My first visit came via the way of a birthday dinner. We were a large party and ordered our way through the menu to share and taste since a few of us hadn't been. To boot the ambiance is impressively decorated and nicely lit. I even stocked up on selfies for later ;). Overall good lively atmosphere. Service was on point. It was evening and busy to a standing line, but they were still friendly and attentive and kept our glasses full. Part 2: the food I struggled to order away from the ribeye, but once I had a friend put in for one, I decided to make a move. The jalapeno yellowtail sashimi is my go to and is easily my favorite thing on their menu. I've decided near the end of my life, QoL is a bag of bacon in my pocket. I'm halfway, and I think it justifies my choice of ordering a second when we had a couple arrive late. On the table I checked the box with the lemon garlic penne (good if that's your thing), the salmon - nice and flaky with the surface layer pulling tight the skin from whatever mix they brushed over it, but tender and uniform within - so definitely ran through 2 cooking methods ( I think). Sea bass was a winner as well and differed enough from the salmon to not be boring. As to the appetizers - potstickers are a general crowd pleaser and good portion and the twist on the edemame seasoning is also an easy way to get something in while you find you're calling. Last of all...the ribeye. I take it medium rare and although it was ordered medium - it was juicy and done to color. I could only negotiate a couple bites, but it was enough to sell me on it again. So this is my third time going to Kona and the food is always great but our waiter was horrible. He didnt ask is how the food, he didnt have any small talk with us, he took forever to do everything (serve drinks and food), we asked him to serve the kids first and have the sushi out. He couldn't even get that right the sushi end up coming out last. Overall we had to call the manager out. It's a crying shame because I really liked eating here. We had the calamari which was completely dry/ overcooked with little flavor other than the dipping sauce. Las Vegas roll was embarrassing with a huge amount of cream cheese and sad batter. We had a couple of other rolls and an Asian salad. Overall the food quality was mediocre at best. EXTREMELY over-priced. I ordered food for pickup from this establishment, and the receipt was checked off like they were sure that everything that I ordered was present in the bag. I ordered a cheeseburger meal, as well as the mini sliders appetizers. They had delivered on the mini sliders; but the cheeseburger meal was missing from the bag. What really upset me was that someone had checked off all the items as being complete and present in the bag. It was quite a drive to go pick up my order so I was not going to make the trek back to make a complaint. Nevertheless, I will not be ordering from Kona Grille in the future. 5 STARS!!! My very first experience at Kona Grill was beyond expectations for the EP. Coming in blind, I was unsure on what to order so I referred to our waiter, Matthew who excellently recommended me a dish, the fried chicken sandwich. My taste buds loved every second of every bite of my sandwich!! Without Matthew I would have been unsure and lost on what to order, I made sure to leave him a nice tip ;D lol. Only had a few beers and sushi rolls. The service started out slow, but improved. A perfect summer night for drinks and the patio was packed. The interior is upscale and very comfortable. Looking forward to another trip here. Their menu has so many options with a huge open bar. I think I'd return here for dinner and drinks very soon. Come for the food, not the service. Now, they do have some excellent servers, and the wait time for food usually isn't bad. My issue with their service is with the hosts- I don't know if they don't like kids, or if they feel inconvenienced by them- but nothing irks me more than having a hostess roll her eyes at me when I ask for a kids menu (this is my only gripe with this establishment). Everything else about this restaurant is spot on- even if the Sushi offerings suffer from local influence (why the hell does every sushi roll in this town have sour cream in it?). I've had most of the menu at this point, and never once have I been disappointed. The checkerboard roll and chicken satay are absolutely a must try if you haven't had them before. They also make hellaciously good Cuban sandwiches. Edit- recently returned twice and had amazing service at both visits, absolutely request to sit in Kevin's section, he's the most attentive server I've had in recent history and will make sure your visit is nothing less than exceptional! read more

Our server was very slow to get to our table. We ordered an appetizer and it took forever to come out, plus they were cold. We asked for a new plate and what they brought back just tasted like it was microwaved. There was a drunk lady with some friends who wouldn't shut the hell up and made our time there even worse. My team took me to Kona for my birthday dinner. Kona used to be one of my favorite places but this location is lacking greatly. Our waitress could not explain anything about the menu when we asked questions. Elizabeth's only response was oh it's grilled. Then we got our food. My calamari was so freezer burnt then over fried to the point it could have been used for packing peanuts. We had to ask two other servers to even get Elizabeth back our table. She was lackadaisical when it came to checking in on the table. Our drinks sat empty more than full. She seemed to be annoyed by having to do more than getting the food orders. After we got her attention to let her know my food was inedible she didn't offer to let me order anything else. So I ordered a slice of cake for my birthday. She didn't even ask anyone else at the table if they wanted to add dessert. read more

