I have a passive goal to eat at all the Disney restaurants there are. I don't go out of my way to purposefully seek them out, but if I'm flipping through reservations, and I see a new one, I knab it. That's what happened here. I needed a place to eat at before fireworks, and this place crossed my path. So I made the reservations, showed up, and let the show begin. First of all, the restaurant is beautiful. It's right there in the main lobby of the Polynesian resort, and it's exterior is like a Hawaiian, wavy kind of thing with giant, blue arches. I don't know, but it was neat to look at. Our extremely friendly server came over and gave us a little preamble, and then we started checking out the menu. Before our app came out, we got surprise bread! Four, quaint little rolls with some butter on the side. Nothing fancy, but a very nice, warm start for our starving bellies. For our app, we did order the Seafood Pu Pu Platter (Crispy Calamari, Rock Shrimp, Fish). This was a quaint little dish. Calamari was crispy, and there were plenty of tentacles, which I love. The rock shimp, if they were rock shrimp, were wasted in this format. You fry them, you destroy what's special about them. Shame. And it's also pretty funny that they say 'fish.' Like, what kind of fish? I'll never know. Overall, though, tasty, crunchy, a good app. For my entree, I got the Polly Lolly Roll (Fried Soft-Shell Crab, Shrimp Tempura, Crawfish Tails, Grilled Asparagus, Chives, Spicy Mayonnaise). First of all, soft-shell crab is one of the best eats on the planet. So getting it in a sushi roll was incredible. You just don't see that very often. Bravo. Second of all, the crawfish tails and the spicy mayo stepping in for a remoulade really made this a nice, Cajun-flared sushi roll. Not sure what the random shrimp was doing on top, presentation I reckon, but this was overall very nice. I also got my hands on the Kona-braised Short Rib (Braised Short Rib, Kona Coffee-Mocha Sauce, Creamy Mashed Potatoes, Broccolini). Oooh this was good. The short rib is something that all Disney restaurants have down to a science. Fall-apart, richly sauced, very good short rib. That sauce was surprisingly delicious. Coffee-Mocha? Yes, please. I will now take a pause to please plead with all the restaurants in all the world. Stop serving broccolini. It is not good. I'm sure it is good to some people, but those people will have to agree that there Are better vegetables out there that can easily be substituted. Come on. I finished up the meal with something I can't find on the menu anymore. I think it was a 50th anniversary special. It was a Massive hunk of sheet pan bread pudding with a scoop of vanilla on top and a salted caramel served on the side. Ooey, gooey, decadent, the best part of the meal. Overall, this place was nice. If you're on a quest to eat at all the Disney places, like I am, this place won't be one to disappoint you. read more

(March 2025) Earlier tonight, my wife and I finally made it in during her birthday trip after canceling on July and December 2024. We started with the soft and warm Hawaiian rolls, which came with butter. Afterwards, I ordered the glazed chicken wings ($15) and my wife got the Kona braised short rib ($40), which she ordered with broccoli (in place of the bok choy). The food was amazing! We also drank unsweetened ice tea ($4.99), which was a little too murky and too strong. It didn't help that the restaurant uses paper straws which disintegrates into the tea. Unfortunately, the restaurant doesn't offer free desserts for birthdays, which knocks down a star. However, we still had to try the pineapple coconut bread pudding with a side of vanilla ice cream ($13). All in all, we recommend Kona Cafe and hope to be back someday. read more

We had a lovely meal at Kona. The drinks were cool, refreshing and tasty. The food was tasty and fresh. My turkey bang me was great, but it definitely had some heat to it. The airline chicken was hot and well seasoned. The dessert was ok, not my cup of tea, but my husband loved it. Mohammed took great care of us. This place gets packed for dinner so make sure you make your reservations early, especially if you have a large party. It's best to make a reservation here being that the wait can be really long if you don't especially during the summer. Originally had a reservation at Ohana but didn't feel like eating dinner at 9:40 pm. Ambiance: has a relaxed island feel to it, makes sense since it's in the Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. Food was okay. My husband got the Kona Braised Short Rib and I got the New York Strip. Loved that my steak was done exactly as I asked for (medium). The Kona Cafe is located at the Disney Polynesian Village Resort. My friend and I came here for dinner after a long day at Magic Kingdom. Oddly we didn't eat that much at the park so by the time we came to Kona Cafe I was already hangry lol. They provide Hawaiian rolls and butter upon seating which is nice. I ordered the Big Kahuna Burger which is pastrami, corned beef, pepper jack, mustard aioli on a brioche bun. It tasted pretty good. My friend order a few sushi rolls which she enjoyed. For dessert we shared the S'Mores shooter which was the perfect size. All in all, a good choice for dinner at Disney World. read more

