I brought my 2021 Ford Bronco Sport to Koons Ford Silver Spring for a purge valve issue that had already been identified through a diagnostic at a local garage. When I initially spoke with Koons, I shared the same information and though they would need to perform their own diagnostic to proceed. I understood and scheduled the appointment. After the diagnostic, I was contacted and told the repair was not covered, with a considerable cost. This was frustrating, especially given the prior conversations and expectations. However, after raising my concerns, the Service Manager and team took the time to review the situation with me. We identified that there had been a communication gap on both sides regarding the warranty and diagnostic process. Importantly, they handled the situation fairly, addressed my concerns directly, and did not force the issue in a way that felt unreasonable or dismissive. I appreciate how the team ultimately responded and worked toward a fair outcome. That level of accountability made a difference. I am very disappointed with my experience at this dealership. Two years ago, I brought my vehicle in while it was still under warranty and was charged for repairs that I believed should have been covered. Because of that experience, I left a negative review. Today, I came to the dealership for my scheduled recall service appointment. While I was sitting there waiting, the dealership responded to my review, stating that they had reviewed my complaint and were willing to assist me. However, shortly afterward, the manager called me into his office and told me to leave the dealership. I found this very confusing and unprofessional. The dealership publicly stated that they wanted to help me, but then asked me to leave while I was there for my scheduled recall appointment. Because of this incident, I have filed complaints with Ford Corporate, Koons Corporate, and the Maryland Consumer Protection Division. My first experience here was straightforward and positive. My second was not and really raised some red flags. The first time I came here to test drive a car it was a pre-owned car. I had a very positive experience with salesman Christian. I didn't end up buying the car but I had nothing but positive things to say about the experience. It felt unrushed, all my questions got answered, and I was not pressured. I just decided I didn't like the car enough to buy it. That's obviously not on Koontz or the salesperson. The second time I came in I was looking at a new car and while the test drive was fine, they began to play games as soon as we sat down to talk numbers. The sales manager came over and shows me a price on his screen that was much higher than what was online. The car had been a test drive model and so it showed as discounted online, but in person they showed me the full msrp. I assume their play was to show me that and then eventually be willing to come down to the online price as if that was their absolute best, "I can't believe we're doing this, don't tell anyone" price instead of a starting point. But I don't like games, and I don't like bait and switches, so I thanked them and left. No point negotiating if it's not in good faith. For what it's worth, since I have a Ford, I once called and asked about bringing my car in for service, and was told their first appointment was a month out. Did not exactly inspire confidence that if I bought a car for them and had an issue, that they'd be available to do the repair. But your experience may vary. read more

After calling the service hotline, I was very happy that they could schedule my service with in a few hours of me calling. I thought "Tall Dave" was a wonderful service representative. He provided me with plenty of information regarding my car's services and additional tips for pricing and maintaining the car. He even informed me about the Ford Pass app that would allow me to check the stats of my car and even start it remotely. He definitely seems like that type to go above and beyond (within reason) for a customer. The only (somewhat minor) negative experience: unfortunately, servicing my car took a little longer than what was projected. However, I'm pretty sure this happens anytime a car is serviced because the repair shop ALWAYS finds something else wrong with the car. *It kind of reminds me of going to the dentist.* If you have any plans within 30-45 minutes after your automobile's service, I would recommend that rescheduling either the service or your other plans. In my case, I dropped off my car around 2:30 and was expecting the work to be completed by 4:30 (for a 5 pm engagement). Unfortunately, I did not leave Koons until 5:30-5:45. Although the service took a little longer, Dave did provide plenty of updates so it's not like I was sitting around wondering what was going on. If you have to stick around the shop, the waiting area is pretty nice. It has decent Wifi, comfortable chairs, a workstation, and a nice variety of coffees and teas. Also, if you choose to wait on site for your automobile's servicing, there is a small shopping center that is about a 10-15 minute walk from the garage. This was of great use to me because I got a little hungry while waiting for my car. The shopping center has a few food options that include a McDonald's, Chipotle, American Wings, a Caribbean restaurant, a Subway, and a couple of other food spots. Although I primarily interacted with Tall Dave, I though the staff on a whole was pretty friendly. All in all, I had a pretty decent experience at Koons Food, and I'll definitely will be back....primarily because I will have to replace two tires next month. read more

