    Strawberry and Pineapple Bingsoo
    Erlynn T.

Snow Island is a modern Korean bingsoo, mochi donut, and snack shop in an unsuspecting strip mall below Longs Drugs. The design is minimal, clean, and open. When you walk in, you are able to see all of the mochi donuts, kimbap, and snacks that they have available for sale. Service was cheerful and speedy! My partner and I wanted to try the mango bingsoo, but they were out. We opted for the strawberry and pineapple combo. The snow was super fluffy and tasted like it was sweetened with condensed milk. The strawberries and pineapples were fresh and tart. The accompanying strawberry and pineapple syrups were fruity and thick. The sweet whipped cream balanced the tart fruit nicely. Overall, a wonderful refreshing and cold treat for a hot Kona day! Note: The small portion size was enough for my partner and I to share. Perfect if you had a big lunch, but still want a sweet treat after. lol.

I can never have enough Korean shaved ice. It fills like you're eating delicate ice cream. It never gives you that overfilled filling and I was happy to find it with ube in kona. It was not busy when I came by just before closing but I definitely recommend stopping here. I ordered the regular size ube bingsu and it was perfect as is. I did not modifications and I am so happy I did. I was able to take it back to my room and enjoy the rain on the balcony while enjoying it. The ambiance is relaxed and simple. I definitely recommend if you want a not so filling sweet treat.

We tried their kimbap, pon de ring donuts as well as Korean style shave ice Bingsu. Everything was delicious. Bingsu tastes like ice creamy shave ice; light, fluffy and refreshing!

This place is below place from Longs Drug or look for Ups store. Clean space with friendly space. I ordered Matcha ice tea with Croquet and my husband ordered Kona Mud pie. Delicious and they have more food options. Let me tell you, this shave ice was so smooth and tasted like Kona coffee blended favor, oh my, so smooth melted in my mouth...yum. So fine and delicious.

My kids and I have been here three times in our very short stay at the Kailua Kona Bay Resort! It's conveniently located and has plenty of parking. The space itself is warm, inviting and not to mention CLEAN! I love me a clean facility. Nothing but ALOHA vibes from the wonderful staff who take care of us every time. My son wanted shaved ice for his 11th birthday and boy, was he in for a treat! Mahalo from our family to the crew at Snow Island!!! We will be coming back soon... maybe even tomorrow.

Black sesame shave ice w/azuki beans, mochi bites & sliced almonds. It wasn't super sweet and it has a great nutty taste!

Cute little place with indoor & outdoor seating. The crew was very nice. We plan on trying the whole menu. So far our selections were not overly sweet, which is nice because I am diabetic. I also ordered a matcha latte w/ube cream and a pineapple coconut water refresher! Both yummy and not very sweet. The turkey pesto sandwich was delicious and we loved the donuts. The donuts were not greasy and heavy feeling. I would definitely recommend here, especially to people that prefer a place that isn't super sweet.

I really liked their donuts. a little pricy but yummy treat! We tried two different flavors of "snow" mango and strawberry. I liked the mango better than the strawberry. The strawberry was not sweet enough for us.

Large shave ice (Korean-style). Mango topping. It's thick and creamy and substantial, almost like eating ice cream.

Great little dessert place with shave ice and mochi donuts. The mochi donuts were all good--we tried matcha, cookies and cream, milk tea, and original. The matcha is subtle so good for people that like matcha but don't want it too much in your face. The large shave ice was big (good for a family to share). Mango flavor was delicious. Nice vibe. Beautiful interior. Friendly staff. :)

Prosciutto salami panini and matcha latte

Friendly staff and nice new spot in town with nice interior and outside seating . They have a big of selection of mochi donuts and korean shaved ice! The Cubano and Turkey Melt looked and was so delicious too. I forgot to take a picture of it!

Loved the bingsu and ube matcha latte! The mochi donuts were super good too. Service was awesome, and they had a cute outdoor space to chill and enjoy the snacks.

Not the usual shaved ice, it was much better with real fruit and light and fluffy ice. We went back 3 times during our 1 week visit.

We did the 3 meat combo: Garlic Chicken, Short Rib, and Panko Fish w/ adobo fried rice + sesame corn on the side. I typically would order a mac salad and garlic shrimp but wanted to switch it up randomly for this occasion. Also grabbed two of the Hawaiian Sun drinks for $3.50 per drink which was expensive, but convenient, as we were driving out to catch the sunset and star gazing immediately after picking up our food. If I were to reorder, I'd do the same 3 piece combo, highlighting that the panko fish was surprisingly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside so this was a great option. I'd probably go with mac salad and give the kimchi fried rice a try. A friend did let us try the purple sweet potato salad side. This was a nice change of pace similar to the traditional mac salad.

Plus prices are also set at a fair setting. The vibe inside is cozy but definitely on the smaller side with limited seating, so it tends to get pretty crowded, and you might experience a bit of a wait. While the staff was incredibly kind and welcoming, the food itself left a little to be desired. I ordered the Animal Burger expecting something a bit more flavorful, but it ended up tasting pretty ordinary. Some might disagree and absolutely love it, and while it wasn't anything too special for me, it's still a solid, friendly spot. I'd still recommend it if you need a quick, convenient stop for a casual meal!

They have a TV showing historical clips of the Japanese immigrants who moved to Hawaii. We learned so much just dining there! The servers were very nice and friendly. They even offer free, hot green tea. It wasn't crowded when we went there for lunch. The server said we could order from the dinner menu too. The restaurant is decorated with a bunch of old family photos. It's not a fancy food location, but a place that is in the locals' hearts. Also, it's not standard Japanese American food, so don't come in looking for rolls and such! Instead, they serve fresh, perfectly prepared Japanese food with a Hawaiian twist, favorites like saimin and shrimp tempura. The large saimin ($16.17) was delicious and really hit the spot. Toppings were Spam, eggs, and veggies. Simple, but tasty! Shrimp tempura appetizer ($14.85) was a pretty large sized dish. The pieces have a lot of crunchy batter and the kids loved it. It was a bit greasy, but that's to be expected. DH got a Oyako Donburi with sashimi ($21.93). Wow, the sashimi was truly amazing! So tender, it just melts in your mouth. The eggs were cooked with bamboo pieces which kinda threw DH off. I liked them, but DH would've preferred it without. The flavor is sweet/salty and pretty mild. It came with miso soup and some pickles. Parking is right in the front and backs into the main road. It can be spicy getting out if traffic is heavy. They don't have a lot of bathrooms, so there might be a wait. Those are the downsides. Otherwise, a wonderful local place to eat!

The items are made to order so you get a bit more freshness than food sitting under a heat lamp. The rice is well cooked, but the batter is a bit heavy on the items, and one piece of chicken I bit into had a weird funk to it. The mac salad on the platter was good -- not too heavy with mayo and the noodles were cooked well. Similarly, I liked that the rice was not mushy and each grain stood on its own. Would I stop by again for a plate? Most likely not. One last nit-pick with Hawaii BBQ Deli is that the pricing is wildly incorrect. We looked at the menu online before stopping by and were surprised that we were charged a price higher than what was listed on the menu. We didn't question it and just paid the price, but it was a bit annoying that the menu in store on the counter was out-of-date and the price could have been entirely made up on the spot.
