First time visit to Korea House. Located very close to MSU so I figured the menu and atmosphere would be geared toward students. First we sat down and were given 2 menus. One was their regular menu with a variety of different options and the second menu was all sushi and sashimi. There were dozens of rolls and nigiri of all types. Quite an impressive list. I was there for the Korean food so I did not order any sushi. The service was excellent. The few questions we had were answered and the menu layout was explained as it was extensive. There were apps, rice dishes, soups, house specials, BBQ options and hot pot options to name a few. I decided to go with the kim bop app and soondubu chigae main dish. Soondubu chigae is a spicy soup with silken tofu and seafood served piping hot with rice on the side. The meal also included a selection of 4 banchan; potato salad, Kimchee, bean sprouts and fish cake. All of the banchan were delicious. The banchan also comes with unlimited refills. The kim bop was so good. Not sure what all the ingredients were but it was very tasty and well made. The rice was also very good. It was not an afterthought like a lot of Asian restaurants. The rice was cooked properly and of high quality. The soondubu chigae was also very tasty. Not as spicy as I like but had lots of flavor. My one criticism is the lack of seafood. There was some but not really in balance with the amount of silken tofu and egg in the dish. Overall I would recommend Korea House and although I haven't yet tried the BBQ or the hot pot, I sure they would be excellent choices. If you're craving some authentic Korean flavors, give this spot a try. read more

Love this place! I've been coming here for years since before they remodeled x-amount of years ago. The food is always so so good. The service is prompt and the food comes out quickly and hot. I always like to get the bulgogi and kimchi jjigae as my staples but have also tried other dishes that are a hit too. The seafood pancake appetizer is really good. Can't say they are the best Korean restaurant I've been to, but we went here two days in a row, so that's saying a lot. A solid 4 on taste. There was a Korean convention going on at the same time, so this place was popping out the seams at 8pm on a Saturday. There were only 2 servers. So while service was slow and food came out slower, they did what they could and accommodated us very well. Our servers (we had one on Saturday and the other on Sunday) were both nice and quick. The Chinese lady was a little curt at first, but I could see she was just stressed from the unexpected rush of customers. After I thanked her for doing her best, she relaxed and gave me the most beautiful smile. She was very pleasant after that. Chadol-baki, Korean bbq, came precooked (you don't cook on the table) on a hot sizzling dish, pre-seasoned and tasting great. It doesn't come with all the normal Korean bbq fare (lettuce, perilla leaves, garlic, pepper, green onions), but with rice and ssamjang. While the meat was good, I really don't like eating just meat without the veggies, so this one was a disappointment. dolsot bibimbap friend said it was your average bibimbap. You really can't go very wrong with this dish. tangsuyuk They ran out of this dish on Saturday, but we were able to get it on Sunday. It was quite yummy. And even though I didn't ask for the sauce on the side like I usually do, it didn't really get soggy throughout the meal, and stayed good through the last bite. kanpung shrimp They ran out of kanpungki (chicken), so we got shrimp. I actually liked the shrimp better than the chicken. octopus bokkum (little octopus stir fried in hot sauce) This actually tasted quite authentic, despite being on the milder side of the heat spectrum. jjamppong-bap heard from some friends that the rice version is better than the noodle version, so we got the rice. But another friend later told us that the noodles were very good too. So I'm thinking that the noodles got overdone with an influx of customers on Friday, but the kitchen is normally better and fixed it the next day. Either way, the soup was quite good, and generous with ingredients and portion. The consensus is that the jaeyuk-bokkum (pork belly stir fry) is on the sweet side for our Korean tooth, but good for the more American friends. Oh, and the banchan... they were meager portions, especially compared to the generous main dish portions, and no one refilled them unless you asked, and of course, it was difficult to ask when they looked so busy. This is why so many restaurants in Korea make banchan self-service... Overall, a solid Korean restaurant, that won't disappoint. read more

