Went with a friend who was looking for a specific washer. I ended up getting keys made because my local hardware store had gone out of business. Clean, organized, friendly place. It's been there for 99 years. And of course, they are being forced out of their lease with a 10% rent increase. Small, family owned businesses like this are what give cities character. It's tucked in the middle of Beverly Hills making it super convenient for all your needs. From making copies of keys to cleaning products to batteries to whatever screw or tool your missing for that project, this store has it. They are located next to a City Parking lot which offers easy free 1 hour parking. You can also almost always find meter parking in front of the store. I have been coming here for the past 10 years and their incredible staff never dissapoints. They are kind, attentive, knowledgable, and always ready to help with a question or show me where a product would be. Always a great experience chatting with the staff. The best customer service in all of BH! Rodeo Drive could never! If you are ever needing something, do yourself a favor and call them. They can help you over the phone and advise you if they have the product or provide you alternatives. They also have a list of handyman should you need service which is so convenient. All in all, this is the type of local shop and staff you want to support!! First off, I am born and raised in BH and have passed by this store a 1000 times. I recently stopped in for the first time, on my way to Whole Foods. I was approached by a very kind professional employee that asked if I needed help and he was unable to assist and referred me to a HORRIBLE condescending very short white man behind the counter. This man gave zero consideration for facts because his opinion, as absolutely wrong as he was, was more important than anything, according to him. GROSS!!! He was of less help that if I just looked for items on my own. He had an opinion that was beyond bonkers and so self righteous and discounting!!! A pure lack of customer service! I love to support small business owners, but this is 100% NOT the place I would ever support or spend money in for anything!!! read more

Very friendly and helpful neighborhood store, they even have a person there to copy your keys , that in itself is rare nowadays. The sis not huge but i have found everything i need every time. The entrance in the parking lot is not grand but you will seek it once you drive into the public parking. I have been coming here for the past 11 years now. They also recommend handyman if you want. This is the nicest hardware store Ive been in. Granted, it's in Beverly Hills so it better be nice. It's kinda the opposite of a Home Depot. It's densely packed with products, the selection per square foot of display space is very high and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Additionally, they are accessible and easy to find in the store. This place reminds me of the way retail stores used to be many decades ago when service was paramount. Prices seem high but I expect they are completely in line with the neighborhood. Parking is abundant in the structure behind and I wasn't charged anything. Lastly, this place has a lot more stuff than you would expect a hardware store to have and seems to be focused on home goods and home repairs more than new construction. Pioneer Hardware is located on North Crescent Drive and Dayton Way. It's a small hardware store that's been here for over 3 decades. First will point out this store is not comparable to the bigger hardware store institutions in terms of products available. For basic items such as light bulbs, key duplicates, household items it's a great store. The customer service from the main guys who have been here over 25 years is commendable. I have purchased portable heaters and replaced knob handles, and the guys have been super professional and helpful. Priced a tad higher than goods from other vendors but service makes up for it. Unfortunately I cannot say the same glowing review for the females in this store, all have been uncordial, unprofessional, negative attitude and unhelpful...would merit a zero star. I like this store, for the useful items and some of the kitschy items they sell always amuses me and the recipient I gift it to. Also, like the free 1 hour parking in the structure behind the store and this location is so convenient for me. Today, I came in search of an air filter/humidifier to help my allergies due to the ongoing fires in the valley. Unfortunately, they have run out. I will have to order it on Amazon and request same day delivery ASAP. Pioneer offers same day delivery as well, and despite them being 2 blocks away from me at the Montage, its a lifesaver and timesaver service that earns my 5 stars. read more

