour menu is definitely a great way to try out a top tier sushi restaurant. read more

Went for dinner. It was great. The miso soup was fantastic. The tempera sushi was probably my favorite thing, although without a doubt, everything was fantastic. Really wanted to try the dessert, but they ran out by the time we ordered it! It was a green tea parfait if I remember correctly and heard people raving about it. You can also order a whole grilled squid, which looked awesome! The waitress told us to come for lunch and that it was quite different from dinner. Can't wait to check it out. Simple decor. After waiting about 30 minutes in all to order, we ordered the Crunchy Dynamite Roll, Yoshizo Roll, Austin Roll, and the Love for Sale Roll. Plenty of people have reviewed these dishes, so let me talk about my experience. Out of the many sushi places I have ventured to in my lifetime, I have NEVER heard of any restaurant charging for eel sauce. However, that was the case at Kome. When I asked our waitress for a small cup of it to go with my sushi as an alternative to soy sauce, she says it would cost me a dollar! ...WHAT After that, I just ate my sushi and tried to have a good time. I am a sushi lover and that's a known fact. This place offers some of the best, fresh sushi I have ever had. We started off with some sake so we were feeling pretty good when our server came to take our order. We ordered some edamame, miso soup, some sashimi and a couple rolls. We were then given hot towels. Now, I don't know about everyone else, but I thought the towels were for washing / cleaning your hands. As it turns out, it is to be used to clean your face. I know, weird. But it was a cool little fact to learn. You can still use it to wash your hands as that is part of the Japanese culture. Everything came out well paced and we were able to enjoy our meal and our company without being interrupted. The sushi was out of sight. So fresh and the flavors complimented each other so well. They gave us a free dessert since I checked in on Yelp and their ice cream machine was down. What a nice gesture! Here, it's so fresh & buttery. 2 orders of these were definitely not enough.. & the way it was cut & presented was pretty! - Takoyaki (5/5): Goodness, one of the smoothest, creamiest, filling octopus balls I've ever eaten. Ramen. That's the reason why everyone is talking about this place. Austin doesn't have many good ramen places. Musashino is probably the only other ramen place in Austin. The ramen here is pretty good. But I would rate it probably a 7 or 8 compared to ramen I've had in the West and East coast. Shinsengumi out in California is probably my top ramen place. But back to Kome. I've tried all 3 ramen. I would rate my favorite as shoyu, then tonkotsu, then miso. I'm usually a big fan of miso based ramen, but it just doesn't quiet taste like traditional miso broth. Tonkotsu is great, good flavor. But the milkiness got to me after eating it. It just feels a little heavy. The soy based seemed like the most traditional type of ramen I've had every where else. All three have a generous portion of noodles, meat, veggies, and other goodies. I also tried the udon here which wasn't bad. As I continued to eat it, the only issue I had was that it was too sweet. The culprits turned out to be the tofu skin and the egg. If the sweetness was just toned down a bit, it would have been perfect. I do like the seaweed that was in it. We just got back from trying their dinner menu. On foursquare, everyone raved about the fried squid, ika-yaki. We had to try it and...it was a little sub-par. Me being asian, there was nothing special about this squid dish..you can get this at any authentic chinese restaurant. The surprise dish for me was the iidako kushi-yaki. This was small octopus on skewers. It was a great bite size and had a underlining sweetness to it. It was great. We also had a variety of sushi which was great. It's on par with Sushi Sake. Overall, a great new sushi place. Go early though. Lunch and dinner always get packed so try to avoid the lines. And the parking lot is small so you wanna go early for a spot too. read more