I hadn't purchased a car 20 years. So I did a lot of research on Carfax and read reviews on this dealership. I felt I was ready to address the issues if they came up. The best part of my experience was dealing with the new car salesman, Mohammed Al Matoq and the sales manager, Tim Morgan at the Koons Ford dealership even though the car was listed online to be at Koons Mazda. Mo and Tim provided me with great customer service. The downside of my experience is the lack of transparency about the car warranty that was not posted on the window sticker that is required by law. The timeline from when I walked into the dealership to driving out with the car was 8 hours. Needless to say, in 2023 that it takes that long to purchase a car is ABSURD. I was already pre-approved from the financing department the day before to avoid this arduous wait time. There was no transparency regarding the condition of the vehicle. It was not until I purchased the car and I took it to my window tinting technician who showed me that the left side of the car had been recently painted: Lower trim was bent, poor paint job on the two left doors which have scratches on the end--I feel it every time I close the doors, the left rear rim had scratches and the touch up rim paint that was applied eventually came off a few weeks later. There is no way that the dealership did not know about it. Now it will cost me $1,000+ to make these repairs. Lastly is the lack of communication is a huge problem. At the outset of the transaction, they quoted me a higher price for the car because of DC's tags, title, and taxes. I called them 35 days to inquire about my new tags and they said they were running behind. I called them 10 days later as we are coming on the holidays. Then a few days before the 60 day temporary tags expiration date, they tell me I need to get a DC vehicle inspection and that I owe them another $735 because Koons accidentally ran the car with Maryland tag fees instead of DC tag fees. Needless to say I was not paying for their mistake. It was resolved and I received my tags before the expiration date. I will NEVER do business with the Koons brand again. BEWARE! Purchased a new 2024 Bronco from this dealership. There were several "extra" charges on my paperwork including "EV Surcharge" for $250. I did not purchase an EV nor did I trade in an EV. When I complained, I was told by the finance manager "Manuel". He told me that this is "common practice" in their dealership to charge this fee. We got the fee reimbursed plus any future interest that we would be paying for it in our loan. It just makes me wonder how many people have not noticed this scam. Purchased a used Mustang (certified) a few months ago. Good: Car came with the wrong tires (305mm versus 315mm) which I called to have corrected. The service manager (Scott) went to bat for me during multiple attempts to get the dealership to correct the issue (the vehicle should have the correct tire size if certified).....After about a week and a potential returning of the vehicle, the dealership replaced the tires. He deserves a medal for not only working with me, but truly working for me with the dealership leadership. Bad: Sales person quoted and even printed out the price of the vehicle. When I return 3 days later to purchase, he handed me another purchase agreement that was almost 5K higher. When I showed them the original form, they reluctantly honored it (but clearly he was trying to scam me). I don't care if this was him or the finance team...that was SHADY. Screwed the temp plate on the car crooked and even drilled holes in the plastic wrong. Forgot to give me my registration. Called upon return to home and it took him almost a week to get it to me. Horrible communication and professionalism. Observed another sales agent start ranting about a customer (who I assume) didn't come in to do a deal? He was literally yelling and stomping around in the front of the dealership while me and my family just sat there and watched. No one at the front table ever attempted to calm him down or apologize for the outburst. I understand the frustration, but again...very unprofessional to not ask your employee to calm down and maybe step outside. I think overall the experience was satisfactory. We recently bought a vehicle at Koons Ford Silver Spring. I would never go back there. The one word that comes to mind is dishonest. The second word is high pressure. The third phrase