I finally tried Ethiopian food after o my getting samples of it from other Yelp events. I am on a goal to increase my fiber intake daily so I ordered the veggie plate. There's a nice variety to choose from for the veggie plate from cabbage to spinach to lentils. Everything was quite flavorful and the portions are huge. This plate lasted me 3 meals roughly. I would've chosen the rice instead because it's easier on my stomach instead of the bread. But otherwise, it was pretty good. The tater tots were also quite good. I would've liked a little more of the seasoning but it's a pretty good deal and one of the more bang for your buck options at Edgewater. read more

Konjo inside Edgewater Public Market opened a few years ago. They are on the east wall just inside between Lazo Empandas & Dumpling Spot. Edgewater was really buzzing. At least 1/2 the seats were occupied. Konjo has a straightforward menu, a traditional plate with injera or a bowl with turmeric rice. You can make it vegan or add beef, chicken or lamb for proteins. There are 4 veggies to choose. I got the rice bowl with chicken, Misir Wot (simmered red lentils) and Tikel Gomen (curried cabbage with potatoes and carrots). I added a side of Awaze hot sauce. Very fiery. Only soft drinks. I got Pellegrinno Essenza Tangerine water. Edgewater has a beer hall and a full bar nearby. The negatives: while the traditional patterns come with all the vegetables, Konjo only allows you to order one side of vegetables. It isn't the same experience without the variety of vegetables in my opinion. However, if you wanted to order all the vegetables, it would be over $25 for your platter. Oh man, color me jealous of you locals. I am a big fan of Ethiopian food but it feels like it takes forever in Houston and sitting down is a pain. We popped into Edgewater for lunch since it was nearby our morning activity. Figured everyone could pick what they want. Super cute place - good variety. Also didn't feel extorted for the things we collectively ordered. I ordered on screen, but the gentleman there was super nice in our interactions - I really appreciate the kind vibe. Onto the food! I picked Konjo (obv). Chicken tibs bowl with the spinach side and comes with inerja. The chicken is fan-freaking-tastic. Spinach was good, rice is rice. I enjoy inerja in general and ended up going back for an extra side - but that's in part because I'm inclined to eat as intended; without a fork. Mimi is the sweetest lady and exceptionally customer service oriented. I'm a veggie, my service dog is not!! For fast casual Ethiopian, Kongo is pretty good. However, they are not fast. Be prepared to wait a minute or two. I tried the bed ribs plate. You order via a kiosk. Cuts down on time and any misinterpretations. I ordered the beef ribs plate. I really enjoyed the injera and the beef tibs. The tibs had just the right amount of spice and they weren't too greasy. My two sides, the red lentils (miser wat) and the curried cabbage (tikei gomen) were fine. I personally prefer a bit more seasoning in both. The cabbage portion was twice as much as the others. I sort of wish I had also tried the yellow lentils (kik alicha), but it would have been too much food. In fact, I didn't quite finish. So, thumbs up on portion size. Altogether, the plate made for a decent lunch. The Milk Market location is a good choice for picky eaters because there are several dining options all in one space. This was my first time eating at this public market and I quickly knew I wanted to try out Konjo since I've never had Ethiopian food. Everything from options, nutrition, and price point made this an easy choice. You order from a digital screen so you can take your time choosing and reading about all of the options. The combos are very customizable. I ordered the vegetarian combo which came with three choices, plus Injerna or rice. I chose the Miser (red lentils), Kik (yellow split pea), and the Gomen with Dinich (season spinach with potatoes) with the injerna. The red lentils are very spicy for my taste. Looking back I would have tried something else. My absolute favorite was the Kik and it was creamy, smooth, spiced, and very delicious. Probably the most familiar to what I've tried in other curries before. The most surprising was the injerna. Do NOT skip out on it. It's a bit tangy, sour, and a great side for the meal. It's a big meal. I was stuffed by the end instead of paying the same price for a sandwich somewhere else. Highly worth it and my top reccommended place to try out. read more