So I was disappointed they didn't serve ramen at dinnertime. I have heard they are known for their ramen among other items but I thought to myself "I'm here and I want to try Kome out." I must say this is the best Japanese restaurant I've been in Austin. I just came back from Los Angeles where there are plenty of great Japanese restaurants to choose. Their dinner is Izakaya Style meaning you can order a couple of dishes over a period of time. I didn't order my items all at once. Sitting at the sushi bar and I started off - Komé Salad - Daikon and spinach salad, dried baby anchovy, puffed rice, sesame dressing. It was fresh and I wish I had more of it. Yoshizo Roll - shrimp tempura, unagi, cream cheese, sesame seeds. They made the rolls big and it fell apart. It's okay. It was good. Chicken Kara-Agé - Japanese-style fried chicken thigh meat. The meat is not dry and they come in small bites with mayo based dip. Korokke - Panko fried mashed potato croquettes which really hit the spot. Damn I only ordered four items. Delicious Japanese ramen and udon for lunch - I recommend getting the Tonkotsu Ramen (pork-broth ramen, pork belly & all the typical ramen fixins) or the kayaku udon (comes with a bit more than their basic udon)! Decent sushi and rolls - my favorite is probably the Alone Together roll (unagi, tuna, salmon, hamachi, Go-Go sauce, eel sauce, & tempura flakes). You also must try their sake cheesecake and their various mochi desserts! Downside: super packed during peak times and also pretty expensive. I love all things noodle. But I love ramen the most. A co-worker mentioned this place had great ramen. So I had to check it out. I order the Miso Ramen. It was goooood. I love the pickled mustard green and pork. The broth was a bit on the salty side for me. And this is from someone who used to eat salted dried plums like they were peanuts. But OMG, the mango avocado rolls!!! They are such an intriguing and delicious dish. I love mango and I love avocado. Put them together, the sushi is a marriage made in heaven. Simply put: some of the best sush I have ever had. I began to feel the sushi crave at 4:30 pm on a Saturday and figured I would try Komé after a previous failed attempt (place was packed at 9pm on a Tuesday). At 4:50, myself and a line of sushi enthusiasts prepared ourselves for the 5 pm dinner opening. Walking into this well decorated, large dining area and being seated center stage at the sushi bar, I could fee the hype of Komé become reality. This was all the more intensified by the line of Japanesse sushi chefs greeting every single guest being seated. By 5:10, the resturant was 90% capacity. By 5:30, there was a 30-45 min wait. 1st course: King salmon, fatty yellow tail, Japanesse eel, and Mackerel; 5/5. The quality of the fish was outstadning. Watching the chefs methodically pat the rice under each slab of fish reminded me of the seasoned Jiro preparing his nigiri on the Netflix documentary. Sounds corny but it is apparent these guys have their method down. They even hunched over the bar to perfect their craft. The depth of flavors was mind blowing. 2nd course: Surf and Turf; 6/5... completely outstanding. I will say that I was skeptical of the waiters recomendation on this one as I've never really been a fan of 'Americanized' sushi but holy smokes, this roll was good. Incredibly light despite having both temura shrimp and flank steak. Definetly a contemporary put together, however, the flavors blended into a delicate continum of flavor; this roll felt as if it was a traditional recipe at heart. 3rd course: Tora-taku (fatty bluefin tuna); 5/5. Quality fish, quality roll. Very simple and as good as it gets. 4th course: Weekend special Pork belly steamed bun; 5/5. Delicious. Soft. Moist. Not too greasy/fatty. The sweet potatos and dinosaur kale gave each bite a layor of flavors that complimented each other in the most exceptionable way. This plate leads me to believe that Komé's hot food is equally as well thoughout as their sushi menu. Best bun I have ever had (I say this as a bun enthusiast) Overall, Komé exemplies quality sushi. The hot menu appears to complement the cold in a 'yang' like fashion. A friend asked me to articulate a summary of my experience at Komé and this is what i ended with: Ingenuity and craftsmanship are flawless - trendy yet clean. Perfect combination of urban trend and Japanesse culinary tradition. It's like if David Bowie were to meet Pink Floyd, and they go have drinks with Neil Young and somehow a song resulted - Komé would be that song. read more

I'd like to say I was blown away- oh but on the contrary. My first stop the restrooms- nice and clean. Good we'll stay and eat here. Came out soaking wet- why you ask. Well let's talk about the facet and sink in the first RR on the left. My word. I lifted the spout with a little too much force and bam- water splashed against the sink and came at me like a water fall. WTh! The only thing good I have to say about that- thank the heaves it wasn't hot water.. Dredged out to tell my story to the date.... It's a 30 minute wait aaaaand they close in 30 mins. He wanted sushi- he'd never been to Kome. I wanted ramen (little did i know it was only a lunch menu item) so we waited. Mind you they offered for us to wait. Okay. I don't feel so bad. Get to the cute little table blocking the emergency exit- waiting -waiting -waiting- no service in sight. Flag someone down.. waiting, waiting, waiting. Eureka! Finally some attention. Sputter out all items we'd like- because