The service is warm and welcoming. The ambiance is open but a little dim in lighting. I think they prefer to have the lighting to be lite low to create a calm environment possibly. It's not a super huge restaurant but it can accommodate a small to mid group. The bonus here is the Nigiri is 50% a selected menu. The plate presentation is great and the selections are portioned fair. Today I took my hubby's food to go. We always tend to buy more than what we can eat at one time but we typically enjoy the rest a few hours later iykyk The only thing that is weird is their hours. They open lunch 11:30 until 2:00 and reopen dinner at 4:00p like hello again :) and close at 8:00p. We have always loved this place, they knew our order preference, drinks, rolls etc. We had a nickname because we always asked for the padres to be on. We really loved this place! Fast forward... New ownership, same-ish menu. Lack of ambience and personality. It is always hot inside, the door is open and never once have we been in when the AC is on. It does influence the experience. The quality of fish still seems good, but there is definitely less on each roll. The napkins are taco shop style, you need about 10 to be effective, the fortune cookies are cheap and questionable at best. The portions are smaller for the same price. They are obviously trying to cut costs, which is a shame and come at the patron experience. The saki and Sapporo still taste good so it is still worth visiting! read more

Have been coming here for probably 15 years. Food is solid, consistent and very reasonable. Service is always excellent. My go-to sushi place, especially at lunch. It is not the kind of restaurant one would venture out to from, say, Del Mar or Ramona, but it is an option for those of us in the La Mesa/ El Cajon area. The square dining room is basically a scattering of a sea of tables, with a bar along one side. When you enter the restaurant, the lady at the door will advise you to pick a table. Thereafter, a waitress will promptly drop off the menu. There is wine available. I like the way the lighting in the dining room is kept reasonably dim. Otherwise, if it were not so, it would be like eating in a charmless schoolroom. There are a number of non-sushi items available on the menu. I should've known this place would not be good when I walked in on a Saturday evening and it was empty. We got the Alaskan roll, crispy beef, orange chicken, chicken lo mein, and an egg drop soup. Total cost was $70 which I find is ridiculous. But I will let that pass because this was our first time coming here. And it is our last. The orange chicken tasted like ketchup chicken. It was a bright red color and tasted nothing of citrus. Literally tasted like a sweet sticky ketchup. But not taste good. I really wish I had photos of the food, but I forgot to take any. There was barely any chicken in the loan main and we found several pieces of bone in the chicken. The Alaskan role was a tempura shrimp fried roll. It was a 15 minute drive home, but by the time we got home, it was completely soggy and was not well put together. The crispy beef was probably the better of the stuff we had but again it tasted soggy and was not very crispy.