is deceptive business model. They're crooks. We specifically told them we did not want the $3,000 "rust and dust" package that they pressure you to buy. When we were signing papers and got to the last document, it had been mysteriously added back in. They give you numbers and then pull the sheets away so you can't compare the new numbers with the old. They move numbers around and give mysterious explanations. Then they propose expensive repair packages without telling you the price up front. All of a sudden your proposed payment is doubled. The place smelled like bad breath and man B.O. and wasn't private as we gave our social security numbers out loud. We wanted a specific vehicle that they had in stock so we went thru with the transaction but it was the worst car buying experience we ever had. I hated it. I bought my car here a few months ago. It was a rocky transaction at best. I was hoping to give a better review of the service center; however, that was certainly no the case after my experience today. I made my appointment and showed up on time, they told me to come at 12 to pick up my car. I arrived at 12 and my car was still parked in the same place that I had parked it when I got there. When I came in and said my name, instead of handing me my keys, they started walking over to the service area and then someone ran from the service area and got my car. They sped it into the garage. If I had known that they hadn't done anything I would've taken my keys and left. They came back and said that they would have my car ready in 20 minutes. I have zero trust in this place now. We brought our Ford Fusion in for service. When we picked up the car after the dealership supposedly made repairs, the "check engine" light came on while we were still on Automobile Boulevard. We took the car back and they claimed there were new issues that somehow they had missed the first time. And of course, they charged us to fix these new issues. Buyer beware! I knew buying a used car would have risks and potential problems. The problems, although inconvient, does not compare to the horrible customer service. I bought a used 2017 jeep renegrade on 10/23. I would never reccomend buying a different make from this dealership. I had to bring back the car on 10/30 because when it rained outside somehow water was dripping from the ceiling over top the rearview mirror. Also the sensors for the right turn and brake lights repeatedly kept coming on after I checked them to find the perfectly working. When I brought it in I was told by the service center it wouldn't be seen till the next day. No problem with me. The next day came and I heard nothing by the evening. This was the start of many times I had to call to get any answers or updates on the car. I was told the car had to be taken to a jeep dealership for the problem to be resolved. Thus began a back and forth over when and where the car could be serviced. Originally over a week would be when the car could be seen at a jeep dealership. When I asked for a loaner from the salesman I purchased the car fromgot me a number to contact someone who is in charge of the loaners. I called that number multiple times for 2 days, leaving voicemails, and leaving messages with the secretary without a call back. I did finally got in touch with her just for her to pass me off to another higher up who happened to have left the dealership after I been calling all day. Luckily this person did call me(for the first and only time this company reached out to me) and explained they found a sooner appointment, no loaners would be available for me, and that I needed to pick up my Jeep and when service was done pick it up at the different dealer. Frustratingly I explained how if this was communicated with me even a day ago I could have made plans on my off days of work to pick up the car. Working multiple night shifts at a hospital left me no choice in leaving the car at the dealership until it was fixed. I was reminded that "It is your car. There is no issues driving it." To me there is major issues. Mainly the issue if water leaking somewhere in the car messing with the electronics, the water creating mold in mildew in the fabric, or the fact I will be getting wet while driving in the car. So the car sat at the dealership until it was drove to Ourisman CDJR. I called that dealership the next day to get an update on the car. They told me they already spoke to Koons about the problems. But once again it was radio silence to me from Koons. I had to inform them about the light issues because the stated they only heard about the water leak. This new dealership kept in contact with me over the next 2 weeks about ordering parts and when the car shall be ready for pickup. When they told me the car was finished, I prepared to drive to clarksville to pick it up. I planned to pick up my tags at Koons and make my way to Ourisman. Luckily for me I decided to make Koons my first stop since they stated my car was on the way to their dealership now once I was at the dealership. This was completely