Food wise there were 4 of us. 1) Bulgogi Beef 2) Spicy Pork 3) Kimchi Chigae - type of soup with beef, tofu, vegetables. Etc. 4) Meat Fried Rice - Chicken The Bulgogi Beef was good. Everyone liked it but it was not as flavorful as some of the other restaurants I have been to. Spicy Pork was a hit. It was very good. Kimchi Chigae was good but not we won't order it again. Never went here when I was at MSU but I stop here every time after I golf at Forest Akers for the past 15 years. It's just tradition with my foursome and I. Food is great as always. Consistent and hearty and prices are reasonable. Only thing I would want better is more servers. I know it's hard but you're a busy establishment. You can't lose customers because of that. When you arrive, go around the side of the building where the entrance is located. We parked out front and at first, we couldn't find the door. The large sign on top of the building got us to where we needed to park but it was raining and we could have parked closer to the door if we knew the entrance was around the side. No big deal. It was a minor issue but I thought I'd try to save you some time trying to find the front door. :) We tried this restaurant last weekend and it was really good considering that my absolute favorite is really hard to compare against which is in Novi. The dishes we ordered were Gimbap, LA Kalbie, Ojingo Bokkeum, and Bulgogi. Banchan was plentiful and tasty as well. Everything was fresh. I had covid during the fall of 2021 so my taste buds have been off a bit since I regained some of my sense of smell but I can still tell a difference between dishes served at different restaurants. I'd definitely come back again. The wait staff were efficient and food came out rather quickly considering the restaurant was about 75% filled with dine-in customers. The only minor down-side is ventilation which is pretty common in Korean Restarants. It was a big muggy out because of the rain and the food aroma from the kitchen lingered in the air because of it. When we left, I could still smell the cooking oils on my clothing and in my hair for quite a while. So, if you're sensitive to smells, getting carry-out might be a good option. It would be worth the trip, especially since the alternative in the area did an awful job cooking Ojingo bokkeum as they served it nearly raw so definitely try this place and I think you'll be pleased. Their version of tteokbokki looks quite good here. Someone had a large order and thus would delay our food from being done sooner. Our order would take about 25-30 minutes. The restaurant entrance is actually in the back part of the building. The sign at the corner threw me off. They do not take American Express here at all. Only MasterCard Visa. The tteokbokki is quite spicy, flavorful too, but not that impressive. They gave little containers of kimchi, radish kimchi, fish cake, radish. The fish cake and the radish kimchi were good. The kimchi and the white radish weren't my favorite. Be careful opening all of the side dishes and the tteokbokki too, there was a nice mixture of water or condensation with resources around the edges of the containers when I open them. It splashed everywhere and got anywhere and everywhere. It was a mess. read more

Korea House is a great spot for Korean BBQ (i.e. meat and sides that you grill yourself at your table). We've tried a few options in the East Lansing and this is our favorite; BBQ is the reason we come here, period. Depending on who is working, waitstaff can be standoffish and a bit unfriendly. On the other hand, when he's working, the head chef is over-the-top friendly. He always comes out to chat with us. (Taller guy with gray hair. Very nice person.) Totally hit and miss. read more

Any bad review on here is from people who have very little understanding of Korean culture or cuisine. This place can be a little busy but that's just being near the college like most of the restaurants in the area. Prices are extremely reasonable and I always have a hard time picking a dish because so many are good. Would recommend to anyone looking for Korean. read more

It was different and decent but a tad bland. The rice was sticky and perfect. The chicken itself was very flavorful with some vegetables that were not over cooked. Korea House is a hidden gem. You wouldn't expect this but they serve both sushi and Korean food at an affordable price and generous portion. I really like the hand rolls are here. My favorite hand roll is the spicy tuna. They even have a fried salmon skin option which you don't see often in this area. My favorite stir fry dish is the spicy pork. Before you receive your meal, they give you a complimentary bowl of miso soup. They also give you about 4-5 side dishes. If you want more, they will refill it for free! read more

