My wife ordered a half order of waffles and I ordered the breakfast special with soft scrambled eggs and smoked sausage, substituting waffles for the French toast, which I thoroughly enjoyed. They frequently top the "Yelp's Best..." lists! I got to meet the gentleman behind the business, Cal. He's sweet, humble, and has a great personality. As for the waffle and acai bowl: It was spoonful after spoonful of tasty eats. At one point, I started topping my waffle with my acai bowl. It's that brunch combination that pairs warm, crispy waffles with cold, thick, and refreshing acai smoothie toppings that makes it oh so alluring. The combination offers a contrast in textures and temperatures and textures (fruit, granola, nuts, and drizzled honey) that makes it moreish. Overly sweet toppings, nothing particularly noteworthy if you've had good waffle toppings; the waffle was kind of middle of the pack too -- rather chewy instead of a crisp exterior with a soft chew-through interior. I don't know who needs to hear this, but this is the best açaí bowl I have ever had in my life, and it is not even close. It is also the best thing I have had on my one-week trip to Hawaii. Let me start by saying I visited this place two years ago and made it my mission to come back. Since my group of nine decided to book a trip to Hawaii, this was the first thing I added to the itinerary. And again, it did not disappoint. The service is top tier. The busser saw our large group come in and asked if we wanted to sit at a table we were eyeing, then cleaned it off for us and added extra seating so all of us could fit. The cashier was also very nice, and once your order is ready, the workers explain the toppings bar so you can dress your açaí bowl however you want (coconut flakes, granola, honey, chia seeds, etc.). I got the regular açaí bowl, and again, it is the best açaí bowl I have ever had. The açaí is thick and very rich, and you can tell the blend is real açaí and the berries on top are fresh. The topping bar is a great touch because you can customize it to your liking. It is sweet but not overly sweet or artificial tasting. The restaurant is on the basement floor, accessible by escalator or elevator. Tables are first come, first serve. You order at the counter, there will likely be a line as it is popular, and they bring out you. The menus is waffles and açai bowls. They have a side of scrambled eggs and sausage. There is a side table with topping, granola, honey, chocolate chips, etc. they do not offer any alcohol, but some virgin breakfast "cocktails". My friend and I split the berries and cream, getting the vanilla ice cream on the side to keep the waffle crisp, and a side of eggs and sausage. Everything was delicious. The waffle, despite the look, was not overly sweet, and with the ice cream in the side it was easy to add just a little sweetness. The waffle was so good it did not need syrup. To be quite frank, I'm not sure what's the hype about Waffle and berry. It's located in the same underground food court as maguro bros. Upon entering the cafe, it had a really offputting scent that was kind of repulsive to me, like wet towel. I really wanted açaí bowl so I tried to not let it bug me but I would say I'm quite sensitive to smell. We ordered the açaí and the half size of the Nutella banana waffle. Basic food with expensive price points. I would say California açaí bowls are much better in terms of valuable and options. I liked that they had the granola, honey, chia seeds, chocolate chips, and coconuts at a side table so that you can put as much as you'd like. I will say that there was a funky smell though, so my wife and I ordered for take out and ate at one of the communal tables outside. Acai Bowl - Wow, something so different about the texture of their acai! It was frozen, but soft and creamy at the same time. Not icy like some other places. The bowl comes with standard fruits but you can add granola, honey, chia seeds and coconut flakes at their self-serve counter yourself. Peanut butter banana - I personally thought there was too much peanut butter and not enough banana. The center was all soggy with peanut butter sauce. I was hesitant to try acai bowls again, but after coming here I'm so obsessed now! Their acai bowl + waffle combo was insane, the texture of the acai was so thick and creamy! No ice chunks. This is the best bowl I've ever had, also love the toppings added too! It goes so well with peanut butter. You also get a waffle on the side, our friend was really interested in the fruity pebbles waffle and asked if they could upgrade it. At the first the worker (forgive me if I'm wrong, I believe her name was Kayla!) said they couldn't, but she said you know what...let me see what I could do. We ordered the peanut butter with guava jam waffles and the waffles were