I have visited Kopper Kitchen plenty of times but never thought to question by bill until today. 5.35+7.75+1.29+1.29+0.75+0.40=$16.83 (period) 7% tax=$1.1781($1.18) (period) $16.83+$1.18=18.01(period) seems simple enough. I politely mentioned to my waitress that I did not understand the total on my tab. ($19.+ which may not SEEM like a big deal until EVERY customer is being ripped off 1 or 2 dollars at a time) The waitress explained her ticket (which was rather sloppy but no big deal) politely but still some random numbers for items not listed didn't make sense to me. In going to pay at the cashier station, I requested politely, that my ticket be reviewed again because there is a calculator at their disposal. The total of my check increased. As I continued to be slightly baffled at the seemingly minor issue the cashier became increasingly agitated that I would repeat to her that my total was incorrect. On my phone calculator I still came to a different total. Pen and paper in hand I still came to a different total. My conclusion is that each customer overcharged just a little every day makes for a big payout. I will never come back due especially to the attitude of the cashier. Kopper Kitchen either needs a new calculator, needs to stop rounding up, or needs to stop stealing from their customers. I will never be back. read more

I've passed by this place for years and never stopped in and I'm glad I did today. The service was excellent, the restaurant was clean and roomy. The food was delicious and came in a timely manner by a courteous waitress with a smile on her face. I was really impressed with the place. The only downfall is they do not take credit cards, and have a 99 surcharge on debit cards, which is not really a huge deal - but you might want to bring in cash if you come. read more

Waited 15 minutes even to be noticed; accosted a passer-by waitress to order. When our food was arrived, only half was there, and what was served was practically cold. Our order was missing condiments (ketchup, syrup for pancakes, biscuits, etc.) waited another 15 minutes for coffee refill. All in all, a classic case of a restaurant relying on its very fatigued reputation. The best characterization I can make is 'not cheap with horrible service'. Did lunch here yesterday after staying away for about two years. The gracious cashier lady tells me, sit anywhere you like, the greeting that always makes me feel welcome. It was after one on a Saturday, so no big lunch rush. Mostly a boomer crowd, my own age. All booths occupied along the wall except the last, so took that. Menus are on your table. A friendly waitress appears quickly, what would you like to drink? Coffee please, which was reloaded four times even as she was busy attending others. Since you can order breakfast anytime, went with a ham omelet plus home fries and rye toast. A few minutes and the folded omelet arrives. They get a medal for service, and waitresses seem to know most customers. A simple menu with not too many choices, a good thing as you can choose quickly. Walls adorned with copper jars plus colorful paintings. Tables and floors constantly being swept and cleaned. Courtyard entrance in the rear filled with plants, unique touch. I've been going here for about ten years now. Its not fancy surroundings, but I'm there to eat the food, not the wallpaper. The same staff has been there for years. They always make you feel welcome, and the parking lot is always full around lunch time. I see a lot of "regulars" and this to me is a sign of quality. I almost always get the small Greek salad, but trust me, it isn't small at all! The bread pudding is a huge enough serving for two people. There has only been one time in the past that I can think of when service was slow, but that was at breakfast time, and every table was filled, so understandably there was a 15-20 minute wait. However, this isn't the norm. I actually went there one time and had somehow forgotten to put my wallet into the handbag I was carrying. Fred told me to just bring the money back another day! They are very nice people, they like to get to know their customers, and I've never gotten a bad meal there. St. Petersburg really needs more quality places like this, kind of like a "mom and pop" diner. I saw the bad review below, and frankly the first thing I thought was that someone was simply writing a bad review out of spite for this place. My husband and I love this place. Egg salad they make fresh by order. Big slabs of moist ham. Sausage patties are not pre-formed - they're sliced from a roll of delicious breakfast sausage then flattened on the grill for cooking. Little cups of preserves and jelly - none of that plasticized jelly here. Patty melts that melt in your mouth. Homemade soups. Fresh salads. The best lemon merinque pie I have ever had is made fresh every Thursday. No chain restaurant offers food this good, and it's served by super-waitresses who've been there forever. Two negatives: so-so coffee and sometimes the pancakes aren't cooked in the middle. That said, we are sad it is closed on Sundays - we'd go every week. read more

Ok... I had to write a review after reading the SLANDER written by CASEY S and his 1 STAR RATING, don't let these LIES deter you from missing out on a great place to sit down and get breakfast/lunch. The Kopper Kitchen has home made food "from scratch" every day. I have been eating there for years and it's a place you can count on to have a great meal. All the staff is welcoming and accommodating to your needs, the menu has something for everybody, and the quality across the menu can't be beaten. Breakfast I love the pancakes with eggs and bacon, can't go wrong. I am more of a lunch customer and for that I go for the club, grilled chicken wrap, and their take on a "Philly" is a must........so are the fries. The salads are overloaded, literally, you have to pour them out on a plate. Desserts are from scratch and are highly recommended....have to try the Banana Cream Pie. All of that being said I've seen the same people in there month after month, year after year, and having that tight-knit relationship between the patrons and the business/staff is what's truly unique about the Kopper Kitchen. read more