This location has horrible traffic, poor parking, but the garage isn't far, horrible service, horrible hosting staff, and expensive food for what you get. I've been here twice now just because I couldn't accept a restaurant with such good recommendations could fall soooo short! On first visit, I came with the wifey during happy hour and the place was packed, a good sign, but we were told we had to find our own bar table to enjoy the specials. This left my wife wandering around the bar/dinning area trying to find somewhere to sit, all while I went to go park the car in an off area garage area! :-/ The happy hour specials were more like normal pricing everywhere else...meaning this place charges sooo much for food and drinks that their specials are actually no specials what-so-ever. I've had better cocktail mixologist experiences at other locations and had better presented libations better elsewhere as well. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for paying top dollar but ONLY for top dollar service and food/drinks; this spot offers neither. The waitress we had was really slow and disorganized, but I'm not so sure it was her fault or the fact that this place is severely understaffed. Had to remind her about the drink order, then the wifey got her drink order almost at the same time as our food was arriving. The food was ok and nothing to really rave about. We ordered the calamari and some sushi and both were ok but nothing I would be willing to pay more than the "happy hour special" price for. Like I've mentioned, you can get fresh and better sushi at other places. Then our bills got mixed up with another couple and it took us another 10 minutes to get that cleared up. Then just to make sure things were complete for the night, I observed the ladies at the table next to us busing their own table! I joke you not!!! They seriously got tired of having empty plates on their table and literally took the plates off their table and put them near the waitress bar area. Upon arrival, you are given two choices: fend for yourself in the bar area and hope for a table to be open for you to eat or wait two hours for a table in their dining room. There were people waiting to be seated and there was at least 3 empty tables. The staff is not very accommodating, curt and somewhat condescending. But we were told this place was nice to have a good meal and a good time. We ordered chicken satay and spinach artichoke dip to start. The chicken satay had good flavor and the coleslaw complimented well. The dip is really leafy and not your typical cream infested dip. It was tasty; I would order again. Entrées were the avocado chicken club and pad Thai. Pad Thai was too sweet for my liking. The sandwich was much liked by its easter and the taro root chips were crisp and light. I would probably score this food a 3 but the service and the staff do a good job of keeping a low rating for this joint. read more

I've been here several times. This time is a take out. I placed the order via phone and they were really nice. The gal who checked me it made time to go over the order to make sure it was correct. I ordered the tuna, salmon, and yellow tail sashimi as well it's a rainbow roll and also the wave roll and subbed out the soy paper for seaweed. What I like about Kona Grill is that it's always consistent. The sushi rice with a little bit soggy though but everything else made up for it. I will definitely come back again. read more

My wife and I decided to give this place a try and we really loved it. We got lucky and stumbled upon it during their happy hour which was great. They have a specific seating area for happy hour and a happy-hour menu which is pretty well rounded. Not a ton of vegetarian or vegan options, but enough to get by. They have a cute outdoor seating area which we didn't get to enjoy because it was cold the day we went there. We definitely liked it though and will be back! read more

After hearing rumors that this was like a Vegetarian type restaurant, I was skeptical and had no desire to go. When a Yelp event popped up, and this was the location, I decided I would go ahead and give it a shot. Worst case, skip the food and drink more alchohol. After arriving, and getting a feel for the joint, I was a little surprised. Definitely not what I expected, for the better!! The whole restaurant is very swanky and mod. Nice patio, modern design, cool waterfalls, and a perfect atmosphere for a date or a group outings make this place a thriving hot spot. The noise level was quiet enough that I didn't have to holler to make myself heard, but loud enough that if I wanted to focus on a TV I could with no problem. They found the happy medium, which seems to be a lost art nowhadays. The food was a huge bonus for me. I had several sushi rolls, as well as a neat desert. Anazing! Definitely a place I will be taking the wife to soon!! The sushi was prepared excellently, and the taste was spot on. I must say, Kona Grill is now in my top three for favorite sushi places, and that is really saying something! The happy hour prices are incredible. Happy Hour runs 3-7pm and 9-11pm everyday, as well as all day Sunday. They have a complete happy hour food and drink menu, which includes a handful of sushi rolls that are half off their normal price. You definitely have to check it out. Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with this place. Not what I had expected, and was not dissapointed. I'm not going to lie we were hesitant to come here when we decided on The Fountains for dinner, only due to the fact of it only have a 3 1/2 star rating. I'm glad we came in. It surpassed our expectations. The server that sat us was very rude, however she thankfully didn't end up being our server. Lisa did and amazing job with a table of 7 and knew exactly where to place our plates with who ordered what. I definitely recommend this place, especially during the happy hour which is Mon-Sat 2-7 reverse happy hour of 9-11 and Sunday an all day happy hour!! You can't beat that!! read more

