Kona ice was at my daughters school today and she found a bug in her ice when she walked back to the truck and let the lady know she told her there's nothing she can do there's bugs flying everywhere. instead of apologizing and giving her a new ice. when my daughter explained she threw it away because it was crawling inside of the ice. she disregarded my daughter and told her she's not gonna give her a new one. Even though it was only four dollars it's really sad that my daughter had to miss out on something she was excited to purchase on her own. Got to try Kona for the first time. Reminds me of an actual snow cone growing up. Not your shaved ice Korean style or Taiwanese. This is just plain ice bits & you pour on the delicious syrup flavors. My ultimate favorite was the Tigers Blood. Not only did the name intrigue me but it was so tasty. The combination of tropical flavors like pineapple, mango, coconut & vanilla were so good on the warm day I had it. The wild watermelon was also super yummy. Taste like actual watermelon. I actually go real light on the syrup since I am an avid ice cruncher. I actually like the taste & feel of plain clear ice cubes or chunks or chips. So good! read more

Got Kona Ice at the Irvine Global Festival. This isn't the most authentic shave ice (I've had many in Hawaii) but it wasn't bad. The ice isn't soft and snowy- there's a bit of a crunch left to it (which is a no-no for real shave ice). As the syrup and ice melts, it gets pretty hard at the bottom and the amount of syrup was a little on the light side. I had peach and cherry limeade which are pretty good flavors but the truck also has a long list is of other flavors. I would not go out of my way to get shave ice here but at the same time, it's not a horrible place. The guy is really friendly so he gets props for that. read more

Kona was in ladera today. As I drove by I stopped by as they usually support my kids school. Usually a friendly older gentleman drives the truck and has always been so kind. Today it was a mid 40year old man. He wiped down my kona ice with the same rag that he was wiping his counter down with. He took cash with the same plastic glove he had been using while servicing me. I doubt he changed that glove. At least wipe my ice down with a napkin. The next time I see Kona I will not go if the old man isn't there. read more

The Kona Shaved Ice Truck is great for office events, fund raisers, kids parties, and family gatherings. This year we hired them for our office picnic. They pulled up in their truck playing music which really got everyone excited. They gave me a really good deal since we had over 60 people attending. The team pulled up, opened up their window, and began dishing out shaved ice. Everyone was able to pick there own flavors. At the end they gave out tattoos and wrist bands which the kids loved. The Kona Shaved Ice Truck has some pretty good shaved ice. Almost as good as the stuff over in Hawaii. The problem is that there are only a few flavors and you get to put the flavors onto the ice. I must say I love the flavor choices on the outside of the shave ice mobile , that is cleaver and different then the rest. I have had many different shave ice places on the islands and off of them . Two thumbs up for Kona. I had the idea to host a 31 Flavors themed party for my 31st birthday (I also like shave ice more than ice cream myself). Most my friends have kids, so I got my fill of shave ice and did a picnic at the park show casing Kona as my guests had to come up with their 31 flavor recipes of shave ice treats. With all their flavor options and other ice cream treats, my guests, kids and adults, loved it. I had the party on Jan 6 and it was 50 degrees outside with some light rain. Despite the cold, everyone ate it and some even had seconds. I did my research of similar vendors and Kona was reasonable for everything they offered and was extremely pleased with the service I got. I worked with Dan, and he was friendly and accomodating to my needs. Steven was the Kona rep at the event and he was good with the kids. We contacted Eric from the Kona Ice Truck to see if he could come to our Fun Day at our small grammar school located in San Juan Capistrano. He was quick to respond, sent information about his services, including pictures of his adorable truck. He even came to the school several days before and hung signs announcing the date that the Kona Ice Truck would be coming. On Fun Day, Eric and the Kona Truck arrived on time.
