The service is warm and welcoming. The ambiance is open but a little dim in lighting. I think they prefer to have the lighting to be lite low to create a calm environment possibly. It's not a super huge restaurant but it can accommodate a small to mid group. The bonus here is the Nigiri is 50% a selected menu. The plate presentation is great and the selections are portioned fair. Today I took my hubby's food to go. We always tend to buy more than what we can eat at one time but we typically enjoy the rest a few hours later iykyk The only thing that is weird is their hours. They open lunch 11:30 until 2:00 and reopen dinner at 4:00p like hello again :) and close at 8:00p. The price is not crazy high but well worth it! My family of four each had Minso soup (hope I spelled it correctly), Beef and chicken teriyaki bowl. I've been ordering trays from this place for a couple of years and for some reason today on 02/14 I placed an over the phone order and they told me to pick it up with in 20-30 minutes when I arrive the gentleman at the register ask me what would I like to order and I proc to tell him I'm here for pick up . He told me he did not have my order and told me Ive might've called the wrong place and verified the phone number I've called with him and told me it was the correct number but still didn't have my order and that I needed to place the order all over again and wait another 20-30 minutes.the crazy part is it wasn't even that busy for them to not have placed my order . Our neighborhood sushi joint. The servers are attentive and the food is consistent. Yes there are times when the rice is over cooked, but the fish is not disappointed.. If you order to go always ask for your extra sauces as that is limited unless you ask. Plus, you can sit down and eat in their large spacious dining room. They have a variety of different dishes, their sushi was very tasty, the ambience in the restaurant is lovely, and they are close to home which is always a great asset. It is not the kind of restaurant one would venture out to from, say, Del Mar or Ramona, but it is an option for those of us in the La Mesa/ El Cajon area. The square dining room is basically a scattering of a sea of tables, with a bar along one side. When you enter the restaurant, the lady at the door will advise you to pick a table. Thereafter, a waitress will promptly drop off the menu. There is wine available. I like the way the lighting in the dining room is kept reasonably dim. Otherwise, if it were not so, it would be like eating in a charmless schoolroom. There are a number of non-sushi items available on the menu. In particular, I can recommend the pineapple chicken. read more

I should've known this place would not be good when I walked in on a Saturday evening and it was empty. We got the Alaskan roll, crispy beef, orange chicken, chicken lo mein, and an egg drop soup. Total cost was $70 which I find is ridiculous. But I will let that pass because this was our first time coming here. And it is our last. The orange chicken tasted like ketchup chicken. It was a bright red color and tasted nothing of citrus. Literally tasted like a sweet sticky ketchup. But not taste good. I really wish I had photos of the food, but I forgot to take any. There was barely any chicken in the loan main and we found several pieces of bone in the chicken. The Alaskan role was a tempura shrimp fried roll. It was a 15 minute drive home, but by the time we got home, it was completely soggy and was not well put together. The crispy beef was probably the better of the stuff we had but again it tasted soggy and was not very crispy.