I do love boutique hardware stores where you can buy drill bits, cute garden decor and get keys cut all in the same space. An added plus is knife sharpening in the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month with a quick turnaround time. The service is always great here, everyone is very friendly and really goes out of the way to be helpful. Prices are fair and reasonable and not over the top just because it's Beverly Hills. There's color key selection available for little extra $ . You can watch how the key is copied and formed. Bigger the key, the higher the price for key. This could have been my most epic review. But after a a great deal of reflection I decided not to dwell so much on the negative, only the positive. And besides, I don't want it to take anything away from Ryan and everyone at Pioneer Hardware. But briefly as possibly here is the story. It all began when I needed to have an antique watch wheel cutting machine repaired (t's used as a display where I work). Its wooden base had cracked and since it's so heavy it was in danger of falling over. The company I work for is extremely sensitive about this type of thing so I knew it was going to be a challenge to find just the right person to accomplish the task. Yelp first led me to a business who stated they were a "Professional Conservator with over fifteen years of industry restoration experience". To me, the word or title "Professional" means someone who's in a legitimate business. This was a mistake on my part. So consider yourselves warned that just because a business is listed on yelp it doesn't mean that they have, for instance, a business license. When someone doesn't have a business license that makes me suspicious that they wouldn't necessarily have something like insurance either. Due to a series of fortunate events, at the last minute I realized that they weren't right for this job. I feel like karma was looking out for me. I was truly disappointed that things hadn't worked out. I had gone to a lot of trouble getting corporate to approve the first person to do the work and then paying him $110 cash (no credit cards accepted). Actually it was a little embarrassing. But I knew I had to keep looking to find just the right person. In my next search results I noticed that Pioneer Hardware did minor furniture repairing. I had no idea. We use Pioneer for all of our various hardware needs but I never would have thought about asking them to repair the wooden base. What luck! I took the base over to show Ryan and after discussing it with him for 5 minutes I was sure he would do the perfect job. I left it with him right then and when I picked it up 3 days later I couldn't even see where it had been broken in the first place. Cost: $10. Yes, TEN dollars! I even asked him if he was sure it was enough. Wow! It's not like we're their biggest customer either. Pioneer Hardware serves the Beverly Hills community (and I'm sure way beyond as well) with a type of "old fashioned" customer service that is all too quickly disappearing from today's retail landscape. We are so lucky to have them. They have an incredible stock of regular hardware items as well as things that are more technically oriented which comes in handy in my field. One could say that they are the perfect balance between a traditional and industrial hardware store. Because of this and because they know their products so well they can offer you excellent advice too. Try them out and you'll see. read more

This review is based strictly on their key copying department. I had 3 keys to get copied, when I went back to the office, 2 out of 3 did not work. So I got back in my car and drove back to get it fixed. A different employee did it this time...he confirmed that both keys seems off and tried his best to make me a new copy. Again, both didn't work but I didn't feel like driving back a third time - it's super inconvenient. The only reason why I'm giving this place a 3 star is because it's based on one section of their business, I don't like being too harsh on small businesses and the employees were nice - they just don't know how to make key copies. Please provide some training - I know it's not something that makes the business a lot of money but I don't think it should be too hard to do a decent job. read more

Cute, super quirky "hardware" store in Beverly Hills. I love it because it's so different from the stores surrounding it. The staff is super nice and happy to help. Come here all the time because I work nearby and they have EVERYTHING... all kinds of little odds and ends, from heavy duty tools to AA batteries in bulk. They make copies of keys for like $2. The staff was friendly enough, but they didn't have what I was looking for. Not really a large enough place.

First, I didn't purchase the dimmer. You are charging $49 for a 3 way dimmer that is $17 At Home Depot. I purchase this dimmer on a pretty regular basis and was short one dimmer so I thought I would shop local rather than the box store. Not only was the same item way over retail for Home Depot I went to Anawaly lumber and bought the exact same dimmer for $29, still more than home depot but a far cry from your stores pricing. So your right, I over exaggerated your price being 300%, it was more like 295% higher than Home Depot and still 60% higher than your nearest local competitor. Maybe if you had responded to my request to speak with a manager at the store as quicy as you tried to discredit me this could have been resolved In the store. But he didn't try and resolve the issue, matter a fact they said there was no manager available. I have been an electrician for 25 years and I know what type of dimmers are available and what they should cost. I am done discussing this, I will never visit your store again and I will make sure people I work with do not use your store. There is no advantage to shopping local, limited inventory and regardless of your mark up or claims I know what you charged I know what I paid at another local store and I know what it cost at Home Depot and what I pay on a weekly basis. read more

I am a big fan of the handyman service. I've used it for a variety of situations, such as fixing leaky toilets, changing light fixtures, repairing fence gates, hanging curtain rods on pesky plaster and lathe walls, etc. Basically, it's the perfect solution for anything that's outside of your own comfort level but too small to hire a contractor. I've used several different handymen from Pioneer, and they have all been professional and wonderful. read more

It's your friendly neighborhood hardware store... but smack in the middle of Beverly Hills? You: Come again? Me: That's right. It's a normal hardware store... in Beverly Hills. They're not selling reclaimed mid-century nails for $50 a piece or organic paint for $300 a gallon. It's just a regular, smallish, hardware store a few stores down from Whole Foods. Like other hardware stores (and some pharmacies), they have some kitschy gifts displayed in the windows and near the check out. But they're pretty awesome kitschy gifts/gadgets, like mini light pointers. The price to duplicate keys are the normal going rate and their prices on Ball jars are very, very good. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Love, love, love this place. p.s. Try parking in the one-hour free city lot if you can't find something at a meter. read more

This is the first review I have ever written on Yelp, and it is so well-deserved. I came into Pioneer looking to buy a box to ship something from the post office next door. They didn't have any boxes to sell at the moment, but helped me rifled around through the numerous boxes they had received until we found the perfect size. Then they helped me pack it up and make sure it was good to go. They are so generous with their time, and were all so positive and friendly. Ryan and his team are just awesome.