My family and I have been starting our Magic Kingdom days with a big breakfast at the Kona Cafe for the past 20 years! What's not to love about their awesome Polynesian and Hawaiian inspired menu? I have tried this place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but recommend it best for breakfast. During our most recent visit we both ordered the Tonga Toast, which is what they're known for. It's banana-stuffed french toast rolled in cinnamon sugar and comes with a side of Strawberry Compote which is out of this world delicious!! The strawberries taste so fresh and it's not overly sweet. As a note, their spiced ham is Spam, so if you're a Spam hater like me, opt for the regular ham instead. I also asked if they could do a side of two eggs for some extra protein which they were able to do, so was very happy about that! If you're a coffee drinker, you will absolutely love their coffee that comes in the press pot. It's a must get. Why I have to give it only 4 stars though is because of their menu changes post-pandemic. Bring back The Samoan, Big Kahuna, and Steak and Eggs!!! They have literally cut their breakfast menu in half and used to offer so much more. The menu is what brings diners to this restaurant because, lets be real, their interior is definitely not as captivating as other Disney restaurants (but does give you that nice lax island feel). We've had breakfast here a couple times now and it's always a great experience! We came to celebrate my sister's birthday and they made it extra special. Our waitress, Harley, was amazing! They were very considerate of allergies. Service was great and fast. We enjoyed bloody Marys, which were pretty good. I got the Tonga toast with spam. The toast was so rich and fruity and the salty spam complimented it well. My table also got the ham and cheese omelettes and they were probably our favorite item. Was my first time here, so didn't have any expectations for our meal that day. We kept it simple by ordering 2 POG juices to drink for me and my husband. The appetizers were great and our server was really nice. That's pretty much sums up anything good I have to say about Kona Cafe. For starters, we were seated at 8:15 PM for our 7:15 PM reservation. Before making reservations I had read a review on here where they writer had a similar experience and I thought to myself, "how awful, but that must be an outlier." Nope. And that hour delay included my husband checking in with the front desk several times in case they got our number wrong or somehow we missed their text that the table was ready. I don't know how long it would be if we had just kept waiting. For appetizers, we ordered the seafood coconut curry soup, the crispy pork vegetable pot stickers and a rainbow roll. They were all amazing (although $24 for a rainbow roll which goes for $12 at home (in a town that is also super expensive (Honolulu) was crazy to me). If I were to go again (which I won't because of the 1 hour delay in seating) I would just order appetizers for dinner. Because when we got to the main meal, nothing was good. I had the turkey bahn mi, which was incredible dry and just tasted like a regular turkey sandwich. My daughter had the kids' mac and cheese. She also found it too dry. In comparison, and in possibly a bad parenting move, my daughter ate her way through an 8-day Orlando theme park trip eating mac and cheese once per day. She made a list ranking them all. The mac and cheese from Kona Cafe came in dead last, losing out to 4 counter service locations and a hotel grab n go store that also offered a couple hot food items, in addition to two other sit down restaurants. My husband's burger and son's kids sushi were bland as well, although I got a kick out of my son's sushi plate having several that were Mickey-shaped. In summary, I am still dreaming about Kona Cafe's potstickers days later, but I guess I'll just always be dreaming of them because I never plan on coming back here again. In a place full of restaurants (the Polynesian Resort is on the monorail system, so even venturing to another hotel isn't that big of a deal), I only picked Kona Cafe to have an easy and chill night, and hanging out in the lobby waiting to for our table to get called was not that. Although I guess it made it easier to split up the party so that my husband could get our 3-year-old to bed when the wait for the check at the end of the night dragged on as well. read more

