The Spicy Vodka Rigatoni was rich and perfectly sauced, the Duck Fried Rice topped with a sunny side up egg was a standout that nobody expected to love as much as they did, and the Vodka Pesto Pizza had a beautifully charred crust with whipped ricotta that kept people reaching across the table. The Chopped Kale salad held its own too, hearty, well dressed, and a nice contrast to all the heavier dishes. The vibe is warm and lively without being too loud, great for a date or a big friend group. Our waiter was genuinely friendly, kept the conversation going, and made the whole experience feel personal rather than transactional. That kind of service goes a long way. A couple of minor things to know going in: parking in the area is a bit of a headache so budget extra time or just Uber. And still water isn't complimentary, which feels a little out of place at this price point. Overall, the food quality, the atmosphere, and the service make Laurel Hardware well worth it. I had been here pre-pandemic and enjoyed the ambiance, so I decided to return with my family while in LA recently. The service was horrible, especially for a slow weeknight when half of the tables on the patio weren't occupied. We waited for 20 minutes after being seated without anyone coming to ask us if we wanted water or drinks. We had to flag someone over to take our order when parties who were seated after ours were seeming to get quick service. Mentioned it to the server, and they didn't care to do anything about it. The drink I ordered was literally so good. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of it, but it had mezcal along with some spice to it and some lemon. Gimme 14 of em. Hamachi crudo and spicy salmon tartare - I would've ordered another round of these if in another world I could never get full. So flavorful and just what I was looking for taste wise. My friend ordered the marinated skirt steak and said it melted in his mouth and the sauce was phenomenal. My other friend ordered the burger and said it was juicy and filling. I can't say enough good things about this place!!! A solid spot for a gno or a date night. Beautiful patio and very romantic ambiance. The front is kinda like a speakeasy but iykyk kinda vibe lol the appetizers were just ok imo. We had chicken wings and tuna tartar on crispy rice. The best appetizer was definitely the pork ribs! I tried multiple dishes at Laurel Hardware, and some of my favorites were the Shrimp Scampi, Duck Fried Rice, Spicy Vodka Rigatoni, and Little Gem Caesar. The quality of the food is amazing, but I just wish the portions were a little larger considering the prices for them. Also, the outdoor seating at night is beautiful. Great lighting and such a nice and cool ambiance. Service was also very good, and the staff was super kind and helpful. Street parking can be difficult, but if you park on Crescent Heights Blvd., there's usually free street parking. read more

I had a great dinner at Laurel Hardware. It's definitely a very young and lively crowd, which you can feel from the moment you enter. And they have a beautiful outdoor patio that is very spacious and well-lit. The whole restaurant is dimly lit which adds a nice flare to the experience. I loved all the food. I think it's best to order tapas style and share with the table. We started with their crispy shrimp which came with shishito peppers and a spicy aioli. Loved how crisp those shrimp were. The chicken wings were surprisingly good, also extra crispy and loaded with Parmesan cheese. The marinated skirt steak with chimichurri sauce was perfectly cooked and juicy throughout. My only feedback was that I wanted more, I could've eaten 2 plates of that steak by myself! The crispy rice salad came with chicken and an Asian-style vinaigrette, it was so refreshing! The mushroom and squash pizzas were both great - crispy, thin crust pizzas with plenty of cheese and fresh toppings. Burger was super juicy and the fries were nice and crisp. Even the chicken shawarma plate was delicious - chicken was super juicy and I really enjoyed their fresh tzatziki sauce. My biggest feedback was the service. It was just so busy that it was hard to grab our waitress and there were a few times we had to remind her about our drinks or flag her down to order more. I know that they were super busy, so I'm sure this has much to do with it. But once we did get our waitresses' attention, she was super helpful and responsive. Second time here & it didn't disappoint. Came for dinner on 4/26 a Sunday evening around 6:30pm. The occasion was for a girlfriend birthday & a group of 7. Everyone loved the space, the drinks, the aesthetic, ESPECIALLY THE FOOD. We ordered a variety of drinks but the espresso martini & the Gangster (with tequila) was top tier. Some food dishes we ordered consisted of the chicken wings 10/10, spicy rigatoni pasta 10000/10 that's my go to. My birthday girl got the butternut squash pasta, skirt steak was delicious, but rather small, comes with no side dish so I recommend get a side lol. The chicken shwarma was also a flavorful dish I didn't get to pick a piece from my friends plate it was devoured already , but the prosciutto pizza!!!! & the margarita pizza were MUST HAVES. Went here for a walk in dinner! They said the patio was fully booked when we came in but there were definitely tables for 2 that were empty the whole 90 minutes we were there. Pizza was delicious, and so were the garlic wings! The Caesar salad was very very bitter so that was a no. Truly a date night fav. Came here for my birthday and did have to wait quite a bit at the bar before they sat us even though we made a reservation (used to it for La honestly). The drinks were flavorful and had you feeling good. Got the lollipop sprouts that packed great flavor and was a personal best. Caesar salad was okay but comes uncut and had a bit too much sauce. Pro tip: save some $$ and go to happy hour at opening everyday 5-6pm! I'm obsessed with this place. My must-haves are the crispy rice salad, skirt steak and mushroom pizza. The ambiance is lovely and it's so fun walking into what looks like a plain hardware store to find the most gorgeous patio setting with trees and lights. This is probably my favorite trendy spot I have been too because of the ambiance and the decent prices! The food was very good, very decent portions, the place is beautiful especially if you sit outside! I am never fond of places that force you into valet and this was not quite that but you almost have to valet because the parking around is either permitted parking or you have to get lucky and find something and walk a bit, but it is what it is. Service was probably the worst part of the experience. Our server didn't come to us until we were seated for 15 minutes and barely checked in on us. Also they really love to rush you out and have a strict 2 hour limit from when you are seated eventhiigh their server doesn't come around to help speed it up I think I'll be back for a special occasion but will manage my expectation with the service. read more