Konjo never disappoints! Price, value, quality of food and quality of service all checked every time I get food here. Such was the case when I stopped by this late afternoon when I was getting hungry for the evening. I always get the same thing: The Vegan Delight! I know I should be more diverse but as good as this vegan plate gets, I can't help getting me the same thing over and over again. Will I ever get tired of this plate? I don't think I will! I love injera (and it comes with the plate.) But this time, I got me the side rice to go with the whole dish. This ended up being a great idea. The spiciness of the whole plate got somewhat mellowed down by this yellow rice; it truly enhanced the overall taste of it. I strongly recommend this accompaniment. Since this place is in a spacious food hall, it's not so much about being in an environment with an ambiance. But what I suggest is that you can go upstairs to the rooftop to have the food with a drink from the centralized bar as long as the weather permits. read more

Perhaps my expectations were a bit too high, but Konjo was just ok. Granted, the limited menu allows for faster service, but it just didn't have the same authentic Ethiopian flavors that I'm used to. If you're in a hurry and want something different, then by all means, go to Konjo. The food is good. But if you're looking for a more authentic Ethiopian food experience, there are more suitable options in the Metro area, especially on Colfax and in Aurora. Konjo is a Black-owned business whose staff and food have been consistently awesome over the many visits I've made here in the past year or so. I've tried several Ethiopian places in the Denver area at this point, and Konjo is my absolute favorite. I've never been disappointed. Even though you don't even technically need to interact with anybody since you order the food via a machine at the counter (they text you once the food is ready), I've always found the service to be friendly and kind when we do interact. The Gomen (spinach w/potatoes) is the most delicious I've ever had, garlicky and perfectly cooked. I almost always get this, the red lentils, and the cabbage. It's all so flavorful and cooked just right. They have gluten free and non-gf options for injera. The stall is located at Edgewater Public Market, so depending on the time of day and week, it can get crowded even despite the ample seating areas. I recommend getting New Zealand-style ice cream at Happy Cones for dessert afterwards. It's a great way to finish off a wonderful meal from Konjo's. read more

Konjo was my first time trying Ethiopian food and I had a really enjoyable experience. Ordering at the kiosk was quick and easy, and I got a text that my food was ready to pick up maybe 5 mins later if it was even that long. I got the chicken with the red lentils both of which were hot and fresh and had a really pleasant slightly spicy flavor. I didn't dive in fully with using the bread rolls to eat the chicken and lentils as intended, but I did some and it was fun and different. I could easily recommend anybody to visit Konjo, especially if you haven't tried Ethiopian food before. read more

I'm sad to say I did not enjoy my meal from Konjo. I ordered the beef tibs and the two main issues were that the meat was tough and the stew was aggressively salty. I admittedly am no expert in Ethiopian food (I've only tried bites off others' plates in the past) but I suspect that these are execution errors, not inherent traits of this dish. The injera, which had a spongy texture and a fermented taste reminiscent of a very tangy sourdough, brought a bit of balance but it wasn't quite enough to get me through and I left a lot of the tibs uneaten. The bright spot for me was the kik alicha (yellow split peas) which was simple and tasty and provided a much-needed respite for my palette. To add to the "pro" side, I can also say that the food came out very quickly and the portion size was great value for money. The next time I try this dish I'll be interested to see how it compares, but if I'm back at Edgewater Public Market, I'll be choosing a different vendor to dine with. read more