I came for one purpose.. to have their jaengban jjajang (tray black noodle). I was told it was decent and at $24 and pocket change, it was a good value. First of all, I can eat, but there's no way I would have finished this... so I enlisted my nephew to join, ordered the dish, and we still had leftovers. This should be more for 3+ people. While their jjajang is not the best in Michigan, the taste was decent, far better then most other restaurants that offer jjajang... their jjajang had a hint of spice that hit you and we weren't 100% sure, but we think they add chili powder into the sauce when they made it. This is the only jjajang with seafood, so if you are craving seafood jjajang, grab a buddy and swing by. Their banchans were ok, not the best of quality, but decent. We visited Korea House on a Saturday night and got seated immediately. The place was already fairly busy and got busier as the night went on. Staff was friendly and took our orders immediately. Pretty good selection of Korean food and the price wasn't too bad for typical Korean food in Michigan. Only negative aspect was that we waited about 40-45mins for our food. They apologized and let us know that the kitchen was really behind with orders. Food was very tasty and it was hot and fresh when it arrived. Upon entrance, my friend and I did not receive a welcome. A few employees walked past us and we waited patiently for service. After a minute or two, we were asked how many and escorted to a table. We were sat in a section with 3 other groups who had yet to receive their food. Our waitress informed us it would be 45 minutes from ordering to receive our food and we agreed the time was fine. Our waitress seemed as if she was overworked as she was the only one for a decently busy day. Upon ordering the Budae Jjigae, we were moved to a table that had a built in grill. This table was extremely sticky and seemed to have not been sanitized properly. Our waitress provided us four different banchan (side dishes) for the table and utensils (wooden disposable chopsticks, a metal spoon). After some time, our main dish arrived, the server turned on the grill and proceeded to walk away. We were given no instructions on how to ensure the food was ready, etc. Thankfully this wasn't my first time eating at a resturant like this so I took control of the grill. The waitress never came to check on us. We only seen her when she dropped off the bill. I had to ask for a to go container when she was assisting the family next to us. The flavors of the food were great: a spicy kick from the red pepper, chewy texture of the rice cake and the softened ramen was nice too. I have had better stew at other restaurants but this hit the spot! Overall, the food is good. The service is horrible so don't expect much if you are eating in. read more

For it to be my first time there, the cashier/greeter was not really helpful in recommending things but she was helpful in explaining the menu. I ended up on ordering the shrimp fried rice. Besides the shrimp, the fried rice was good but nothing special. It taste just like any other fried rice though the ingredients (vegetables) did seem fresher. Today, when I arrived, there were people taking their food and also diners sitting at four other tables . I expected the delivery to be slow, but it didn't take as long as I expected. I ordered dumplings, bibimbap and so on, which tasted authentic. The bibimbap was not as delicious as I expected. The rice was cooked in a hot stone pot, and there should be a special aroma of the rice being cooked at high temperature on the contact surface. Jab chae is very good. When you put it in your mouth, you can taste the special aroma of noodles being cooked over an open fire, which is characteristic of a lot of Asian food, when food is stir-fried in a wok over an open fire, it gives you a kind of roasted but not burnt smell Two women in black uniforms and aprons are waitresses, rushing to serve nearly a dozen tables at peak hours. The toilet cleaning should be improved. By the way, the restaurant is hiring. Maybe a new hire will solve the problem of slow service and restroom. read more

And 2 hand sushi rolls. Its was pretty good for a resturant in lansing. The black bean noodles were really filling. Felt like you could eat it for hours and still wont finish it. That makes it sound like it was dirty before but that's not what I mean. The food is still absolutely amazing, just different. I love to come here! Every time, I spend ages staring at the menu, and inevitably I fall back on an old favorite: dolsat bibimbap. The seafood and veggie pancake appetizer is wonderful. I also love the tteokbokki, but my mom thought it was sweeter than she'd prefer. They also have a sushi menu and start the meal with banchan, small sharing plates, like kimchi, bean sprouts, radish, and fish cakes. The sushi rolls are very large and priced low. One roll is a full meal in my opinion, even the simple rolls. While we are still cautious about eating inside restaurants, I feel that Korea House takes extra precautions. read more