This was a horrible experience from the moment I walked in to the moment I left. This was my first experience at this location and will likely be my last. I felt completely unwelcome, disrespected, and disregarded. I can't definitively say whether race was a factor, but I will say this: if you're Black or a POC, you may want to think twice before dining here. For context, I have 10+ years of service industry experience as a former server, bartender, and manager. I understand sequence of service, restaurant flow, and the standards expected at a reputable establishment. We had a 7:30 PM reservation for two people. My friend arrived at 7:30 and was told they wouldn't seat the table until the entire party arrived. Fine. I arrived at 7:40 PM, but instead of being seated, we were told by an abrasive hostess that we'd need to wait for a table to open up and were directed to the bar. This immediately confused me. Why make a reservation if customers are going to be treated like walk-ins? The hostess' tone and demeanor were cold, dismissive, and unwelcoming from the start. The bar was completely packed, so now we're standing around competing for the bartender's attention just to get drinks while waiting for our reserved table. After waiting about 20 minutes past our reservation time, we checked back with the hostess and were told there were "several people ahead of us" waiting for tables. Again: what is the purpose of reservations if customers are left waiting 30+ minutes anyway? At this point, the energy from staff consistently felt like: "WE DON'T WANT YOUR KIND HERE." My friend and I are Black, and from the first interaction onward, the atmosphere felt noticeably cold and hostile. Eventually, after waiting so long, we got frustrated and left. Halfway down the block we received a notification that our table was finally ready -- 30 minutes after the reservation time. We decided to return since we had already invested so much time. When we came back, another hostess looked me up and down with visible disdain before seating us at a tiny two-top hidden in the very back of the restaurant BEHIND A TREE. As we walked through the restaurant, I also noticed the clientele became noticeably more diverse the farther back we went, which did not leave a great impression. Then after finally being seated, we waited ANOTHER 30 MINUTES before a server even greeted us. No water. No acknowledgment. Nothing. What appeared to be a manager walked throughout the section surveying tables and completely overlooked ours despite us sitting there with an empty table for an extended period of time. A competent manager should notice when guests have not been greeted and step in immediately. She never did that. Once the server finally arrived, we ordered drinks and attempted to salvage the evening. Later, when we only ordered an appetizer because we were primarily there for drinks, we were informed that the patio was "food service only" and that we would need to be closed out because there was a strict 90-minute table limit. That was especially frustrating considering it took the restaurant 30 minutes just to greet us. If you enforce strict table turnover policies, then timely service should be the bare minimum. Guests should not wait half an hour just to be acknowledged. That is not acceptable service by any industry standard. To top it off, the food runner practically slammed our appetizer onto the table and walked away. From beginning to end, this experience felt dismissive, hostile, and deeply uncomfortable. Whether intentional or not, the treatment we received made us feel unwelcome in this establishment, and I will not be returning. read more

My friend has been ranting and raving about grabbing drinks at this spot. We sat in their outside patio. It was decorated with trees and small-bulb lighting. Our server was extremely nice. We asked if we could just order drinks, but she shared their policy about needing to order at least one food item if you choose table seating.
