One of the locally sushi joints that I go to from time to time, and it has not disappoint. The place is always busy, but the service has been quick. One of the guys in particular was always welcoming and always checking up on us. Some of the sushi rolls are unique and price is fair. They have other good items on their menu as well.

Excellent service from the staff who are always very friendly. The sushi here is amazing and you can't go wrong with anything on their menu. A few of my favorites are the rich chris roll, Jessica albacore roll, and the grossmont roll.

We didn't want to shop hungry, so stopped by here before grocery shopping next door at Aldi. Surprisingly spacious inside. They have a mix of standard and high top tables. When you come in you, you can sit at any table. They did have some signs that states for "3 or more people" on some of the standard tables. Service was fantastic. Our server was quick to get to our table. And we had a laugh about the name of the sushi. Menu is via QR code and bill payment was through QR code as well. Very convenient. Overall, food was ok. More Americanize. Did not taste authentic. Nothing to write home about but not bad either. For this reason, we will be back and at least give their other options a try. Would like to taste their curry Katsu, noodle and soup options.

Sei Sushi is a solid sushi spot in the San Carlos area. Service is on the slower side so I prefer doing takeout. However, the owners are very hospitable so the dine in experience is always pleasant albeit long. All take out orders should be double checked because my orders always differed slightly despite ordering the same dishes. *Miso Soup: often diluted. Best when dining in but it resembles water with chunks of tofu and seaweed with takeout. *Spicy Garlic Edamame: the best rendition of edamame in SD. The spices and garlic give the beans a Cajun flare. Incredibly savory and lip smack inducing. *Chirashi Bowl: beautifully made every time and often covered in shiso leaves. The sweet shrimp is consistently the best item and the fried shrimp head is a good finisher. The tuna is fatty and not fishy in the slightest. The scallop is sweet and tender. The uni is umami and salty in the best ways. The salmon cut is generous but tends to be on the fishier side. The ikura complements the lemon slices and sushi rice well. The octopus is my least favorite as it's rubbery and overcooked. The fresh wasabi is always a treat when it's in stock. *Rainbow Roll: thoroughly filled with krab and covered in a thick cut of fish. Well executed classic. The rice also retained its integrity despite being stuffed. *Mixed Tempura: love getting their mixed option which includes fried shrimp, carrot, sweet potato, zucchini, and onion. However the fry is inconsistent and the tubers are occasionally underdone. *KBBQ Fries: crispy fries covered in a sweet and smokey sauce. The bulgogi is tender and slightly charred. Really good shareable and starter. Sei Sushi is by far my favorite sushi joint in the area. Dishes aren't always perfect but when they are, they keep us thinking about it for days.

Been here a few times, all their rolls are very good. I got the protein roll and garlic albacore nigiri, the nigiri was super flavorful and the fish basically melted in my mouth. All the fish in the protein roll were really fresh and it paired well with the sesame dressing. It's a small shop with not many options for seating, so it gets busy real quick. We came on a Friday night so it was pretty noisy, but I will definitely be back to try their other rolls, just not on a Friday night.

My cousin took me out to one of his favorite sushi restaurant and ordered everything that was delicious. The seared salmon with truffle oil was amazing. Also the creamy sake sashimi and honey sake sashimi were delicious. We ordered so many rolls that we couldn't finish and bad to take some home. The restaurant is a good size, they can accommodate small and large parties. There's also a sushi bar that diners can watch the chef prepare sushi. Our server was fast and nice, she knew my cousin. Definitely recommend this restaurant if you're in the area.

We went in to have a sit down dinner and the place was full on a Tuesday night. They did have the Padres game on. The real draw continues to be the food and ambience and a delightful server.

The service is absolutely the most welcoming. The prices are so reasonable. The quality of fish is superior to all of San Diego. Every where I go is a disappointment compared to this place. 100% can never praise this place enough.

Found this place driving around like a lost person and saw a sushi sign and headed directly towards it. Many food options in sushi, sushi rolls, noodle dishes, rice bowls and some other variants. Great customer service with a smile, delicious food and we ordered a lot when my little brother and his wife were in town. For sure will go back when in the neighborhood.