duh- waited- know what we want already. My attempt to ask the server a couple of questions about menu items, only turned into- me basically being talked out of ordering anything more, Way to go chief. I'd rather not comment on the rolls that were ordered. I'd like to forget I ever tasted that mess. Took two bites and could not endure the rest. Agédashi- Tofu- on point! Super delicious! Had I only had this-I'd of been one happy patron. Sashimi Tako- it okay. I've had better- fresher- more succulent pieces. Never again. Hotate Carpaccio- again lack luster and a bit sweet. **Props for having Ashai on draft, umum good. In conclusion- I'll never be that person-ever -again who goes near closing time. Yes. Totally. OMG. Super happy fun time. I'm so glad I finally got to try Kome. I have had it bookmarked since it won the Austin Chronicle Critic's Choice for best lunch value or something like that. And I have to say, I wasn't disappointed at all. My boyfriend and I had a hard time deciding, because even though I read that the Teishoku was amazing, we were seated at the sushi bar and we wanted it all. Thusly, we tried it all. Everything we had was delightful. Service, food, and more. A large pot of green tea was $8. Then we ordered a couple of rolls: the alone together (suggested by another Yelper) and the spooky roll (spicy tuna no mayo). Both were delicious but the former was out of this world. Would totally order again. We also noticed that the woman next to us was having a spider roll; the plan is to order it next time. We also split the Kara-age Teishoku, Japanese-style fried chicken. For $8, you get the chicken, a mayo dipping sauce, japanese pickles, a side salad with cucumbers-radishes-tomatoes, clear-broth soup, and steamed rice. Wowza. What a deal! This was just the thing I read about in the Chronicle, and it was spot on. We could hardly finish it, but what we did eat was delicious. And I would recommend sharing one of those lunch plates along with a sushi roll. It's the best of both worlds. We saw someone getting a green tea ice cream thing, too. It look amaze-balls. Want to taste in the future. All in all, our lunch was not that cheap; $40 before tip. But that's because we went crazy and went for all of it (NO REGRETS). Based on reviews and a friends recommendation I came here for the Tonkotsu Ramen. It was definitely packed with stuff and filling. It didn't really resemble any of the Tonkotsu I had on my recent month long trip to Japan. The broth isn't rich enough and the ration of stuff to broth is too high. A cute little house serving up bold Japanese flavors! Came on a Tuesday afternoon around 1pm and was immediately seated. Our waitress was so sweet and explained the menu items clearly. We started with the karage Japanese fried chicken (succulent chicken nuggets crisp with light breading, reminded me of Taiwanese fried chicken) and the mixed veggie tempura (the most unique tempura I've ever had, it had zucchini, sweet potato, and carrot sliced up, coated in batter, then fried together into a "birds nest" - kinda difficult to eat but visually very appealing; the tempura sauce had a ton of ginger in it). For our entrees we sampled the "Alone Together" roll and the "Endo in NY" roll. The Alone Together hit the spot perfectly since I was in the mood for some serious sashimi - it was creamy and rich from the raw salmon, savory and saucy from the eel topping, and crunchy from the bits of fried batter tossed across the top. The Endo in NY was a play on a Thai style spring roll, with raw salmon, shredded carrot, basil, and roe wrapped up in a rice paper skin, served with a Thai chili dipping sauce. The Endo in NY was refreshing to eat, but the veggies completely overwhelmed the salmon...it wasn't worth the hefty price tag given how light of a roll it was and I wouldn't re-order it, but the twist on a traditional dish was definitely appreciated :) The service was excellent and our food came out extremely quickly; we were in and out of the restaurant in less than 40 minutes. Parking lot was tiny but the nearby neighborhood streets had lots of spots. Would definitely return, esp for their other specialty rolls! read more