French Toast over the Tonga Toast! Half of my group got the Tonga toast and while it was good, it was pretty thick and dry in comparison to my delicious French toast. The French toast came with a banana caramel sauce along with a side of protein of your choice. DELICIOUS! My group was jealous how easy my dish was. Checked in for my reservation with my family. Went to the counter and it took 3 minutes before I was acknowledged with the hostesses who were just there talking until one of them looked up. The frozen ground beef is ridiculous and the gravy was stale. There was no flavoring in anything. It was a huge disappointment for an Islander who cooks this on a daily. Our server was attentive and our beverages and breakfast arrived very quickly. We ordered the Tonga toast and macadamia nut pancakes. Both were fantastic. The Tonga toast is two very thick pieces of sour dough bread encrusted with yummy cinnamon sugar encasing a creamy layer of banana. It had a bit of crunch, doughy softness and creamy banana. It didn't need anything else, but it came with a thick cut large piece of ham. It was also served with fresh strawberry "syrup" literally good enough to drink. As good as the Tonga toast is, the pancakes were even better! Three or four fluffy sweet layers of pancakes topped with pineapples and a heavenly dollop of macadamia nut butter. These come with a side of syrup and a generous, thick side of ham. You can also choose bacon or sausage. Again, the pancakes did not need syrup and we used the strawberry sauce on top of them also. I visited Kona Cafe for lunch, which seemed slower than their usual breakfast and dinner rushes. It was over 10 minutes before a nice older Asian lady noticed that my server had yet to come to my table at all. She kindly offered me a drink and even had to call my server over before I was noticed. Despite this hiccup, the cafe mocha I ordered was good. I've heard Kona Cafe being one of the best places to get coffee around Disney World, and it didn't disappoint. For my meal, I ordered the sticky wings and bao buns. Normally, I don't opt for wings, but having heard good reviews, I was happy with my choice. The bao buns were the standout for me though--super soft with a nice contrast from the crunchy pickled vegetables. For dessert, I had the pineapple coconut bread pudding. It was huge, definitely meant for sharing, and while I couldn't finish it alone, I enjoyed the soft, warm pudding complemented by vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce tying all the flavors together. I like Kona Cafe breakfast as a way to fuel up before heading into Magic Kingdom. The menu has some nice options but the star of the show is the Tonga Toast, which is is a Disney World breakfast icon. This massive piece of sourdough bread is stuffed with bananas, deep-fried, and rolled in cinnamon sugar. But what really takes it to the next level? The chilled strawberry compote. Absolute perfection. I also tried their take on a Loco Moco. While it was pretty good, it didn't quite match what I'm used to in Hawaii. If the burger patty wasn't cooked beyond well done, it would have been perfect. The bao buns were sweet and moist and filled with delicious pickled veggies and pulled pork. The potstickers were lightly fried and crispy on the outside while juicy on the inside. The sauce and seasonings were delicious. The shrimp roll had quite the kick but wasn't as plump as sushi rolls from legit sushi establishments. Nonetheless everything was delicious. Service is always good at the disney hotels and our waiter was super nice. The ambience resembles a cafeteria vibe which takes you away from the lobby essence of the poly which is the whole point of going there. The sushi are small rolls and nothing special and my husband's ramen was bland. Do yourself a favor and come for breakfast and get the tonga toast or pancakes. Kona cafe is next door to Ohana in the Polynesian Village resort. My friend loves this place for the vegan/vegetarian option, which based on the bite I took was really good. I will give a shout out that our service was amazing. Plus we were sat quickly, taken care of swiftly and our food came out surprisingly fast! With it being my first visit to Kona Cafe she recommended their most popular item the Tonga Toast. For me it was just ok, due to the "crust" of the toast being the outside structure and all of the soft banana goodness being tough to get to under the crust. The crust needs the strawberry compote and maple syrup but the middle does not. I did enjoy my Moana smoothie, better than some of the regular smoothie places but not my favorite. The price for our food wasn't bad when considering disney prices, but outside of Disney I think I would have probably sent the tonga toast back due to it not being my speed/the testure of the "crust" throwing everything else off. My friend was surprised, due to it apparently used to come with potatoes and now does not. So, for Kona café if you want to check it off of an eat every where Disney list, its great! Had a nice meal recently at the Kona Cafe at The Polynesian. This is one of the more recommended and well known restaurants at The Polynesian resort and we all enjoyed. While the prices were obviously incredibly high, which is consistent with Disney in general, both the quality of the food and the service was great. As you can see from the picture the size of the meal was not all that big, however what I think you're really paying for is the ambiance. The Polynesian resort is relaxing and a great place to rest up in the middle of a hot day while in the parks, or to stay at. So I recommend eating at Kona Cafe, but will also recommend going in knowing you'll pay a pretty penny for not a whole lot of food. read more