different from what Koons and Ourisman had communicated to me over the phone. When I was handed over the car I was told by a manager that "Remember to make sure the roof is all the way locked." As if replacing the water seal of the roof was due to me unlocking and locking the roof. When I brought up the warning lights the manager told me to just go back to Ourisman to handle that issue if the problem persisted. As soon as I started the car I noticed to my disappointment that indeed the parking brake and the right turn signal still remained alarming. Then to top it off my gas tank was left on E with the gas light on. When I left it over 3 weeks ago it had a half tank of gas. But I was glad that I finally had my car back and would hopefully be done dealing with Koons Silver Spring. I had picked the car up Thursday 11/21 and on Sunday 11/24 the car was leaking water even faster now inside. The water was dripping from multiple spots, leaving water marks on the ceiling fabric, and continued for about an 1hr. I immediately called the salesman. Unfortunately I was unable to bring the car back at that moment but stated I could bring in back in the afternoon. I was once again told that later would be find and that I would be called right back. Not to my surprise that once again I was not called back. The next morning I called right when the dealership opened and asked to speak to the manager. The sales manager atleast apologized and stated he would talk to the salesman and call me back. Still no call back. The same issues I brought the car back in are even worse 3 weeks later. At this point the lack of communication, horrible customer service, and unprofessionalism make me wish I had never even did buisness with this company. By now, you should know better than to take your car to any dealer for service. If you had any questions about Koons Ford of Silver Spring, allow me to illuminate why you should go elsewhere. A $2 part. The size of a thimble. This part was all I needed. With the help of YouTube, I could have repaired it myself. However, it's a part with a recall, so it made sense to have the dealer do it for free. Dealer money grab mode activate! I arrived at the dealer, and what do you guess happened? 1. No, your car is not under warranty. 2. You will have to pay a $150 diagnostic fee. Gee, go figure. Total to replace the part? $261 for a $2 part and likely no more than 1 hour of service for even the most incompetent mechanics. And it gets better. I had a light that was out of its socket. Charge for that? $186. It is nearly $200 to remove the over-engineered bumper to get at the bulb, only to plug it back in. So to recap, I paid $447 (this included tax) to have a $2 part installed and a light bulb plugged in. Let that sink in. Please don't use this dealer for service. Or to buy a car for that matter considering this treatment. Until car dealers are held accountable, they will continue to fleece customers unscrupulously. The car buying experience was satisfactory, however the follow up customer has been horrible. When attempting to get vanity plates transferred, the salesman said it wasn't possible on their end. That's not true as we transferred the same plates from the last vehicle. Then phone calls and text messages went unanswered. Got in touch with sales manager and he agreed to facilitate the transfer. Now he's out of the office unexpectedly. We have been completely ghosted now. Even tried calling the general manager to no avail. We don't want to lose the plates and they won't do their job. I am only giving a 1-star because zero is not an option. This company allowed my husband and I to not only test drive a Ford F150 that was not yet inspected but they accepted my check to purchase the vehicle. We had agreed on a price which included everything needed to put the truck on the road. We left the dealership having closed the deal and waited for a phone call to come pick up our truck after it was done with inspection and having the windshield replaced (windshield had a crack in it). We had called the dealership a few days later for an update in which our salesman told us that his manager would be calling us. The manager did call us to inform us that our check was going to be returned to us and that the truck failed inspection and they COULDN'T fix it (we did explain to the manager that our brother in law was an inspector and it's not that they COULDN'T fix it...it was that they WOULDN'T fix it). It was a matter of replacing the windshield, tires, and some minor after-market parts which any reputable service station could actually perform. There is no doubt in our mind that they are going to sell this truck to either an employee who works there or to someone else for a higher price than we did. Paperwork was all signed we were done and ready to go (after spending HOURS in the dealership with 2 kids). He even showed pictures of the keys, as if they were actually there. I drive a company vehicle that is filled with equipment. I stopped by on Tuesday and made an appointment for Friday to drop off the van for service. The van has basically been sitting in the back lot with no movement on Saturday, Monday or today, Tuesday. My company had to get me a rental to pick up. Then had to go to the dealership and transfer as much of my equipment as possible. This has been a HUGE inconvenience. There's no follow up. No sense of Urgency. At the moment I'm waiting for other vehicles. My appt was for Friday. I expected it to be priority. My wife also drives a Ford and takes it here. Neither of us will use this location in the future. The whole purpose of the appt was so I've have my vehicle back sooner rather than later. It will take them a week to complete minor work that only takes a few hours. read more