I arrived with my husband at about nine pm tonight (July 17) hoping to catch the happy hour and expecting three more guests to join us. Unfortunately the bar and patio, (where happy hour is offered ONLY) was already completely filled and happy hour seating is first come, first serve, seat yourself style. I wanted sushi as an early birthday treat (my birthday is July 18) so we decided to stay and we got a table for us and our three other guests. We were seated immediately. We were seated in a big booth in the corner right against their open kitchen. Everything was going smoothly so far. I ordered the tropical mango punch cocktail (which wasn't really worth the 9$ at regular price). One of our friends ordered a rum and coke (which wasn't worth the price of the well) and everyone else ordered waters. I had eaten at Kona with my husband back in April and we both agreed that the pot stickers this time around were much better tasting than they were in April. My husband this time ordered the spider roll and had it totally deep fried (for ONLY 1$ extra! my husband does NOT like the raw stuff so it was very nice that they offered this accommodation). I ordered the volcano roll and it was delicious. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their food (even though it was definitely over-priced). Up until we started noticing the things happening by the front line in the kitchen which from our table was in perfect view. Two female servers continuously were touching and re-pulling their hair up and out of their face while standing RIGHT next to where the food is coming on the line and being taken out to the dining area. This did NOT settle well with us. One girl in particular, deep brown or maybe even red (with the lighting it was hard to tell) short-ish hair, bangs in her face, was constantly tugging and adjusting her hair not only right next to where food was being put on a line to go out, but also IN THE DINING ROOM, right next to tables where people were eating. Disgusting. Following that we were anticipating a manager to approach the table (table-touching is what we call it in the restaurant hospitality business) which, the manager NEVER came to check to see how everything was, in fact a manager never came to the table AT ALL. What was even more unsettling about this, is that a female (could have been a manager or host) was leaning on the line, spinning the food tickets around "hanging out" and chit-chatting with a taller gentleman in a white button up and black slacks who looked to be playing the roll of "expo", but was dressed as a manager. Seems to us as though he was gossiping with the woman and the cooks behind the line more than paying attention to the server staff or the guests of the restaurant. What started off as a good birthday dinner for my husband and I, and our three friends ended very disappointing. I cannot for the life of me remember our servers name, but he was fairly quick and it was not in anyway his fault that I have given such a low review on Kona. I was looking forward to taking advantage of Kona Grill's happy hour after hearing that sushi was half off. The hostess referred us to the sushi bar, where we waited for service. And waited. I had to ask the sushi chef for a menu. And water. And then if he could take our order. A manager (I assume) came by and apologized, saying the staff had just realized no one was helping us. After that, service was spot on. We got refills promptly and a sushi chef brought us ceviche just because. As for the rest of our food: the tuna wonton crisp appetizer was really good. I liked the wasabi cream sauce and even my 5-year-old daughter with her aversion to spicy food gobbled it up. I ordered a spicy salmon roll and it was tasty. Not too spicy. My daughter liked her tuna nigiri. The presentation on everything was beautiful. To make up for the early lack of service, our waitress informed me that the sushi was on the house. Nice! Sitting around the bar, they have these large ball fixtures that block the NBA playoffs from view... Lose money. On the other hand, Kona Big Wave on tap, my favorite beer, is a huge plus. Kona Grill mixes Asian flavors with a little bit of the southwestern flair. Don't be afraid to come into this decent sized restuarant within the fountains mall. Ambiance: modern and loud this place screams hip and ready to socialize. There are two areas the traditional sit down family area and the seat yourself bar like area. The bar side is where you want to sit. With nice booths and high tables it makes you want to loosen up and have a good time. The music helps too! Service: service was the highlight of the meal. Our server came right away taking our drink order and during the course of the meal she consistently checked up on us to make sure we where taken care of. She even took a picture for us with our instax. And the owner honored the yelp check in for the free sushi roll. Food/drink: so many food options to choose from, but we got the lobster tuna flatbread, avocado egg rolls, 2 sushi rolls, lobster mac and cheese and some Kalua pork sliders. The avocado egg rolls where the bees knees, really creamy, smooth texture with a nice crispy outside. The lobster tuna flatbread had a ceviche like taste to it really fresh and big enough to share with a party of 4. The tuna was served almost sashimi style. The Kalua pork sliders had almost generic BBQ taste but the spicyness from the sauce brought it up a few notches. The 2 slight downfalls where the sushi and the lobster mac. The sushi we got was average. But for almost 10-12 bucks a roll the price didn't match the taste. One roll felt like it was drenched in sweet sauce which took away from the flavor of the fish, as for the other roll it was just a spicy tuna roll but priced much higher. The lobster mac had a good amount of lobster which was great, but it tasted bland with no real depth of flavor just noodles wirh cheese on top. Price: come during happy hour they have great prices. But if you come during regular hours expect slightly higher then regular pricing. Most items are in the 10-16 dollar range Overall: Kona grill is decent. I didn't really see any island flavor favorites like Loco mocos or some poi. Can't forget about those delicious Hawaiin Suns. But where this place shines is the addition of seafood items with familiar items like mac and cheese giving people a different change of pace from the regular. The only cons would be the slight food tweaks. Otherwise Kona grill is an awesome place to go to unwind after a long day at work or lifting all those bags from all the shopping you did at the fountains! Don't forget to check in!!! read more

Great service btw. Menus are in Spanish and english, no traditional Japanese vocabulary for the foods. Sat up at the sushi bar with no waiter, but the guys behind the counter took care of me. Especially Diego the sushi chef. If you're gonna come here sit up at the sushi bar and ask for Diego. He will make you feel right at home and he will serve you as if you were family. The food was fantastic. I got the Picasso roll, Vegas roll, and the sashimi sampler. All made by Diego.