When I first came across Konjo online, I was confused as to the gap in my knowledge of local Ethiopian restaurants (read: I'm a big fan of the cuisine). Then I realized it was a newer place within the Edgewater Public Market, and I both understood my blindspot and was excited to check it out. Since food court style eating is a thing Denver is absolutely obsessed with, I was happy to see something so diverse and delicious making an appearance. I got the 3-item vegetarian platter, and added a 4th side so that I could try all of the vegetarian items. I also added-on a single sambusa. On the whole, all of the items were tasty. The spicing of the various dishes was more pronounced than some Ethiopian I've had (more berbere in the lentils, more turmeric in the peas, ginger in the cabbage, etc.). I liked the added intensity. The whole plate allowed for some share potential, but was otherwise a hearty meal for one. It came with a half roll of injera that was a bit lackluster. The sambusa, which I requested with my order, I did not get originally. I returned for it, and was accommodated (though without a paper receipt it was impossible to show whether I did or didn't pay for it). All in all this meal came to ~$18. I think for those who have frequented more traditional local Ethiopian restaurants, Konjo may not be what you're used to. The vegetarian dishes were a little less stewed, a little more piquant, and the amount of injera and overall bang for the buck were not as economical. That said, I think Konjo is a great addition to the market, and will also open up many new people to the joys of Ethiopian food. I will likely still frequent some of my favorites on Colfax, but I'm glad this place is around, and I can't wait to try their take on an Ethiopian breakfast burrito or some tibs fries. read more

First, the public edge water market? Such a cool spot. Ive never had Ethiopian food so I wasn't sure exactly what I was expecting, but I'm always down to try something new. The vibes in here are immaculate, So much fun, so much culture, and so many happy faces. I got the lamb tips with miser as my vegetable and I was mind blown. The lamb was perfectly cooked and had a little spice to it that I LOVED. I've gone to quite a few Ethiopian restaurants in the past and I love the cuisine. I was happy to finally find this place and try what they had to offer. I ordered beef tibs with tikel Gomen (curry cabbage) which I was excited to taste. It came in a take away box with some plastic cutlery. For a small take away place the food is ok. It didn't quite meet my expectations comparing it to the Ethiopian I've had in the past. The curry cabbage was probably the tastiest part of the dish. A lot of injera (Ethiopian flat bread) is provided which I would normally love if there was more sauce or curry to mix it with. They were the first Ethiopian food truck in Colorado, and first Ethiopian catering company in Colorado. They've been around the block quite a few times and it shows! I hadn't been to the EPM since the pandemic began, which is a bummer because I live pretty close by and would frequent this place often. I was drawn in when I heard Konjo was now offering brunch. Best decision I've made this year! The Brunch Plate looks simple, but don't let it fool you. The flavors are bonkers. You can even sub the meat for a vegetarian alternative. Eggs are cooked with jalapeños, tomatoes, onions and butter. The potatoes are crispy, peppery, and addicting. The beef tibs firfir have that slow cooked rich meaty flavor. A perfect Ethiopian breakfast if you ask me! Their classic plates are delicious, too. All family recipes passed down from generations prior. Ohhhhhhhh me ohhhhhhhhh my...Konjo is so good....happy sigh. After seeing the spread that was posted on Yelp Denver's Instagram, I knew I had to check out Konjo ASAP. I'm so glad we ordered from here. Konjo has amazing service and amazing food. I love restaurants who take extra safety/health measures during this time. It shows they care about their employees, their customers, and their food. Konjo has an easy to order website so that there is contactless payment, and you can just give your name and grab your food. The employees were all wearing masks and had hand sanitizer available for customers. I know these may seem like small things, but I appreciate it during these weird times. The staff were awesome - they thanked us a bunch for ordering, they were so organized, and they were hard at work to get a bunch of orders out. The food....oh the food. We ordered the chicken and beef combo, which includes a decent portion of meat, a side, small salad, and injera. The spices used in each dish were unreal. The perfect amount of heat without being overpowering. The meat was so tender and amazing and paired so well with the kik (yellow split peas simmered in onions and turmeric) and the misir (red lentils simmered in Berbere, onions and garlic). I can't even put into words the happiness I experienced when scooping up the chicken and misir with the injera and shoveling it into my mouth. Yum. I'd also highly recommend adding sambusa to your combo - only $2 with a combo, wow. I wish I could drink the sauce that came with with sambusa too.