I want to give them 10 stars for their ramen and sushi, but 5 is the max. I hate that it is so hot and I will be further away from them for lunch, but I have enjoyed them! Pros: - Super friendly staff - They got out all the dishes quite fast, especially considering it was packed the night that we went - Good food :D Not everything was *amazing*, but it was definitely all very good. We had: karaage (crispy outside, moist inside...yum!) sunomono (I'd have liked it if it were a little more vinegar-y) monkfish liver (good) [beef] yakiniku (tender and tasty) the love for sale roll (good, but man those pieces were big... big sushi/roll pieces are always annoying because they make it impossible to eat in one bite the way you're supposed to) hamachi nigiri (mmm fresh fish) grilled whole squid (my favorite. This was so freaking delicious... smokey and sweet, just enough chew without being stringy or tough, caramelized sauce on the outside. I could eat that over and over again) Cons: - It's a small space, but it's still so uncomfortably loud when it's full. Doesn't seem to be a good space to have dinner with someone you actually intend on having a conversation with. Omg!! Seriously these were the words that came out of my mouth when I tried the pork belly ramen. They give you tons of noodles the broth is very flavorful. This is the best Ramen in Austin finally a place that reminds me of my old home. I'm so happy to have ventured off and tried a new spot. I will await more visits here as the weather cools down. Okay, here we go... Super-duper excited to go to this place... because not only do I love sushi, I kept getting people telling me to go, including our own Errol M. So, it's my last week in Austin before I head off to grad school, Kome here I come! First: Camembert Tempura. It was pretty good - but maybe it was built up a little too much or something, because I wouldn't need to have that again. The beef carpaccio, on the other hand, was to die for. So, so good. The Kome Viche was quite delicious, but not great. As far as the rolls that we had - I can't say that I remember the names... and since they don't publish the sushi menu, I can't help you. I would definitely say that there were some winners and losers - but you're just going to have to figure it out for yourself; I highly suggest that you do. Sake? Yes, please. We had a couple different ones, the whooping crane, or something like that was the better of the two (nice and cloudy). Second to last one on the menu... The ambiance was nice... and the place was pretty empty earlier in the evening, but filled up as the night went on (on a Wednesday night). read more

Loved this spot. Great ambiance, amazing service, and great drinks and food. Came here during HH (5-6PM) with a friend. Seated at a small table. This place gets packed quick- I suggest getting here right at 5 or shortly after. Great HH prices. Our server was so attentive to our table and the dietary restrictions. Great vegan options. The seaweed salad, veggie rolls, and sweet potatoes were so delicious and light! I ordered a few of the grapefruit HH drinks. Very refreshing and decently strong! This place is the bee's knees! I've gone here three times now, and it does NOT disappoint! The beef curry with pork katsu is only available during lunch, buy man is it worth it! The curry flavor was absolutely perfect with the pork katsu. The portions were extremely generous as well! The Tenzaru was p top notch (also only available during lunch). It's a cold dipping noodle with a two pieces of shrimp tempura. If you've been to daito, then the dipping sauce here is very similar to the sauce in the bukkake udon. This dish was very refreshing yet filling. As for their sushi, the salmon box was p good. It's basically just a salmon sushi piece, but they stuff krab meat inside the sushi rice! P good. After hearing overwhelming praise for Ramen Tatsu-ya (which I still have yet to try), I was convinced by a few people that Komé had better ramen. So for my final meal while visiting Austin, we decided to try Komé. There were very few patrons when we arrived at 11:30am on a Sunday, but by noon the entire restaurant was completely packed. Nonetheless, the service was good and my glass of water was always full. Now, back to the ramen. Unfortunately, the tonkotsu ramen was nothing to write home about. Visually, it was appealing and loaded with almost too many toppings. But it lacked the creamy hearty broth I crave for in tonkotsu ramen. On a separate note though, the chicken karaage was enjoyable and the cold soba dipping sauce was flavorful. I didn't have the opportunity to try any of the sushi/sashimi so I wouldn't completely dismiss coming back to try some other dishes. P.S. Beware of the restroom faucet. You might just come out looking like you've gone for a swim. read more

Kome is definitely my hubby and I's to go sushi place if we want quality sushi but don't want to spend our mortgage on a dinner meal. I've also taken my dad here a couple of times and he was very impressed. We always get their blue fin tuna here, and their duck foie gras is my absolute favorite thing on the menu. Their cooked section is also amazing, Japanese pancake and their squid is one of my favorite. Their salmon collar is also super tender and flavorful. Overall, just come here multiple times and try everything on the menu. You won't be disappointed. read more