super delicious and the perfect texture with crisp around the edges with yummy vanilla ice cream. A little hard to taste the guava flavor but so good regardless. Overall great experience and would definitely come back, maybe even before my current trip is over. I'd just stick to the signature waffles and açaí next time though. Details below. Originally I was just looking for a new açaí spot to try, but saw this place had really great reviews and even made 4th on Yelp's top places to eat in the US, so I got my friends to come try it with me. Line was moderately long and we waited maybe 15 minutes, which was fine with me since it gave my group time to figure out what we wanted. We even managed to snag a table in the front of the restaurant since a family decided to move for more space. I recommend having someone in your party claim one as soon as they can since this place is popular. It was helpful that they had large versions of their menu posted in a couple places. We wanted to try everything so we got an açaí bowl, eggs and sausage, and one of their signature waffles. The star of our meal was definitely the signature waffles. The lady who helped us with our order recommended the chocolate chip banana since it had less overlap with the ingredients of the açaí bowl. The waffle was crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle and had a decent thickness. Bananas looked to be the amount of ripeness I prefer with no dark spots, and the chocolate sauce was served on the side, which helped it not get soggy too fast. I'll admit the ice cream wasn't amazing, but it was the perfect pairing for the chocolate and provided a great backdrop for the warmth of the waffle. I also thought the dollop of whipped cream on top was more than appropriate. Second place would be the açaí bowl. I've had this at a handful of other establishments, with a couple of them being in Hawaii, and what made this stand out to me was the texture. It was really smooth and somewhat dense, and was served at a temp that kept it from melting too fast, which made it easy to share. All the fruit was fresh as well. Third place goes to the eggs and sausage. While the eggs were nicely cooked and the green onions were a nice bright touch, they weren't anything spectacular. The same could be same about the sausage as well. I added these to our meal though so we could have something savory to balance out the sweets. I somewhat expected this too since eggs and sausage aren't found anywhere in the name of the place. What confirmed for me why they were on the top 100 Yelp list though was the service. Remember that family I mentioned that moved? Well one of the staff members came and started dropping off some food on our table, thinking we were that family. Given we had never been there, we thought it was our food too, but we soon realized that it wasn't and let him know. He seemed so genuinely upset at himself even though it wasn't his fault, and the family even noticed and the mom came over immediately to rectify the situation. We let her know we didn't touch the food and she reassured the worker that it was okay and that he can just bring the food over to their new table. Coming from working in restaurants, I know that once food hits a table it's proper to made new food, but I think the family and my group new that would be such an unnecessary waste of food and didn't want the kids to wait even longer for their food, so we made it clear that we were fine if that didn't happen. He apologized profusely, even after we said it was okay, so that to me shows how much the workers here care about getting things right, which I feel should be felt across all customer service establishments. read more

I normally don't care for waffles, but after coming to this place, I left wanting more! I was indecisive with choosing a flavor, so I'm so glad they offered half sizes so we could try multiple flavors - this was the perfect size for my parents and I, and they loved it too! We got their peanut butter banana and berries & cream, both come with a generous scoop of ice cream. Personally I liked the peanut butter banana better because I enjoy that flavor pairing, but you honestly can't go wrong with any of their flavors. Not only is their food delicious, but their service was outstanding (and the main reason why I wanted to write this review). Unfortunately, I forgot to ask for their names, but they were so friendly when helping me pick out a waffle flavor, they made sure my family had extra plates to share and they even had complimentary coffee and water. Let say- you went to New Orleans and at the moment Mardi Gras had already taken place. You were literally at the end of your visit and you went over to your friends's place whose grandma had just cooked a big pot of gumbo now what I need to express here is... this- that feeling of having to had a very well cooked meal done by your friends grandma now we all understand how grandma's cook right? There's no small deal on that. You don't take something like that for granted. We have a lot of foods that are from Hawaii that have that feeling that is your basic Hawaiian dinner and we all know what LauLau taste like. We also know going over to Chinese grandma's house. We all know that if she had made chicken or turkey "Jook"-- that is not a small deal there either because she had hand cut that ginger instead of Using a food processor for that!!