Service is amazing-- our waiter really took the time with us even though he clearly had a lot of tables. As far as the food, the duck is a no brainer. Wow! I was blown away by Komodo. Although you might be skeptical of any place that seems so "trendy," Komodo has definitely earned its reputation. The dining room is huge, and we were lucky enough to get to sit outside on the terrace--which was even bigger! There are multiple levels outside, and it almost feels like you're eating in the treetops. I will say the fans were at times difficult because it had our hair going wild, but the alternative is being super hot, so I'll take it! Our waiter Rafael was so friendly and helpful, always eager to chat and give tips--we felt like we had our own waiters' undivided attention although it was definitely super busy. As far as food goes, The Pikachu drink was a tasty tequila cocktail but I definitely mostly ordered it for the glass the edamame was a tasty course to start out with, but the main event, the Peking duck, was SO good. It was rich and flavorful and the accompanying sauce was a nice complement. The sea bass was also super tasty--it cut like butter and melts in your mouth. The wagyu fried rice was the sleeper hit of the evening--not to be overlooked. For dessert we had ice cream mochi which was a nice way to end the meal. Komodo was not quite five stars but definitely more than four. The ambiance was good, it was busy, kind of loud, but good. The biggest downside to sitting in the outside portion was the overwhelming weed smell, presumably from the street and out of the restaurant's control. If you're bothered by that, I'd recommend requesting to sit inside. The service was solid. Not amazing, but above average. I had the szechuan old fashioned to drink, it didn't overly impress, but it was good. To eat I had the ribs, honey truffle salmon sashimi, wagyu tacos, wagyu beef dumplings, and the spicy bluefin tuna maki. They were all equally incredible. I recommend all of them. For dessert, I had the mochi, it was excellent. Overall I'd say Komodo is worth the price. I recommend being willing to splurge and try a variety. Came here on my anniversary with my girlfriend and immediately we were astonished by how vibrant the entrance was in the front. There's a window where you can see the window of the Peking ducks being hung up ready to be cut and severed! Drinks: we got 4 different cocktails and we were not disappointed with the quality and the amount of alcohol they put into their drinks. Was not disappointed by their cocktails at all! Truffle honey salmon (5/5): this came with fresh salmon, truffle and a little bit green onions marinated in their yuzu honey sauce. The salmon just melts in your mouth when you bite into it, perfect for an appetizer to start your meal. Chu Toro Special (5/5): it came with 2 pcs of nigiri of blue fish tuna with caviar. I'm usually not a big fan of caviar, but after eating this tonight it made me rethink my taste for caviar! Spicy Bluefin Tuna Roll (4/5): this roll usually comes with avocado but they were nice enough to accommodate to my allergy with cucumbers! The spicy bluefin was fresh but we thought it had little of oceanic taste to their fish! Garlic king crab Lo Mien (4/5): although we felt like the entree didn't come with enough king crab, the noodles had so much flavor it almost made up for the lack of protein. Don't waste your money here. Despite really wanting to love it, the experience was quite awful and the food was just ok. I almost never leave a bad review, but this was truly a stand-out terrible dining experience. We made a 9PM reservation and weren't seated until 10PM. The hostesses were extremely rude as well. They seemed completely bored and irritated when we checked in. They told us to wait to the side and that they would find us when our table was ready. After about 45 minutes of waiting and not hearing anything, I checked in with one of the hostesses who was walking by. She snapped at me before I could even finish my question. We sat down and ordered a cocktail, which I'll hand it to them, was very very good. But the food is absurdly expensive for the quality and amount. We got a few things, but after a $200 bill for two people we were still hungry and disheartened from the whole experience. In comparison to other restaurants of its caliber like majordomo in LA, momofuku, and Nobu (I've tried the LV, Santa Monica, and Newport Beach locations) I thought Komodo was just okay. Overall I would rate the restaurant 3.5/5 But I will say I was extremely impressed with the service and efficiency of the restaurant. Our server Aily was attentive, quick, and frequently checked in with us to ensure we had everything we needed. Of course we had to try the Peking duck because it is definitely what they're known for and while we thought it was good only because of how crispy the skin was I think it's priced a bit high for this dish. But thats because I grew up in OC/LA and I've been eating Peking duck my entire life. But since it's Miami I guess that's the expected price. The rest of the menu items were just average or forgetful. The restaurant itself is gorgeous though and I wish we could've been seated in the back patio because it's so beautiful but it was extremely humid and raining so only the indoor seating was available. So in Miami, we have this thing called Miami spice, which is a discounted menu throughout the month of September and normally higher end restaurants what participate and have their popular plates on a limited discounted menu. I went to try Komodo with some friends of mine, and it was great! Disclaimer we did order some items off the Miami spice menu. I don't really remember the names of the dishes, but if you look at the pictures I'm sure the servers could help! We had the crispy rice and salmon, which was delicious. I normally don't eat raw fish, but the plate with six pieces of raw fish melted in my mouth, it was buttery smooth and I truly enjoyed, I surprised myself. For starters we got - dumplings , shishito peppers, and ribs - they all were delicious but the ribs were my personal fav. For entrees we Korean chicken , steak , salmon and lo mein. It was large enough for all 4 of us (if your only meal I would still say large enough for 2-3 people to eat). The duck was cooked to perfection. We were effectively dining in a night club - the music was fabulous but loud. There were many tables celebrating birthdays and other special occasions. We enjoyed the food but we were clearly paying a premium to enjoy it in such beautiful surroundings. In the middle of dinner, there was a seemingly spontaneous and fun dragon dance with smoke bellowing out in front. It was a fun spectacle.