Having been a fan of Sushi-a-go-go, I eagerly looked forward to visiting this restaurant. A friend had made a group reservation for Saturday night at 8 PM, and we were promptly seated in an intimate dining room upon arrival. My friend and I decided to order a few dishes to try their various offerings. We decided on the following: 1) Vegetable Croquette (panko fried mashed potato): a perfect treat on a cold winter's night; delicately fried with a slight crispy goodness 2) Takoyaki (octopus balls): not too chewy and just the right texture; having tried this street food in Japan, this is spot on! 3) Kome Chazuke: flavorful and delicious, especially with the fish broth; good amount of salmon 4) Sunshine Roll: one of Sushi-a-go-go's originals, you can't go wrong with salmon and avocado 5) Along Together Roll: yellowtail, salmon, and tuna team up to make this roll AMAZING (ate every piece even though I was already full); also came with 8 thick pieces Overall, every dish boasted fresh ingredients and pleased my palate, but the real winner of the night was the Alone Together Roll. Other things of note: waitress was helpful and answered our questions regarding the menu, our water glasses were always filled, clean restroom, reasonable portions for a Japanese restaurant. Prices are a little on the high end but not as expensive as Uchi. Between the two of us, the bill came out to be $23/person. We recently came here again. We brought others with us. We reserved the party room as well. First of all, the room is a bit tight, so don't think it can accommodate more than 8 people. We quickly sat down since they close at 3 pm. They are firm on their kitchen closing at that time as well. We started to order, without the paper because we knew it was that good. We started off with all of the toros, then squid, octopus, then botan-ebi, and so on. We continued to order. Too many to list here. It's all worth it! Just go in, sit, and eat! A measure to see how good this place is. The food is good, but not worth the price. Came with a friend and ordered 4 things for dinner (these are small portions meant to be shared among your party). Toro Taku Maki (thin sushi) - $10/6 pcs. Could only taste the rice and seaweed for the most part, I didn't taste much of the fish. The biggest disappointment by far. Honestly, if it wasn't for this, I would rate this place higher. Dynamite Chicken - $5.50/5 pcs. Spicy and crispy wings! These were good, although the sauce is something you could probably pick up next time at the grocery store (not that it wasn't good, but it did taste familiar). Age Dashi Tofu - $4/3pcs. Soft fried tofu (not crispy though, as it sits in a bowl of what I think was miso). Tip: Go for the bottom piece first, and while you're eating that, let the top piece soak in the miso. The tofu gains all of its flavor from it! Kome Fries - $4/bowl. The fries are well seasoned and come with this wonderful sauce for dipping that sort of tastes like it has wasabi mixed in. I'm not a fan of wasabi, but damn it if I didn't like the sauce. The place was pretty busy when I went, but it only took a few minutes to be seated. Surprisingly, my party of 2 was seated at a table for 4, despite mentioning that we would be happy to sit at the bar. I can't help but wonder if that caused some larger party to wait longer. Overall, I was happy with the food and service, but the price didn't quite match it (that sushi was REALLY disappointing). My inner explorer was put in the closet tonight and I stuck with my traditional tastes that I favor. Wow, we're they blown away. I couldn't stop ordering the seared salmon with miso nigiri. Warm rice, smokey flavor with swirling textures, temperatures and flavors. Don't forget your "finisher" before dessert. The chefs favorite is kome chazuke. A friend insisted on the Camembert tempura- it's rich, it's mysterious, and everything you'd want in a man. This sushi restaurant is super popular, but I was not a fan at all. The space itself is pretty nice and definitely does get crowded since seating is super close to each other. Atmosphere is loud when it's busy but chill during the day. When you get seated to a table, they give you a menu and pencil and choose what you want which is pretty cool. As for the foods, I wouldn't recommend the rolls nor some of the appetizers: Tarantula roll: 1/5 - What is this? it had carrots, lettuce, what? This isn't sushi. Spooky: 3/5 - Only because it had raw salmon and raw tuna. Alone together: 3/5 - It was okay! I liked the sauce. Ebi fry (panko tempura shrimp): 2/5 - What kind of shrimp tempura is this?! the batter wasn't even cooked all the way through. Camembert cheese: 1/5 - I wasn't a fan of the Brie cheese but If you are you'd probably enjoy this. Hamachi Nigiri: 5/5 - SO FRESH, SO GOOD. Salmon Nigiri: 5/5 - ^ Scallop Nigiri?: 2/5 - I wasn't a fan... If you come here, I recommend all the raw goods like sashimi, nigiri and chirashi.
