I never thought going to a salon was worth the time and cost until I had my first Kool Cuts by Ms. Brenda. I walked in with ruined bleached hair done by myself a month ago (brassy, damaged hair with patches of uneven colors) and left with a fabulous even-toned, treatment-checked ash brown. Brenda told me that it's often challenging to correct or fix a hair done incorrectly, but based on my experience, I can tell that she has the experience and ability for my problem. The conversation with her was pretty entertaining and inspiring, more like talking to a big sister. She also was very patient with any questions and concerns I had about the hair, and briefly explained what she was going to do before executing. I come in the shop regularly. Brenda has cut my hair many times and been doing my vivid colors for over 6 years. I am practically a walking advertisement for her talent with color. Not a day goes by that someone doesn't compliment my color, cut or both. I am always giving out Brenda's contact information to people that want to use her to get color done. Just yesterday I was asked for her information by a lady who lives more than an hour and half away from Brenda's shop. She felt it would be worth it for Brenda's expertise based on my hair she had been admiring for over a year. Brenda's prices are reasonable and she is very honest. She will always tell you what will work best for you, and make a suggestion to find something that will work to get you as close to what you want if the original desire is not exactly what will work with your hair type/skin color/face shape, or whatever the case might be. I came back for a haircut, color and highlights with Brenda on April 11th and she did an excellent job at helping me get ready for my Hawaii and Las Vegas trips. I was very happy with the final results. She even gave me tips on how to manage the color/highlight after she was done, but I've been flying all over the place that I haven't had the chance to go purchase what she told me to get. I came in not knowing what color I wanted so I just told her I'd leave it in her capable hands...which she proved to be very capable. It wasn't anything dramatic nor overly subtle. Brenda is not only great at what she does, but she is also very attentive to details. If you come in asking her for a dramatic color change that you want, she will give you her honest opinion on whether that color will suit your look, skin color and age. But whether you choose to take her advice or not is totally up to you... She is also very willing to fix anything that you don't like, which I've never had to do as of yet. But it's just nice to know that you have that option--should you ever feel like crying after choosing to go with your own color choice instead of actually listening to Brenda when she tells you that the color won't go with your skin tone. I've heard of a few people who blames the hairstylist/colorist for doing a bad job, when it was totally their own fault for choosing the wrong color that didn't compliment their looks. I have been to this place three times. The first time I got a haircut by Samy for $17. I asked how much for hair dye and she said $35 for dark brown for my length. Next time I went, I got a cut and dye. I paid $60 plus tip. Prices seemed reasonable, so I was impressed. I went again today to touch up my root (about one inch). There were a few things I didn't like. I had a 5 pm appointment. I showed up at 4:40 pm and waited. She was dying someone's hair. Finally she sits me down on the chair at 5:20 pm. I'm already annoyed that I waited 40 minutes despite booking an appointment. Then it turned out that it was a bad idea to book two overlapping clients for a hair dye. She had trouble juggling both of us. Someone else had to help dry my hair because she needed to rinse the other person's hair. I told the person who was going to dry my hair twice that I was hungry and just wanted to go have dinner so don't do anything complicated. She totally disregarded my request and dried and then started straightening my hair. This took at least another 30 to 40 minutes. Finally, at 7:20 pm, a third person charged me $60. I asked "Why am I paying more this time just for a root dye? That's what we charge for a touch up for long hair and style." My hair is not even long it's more like medium length and I didn't ask for a style but I didn't have the energy to argue. I was so ready to leave. She told me last time they undercharged me. I let it go but I won't be going back to this place. They need to improve their customer service and actually listen to what the customer wants. I get that the scheduling problem led to having to pay two people instead of one but that was their bad not mine. read more

Called this place at 9:05am (when they opened at 9am)- wanted to get a price for a kids haircut - & there was NO answer. Waited for a few minutes & called again - still NO answer . After awhile I didn't call back. They can't be busy 10-15 minutes after opening. No answer, no information , lost a customer today. Went to super cuts instead, cheaper haircut (one of the reviews said that a kids haircut was $18!) , super cuts charge $15 , answers the phone, get helped right away. My first visit here turned out to be a horrible experience. Of course going with an intention of getting a good hair trim. But instead it turned out to be more of a downfall, Brenda did my hair. First she downgraded my hair and basically she kept saying I have so much hair as if she was jealous of it. And third she cut it short and somehow it feels thin now. Hey everyone, I want to tell you a story about Kool Cuts and the search for Lily My adult daughter and family had been using Lily from Kool Cuts. I took the exceeding long-haired homeless looking 17-yr old grandson to get a haircut. I was told, by his mother, to only ask for Lily, because Lily is the only person that knows how the grandson likes his hair cut. I was so surprised when I asked for Lily and they told me Lily no longer works there...(they didn't even give me a hint where she went either after I asked). So, I'm stuck with a grandson that seriously needs a haircut - it's late - gotta get it done - and stuck with a person, in which we don't know can provide a good hair cut. . So we chose a lady there (don't know what her name was). Sadly, for $17, my grandson did not get the haircut that his mom felt he needed ... evidently she only gave him a trim. So, now the family is on a trek to find out where Lily Janus went..... Well we did a facebook alert, and through other people who have used Lily, found out that she went to Gils Barber Shop in Pinole, CA on San Pablo Ave. So here it is a day after our first $17 hair cut and we are rushing to Lilly's new abode to get a "real hair cut", Cost us an additional $20, but it was so worth it. This review is for Brenda. I had an appointment at 3:45pm, and yes I realize I canceled and reschedule the time, but I had this appointment set for almost a week. I walked in at 3:40pm and she had a guy in her chair. The receptionist confirmed that I would be next because I had an appointment. Meanwhile, I hear Brenda complain to the receptionist that I've canceled and rescheduled a couple times and she got confused. 30 minutes later, she is done with with the guy, she pulls the receptionist aside and tells her to tell me that she's behind and I'll have to wait longer. So she takes another lady ahead of me. At this point, I've waited for 35 minutes and it's clear I'm going to have to wait another 30 mins. I then told the receptionist to cancel my appointment. This was my first time coming into this salon. I was looking for a new place that can cut my son's hair.. After the reviews I thought I'd give it a try. Long story short.. The Asian lady that worked there cut my son's hair.. I showed her a picture of how I wanted my son's hair.. She immediately got her clipper and just started shaving my son's head..mind you my sons hair was really long.. She cut his hair so short that he almost looked bald! I wanted a slight fade.. She didn't even line him up nicely at all.. He now has no hair line! She couldn't even blend the hair nicely. Luckily this other lady came and took over.. And made it look a little better.