We have not been to Kona since 2012 and it was for lunch. We recently visited for breakfast, and it was time for an update. First this is located inside Disney Polynesian Resort. It is on the second floor of the main lobby. Thier theme across the entire resort is Polynesian, Hawaiin, island inspired. This is my favorite resort across property. There are people walking by the second floor on their way to the monorail and none of the tables are next to a window or anything. We had a reservation for 6 and were called right at our time. The Disney app has you check in when you are there, and they called us right at our reservation time. We had a nice round table, and our server came by pretty quick for our drink orders. Now the reason I chose a 4 and not a 4.5 is because half numbers do not exist. But I think what brings down the stars is the choices and selections. There are only about 6 items to choose from for breakfast. There is not a big opportunity for substitutions, for example, I do not like breakfast potatoes, I cannot substitute that for something else. If I want something different for example, grits, I have to order that as an additional side. But with that being said, I did enjoy breakfast, we all did. I ordered the egg platter which came with eggs your way, bacon, potatoes, a muffin and fruit poke. I didn't know what that was, but it is basically small, diced fruit, it had mango, pineapple and apples. The muffin was a chocolate chip coconut muffin! WOW this was fantastic, and I wish I could have ordered more of them to take home. It was that good. I asked for the eggs medium well and they were beyond fried hard. They were not very good. The bacon was crispy and crunchy and the potatoes I did not enjoy. It had a sweet flavor to it that was weird. My husband liked them and ate them. I also ordered the gouda grits. I expected these to be similar to the grits at Steakhouse 71 and I was disappointed. They had no cheese flavor they were basic grits. My husband ordered the macadamia nut pancakes which came with bacon or sausage and a pineapple glaze and macadamia nut butter. He is not a pancake fan but had a craving. They had pieces of macadamia nuts in the pancakes. He loved them and they were very good. The rest of our group ordered pancakes or the omelet. Everyone really enjoyed their meal. For drinks I wanted to get an alcohol drink but there were really only two options. We settled with normal breakfast drinks. But they did have the Kona coffee which was very good. All in all, this is a really fantastic restaurant, I wish there were a few more options but it is delicious none the less. Make a reservation, enjoy breakfast and the resort and don't forget to show your annual pass (if you have one) for a discount. read more

We were staying at The Polynesian and dined at Kona Cafe on one of our rest days. It was fairly easy to snag a reservation! This place is truly underrated in my opinion. Kona Cafe should be at the top of everyone's Disney breakfast list! We shared the Press Pot Coffee and it was delicious - my fiancé even said it was some of the best coffee he's ever had! The Polynesian Red Eye is a boozy POG Juice lover's dream - so tasty! We both ordered the infamous Tonga Toast with Spiced Ham (Spam). I'd heard a lot of hype about Tonga Toast but was a little skeptical going in. Let me just say it was one of the best breakfast dishes I've had in a long time! We ate from here probably daily during our time at PVR. As anyone will probably tell you, the coconut meatballs are incredible. At least a couple times I met someone on the monorail coming from a different resort solely for the meatballs, they're that good. And if you're staying for more than a couple days, and like to drink soda or juice, get the cup, it works out really well. Location is convenient in the pvr main building, but can get a little gridlocked with all the people. read more

Delicious food!! Visited here at the end of the day after exploring Disney World Magic Kingdom. We took the ferry to the Polynesian Village Resort for dinner because this is one of the only places we could find resos for. I will first off start by saying this hotel is AMAZING!! I really enjoyed the interior and decoration of the place, so that for me was already 5 stars. The food was good, but as expected was slightly overpriced for what the served. My favorite were the appetizers, the potstickers and chicken wings were really good and full of flavor. It wasn't super busy so we were able to check out in time to see the 9pm fireworks outside of the hotel. Overall had a magical experience and can't wait to go back! read more

We love Kona Cafe! Just about every time we stay in Orlando we get reservations for breakfast. The Polynesian resort is absolutely beautiful like all of the Disney properties. The Gouda Grits are AWESOME! I didn't take a photo with it but I recommend ordering a side order of crispy bacon to break up and drop in the grits. Today we shared the Big Kahuna Breakfast which is currently available for the 50th anniversary event Disney is hosting. It was perfect! it brought enough for 2.