--now let's take it back to this Gumbo Monday here at Waffle and Berry- made by owner Cal. He's possibly the closest to what his Grandma is to the making of this Gumbo!!!! I've had gumbo and that gumbo that I've had for the first time in a place called "Orleans restaurant" Denver, Colorado. I don't know if it's still there or not but they had a gumbo and it's nothing like this gumbo. The sauce, which, in my opinion is outstanding, it hints to the right spices for something that would be reminiscent of what Cajun eating would be. I don't suspect that there was anything overly done. I feel it was perfectly done. I feel like I was really given that heartfelt meal that you get from going to grandma's house For that so-called cooked meal. I prefer this gumbo compared to any other gumbo I've had in the past.... The rice is well suited!! and it pairs with the sausage, the chicken and of course the shrimp --that is exactly how I would've liked my shrimp to be in the gumbo I've had in the past--it was not like that in the gumbo ive eaten at the place in Denver. Nothing like it.... The difference is the rice and the way the sauce is done. It is completely different than what I've had in Denver. Just a quick comparison, there is a thicker tomato type of sauce in the gumbo. I've eaten in Denver and it had potatoes, not rice. This gumbo is divine . There's something about the way that saucy soup and the whole shrimp and the whole chicken and whole pieces cut fairly well cut sausage in the bowl. It is a divine dinner. It is what I would call the way- Gumbo should be made. Now that I've had two different styles of gumbo, I am hands-down favorite for CAL's gumbo at Waffle and Berry.... I'm gonna look for gumbo that's done that way. He's done it here. I'm sorry it's just not the same. If it's not done this way it is not gumbo . He's just managed to take me to New Orleans to his grandma's place with one dish. As always with this exquisite meal basing around, I heard $35-$50 is well worth the time that great spice in the sauce and the rice is so much better than potatoes and tomato sauce and chopped shrimp !!! This has whole shrimp and it is just awesome!! Plus, dessert comes with it and of course you know if you've been to waffle and Berry hence the name then the giving is not small be prepared to have your best Cajun styled gumbo at waffle & Berry!! Best açaí bowls on the island! Staff is super friendly and always accommodating of my son's nut allergy. This is his favorite spot for acai so even though it's out of the way in Waikiki, we often drive here just to pick it up. Lots of tourist when we usually go but I'm glad to see this business doing so well. I remember the days back when they were in ohana marketplace in ward and they just had a little stall. Great spot for any time of the day! The owners and staff are friendly, patient to walk you through the menu and quick to get your food out. The place is very spacious with ample seating. It's usually super packed, especially at breakfast. This is one if those places that will help save this Asian food hall as many stalls are slow. The waffles seem simple and basic but it was perfectly executed. The waffles are soft on the inside, perfect crunch on the outside, just the right amount of sweetness and the fruit and cream complement everything so well. At first, I thought $18 was a lot for an acai bowl, but the size fools you! As you keep eating, you find that the portions are actually quite generous and definitely could've been split with another person. The acai is a sorbet, which has the perfect consistency without melting too fast. It comes with bananas, strawberries, and blueberries. Then, you get to add your own toppings. The place was hopping when we arrived around 10:45am but Cal made it a point to take our orders and make us feel like VIP's. We both ordered the Acai bowls hut my niece added a waffle, which we shared. We enjoyed our bowls so much, along with her iced tea and my iced coffee. For anyone who hasn't tried this out of this world eatery, please do so asap! I know their location in the basement level of the Waikiki Shopping Plaza isn't easy if you're driving, there are plenty of parking spots close by. It is worth it, trust me.