Shady scammers. I went in for a headlight repair to my 2009 Mazda 5. That first day was a warning I ignored. The person I spoke to at the Mazda service counter, Isaiah, told me I was supposed to be across the lot at the Ford service department. I walked over there and the person assigned told me he doesn't work on Mazdas and sent me back to the Isaiah. They looked at my car and had to order a part. For some reason I was charged for the part/service in advance, but the guy said he'd call when the part came in, no biggie. He said it would only take ten minutes to swap the parts out, so it would be easy to schedule an appointment to come back for that to happen. Nobody ever called me to let me know the part was in or to schedule an appointment. I called them three days after I was told the part would arrive, thinking maybe it was delayed. The phone was answered by a gentleman named Alex, who put me through to the person who originally helped me, Isaiah. I left Isaiah a voicemail explaining that I want to check on the status and need to set up an appointment to have the part installed that I ALREADY PAID FOR. Isaiah didn't call back. Three hours later, I called and asked to speak to a service supervisor. The extremely nice lady I spoke to had trouble finding someone to help me, but finally transferred me to Alex. Alex said my part was there. I asked why I hadn't been informed, and he said it was on Isaiah to call me. He then transferred me to Isaiah's extension to set up an appointment. Isaiah didn't answer. This time I wasn't even given a voicemail option. The phone literally rang for ten minutes without being picked up. Why the hell couldn't someone else set up the appointment? Why does the buck get passed when things are missed? Why is nobody there answering their phones? I honestly would have been FINE with this if someone had just said, "Sorry. We should have called you. Let's set up an appointment now." Apparently, Koons scams customers into paying for parts/service they have no intention of delivering. When I was waiting to drop off my car I saw a very angry customer asking for the manger. I should've taken that as a sign of the poor customer service to come. I recently took my car in for an oil change when the service agent told me that the tech found something wrong with my tires but they could fix it for $500 plus. My car is brand new and I've only have 13000 miles on it. I asked them about a warranty and they stated they didn't see anything for one with my vehicle but that was a lie. After some digging I found out I had an active warranty. They did not offer nor want to call the insurance provider. I had to call and have them on 3 way for the Ford Service agent. They asked me to bring my car back in and then I received a call stating that the issue with my tires isn't covered by my warranty. I then call the tire company who starts a claim with me and asks why the dealership doesn't call them for help. I again have to call on 3 way just to get the dealership to provide some type of help. Their response an hour later after learning that the tire company has filed a claim is that they don't work with the tire company because they "might" not get paid. How would you get paid when you don't communicate with any of the companies involved? I do not recommend going to Koons Ford of Silver Spring to get any work done to your car. I scheduled an appointment to have Koons look at my malfunctioning AC on my day off. They were kind enough to call me the day before to confirm the appointment, but when I actually got there, they informed me they were so busy I'd have to leave my car in their for about 3-5 days before they would even look at it. As it's a half-hour drive to get here and this is my only means of transport, I was given no choice but to cancel. I can get that a service station can be overburdened, but if I have to leave my car there for a week, really I need to know ahead of time - like, say, when they called me to confirm my appointment. Prior to having my safety inspections I had recalls I needed taken care of and they sent a crew to my home to take care of the issues. I can't say enough about how friendly, professional, pleasant, thorough and accommodating Koons staff were in helping me with taking care of the issues that needed done on my vehicle.