I've been to Sei Sushi only once and that was years ago! The look of the restaurant seems to have stayed the same and prices have definitely gone up, however, I think the prices on their rolls and entrees are pretty firm. Most of their rolls are all under $15, which is a pretty good price in my opinion! We got shishito peppers, uni and scallop shooters, and a variety of nigiris. The sauce for the shishito peppers was addicting! I could taste lemon and some ponzu sauce in the uni and scallop shooter. It had some black pepper cracked on top, and it was pretty flavorful! My nigiri favorites were definitely the yellowtail belly, truffle salmon, and uni. Their uni is sweet and creamy! I like that they also have chopped wasabi as I love it more than the regular paste they usually hand out. Service was busy but they work quick for an early weekend dinner. I would say this is the best sushi option for the La Mesa/ Grossmont area overall!

My boyfriend and I have tried this place twice. The first time I honestly couldn't remember how our experience went so we decided to give it another round. We love some good sushi/poke. And there's not that many places for good decently priced sushi. The rolls were nothing special. The nigiri was good. My boyfriend did find a foreign object after he bit into his food. After that he lost his appetite which also reminded me of what had happened at our previous visit. Service was okay, nothing amazing. It was a chill night. They weren't too busy or loud. Lots of parking.

About a year ago, some friends want to try the food out here and I was pleasantly surprised to see how much it had improved! So imagine my surprise where I came in this evening and was completely floored with how abysmal it has somehow become again with only the last few months. The service has been insultingly, rude; we had a talk with our server and even pass along a compliment, it was shocked with how unkindly they responded. Every single item of the menu has been absolutely terrible; the sushi was a quarter of the size it usually is and tastes terrible, the edamame is cold and feels like it was scraped off the floor, and the karaage chicken is now covered in a glaze that is making our stomachs absolutely sick. And the food is even more expensive than it was before! I absolutely do not want to pay for any of this and it makes me sick to my stomach to have wasted our time here this evening.

That said, the waitress we had was very kind and attentive, and the food was decent, so we decided to give the place another try. After a long day at Legoland, we returned around 6pm and I had called ahead to make a reservation for four. The person on the phone took my name and number, so I assumed we were all set. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn't even full, but no one greeted us for several minutes. Eventually, a waiter came over, and when I mentioned our reservation, he seemed confused and said they don't take reservations for parties under six. I tried to explain that someone had taken my information over the phone, but he interrupted me multiple times and didn't let me finish. He then walked over to another group behind us and asked if they were there first, even though we had arrived before them, which was frustrating. We were eventually told there was space available at the bar seating (bar stools) instead of a table. At that point, we were tired and hungry, so we accepted. Unfortunately, the service didn't improve. The waiter seemed rushed and disorganized--he couldn't remember our order and had to ask us which dish belonged to who when the food came out. As for the food, it was okay but not memorable. My ramen was just average--the pork was dry and the egg was overcooked. Overall, the food is decent, but the service really needs improvement. This particular waiter clearly needs more training, or possibly a different role, as the level of service did not meet basic expectations for a restaurant. Our second visit left a bad impression, especially since it was our last night in San Diego. Sadly, we won't be coming back.

When we visited San Diego back in 2016, we ate at Underbelly twice because it was just that good. Returning this trip felt a little like revisiting an old friend. And I'm happy to report... it was every bit as awesome as we remembered! The best part? The staff affectionately called us "O.G.'s" when they heard we had been longtime fans, which immediately made us feel welcome & set the tone for a fun dining experience. We started with the kimchi because some traditions simply should not be broken. Tangy, punchy, spicy & full of flavor, it was the perfect opening act before the ramen arrived. I opted for the Tonkotsu Ramen: rich tonkotsu broth, soft boiled egg & chashu pork. The broth was deeply savory & comforting, the pork tender & flavorful, that perfectly soft egg tied everything together beautifully. It was exactly what ramen dreams are made of. Hubby went with the Underbelly Ramen, extra spicy: tonkotsu broth, soft boiled egg, chashu belly & adobo pulled pork. The extra spice brought serious heat & he was thrilled with every fiery bite! There is something incredibly satisfying about returning to a restaurant years later & finding that the magic is still there. Underbelly delivered the same bold flavors, cozy ramen comfort & cool Little Italy energy that made us fall in love with it the first time around.