This place was a staple for me during my first two years of med school while I was in east lansing. The prices are very affordable and the portions are large! One dish could be two meals for sure, which was nice during the weeks I had a bunch of exams and had no time to cook. My go-tos would be their spicy pork with tofu stir fry and sea food pancake. Their soups are pretty decent too. -1 star because service can sometimes be slow despite it not being super busy. We went as a group of five, and got a table right away on a Saturday night. One of our friends is Korean and helped us choose the dishes to share with each other. The wait staff were patient and helpful, and the food was excellent! We started with the seafood pancake, then had the bulgogi, a beef bibimbop sizzling in a stone bowl and the "army stew" (Budae Chigae) Although the restaurant was busy, our food was served hot and we didn't have to wait too long. The stew was warmed in the cooker built into the table and was a great experience. We ate the other dishes while watching the noodles cook and a slice of cheese on top melt of the stew. This is probably the best Korean restaurant in East Lansing/Okemos are. Have tried others but always return to this place. The food is consistent of good quality and quantity. I vacillate between beef bulgogi and spicy pork. My wife always gets the Bim Bim Bop dol sot (in stone bowl). She doesn't do beef but gets tofu substituted for the beef. Great side dishes. Very clean restaurant. Was disappointed when COVID was here since they didn't have the dol sot. We eat here frequently. read more

For those looking for good food, good service and attention to detail then it is best to avoid this place. While this establishment used to be one of the few locations in the Greater Lansing/East Lansing area where you could sample tastes from different cultures, over the past years the quality of food and service has significantly decreased to the point that you are better off going next door to grab a Wendy's dollar burger. Prior to this recent visit, we visited this establishment 2 months ago and suffered from food poisoning much so that several in our company reported to seek medical evaluation. We returned to offer this location another chance because everyone deserves a second chance.... at least we thought so. On arrival, we noticed the tables have been shrunk and crammed together in order to squeeze many occupants. This removes the intimacy of dinner party because you no longer have privacy of hearing your own conversations. The place is mostly filled with MSU international students and some do not understand the need to give privacy, so don't be surprised if someone is sitting within an arm's reach bleaching in your direction. We ordered several dishes ranging from their sushi, rice and noodle selection. We also requested beef to be substituted for pork and were informed that would be done. Our orders were quickly taken with one of the senior managers who thought it was appropriate to drop our side dishes onto the table. When the rice was brought out, the same individual had her thumb inside the rice bowl.... safety and hygiene issue. When the remainder of the food arrived one dish (tempura sushi) was greasy, doughy and loosely put together. The dish we requested to have beef in had 1 small strip of shredded beef (less than 3 inches). We asked one of the servers, who happened to be a male Korean student if this was appropriate serving for the meat because we have the ate same dish at other several Korean institutions and the portions were reflective of the dish. This server said he would talk to the managers s as we observed this interaction, the manager/owner just shock her head and the dismissed the issue. The male server returned and said that's how we make it to which we replied "No, we have seen how it is mean't to be based on previous visit to other Korean establishment", the male server them said " I'm Korean and I know how it's supposed to be made, sorry there is nothing we can do." He then just dropped the meal tab and left.Mind you this male server appeared no older than 22 years old and dressed like a college student. The manager never came to our table to resolve the issue. Our server (the one who stuck her fingers in our food) never checked on how our food was. Nobody came to see if our meals were the correct order. Nobody. We were left to eat food that lacked flavor, missed orders, removed food that had been exposed to fingers stuck in it and the dining experience was horrible because of the crammed space and loud students. We paid for our meal and the staff seemed annoyed by our presence because we were not Korean but rather a diverse non-Asian group. That being said, if you not Asian, want contaminated food, poor tasting food, missing meal components, love sitting in a crammed corner on a narrow table with rude students yelling and not caring about customary dining courtesy, food that tastes no better than a dollar Wendy's burger right next door, poor service and management that only wants your money but not care about your experience at this restaurant then this is the right place do you.
